• Is it possible to set up rule in Outlook 2010 based on message class?

  I recieve all the undeliverable reports for mailings sent from my company. Moving and cataloguing them can take a while, and it would be handy if I could create a rule that did that for me. The most robust way of doing this would seem to be to run a rule based on the Undeliverable message class. However, I can't see message class as an option anywhere in the advanced rules wizard, and Googling it is no help. EDIT: I already have a rule that searches for "Undeliverable" in the subject header of emails received and moves them, but this only affects traditional emails (i.e. those with a message class of "Message") and ignores actual undeliverable reports. Am I missing something obvious, or can this not be done?

• Outlook or OWA: How can I convert an e-mail message to a draft?

  There's an option in Thunderbird called Edit as new... which converts a message to a draft. I am looking for something similar in Exchange. Reasoning: We migrated old e-mail of a user from an IMAP server to Exchange. The user had many drafts saved. According to exchange though, the messages are not drafts anymore. My hunch is that, if we find a similar procedure as Thunderbird's Edit as new..., that should do the trick.

• Get the folder where the last mailitem was moved in Outlook?

  I have a vbscript macro that I'm using in Outlook. It moves a mailitem to some folder, say X. After I run the macro and I try to manually move a mailitem from Outlook with Control-v, it defaults to folder X. I would like Control-v to default to the folder that it would have used before I ran the macro. Is there some way in VBScript to find out what folder the last mailitem was move to, and to return that to be the default folder after I run my script? Or is there a way to move a mailitem in my script without the destination folder being remembered by Outlook Control-v after I run the script? Thanks for any hints.

• How to Export a Contact to and Import a Contact from a vCard (.vcf) File in Outlook 2013

  vCard is the abbreviation for Virtual Business Card and is the standard format (.vcf files) for electronic business cards. vCards allow you to create and share contact information over the internet, such as in email messages and instant messaging. You can also use vCards to move contact information from one email or personal information management program to another, as long as both programs support the .vcf file format. vCards can contain name and address information, as well as phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, images, and audio clips. We will show you how to export a contact to and import a contact from a vCard, or .vcf file, in Outlook. First access the People section by clicking People at the bottom of the Outlook window. To view your contact in business card format, click Business Card in the Current View section of the Home tab. Select a contact by clicking on the name bar at the top of the business card. To export the selected contact as a vCard, click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Save As in the list of options on the left. The Save As dialog box displays. By default, the name of the contact is used to name the .vcf file in the File name edit box. Change the name, if desired, select a location for the file, and click Save. The contact is saved as a .vcf file. To import a vCard, or .vcf file, into Outlook, simply double-click on the .vcf file. By default, .vcf files are automatically associated with Outlook, so the file is opened in Outlook as a Contact. Make any changes or additions to the contact in the contact editing window. To save the contact, click Save & Close in the Actions section of the Contact tab. NOTE: Notice that because this contact is new, the full contact editing window displays rather than the Contact Card that displays when double-clicking on a contact. You can open the full contact editing window instead of the Contact Card when editing a contact or searching for a contact. The contact is added to the Contacts folder. You can add your contact information to a signature in business card format, and it will display as shown above in emails.   Hi, I work for a company that develops a CRM tool and offers integration with MS Office(2003 & 2007) from windows XP to 7. (I'm working using Win7) My task is to call an Outlook instance (using C#) from this CRM tool when the user wants to send an email and prepopulate with data of the CRM tool (email, recipient, etc..) All of this already works just fine. The problem I'm having is that Outlook's "object model guard" is throwing com Exception (Operation aborted (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004004 (E_ABORT))) the moment I try to read a protected value from the mailItem (such as mail.bodyHTML). Example Snippet: using MSOutlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook; //untrusted Instance _outlook = new MSOutlook.Application(); MSOutlook.MailItem mail = (MSOutlook.MailItem)_outlook.CreateItem(MSOutlook.OlItemType.olMailItem); //this where the Exception occurs string outlookStdHTMLBody = mail.HTMLBody; I've done quite a bit of reading and know that my Outlook Instance (derived by using new Application) is considered untrusted and therefore the "omg" kicks in. I do have a workaround for development: I'm running VS2010 as Administrator and if I run Outlook as Administrator as well - all is good. I suppose this is due to them having the same integrity levels(high) and the UAC(?) is not complaining. But that just ain't the way to go for deployment. Now the question is: Is there a way to obtain a trusted instance of Outlook so that I can avoid this exception? I've already read that when developing an Office Add-In using VSTO one can obtain a trusted Instance from the OnComplete event and/or using "ThisAddin" But I "merely" want to start an outlook instance and preopulate it, and do not want to develop an Add-In since this is not the requirement. And to make it clear - I have no problem with pop ups informing the user that outlook is being accessed - I just want to get rid of the exception! So how can I get around this problem using code? We currently are using Wix for our installers as they play nice with MSBuild and I need to use it to create the installer for the outlook add-in. I have no experience with outlook add-ins and am unsure exactly what is involved and how to go about creating the installer. Can anyone share any experience/tips/examples that would help me please? • One user sometimes gets an unknown certificate error opening Outlook

