Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit doesn't work on a win7 with check point full disk encryption

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit with the Wubi installer on a Windows 7 with Check Point Full Disk Encryption. The Wubi Installer runs without any trouble selecting the compatibility mode with WinXP and as Administrator. The problem is that after the installation is complete and the reboot done, when you restart the system, there's no option to start Ubuntu instead of Windows. I recently installed Ubuntu on other Win7 machines without any problem. But those laptops don't have the Check Point Full Disk Encryption. And when you restart the system you have the option to start in Ubuntu. If somebody has resolved this issue please share...!!! Regards! Víctor

Constant crashes in windows 7 64bit when playing games

I've tried everything I can possibly think of in trying to fix this problem and I'm totally out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated: The problem: whenever I fire up a game, it works for a short while with no problems and then it would crash. Either its a hard crash, forcing me to reboot, or windows would report that the display driver has stopped working and recovered. Here is a list of things I've already tried: Drivers - tried the latest drivers (catalyst 9.12) as well as the stock drivers that came with the video card. Also have the latest BIOS/chipset Memtest - Ran Memtest86+ overnight, had no problems, the windows diagnostic tool also does not find any problems. Overheating - Video card/cpu temperatures are well below peak (42 and 31 Celsius receptively) PSU Voltage - CPUID shows that the voltage levels are all above what they should be. The PSU itself is only roughly 16 months old and is a good model. HDD - No errors when checked GPU - Brand new (replaced previous card since I thought it was the problem, apparently not) Overclocking - Everything is at stock levels, memory voltage is set to manufacturer's standard Specs: Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 ghz OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Memory: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB DDR2 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 1GB PSU: SeaSonic M12 600W ATX12V DirectX: DX11 Event Viewer after a crash always has these logged: A fatal hardware error has occurred. Mysterious Windows 7 slowdown problem

I have a fairly beefy machine: Intel Q9450 8GB DDR2800 (4x2) Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD Several other hard drives Windows 7 Ultimate 64 In the last month I've gotten a mysterious slowdown problem. When I start my IDE (IntelliJ IDEA) it usually takes about 20 seconds on the SSD. If my machine has been on for a day or two (as far as I can tell this is the only pattern) and I try to start the IDE, it brings my machine to a halt. CPU usage goes up to 25% per core (so it's basically 100% usage) and it takes up to 5 minutes to start. Other things I've noticed: iTunes will start to skip and stutter (my music is running off a second hard drive). The only persistent things I'm running are: AVG Anti-Virus Spybot (the slowdown predates this) Hamachi and Murmur (again the slowdown predates this) Apple Airport Base Agent HP OfficeJet 8500 driver/manager The browser I use is Chrome. I can't think why that'd be relevant but it's always on so I thought I'd mention it. When this happens I can't see a reason for it in the process list. No CPU hogs. No spikes in IO activity that I can see. Basically I'm at a loss to explain it and need to reboot, at which point everything returns to normal (for awhile). FWIW the Intel SSD is about 75-80% full. I know being too full can really degrade performance. I don't believe that's the issue here. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this or at least help find what's going wrong? This same machine (sans SSD) could run Win XP and stay up fine for a month or two.

Alternative Bluetooth Stacks for Windows 7 64bit

I have a notebook with an inbuilt Broadcom BCM2046 bluetooth adapter and several bluetooth HID-devices (mice, keyboards etc.) The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit Professional. The HID-devices all work perfectly with other computers, but on the system mentionend above, problems with some power-saving features inside the HID-devices occur (see eg. Amazon reviews for Microsoft Mobile Keyboard 6000 not waking up). I have tried the bluetooth drivers supplied by Windows update and the latest Broadcom drivers directly from the Broadcom updater software. The problems persist (I can rule out any further configuration issues or alternative device drivers, I have tried every possibility). I have tried a trial version of the BlueSoleil Bluetooth stack and it solved the wake-up problem. However the BlueSoleil stack causes some other problems, is relatively expensive and I would prefer not to use it. My question: are there any other alternative bluetooth stacks availible for Windows 7 64bit? To my knowledge there used to be Toshiba Bluetooth stack for non-Toshiba hardware, but the older versions I have found on the internet do not install, they do not seem to recognize the bluetooth hardware when installing the driver.

