• What is the Browser version of a WebBrowser control in Windows Forms

  I'm building a Windows Forms application which makes use of the WebBrowser control. Can anyone tell me what rendering engine the control uses? Is it fixed based on the version of the .NET framework I'm developing against or is it based on the version of IE installed on the client's machine? Does the client even need IE? In other words, if a website looks right in my application on my machine, is it reasonably safe to assume it'll render right on everyone else's machine? Thanks!

• Javascript Hex String to Image

  Hello everyone. I'll cut right to the chase. Right now I am developing a web based application. It has a PHP REST based architecture that serves up XML documents. On many of these documents attributes are hex encoded picture strings. On the client side jQuery AJAX fetches an XML document with a picture in it. I need to display said picture in some <img> tags. However my knowledge on such methods is lacking so here I am asking for help. Goal: JavaScript String variable in hex or base64 HTML displayed image. Cross browser is required, or a hack for the ones that do not support it is fine. Thanks, Gunnar

• Entity Framework with File-Based Database

  I am in the process of developing a desktop application that needs a database. The application is currently targeted to SQL Express 2005 and works wonderfully. However, I'm not crazy about having this dependency on SQL Express and would prefer to use a small file-based database. My problem is that I am using Entity Framework. I have tried both SQL Compact and SQLite, and they both have bizarre problems with EF v1. I get errors creating the Model, invalid models when it does get created... it's a nightmare. I'm about ready to give up and write a data layer and repository in the good-old-school Connection/Command pattern. Not my favorite plan... Is there a lightweight, file-based database out there that plays well with EF? OR Is there a better ORM tool that I should use instead of EF with my lightweight DB?

• How to test Calendar Event on emulator?

  Hi everybody, I am developing an application which requires to add Calendar event. I have written the code for inserting event to the calendar. But whenever i run my application, everytime i get error that "Fail to find provider info for Calendar" and it also throws me NullPointerException error. So, what it means and i found that emulator doesn't provide Calendar application in-built. I think if the Android Emulator doesn't have Calender API, so, naturally, it will not have any database URI in the emulator whereas the Contact has URI --"content://contacts/people". I also found the URI for Calendar as "content://calendar/calendars" but it doesn't work and it means that it gives me error cause of missing Calendar application. Can anybody clarify me, with suggestions regarding Calendar Event? Which is the way to test my application with Calendar Event? I really need your help. Please needful for the same. Thanks. • Flash causing jerky javascript animations

  Hi Guys, I'm developing a site which has a flash background playing a small video loop scaled to fill the whole background. Over the top I have a number of HTML elements which are animated using javascript. The problem I am having is that (predominantly in FF, but also in others to a lesser degree) the flash seems to be causing my javascript animations to run rather jerky, and in some cases missing the animation altogether and just jumping to the end state. Does anybody have any thoughts on how to make the 2 work together nicely? Many thanks Matt

• Speech recognition with Flash or Silverlight

  I'm developing a web user interface to enter some information that is not very complex but needs to be loaded in real time. I think that the application could make use of speech recognition to facilitate the task. Te core of the interface is being built with Javascript and jQuery, but can easily include a flash or silverlight component. I believe that´s probably the way to go... I don't need to recognize everything that the user says, but only a few prerecorded commands. Also, I don't want the user to click on a button to specify the begining and the end of the spoken command. It should be detected live. Is there anything that does this? I would be grateful if anyone tells me about a complete solution, free or commercial, as well as any advice on capturing a sound stream from the mic and process it with flash or sliverlight. • Is there a sample set of web log data available for testing analysis against?