  Let me clarify a little. This isn't an unknown certificate error it's an unknown certificate error in so much as I can't figure out where the certificate comes from. This happens on a Win 7 Enterprise machine connecting to Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010. The error he gets is that the root is not trusted because it's a self-signed cert. Take a look at this screenshot because even if I had generated this myself I wouldn't have put "SomeOrganizationalUnit" or "SomeCity" or "SomeState", etc. (Red block covers our domain name.) I'm a little concerned this is a symptom of a security breach. Exchange 2010 has three certificates installed but none of them are this certificate. They all have different expiration dates (one is expired) and different meta-data. edit: There are two scenarios that I see the certificate warning and one of them I can reliably repeat. When the user leaves his computer on over night Outlook pops the Security Warning window. I don't know what time this happens. Using Outlook Anywhere if I connect to Exchange externally via a cellular USB modem the Security Warning window will appear every time I close and reopen Outlook. Whether I say Yes or No does not make a difference on whether or not I can connect to Exchange and send/receive email. In other words, I can always connect to Exchange. I've checked my two Exchange servers and my Cisco router for a certificate that matches this one and I can't find it. edit 2: Here is a screenshot of the Security Alert window. (I've been calling it Security Warning... My mistake.) edit 3: I stopped seeing this error several weeks ago but I can't tie it to any single event (because I just sort of realized that warning had stopped showing up) but I think I found the source of the certificate. Last week I found out that the certificate on our website DomainA.com was invalid. I knew that our web admin had installed a valid certificate so when I look into the problem I found out I was being presented with the invalid certificate that this posting is in regards to. The Exchange server's domain is mail.DomainA.com so I can only guess that Outlook was passing this invalid certificate through as it did some kind of check on DomainA.com. This issue is still a mystery because the certificate warning stopped appearing several weeks ago whereas the invalid certificate issue on the website was only fixed last week. It ended up being a problem with the website control panel. The valid certificate was installed but not being served for some reason and instead the self-signed cert was being served.

• Exchange over HTTP

  I have recently setup a brand new install of SBS 2011 and it is working well. Exchange is running as advertised and all users are happy. Now, there are 2 users who would like to work outside of the office and require email setting up in Outlook. No problem - Exchange over HTTP. However for some reason it's not working. They can access Outlook Web Access okay, but for some reason Exchange over HTTP / HTTPS isn't working. The error message I receive in Outlook is: "The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." I've tried temporarily turning off the Firewall on both the server and the client but this doesn't help at all. Is there something I'm missing or is there a permission that needs enabling to allow Exchange over HTTP to work?? Many thanks

• Why does Outlook 2010 give the message "Creating a new item from the selected items could take some time...are you sure you create a new item...?

