• How to dismiss modal view controller from UITabBarController

  Currently im developing an iPhone Game...When app loaded a login page is seen...when logged in...from login view controller a welcome screen view controller with tabbar(UITabbarcontroller iVar declared inside and connected to tabbarcontroller with interface builder) is presented(using presentModalViewCotroller)..There the first tab is dealing with account ..loaded from accountController NIb and view controller...inside which there's a logout button...when clicked i need to go to login page under loginview controller... Inside logout button click action method...i had coded like this [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:NO]; but on button click nothing happening... first : parent--loginviewcontroller child--welcomescreen view controller Inside welcome screen,in account tab,on logout button click: how could i dismiss the above MVC.... can anyone give me a solution as soon as possible...its urgent...

• Anyone realize success using Apple Mac OS 10.6 and Parallels 5 for a Visual Studio Dev machine?

  Greetings my wonderful StackOverflow family :) I grew up using Windows and switched to OSX as a Computer Science major in College. I've recently started my first real software developer job, and have a ThinkPad and Windows XP for developing ASP.NET / MS SQL applications (Visual Studio 2008). Question: Basically, I am wondering if any developers out there have had real success creating ASP.NET applications on a Mac using a VM? I've been fighting with Parallels 5 all week and finally have Windows 7 and VS 2008 running but my hot-keys are all screwed up. Is it worth the work to keep beating this thing into submission? Should I give up? Should I give Mono a try instead? Thanks Folks, I can't wait to see what you all think!

  Hi, I'm developing an iPhone application with FB connect, the JavaScript API includes really powerful methods like wait.on for combining requests... Any way using those API methods via iOS and Xcode? about the FQL responses, I'm using both: request:didReceiveResponse: AND request:didLoad: methods. all the FQL queries I send provoke didReceiveResponse but not all of them provoke the second one (didLoad). @"SELECT uid,eid FROM event_member WHERE uid in (select uid2 from friend where uid1=%d limit 100)", userID when the limit is 1-2 it provokes them all, when it grows too 100 (friends to fetch) it provokes only the first.. does anyone know this problem?   I'm developing a solution for Windows CE 6.0 using GuD_AtomKit X86 Device emulator. I'm not able to run any unit tests, because I get following error message: The test adapter ('Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestAdapter, Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Tips.UnitTest.Adapter, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a') required to execute this test could not be loaded. Check that the test adapter is installed properly. Exception of type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.SmartDevice.TestHostAdapter.DeviceAgent.TestAlreadyRunningException' was thrown. But there's no unit test running on the device. I would really appreciate your help.

• What are the characteristics of spaghetti code?

  Somebody said that when your PHP Code and application use global variable then it must be a spaghetti code (i assume this). I use wordpress a lot. As far as i know, it's the best thing near a great php software. And it use many global variables to interact between its components. but forget about that, cause frankly, that's the only thing i know. so it's completely biased ;D so just curious, What is the characteristic of spaghetti code ? ps : the only thing i know is wordpress. so, Hopefully, maybe this will help somebody give great answer for somebody who have a little experience on developing full web application on PHP (for example, stack-overflow website)

• My map callouts don't display the image when clicked

  I am developing an iPhone application for a university project and I'm new to iPhone development. I have looked through Apple's MapCallouts code but it doesn't seem feasible to implement it. So far my code displays a map, drops annotations, displays the title and it displays the right call out button. But this is where I encounter problems. When I press on the callout button, it displays a blank view controller but it should display a different image for every callout that's tapped and this isn't happening so far. • Disconnect a bluetooth socket in Android

  Hi, I'm developing a program in which, from an Android Phone, I have to connect as a client to a Bluetooth medical sensor. I'm using the official Bluetooth API and no problem during connection (SPP profile), but when I end the socket, the sensor is still connected to my phone (although I have close the connection). Are there any way to make a Bluetooth disconnection? I think there is an intent called ACTION_ACL_CONNECTED, which does that. Can anyone explain me how to use this? Thanks in advance.