Windows 7 hangs with 100% disk activity but only when online

I have the same problem as seemingly many other people here, and I think we might all be experiencing the same issue: a compatibility issue in Windows 7 between hard drive and network controller or drivers. I've tried firmware updates of my entire board, wiping my drive and reinstalling from scratch. And yet the problem persists, which suggests it is an operating system error, as the hard drive checks out 100% physically. Additionally, the only time it does not occur is when in safe mode WITHOUT networking. With networking, there are spikes in disc access every so often and a huge flow of processes accessing the disc simultaneously that literally "stick" the disc, and physically jolting my computer unsticks it. Again, this has been tested for hours in a professional service environment, and without network access on, things are fine. As soon as there's network access available, the disc access occasionally cranks up to 100% and sticks everything. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, but this also happened under Norton, then McAfee. Again, this happened again after a complete wipe, so the likelihood of malware causing it seems low. I don't visit unsecure sites anyway, as far as I know. This, to me, narrows it down to a Windows 7 process that is somehow repeatedly corrupted, perhaps a corrupt .dll or driver, causing a conflict at the operating system level and temporary hard drive failure. I would encourage anyone who knows more about this stuff (which is probably most people!) to take a shot at this one, and I would encourage anyone else with a sticking hard drive in windows 7 64-bit to check on whether it occurs during safe mode without networking.

Installing ionCube on Windows 2008 64bit

I've been trying to install ionCube onto my server but have not been having a lot of luck! My server is: Windows 2008 64bit PHP 5.3.14 Thread Safe disabled running as FastCGI In my PHP.ini I have : zend_extension="C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext\ioncube_loader_win_5.2.dll" The path is correct. The DLL is from the x86 NONTS VC9 version of ionCube and PHP is using the MSVC9 (Visual C++ 2008) compiler though I have also tried using the x86 NONTS VC6 version of ionCube. I'm not getting any error but I'm also not getting ionCube when using phpinfo(): This program makes use of the Zend Scripting Language Engine: Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies Apart from the mail application pools I have also set all the applications in the application pool in IIS7 to use 32bit mode. I don't know if FastCGI is running under 64 or 32 bit mode nor how to switch it or whether it would make a difference? I know it can be a problem installing ionCube onto 64bit Windows but I have also come across threads whereby other people have also [somehow] managed to get it working but even though I seem to be doing the same as them I still can't get it working.

Can't install ubuntu 12.04 64 bit and 32 bit

I downloaded The Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, i burned it from a cd and when I tried to install it i only and get a black screen and saying Peter Arvin et al could not find kermel image I thought there's a problem with the file so i downloaded it again and install it then i always get the same message. I tried also 32 bit and i always get the same error. I tried also installing it from a usb and i always get the same. So i just downloaded the WUBI and works so fine to my computer. I'm using Sony Vaio E Series with a 32 bit system and 500 GB hard Disk Drive.

Do I assign different or the same class id to 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same IFilter?

I've implemented my own Microsoft Search IFilter. I need two versions of it - 32-bit and 64-bit for deploying them on corresponding systems. In case of IFilters for any file extension I can only register one IFilter class id. Which means I can only use one version on any system. So having two class ids seems useless - it only makes the automatic installer more complex. Do I reuse the same COM class id for both or do I use different class ids?

USB Keyboard not working under windows 7 x64?

