• SQL Server Query Editors - any that warn of number of rows to be changed?

  We're using SQL Server 2000 Query Analyser, and one issue we have is that very occasionally, when a user is updating our live database, they insert the incorrect/no(!) where clause. I know, not good, but it happens. Are there any editors that will warn of the number of rows that might be changed (if that is even possible) or even a way to configure an editor, if it is connected to a certain database, to prompt for confirmation before the query is run? We have a way to recover our data in the cases where we run an incorrect query, but it takes time, and I'm just seeing if there are any ways to catch the error, or at least give the user a second chance. • Why doesn't Request.IsAjaxRequest() work in ASP.NET MVC 3?

  I'm creating a new project, asp.net mvc3 with Razor, and wanting to turn the LogOn into an ajax request. First, looking at the the http response with Fiddler, I notice there is no x-requested-with header. So I add <input type="hidden" name="X-Requested-With" value="XMLHttpRequest" /> That seems to work, but now what I receive back is a Json object, which isn't being parsed and instead Google Chrome is just rendering the Json to screen. Whats happening?

• Trying to connect internally to Oracle, getting an idle instance?

  So I have an Oracle instance, and I know it's running on this system, I've su'd to the oracle user, and I'm trying to connect using "/ as sysdba". However, when I do connect, it says the instance is idle. I know the database is up and opened, because my application's talking to it. • pyramid view redirection

  This question title may be slightly incorrect but I could not find a better one (yet). I'm trying to integrate Mozilla Persona (browserid) into a Pyramid application. The login process is: user can login on any page by clicking on the login button a popup then shows a login form when the users enters correct login/password, an ajax call is made by the popup to a pyramid view that checks users credentials, and calls pyramid remember function if the check succeeded the browserid javascript code then reloads the current page Now I want to handle the case of a new user subscribing to the web app and present a new view asking for a few more details (desired username, etc) Since the "remember" function is called by an ajax call from the popup, I cannot redirect the user the the "/newuser" page. So every view needs to redirect new users to the "/newuser" url whenever the remembered browserid has no corresponding user in the database. Is there a way to intercept user requests before calling a view to call the "new_user" view instead ? Or maybe my authentication approach is fundamentally incorrect and I should rely on another approach ?

• MD5 hash validation failing for unknown reason in PHP

  I'm writing a login form, and it converts the given password to an MD5 hash with md5($password), then matches it to an already-hashed record in my database. I know for sure that the database record is correct in this case. However, it doesn't log me in and claims the password is incorrect. Here's my code: $password = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST["password"]); ...more code... $passwordQuery = mysql_fetch_row(mysql_query(("SELECT password FROM users WHERE email = '$userEmail'"))); ...some code... elseif(md5($password) != $passwordQuery) { $_SESSION["noPass"] = "That password is incorrect."; } ...more code after... I tried pulling just the value of md5($password) and that matched up when I visually compared it. However, I can't get the comparison to work in PHP. Perhaps it is because the MySQL record is stored as text, and the MD5 is something else?

  Can semantic errors be detected by the compiler or not? If not when do the errors get detected? As far as I know semantic errors are those errors which result from the expressions involving operators with incorrect number/type of operands. For example: n3=n1*n2;//n1 is integer, n2 is a string, n3 is an integer The above statement is semantically incorrect. But while reading C Primer Plus by Stephen Prata I found the following statement The compiler does not detect semantic errors, because they don't violate C rules. The compiler has no way of divining your true intentions. That leaves it to you to find these kinds of errors. One way is to compare what a program does to what you expected it to do. If not the compiler, who detects those errors? Am I missing something?

• Reading in a file - Warning Message in R

  I have a file that has 22268 rows BY 2521 columns. When I try to read in the file using this line of code: file <- read.table(textfile, skip=2, header=TRUE, sep="\t", fill=TRUE, blank.lines.skip=FALSE) I get the following error: Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : number of items read is not a multiple of the number of columns I also used this command to see what rows had an incorrect number of columns: x <-count.fields("train.gct", sep="\t", skip=2) which(x != 2521) and got back a list of about 20 rows that were incorrect. Is there a way to fill these rows with NA values? I thought that is what the "fill" parameter does in the read.table function, but it doesn't appear so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • SQL SERVER – Fix : Error 3623 – An invalid floating point operation occurred

  Going back in time, I always had a problem with mathematics. It was a great subject and I loved it a lot but I only mastered it after practices a lot. I learned that mathematics problems should be addressed systematically and being verbose is not a trick, I learned to solve any problem. Recently one of reader sent me an email with the title “Mathematics problem – please help!” and I was a bit scared. I was good at mathematics but not the best. When I opened the email I was relieved as it was Mathematics problem with SQL Server. My friend received following error while working with SQL Server. Msg 3623, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 An invalid floating point operation occurred. The reasons for the error is simply that invalid usage of the mathematical function is attempted. Let me give you a few examples of the same. SELECT SQRT(-5); SELECT ACOS(-3); SELECT LOG(-9); If you run any of the above functions they will give you an error related to invalid floating point. Honestly there is no workaround except passing the function appropriate values. SQRT of a negative number will give you result in real numbers which is not supported at this point of time as well LOG of a negative number is not possible (because logarithm is the inverse function of an exponential function and the exponential function is NEVER negative). When I send above reply to my friend he did understand that he was passing incorrect value to the function. As mentioned earlier the only way to fix this issue is finding incorrect value and avoid passing it to the function. Every mathematics function is different and there is not a single solution to identify erroneous value passed. If you are facing this error and not able to figure out the solution.   Just for testing purposes, I went a head and enabled the root account, by using the commands below: sudo passwd root [sudo] password for abed: Enter new UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: passwd: password updated successfully Once that happened, I went ahead and did Ctrl+Alt+F1, to get to the first virtual console, and at the login prompt I try logging in as abed, su, root, all comeback with login incorrect. Why is that happening, and how can I fix it.