• Jetty 6: Unknown Error 99

  The system I'm developing is comprised of a jetty server (v6.1.2rc4) and a php frontend that sends http requests to jetty via curl_exec. The server and the client are on the same machine. The requests I send can be both POSTs and GETs, I get the same error for either which is: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Unknown error 99 This is rather cryptic. It seems that after the first problematic request, some of the following (unrelated) requests also get corrupted. It looks like jetty is simply refusing the connection, but I can't read more than that into the error message. I thought it was a problem with the server's configuration, so I tried changing jetty's maxIdleTimeMs, but without success. Any idea about what to do is welcome thanks, Silvio

• Decent JavaScript IDE

  What is a decent IDE for developing JavaScript, I'll be writing both client side stuff and writing for Rhino. Ideally It needs to run on Mac OSX, although something that runs on Windows too would be nice. ADDITIONAL: Having had a play with both js2 and Aptana, I think I'll be continuing to use Aptana. Mainly because I find emacs a bit hard to get my head round, although I did think that the error hi-lighting in js2 was better than that in Aptana. I'm still looking for a way to visually debug my js code that is running atop Rhino...

• Windows 7 running as server

  I'm developing a program using Windows 7. There are WCF services (soap, rest) that are used by currently by Silverlight but very soon I'll start development of the mobile application that would make use of these services. On day to day basis I use Mac and Apache to host my website, but during the development of this program I would like to use IIS7 to put my services online. I have absolutely no problems to access all the services via localhost but as soon as I'm trying to connect through the internet I get "The connection has timed out". I'm sure that my router is configured right as it works perfectly fine when I'm on Mac OS, but it looks like Windows simply blocks incoming connections from outside; I cannot even connect from another computer on the same network. So is there a way of using Windows 7 as server with IIS7 or is it only possible with Windows Server? I know it might be like enabling/disabling one setting somewhere but I just cannot find it. Please help.

• Can I use jQuery Ajax in a SharePoint WebPart without having to worry about the same origin policy?

  Hi all, My current project for work involves developing a SharePoint 2007 WebPart which will be deployed by our clients. To provide a better user experience, I am "simulating" AJAX via setting the SRC attirbute of an IFRAME to be the address of an HTTP handler. These handlers are deployed to the layouts directory in the 12 hive. Although this works, I would prefer to use the $get() method of jQuery. Will this work reliably in my scenario or will I still be subject to the same origin policy? What about the scenario where the WebPart is being deployed to various places on a SharePoint farm? Will there be any problems with using $get() in that case? Thank you!

  I'm developing a site that will display confidential readonly information, with data fetched from a WCF service. My question: What is the best approach to user management across different information pages. The service returns a collection with customer info after a secure login. My idea is to have a Customer object class that is stored in session. Is it possible to use things like HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated followed by HttpContext.Current.Session["UserId"] without using a database with role-based security? Would I be better off with a combination of local database, Linq to SQL or datasets rather than using just class objects for data fetched from service? thanks, nakori

• How good is my method of embedding version numbers into my application using Mercurial hooks?

  This is not quite a specifc question, and more me like for a criticism of my current approach. I would like to include the program version number in the program I am developing. This is not a commercial product, but a research application so it is important to know which version generated the results. My method works as follows: There is a "pre-commit" hook in my .hg/hgrc file link to .hg/version_gen.sh version_gen.sh consists solely of: hg parent --template "r{rev}_{date|shortdate}" > version.num In the makefile, the line version="%__VERSION__% in the main script is replaced with the content of the version.num file. Are there better ways of doing this? The only real short coming I can see is that if you only commit a specfic file, version.num will be updated, but it won't be commited, and if I tried to add always committing that file, that would result in an infite loop (unless I created some temp file to indicate I was already in a commit, but that seems ugly...).

I wanna use SVN as the version control but Im not sure what the best way to set it up is. Do i make the actual html directory on the server be the repo so that when I check things in it goes live? Do I make it a separate directory and move things over by hand? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

• Is it possible to use flashvars with JBoss?

  Hi, I'm part of a team developing a product using JSF 2.0 and I was asked to investigate the possibility of including FusionCharts free in the app. I have tried different ways of inserting a simple chart in a JSF page but with no luck. On of the methods involves using the elements OBJECT and EMBED but hhen I try to use them I get a "null source" error from JBoss. From what I could find online (through Google), I am under the impression that 'flashvars' isn't quite compatible with JBoss. Is anyone here able to confirm this? If this is the case, what workaround would you suggest me? Other ways I also found online didn't show the chart not even an error message. Thanks in advance.