I have two usb keyboards, one no-name cheapo thing and an old logitech. When i plug them in to my computer they pop up in device manager as "Unknown device" respective "USB-receiver". Both of them fail to install any drivers, neighter automatically or through windows update. Both keyboards work perfectly on another computer i have with vista 32bit. Can this be one of those cases where a device does not work in 64bit version of windows? I doubt it though since I've never had that problem before with any device and i thought that basic things like keyboards would be kind of failsafe. I don't really know how to start debugging this issue. I've tried all the obvious, rebooting, changing usb-port etc. Are there any generic x64 keyboard drivers you can use? Is there any way to find the manufacturer of the keyboard over usb? There is nothing written on it.

Windows Photo Viewer needs more ram?

Ok, so i went to open a picture with the Windows Photo Viewer (Default) application and it told me this: Windows Photo Viewer can't display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close some programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space (if it's almost full), and then try again. So looking at my 98% ram usage (thankyou VisualStudio x8 + SQL Server) I rebooted my computer. Now this is my load: And this is my hard-disk loadout: So now I go to load up that image again. SAME MESSAGE, what the heck? So apparantly 6gb isn't enough ram to open a 29k image that loads perfectly fine in MSPaint, Paint.NET, Photoshop It's a .png and it's not corrupt. So my question is: what gives?

Windows 7 x64 Pro not indexing PDF content ?

In an attemp to get rid of all the paper clutter that I receive each day, I started scanning and ORCing all my important documents last year. I was using Windows Desktop Search on Vista to index my "Administrative" folder in which I keep all these scanned documents, to be able to quickly retreive them when needed. I upgraded to Windows 7 RTM recently (I got the x64 Pro version, via the MSDN-AA channel of my university). Since then, it seems that the content of the PDFs is not indexed anymore. For example, I have the warranty for my GTX260 graphic card. In the PDF, using Acrobat Reader, I can search for the string "GTX260" and it finds the relevant lines. However, if I perform the same search in the folder containing the PDF, nothing is found. I checked in the indexing options, the folder is supposed to be indexed.

Where can I find drivers for Fujitsu Scansnap fi-5110 for Windows 7 x64

I have a Fujitsu scanner that I cannot get working on Windows 7 x64. I have downloaded both the TWAIN and ISIS x64 drivers from the fujitsu website but Windows still does not recognize. I have tried it out using GIMP and Paint.net, neither program sees the scanner. I have also tried the fi-5000N Configuration Tool from Fujitsu but to no avail. Set up tunnel to HE.net and now only ipv6.google.com works, but other sites ping fine.

I'm setting up IPv6 using my router which is running OpenWRT, version Backfire 10.03.1-rc4. I made a tunnel using Hurricane Electric's tunnel broker and set it up on the router and I'm using RADVD to hand out IPv6 addresses. My problem is that on computers on the network, I can only access ipv6.google.com using a browser, but other sites seem to be loading forever and won't open in any browser. I can ping and traceroute to them fine, but can't open them with a browser. I can open any site normally with a browser from the router. Stopping firewall service on the router doesn't help, so it's probably not a firewall issue. All AAAA records resolve fine, so it's probably not a DNS issue. Computers on the network get their IPv6 addresses fine, so it's probably not a radvd issue. Similar setup worked fine for SixXs, but I'm having problems with my PoP there, so I decided to move to HE. Suggestions for Troubleshooting WIndows 7 lockups

I've got a Dell Latitude E6500 that was working fine under Vista x64. I got one of the new Seagate 500GB Hybrid SSD/HD 2.5 drives and thought.. hmm.. let's try Win 7 x64 on it. Bottom line: It works great for hours and then it will hard lock. I don't mean BSOD (or whatever the Win7 equivalent is). I mean my screen is displaying a static image (if there is a clock displayed, it will be frozen at the time the lockup occurred) and the mouse and keyboard do not work. Control-Alt-Delete will not work. I have to hold down the power button to reboot. The event log records NOTHING at the time the lockup occurs. Obviously something is happening to the system to cause the lockup, but the default Windows 7 x64 doesn't log it. How can I log the things Windows doesn't normally log in Event Viewer ?