  I'm using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2007. I am moving emails from my Deleted Items folder to a user-created folder. When I move a "low" number of messages, say a few hundred or less, the operation completes successfully. When I move a "large" number of messages (in this example it's over 800) I get the message shown in the screenshot below. If I click Yes, a new email is generated and has links to all the emails I selected in the Attachment field. When I cancel that email, not only have the messages not moved but they appear to be deleted entirely. What does the message mean and why does it get presented? Why does clicking Yes do the behavior I described above?

• Tasks not appearing in Mac Outlook 2011

  My current workplace uses Macs and my old workplaces used Windows. In my old workplaces I heavily used Outlook's Task functionality to manage my workload. I understand that the Task functionality in Outlook 2011 for Mac is heavily limited so I was very pleased to find this useful "how-to" on making the most of Tasks. My problem is that my tasks don't appear in the Task folder, or anywhere else for that matter. Even if I search for a the title of a task I've recently found I still can't find them. After some Googling I found this forum thread that suggests it may be a problem with the Outlook database, which points to a Microsoft KB. So I went through all of the recommended steps on rebuilding/ adding a new identity using the "Microsoft Database Utility" - the theory being that if I create a new identity I can test the task creation using a "blank slate" identity. When I change the default identity to my newly created identity using the Microsoft Database Utility (have to restart the computer) Task creation still doesn't work. Any ideas appreciated, I really miss the task functionality in Outlook 2010 for Windows.

• Contacts Issue: Google Contacts, Nokia 5800 And Outlook, Sync and Images

  Hello everyone, this is a multi-question, so please, feel free to answer just one or all of them. My actual situation is: Google contacts sync with Nokia 5800 using MFE(google sync), using google's fake "exchange server". Outlook sync with google using GoContact Sync software (http://www.webgear.co.nz/Products/GOContactSync.aspx). What I want, a easy(or not) way to correctly sync the three of them, even if I have to change some of my "escenario". I know outlook<-google contacts sync is not good yet, but if someone can suggest me some better SW than GoContact Sync. It'll be good. What I really want is to sync a least name, phone, email and image. Then, is there a way to get all my google contacts to by default use their own google image? I noted that, usually i have to manually choose it, and sometimes it doesn't work. I'll like to use something or someone's service to do this automatically. I have tried some services like Soocial, but it gives me a lot of trouble after the first sync, because soccial can ONLY get ALL your contacts, not just "My Contacts"; and also it gives me like 100 bad contacts in outlook because of their beta client. The final goal of all of this is to Get only "My Contacts" from google in Outlook and in the 5800 with their images Get ALL my contacts with their default image, meaning, the contact's personal image Get a solution to correctly sync the three of them, using Google's as the base for the rest of them. Thanks in advance. Again, feel free to sugest me solutions to just one or all them.

• Outlook users connected to exchange can email from other email accounts

  We have found an issue on our systems whereby an outlook user (both 2007 and 2010) connected to our Exchange server (2007) can send emails as other users using the following steps Within Outlook Click <New Email> Select the <From> button to show a list of accounts outlook contains, but it also shows the option Select<Other Email Address>. This brings up a small dialog box with another button which when selected allows the user to select an email from their contacts or the Active Directory. The user in most cases can select any email within the Active Directory and send an email as if it were coming from that selected email. It seems not everyone has this ability and I'm guessing it is something to do with settings in exchange or AD(version 6) or is there a group policy that can be implemented to stop users being able to do this. We have no idea what allows this and I have failed to find anything using Dr Google. No one has setup delegates within outlook but it does seem to be something similar? Does anyone know how to lock this down? Thanks in advance