• Location of my own directories

  Hello, I am trying to understand how to create my own directory tree and access it from my application. I am doing some kind of learning program and want to create a directory structure like this: -MyLessonsDirectory --LessonDirectory_1 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 --LessonDirectory_2 ---Step_1 ---Step_2 ---Step_3 . . and so on In each "Step"-directory I will have specific content for that step of the lesson. The content is added by me while developing. Hence, I don't want to create the structure and content from within the application, just access it and reading the content of the directories. If I can create this kind of structure and use it it will be very easy to create a nice design that makes it easy to create new lessons in my app. What I cannot figure out is where I should create those directories in the file-structure in xCode and what is the path to those directories from my application. • Making the shadow from a ScatterViewItem a different shape

  I am developing a program for Surface using Expression Blend and Visual Studio. I have a custom user control with an ellipse and a label in a grid. This will need to be placed in a scatterViewItem. My problem is that the scatterviewitem will cast a rectangle shaped shadow under the ellipse shaped content. I can disable the shadow completely, but is there any way to make the shadow inherit the shape from its parent? Or can i set the shape of the scatterviewItem itself in any way?

• Error opening streamreader because file is used by another process

  I am developing an application to read an excel spreadsheet, validate the data and then map it to a sql table. The process is to read the file via a streamreader, validate the data, manually make corrections to the excel spreadsheet, validate again -- repeat this process until all data validates. If the excel spreadsheet is open, then when I attempt to read the data via a streamreader I get an error, "The process cannot access the file ... because it is being used by another process." Is there a way to remove the lock or otherwise read the data into a streamreader without having to open and close excel each time?

• How to organize code using an optional assembly reference?

  I am working on a project and want to optionally use an assembly if available. This assembly is only available on WS 2008 R2, and my ideal product whould be a common binary for both computers with and without the assembly. However, I'm primarily developing on a Windows 7 machine, where I cannot install the assembly. How can I organize my code so that I can (with minimum changes) build my code on a machine without the assembly and secondly, how do I ensure that I call the assembly functions only when it is present. (NOTE : The only use of the optional assembly is to instantiate a class in the library and repeatedly call a (single) function of the class, which returns a boolean. The assembly is fsrmlib, which exposes advanced file system management operations on WS08R2.) I'm currently thinking of writing a wrapper class, which will always return true if the assembly is not present. Is this the right way to go about doing this?

I have a hard time understanding how to layout my project. i making a Pong game and my current design is to allocate an NSWindowController from my appDelegate.   As a concluding assignment for the technologies taught in a data management course, we have to write a web application using the technologies taught throughout the course, this mostly includes xhtml, css, JSP, servelets, JDBC, AJAX, webservices. the project will eventually be deployed using tomcat. we are given the option of choosing the technologies that we see fit. since this is my first time developing a web application I am having some uncertainties about where to start, so for example now I am writing the object classes that will be used in the database and implementing the operations that will be performed on the database, but I am not sure about how to make these operations available to a client through the website, I mean I think I have to write a servlet through which I can extract the request parameters and set the response accordingly, but I would still like a more specific overview of what I am going to do, so if someone can link me to a tutorial with an example that makes use of these technologies while illustrating the stages of the design so that I can see how all these things are linked together in a web project. thanks

  Hi All, I am developing an embedded system and very new to this TCP\IP. My problem is that once I installed my board in a local network and this board will acquire its IP address dynamically, it has to communicate with a client application running on one of the PC(other than DHCP server) in the network. To communicate with this new board the client application is required to know the IP address of the board. What is the way to know the IP address of the board? Will UDP broadcast work for this purpose? If yes please, explain in detail as I am unable to understand it. Please provide me some sample code in C if possible. Regards, Satinder

  Hi all, I'm currently working on developing a customizable website layout using jQuery, so I can drag, drop, add and remove blocks of content... much like the iGoogle interface. I have my blocks dragging and dropping working with 3 columns of content My question is to do with adding and removing blocks If I use hide(), I can simply hide and show the blocks. If I use remove, I would have to append the list of blocks to load in a new block into a column. I'm not sure which is the best approach to take. I'd be grateful for any advice on best practise, i.e. to hide() or remove() and any other advice on building this kind of interface. Thank, Sam.