JRE not running correctly on Windows 7 64Bit

An application called DBGL (DosBox Game Launcher) requires JRE in order to run successfully. I had it installed and running on my old Windows 7 32Bit machine without any problems. Today I got my new PC with Windows 64Bit and I cannot get it running anymore. If I install the latest JRE 32Bit version to the \Program Files (x86) folder DBGL says it needs the latest JRE version in order to run and doesn't start. If I install the latest JRE 64Bit version to the \Program Files folder I do not get an error message anymore but the application doesn't start either. Clicking it has literally no effect. Right now I have both JRE versions running parallely and I get the same result I have when only the 64Bit version is installed. Thanks in advance!

Problems connecting to a linux file server from windows 7

I have an old Windows 2000 machine that I'm trying to replace because it is freezing periodically. It is used primarily for email but it does need to be connected to the two linux file servers ("dino1" and "dino2") that are in the office. When I tried to get the new Windows 7 machine to connect I can't find the user account that was being used (or I can't log on to the share). On the old machine the users all logged in as Administrator on the local machine and entered the password ("fuzzypickels") to log onto the share. To me, it seems like the username ought to be Administrator, but when I enter that with "fuzzypickels" it gives me an error that I've got either the username or the password or both incorrect. Is there something missing in my assumptions? Or is there something I can do to recover the username from the old machine?

Do you ever wish you could quickly preview a song without having to play it? Today we look at a quick and easy way to do that in Windows Media Player 12. Open Windows Media Player in Library Mode and select your Music library. Hover your cursor over the Title of the song and a Preview pop-up window will appear after a few seconds. Click on the Preview in the pop-up window and the song will begin to play. As the preview begins to play, you will see the Skip link and a song timer. Click on Skip to jump ahead 15 seconds in the song. When you are finished previewing the song, simply move your mouse away from the preview window to stop playback. Automatically Preview Songs You can adjust settings in Windows Media Player to automatically preview songs when you hover your cursor over the title. Select Tools from the menu and click Options. On the Options window, select the Library tab and click on Automatically preview songs on title hover. Click OK. Now when you simply hover your cursor over the song title the preview window will appear and playback will begin automatically. How do I install Citrix receiver?

Has anyone managed to get the Citrix receiver client working in 64-bit Natty (11.04). It seems libmotif4 won't install multi-arch (32 bit and 64 bit libraries). I also see crazy dependency errors despite the libraries being present. Here is what I received initially when trying to install icaclient.deb from Citrix; sudo dpkg -i Downloads/icaclient_11.100_i386.patched.deb dpkg: error processing Downloads/icaclient_11.100_i386.patched.deb (--install): package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64) Errors were encountered while processing: Downloads/icaclient_11.100_i386.patched.deb I then installed the 32 bit libraries. sudo apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk Then I noticed libmotif4 (a dependency of the citrix client) wasn't present so I installed the 64bit version. sudo apt-get install libmotif4 I then tried to force the 32 bit version; sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i Downloads/libmotif4_2.3.3-5_i386.deb dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled: package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64) Selecting previously deselected package libmotif4:i386. dpkg: error processing Downloads/libmotif4_2.3.3-5_i386.deb (--install): libmotif4:i386 2.3.3-5 (Multi-Arch: no) is not co-installable with libmotif4:amd64 2.3.3-5ubuntu1 (Multi-Arch: no) which is currently installed So I uninstalled the 64 bit version and tried to install the 32 bit version. TCP packets larger than 4 KB don't get a reply from Linux