• Setting Outlook Web Access as default mail client in Firefox

  The company that I work for is nice enough to let me use Linux for work, but they use Outlook. I've been using Outlook Web Access (OWA) as my mail client, which is more or less acceptable. The only problem is that whenever I click on a mailto link or use the "Send Link" menu option in firefox, I'm prompted to use evolution. Since connecting to an exchange server through evolution seems to be sketchy at best, I would like to set OWA as my default mail client. I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 Here's what I've found so far: Default mail client can be found at Edit Menu -> Preferences -> Applications Tab -> mailto When I click on the drop down menu, one of the options is "Application Details" This shows two options by default: Google Yahoo! Mail Each of these shows how to launch that service. For Gmail: https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s For Yahoo!: http://compose.mail.yahoo.com/?To=%s I presume that Outlook Web Access has something similar. Based on the googling that I've done so far, I think that this should look something like this: https://<server name>/owa/?cmd=compose... A little experimentation on my part shows that the following will compose a message: https://<email server>/owa/?ae=Item&a=New&t=IPM.Note but I still don't know how to specify recipient, subject or body of the email to be composed... What I want to know is a) does anyone know the URL parameters to compose a mailto in Outlook Web Access, including subject, recipient and body? else b) can someone give me a decent pointer for where to get this information?

• Outlook Signature Broken in Entourage

  Some of our company uses Windows with Outlook 2010, and the rest use Mac with Entourage. When our standard signature line is included in an email that goes to Entourage, the result does not display correctly. It appears that Entourage is mangling the HTML. My working theory is that Entourage encounters inline CSS styles it does not know about and stops processing styles, but I'm really not sure. Question: How can I enter a signature into Outlook 2010 that will render correctly in Entourage? For example, can I specify somehow the exact HTML to use? Here's an example of how the HTML is being changed. • Outlook 2010 not resolving SMTP address to Display Name

  I have a weird problem where a user (director, naturally) has an odd problem with the way the to field shows in his Outlook. We are using Outlook 2010 (with RPC/HTTP) and Exch 2003 at the back end. Most of his mail shows in his mailbox with the To: field as normal. (e.g. Fred Bloggs in the to field.) However, some mails come in showing in the To: field as [email protected]. (Apparently this is an issue!) For example, most show as: but a few come in as: There doesn't appear to be a pattern to this. I have tried to replicate by: Sending from any specific senders to see if it recurs (it doesn't) Typing his full name in my Outlook and sending (it resolves as normal) Sending programatically (e.g. from script) - (it still resolves OK) Forcing a "[email protected]" entry in my Outlook. It resolves as soon as I hit enter Sending in cached mode Sending disconnected Anyone got any ideas how I can either replicate the problem or fix it! I can't tell at the moment whether it is a problem at his end or the sender's. EDIT This seems to be a global issue, following some more digging. Most people seem to have a few emails in their inbox addressed to their smtp address, rather than display name.

• Office365 Exchange: Cannot open shared two calendars in Outlook

  The problem: Outlook won't open the calendars on another user's mailbox and and a room mailbox, even when users have permission. Note: This problem is affecting more than one account on more than one machine. So I have a room mailbox and a personal mailbox on Exchange, both with shared calendars. There is a security group called "Scheduling Users" that have editor rights on both of these calenders. The room mailbox was created using PowerShell, per the instructions posted online (http://help.outlook.com/140/ee441202.aspx). Sharing worked on both of these folders initially. Users can still access these folders using OWA. So on to the problem. When users try to open these calendars in Outlook they receive one of the following messages. The set of folders cannot be opened. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. Cannot open this item. Cannot open the free/busy information. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed. What I have tried so far: Resetting the permissions on both of the mailboxes. I deleted the security group permissions on both mailboxes, applied the change, then waited a bit and gave the permissions back. Deleted the OST file of the shared calendar from the Outlook data directory That is all I have been able to find online. Any thoughts? I have been going back and forth with the Office365 support folks for a while and they seem stumped too.

