  Just very recently I encountered an issue in deploying a custom SSIS component assembly which turns out to be a relative "no-brainer" error if only the clues were more straightforward.   I have a Windows 8 Ultrabook. I downloaded Ubuntu (release 12.04) and installed using the Windows installer (Wubi). On rebooting at the end of the installation, I get the Windows boot screen asking if I want to boot into Windows 8 or Ubuntu. I select Ubuntu, and I get an error message that says Ubuntu is missing a boot file or has errors. Please let me know how to fix, or if my procedure is incorrect.

  I'm using VS2010 with XNA 4.0 and I'm trying to load an FBX model with texture on the screen. The problem I'm having is this error: Missing Asset: C:\Users\ChocoMan\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\XNAGame\Documents\Visual Studio\Projects\XNAGame\XNAGameContent\Textures\texture.bmp but the actual path to the texture is C:\Users\ChocoMan\Documents\Visual Studio\Projects\XNAGame\XNAGameContent\Textures\texture.bmp Also, when I linked the texture in Maya, I used the above address. Does anyone know why VS is looking for an incorrect address that doesnt exist?

This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable.   I am attempting to create a GLSL shader for simple, per-fragment directional light. So far, after following many tutorials, I have continually ran into the issue: my light is specified in world coordinates, however, the shader treats the light's position as being in eye space, thus, the light direction changes when I move the camera. My question is, how to I transform a directional light position such as (50, 50, 50, 0) into eye space, or, would doing things this way be the incorrect approach to the problem?

• Why are textures always square powers of two? What if they aren't?

  Why are the resolution of textures in games always a power of two (128x128, 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, etc.)? Wouldn't it be smart to save on the game's file size and make the texture exactly fit the UV unwrapped model? What would happen if there was a texture that was not a power of two? Would it be incorrect to have a texture be something like 256x512, or 512x1024? Or would this cause the problems that non-power-of-two textures may cause?

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 fully updated on my laptop. Since the last update every time I lock the screen (when leaving my room for example) - when I get back and input my password, it is not accepted even though it's the correct password, the error I get is: Password incorrect, please try again I found that clicking the "Switch Account" fixes the issue but it is very annoying, if you know any way to fix it, it would be nice. • why does ubuntu 12.04 remove gparted during the installation?

  04, and I expanded the progress bar when it was about 3/4 done - it was at the 'remove unnecessary parts from installation' stage. I was thinking that removing gparted was not a good idea, as it is useful for partitioning USB devices - not just the internal hds. Does anyone else think that Ubuntu shouldn't remove gparted?   I have no problem downloading WUBI either using Firefox or IE. Either way, however, when I try to run or open it, I get a message to the effect that the file cannot run because the configuration is incorrect and "re-installing the file may help" (which it doesn't - I've tried several times). What am doing wrong ? I am running XP Pro. (Note: my Ubuntu CD works just fine but I want to install Ubuntu inside Windows).

  While writing some predicates for collection filtering I have stumbled over the choice of the right words for the relation of the subject and the predicate (English is a foreign language for me). What I ended up writing was "Subjects matching this predicate..." This seems to be incorrect, since predicates are functions and not regular expressions. But saying "Subjects for which this predicate returns true..." sounds awkward to me as well.. So what would be the correct term?

  I'm trying to set a Domain User account as ApplicationPool Identity in IIS 8 (Windows 2012). When trying this using the IIS Management Console I always get an error: Value does not fall within the expected range. When trying to set the identity using appcmd.exe it fails on both the command setting the username and password or the command only setting the password. Setting the username is no problem. Trying to set both the username and password [FAIL]: >appcmd set config /section:applicationPools /[name='AppPoolName'].processModel.identityType:SpecificUser /[name='AppPoolName'].processModel.userName:DOMAIN\Username /[name='AppPoolName'].processModel.password:P4ssW0rd Applied configuration changes to section "system.applicationHost/applicationPools" for "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" at configuration commit path "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" ERROR ( hresult:80070057, message:Failed to commit configuration changes. • Can't Access TFS 2010 Beta 2 from Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 when domain joined

  I'm experimenting with an installation of TFS 2010 Beta 2 on a virtual machine under VirtualBox running Windows Server 2008. When I've got the server in a workgroup, I can connect to it from Visual Studio just fine, as long as I provide credentials for a local user on the server machine when prompted by the "Connect to Team Foundation Server" dialog. The desktop I'm running Visual Studio on is joined to a domain. However, when I join the server to the domain, I can no longer connect to it from Visual Studio. I get a pretty generic error message: "TF31002 - Unable to connect to team foundation server". It gives me several different possible problems, including an incorrect address or an incorrect username and password. I've already added the domain Windows identity with which I'm logged on the the desktop to the TFS Admins group on the server, so I don't think it's a username/password problem. I've also tried putting the literal IP address of the server in the dialog address box instead of the machine name, but still no dice. I made sure that network discovery was enabled on the server, too, and can navigate to "\\webserver2008" in Windows Explorer without any problems. Shouldn't be a firewall problem, since the TFS install creates the appropriate exceptions in Windows Firewall. It's all a bit confusing, since it seems to work when the server is in a workgroup. Note: I'm a dev, not an admin, so there are many subtleties of server administration with which I'm not familiar. Please make no assumptions about what I may or may not have tried; what may be obvious to you may have never occurred to me. Thanks in advance!