I'm running Linux 3.2.51 in a virtual machine (192.168.33.15). I'm sending Ethernet frames to it. I'm writing custom software trying to emulate a TCP peer, the other peer is Linux running in the virtual machine guest. I've noticed that TCP packets larger than about 4 KB are ignored (i.e. dropped without an ACK) by the Linux guest. If I decrease the packet size by 50 bytes, I get an ACK. I'm not sending new payload data until the Linux guest fully ACKs the previous one. I've increased ifconfig eth0 mtu 51000, and ping -c 1 -s 50000 goes through (from guest to my emulator) and the Linux guest gets a reply of the same size. I've also increased sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_rmem='70000 87380 87380 and tried with sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing=1 (and also =0). There is no IPv3 packet fragmentation, all packets have the DF flag set. It works the other way round: the Linux guest can send TCP packets of 6900 bytes of payload and my emulator understands them. This is very strange to me, because only TCP packets seem to be affected (large ICMP packets go through). Any idea what can be imposing this limit? Any idea how to do debug it in the Linux kernel? See the tcpdump -n -vv output below. tcpdump was run on the Linux guest. Macbook Pro Triple Boot OS X Lion, Windows 7 and Windows 8

MacBook Pro (Summer 2010 Model, Basic Model) I currently have OS X Lion and Windows 7 running side by side on my MacBook Pro. However I have a need to get Windows 8 running as well in this mix (a Virtual Machine is not good enough, I need the performance). I have created a suitably sized parition (80GB) that is recognizable in Boot Camp. However every time I try to boot from the USB stick (that worked to install Windows 8 on my PC) using the latest version of rEFIt, it just boots Windows 7 and not the Windows 8 installer. I cannot start the installation within Windows 7 as it will just install over Windows 7. I'm guessing the Boot Camp emulation is doing something werid to stop the "Press any key to install Windows..." message from appearing (which should happen if the installer detects Windows is already installed (e.g. if you left your install disk in). Is there a way to get around this / force the installer to start? (Note I cannot start the Windows 7 installer either if I wanted to install a second copy of Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 8)

Slow upload, fast download on Windows 7 64bit system

I've got a weird problem in the download speeds on my desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) are consistently fast (approx. 400kB/s) but uploads are very slow (around 6-10kB/s). This has been going on for the last 3 weeks or so. I am a very competent user and troubleshooter, and have searched online for 2 weeks for a solution, to no avail. Part of the problem is that internet is provided by WiFi by my landlord and I have no access to the router (BT Home Hub router) although I know for sure he wouldn't have the first idea on how to restrict my usage :) (rules that out) Anyway, I've tried: - various drivers (my Wifi 'card' is TP-link TL-WN851N, and I've tried TP-link + Atheros + Qualcomm Atheross drivers, suggested by Microsoft) - various tweaks to network parameters (e.g. as suggested by SpeedOptimser) - various tweaks to Windows 7 services (e.g. disabling/manual-ing unecessary services) - raising and lowering head onto a reasonably firm surface at moderate frequency (jk :D) None of the above have helped, and I'm officialy asking for help now!! Access Clear Type in Windows 7 Click on the Start Menu and type cleartype into the search box and hit Enter. It should be enabled by default, but if not just check the box to enable it. Now, in the next step, you can enable it for two or more monitors if you have them. Or you could select an individual one if it works best for one but not another. Some people might want it turned off if they have a CRT and a LCD monitor for example. Now you can go through the wizard and pick out what resolution works best for the monitor(s) you choose. Just select the text in each step that looks best for you. Then finish it out… This is a cool trick you may not have known about that already exists in Windows 7, and it can definitely help you get the best look of the text on each screen if you’re using different monitors! Adding Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit DC to Windows 2008 Standard 32 bit Domain

All of our domain controllers (2) are Windows 2008 Standard 32 bit. We are trying to add a Standard 2008 R2 64 bit domain controller to the forest but for some reason during DCPROMO, we receive the following error: "to install a domain controller into this active directory forest,you must first prepare the forest using "adprep/forestprep" etc We went ahead an ran adprep /forestprep on our established domain controller and allowed time to replicate. When attempting to execute dcpromo again, we receive the same error. What gives?

Old Visioneer 5800 on Windows 7 64-bit?

Does anyone know of a way to get an old Visioneer 5800 scanner that's supposed to work with nothing past Windows XP SP1 to work on Windows 7 64-bit? I don't care about all the bells and whistles, just the basic features. Is there any kind of generic TWAIN interface that can be used?