• Outlook 2010 - Missing New Mail Envelope Icon

  I've seen a number of posts related to this issue, but none with a solution that works for me. I have: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Office/Outlook 2010 "Show an envelope icon in the taskbar" checked "Hide When Minmized" selected "Show icon and notifications" selected for Outlook in my taskbar settings This used to show me the envelope icon in my notifications area. Then something happened with my user profile and the sys admins created me a new one. Since then, the envelope only displays if Outlook is not minimized. It doesn't matter if I unselect "Hide When Minmized", the icon still doesn't display when new mail arrives. If I select "Display a Desktop Alert", then the icon is displayed. However, I HATE the desktop alert as I find it too intrusive/distracting. Is there some way to just get the envelope icon working (again)? UPDATE More testing and sometimes I will and sometimes I won't get an envelope icon with the desktop alert turned on. This is driving me nuts!! UPDATE TWO I like my notification area of the taskbar to be clean. So, all icons are set to "Only show notifications" except for Outlook as noted above. I've noticed the envelope icon is being displayed in the expanded notification area when I click on the up arrow to view all icons. So, it is being added to the notification area, but not displayed. It's a rather useless feature now...

• Outlook 2010 PST not indexing

  I've had this problem for months: Outlook is unable to search recent items in the inbox. I was running Outlook 2010 Beta. I've just moved to the Trial version, hoping to solve the issue. I have tons of PST files but one central one I'm mainly concerned with. As of now it seems none of it is indexing. I've been through all the sites and made all the changes; rebuilt the index, changed the name of the PST files, run scanpst, stopped and started the search services, made sure the Windows features under programs and features has the indexing option checked, etc... Status now says 'zero items left to index', and 150,000 have been indexed. I think I have a lot more files than that, and also nothing is showing up on any search. I'm not sure what else to do? Side question. I'm going to be moving out of Outlook. However I have 10Gigs+ of PST files over the years. I want to merge them and make them search-able in the easiest way possible. Any idea on how to do that? Could I even move over to Thunderbird right now and be able to index and search my PST files? Also, Google Desktop won't index Outlook 2010 email either...

  Hello, I have two keyboard languages, Swedish and Amerikan English. Normally, I switch language by hitting [alt]+[shift] and it works like a charm. However, suddenly Microsoft Outlook has started to hang whenever I try to switch keyboard input language. Whenever i hit [alt]+[shift] or use the menu to switch language Outlook will hang indefinitely not responding. Why? and what can I do about it? I have English Windows 2000 and Outlook 2003 with the Google Search Desktop plugin.

  People Pane in Outlook 2010 either does not show any emails, or only shows some emails for other folders. I've tried re-indexing and recreating the profile, to no avail. I really like the new People Pane in Outlook 2010. Not for the "Social" features, but for finding related emails and attachments. But it just does not work. It is totally broken. Do you know some trick to make it work? Using 32-bit Outlook local version, without Exchange.

• How to prevent Outlook from receiving multiple copies of the same email

  This question might be asked already, but it's different from this one. My boss has Outlook 2003, when he synchronize his emails while connecting through the local server (using Exchange I guess) he gets his emails normally. Once he is outside (not connection to our LAN) he gets each email duplicated 3 or 4 times. Does anyone experienced this before? and how can we fix this? Please no links to FAQ pages. For info, we are using Kaspersky anti virus and Windows 2003 server, with windows XP clients. [Update] Actually we have a bunch of 5 or 6 email accounts on Outlook, and only one of them recieve duplicated copies of the same email, all the others are cool. Further more all these email are using the sae service, Gmail for example. [Update 2] I just found out that Outlook is configured to remove emails from the server already, also, some emails exceeds 5 copies! Thank you

They keep opening discretely, quietly as just another Outlook entry on the taskbar. And I keep overlooking them, because they pop up behind everything else. How do I make them less easy to overlook? (Yeah, usually you don't want obnoxious apps that push themselves to the forefront. But there are a few places where I do want that, and Outlook calendar reminders are one of them.)

• Use Outlook 2007 to connect to mail using active sync protocol

  Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. I just think it would be an elegant solution to get my lotus notes mail in outlook(my company uses lotus notes with traveler service installed that exposes mail over the active sync protocol so I can currently read my notes mail via iPhone). This solution would probably eliminate the need for all the hacks needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc) So, maybe someone out there has tried this or knows how to do it before spend time on more researching this.