  Sorry if this isn't strictly speaking a programming question, but I figure my best chance of success would be to ask here. I'm developing some web log file analysis algorithms, but to date I only have access to a fairly small amount of web log data to process. One algorithm I want to use makes some assumptions about 'the shape' of typical web log data, and so I'd like to test it against a larger 'exemplar' - perhaps the logs of a busy site with a good distribution of traffic from different sources etc. Is there a set of such data available somewhere?   I'm developing an ETL process, and need a bridge table for a one-to-many relationship between a fact table and a dimension table (MySQL database). There is a limited number of combinations (some thousands), so I want to re-use group keys from the bridge table to to limit the size. Any group of dimensions belonging to a fact row will consist of a number of dimension keys (1 to around 15), assigned to a unique group key, as below: group_key | dimension_key ----------------------- 1 | 1 1 | 3 1 | 4 2 | 1 2 | 2 2 | 3 3 | 1 3 | 4 How do I go about retrieving the unique group key for the dimensions 1,3,4 (ie. 1).

• Issue connecting to SQL Compact Edition on Windows Mobile 6 Emulator

  I am developing an application for Windows Mobile 6 using an emulator. When I try to open the database connection to the SDF file it is throwing an exception that it is not able to connect or find the file. My questions are: Where on the mobile device is the SDF file supposed to be deployed? Does the SDF file get automatically deployed to the emulator when I build the project (like in then windows forms app) or do I have to do that manually? Any help would be appreciated.

• How to handle security constraints using GWT 2.1's RequestFactory?

  I am currently developing a GWT 2.1 application that is to be deployed on Google App Engine. I would like to realise the server communication using the new RequestFactory. Now my question is how to handle fine-grained security issues in this context? Some server actions (of those declared in the RequestContext stubs) shall be restricted to certain users (possibly depending on the parameters of the remote call). If a call is unauthorised, I would like the client to show a login page (so that one may log in as a different user, for example). From the Expenses example, I know how to implement an automatic redirection to a login page, but in this example, the security model is quite simple: A client is allowed to access the servlet if and only if a user is logged in. Shall I raise a custom UnAuthorizedException in my server-side service? Where should I intercept this exception? (Can I do this in a servlet filter like the GaeAuthFilter of the Expenses example?)

I've been using django-registration for user registration so far but I would really like to allow users to login to my site using their Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc accounts. I am using addthis sharing buttons. I just noticed they introduced a social sign in solution. The idea seems great, you integrate your authentication system with their service once, and your users can login via all of the popular social networking sites. Has anybody integrated addthis social signin plugin with a django website? How can you use it along side django-registration? Are there any similar, alternative solutions?

• How do I prevent a font from extending off the top of a textbox?

  I'm using a barcode font (IDAutomationMC39H) in an SSRS 2005 report I'm developing, and while it renders fine in the preview in BIDS, if I export the results to PDF, print the results, or do any of the above (including preview) in Report Manager, the barcode font is extending off the top of the textbox. The barcode itself is nearly 20px tall, even at only a 12pt size. I've tried changing the CanGrow value for the textbox, but it seems that even with that set off the barcode isn't pushing the bottom edge of the textbox downwards, it's simply extending over the top of the box. I've also tried resizing the textbox to allow it to contain the entire height of the font, but even with the VerticalAlign set to Bottom the barcode still sticks to the top of the textbox and overflows out the top. • How to detect that a server had closed the socket / crashed in the client side ?

  Hi all, I am developing a Client/Server application. I would like to know how can I detect that a server had closed the socket or had crashed in the client side (my android App) I am running on one side my android app, that is connected. On the other side I am running netcat (for testing purpose). I Would like to know what signal is sent to my client socket or what happen when I kill netcat. Because now, I immediately get an error message that impose me to "Force Close" my application. How can I handle it properly ? Thank you

• How to place text on top of image in ReportViewer

  I feel very silly asking this, since it seems like it just should work, but I cannot make it work and cannot find anything in the documentation about this. The problem: I'm developing an application in Visual Studio 2010 that is utilizing ReportViewer, rendering the report locally. In the report designer, I place a textbox on top of an image. This looks fine in the designer, but when rendering the report, the textbox is rendered below the image. Now, before you suggest it, I have tried placing a textbox on top of a rectangle (or other control) with the BackgroundImage property set. This works. But: I cannot find a way to rescale the background image to fit the control. Setting a different dpi for the background image does nothing. Simply rescaling the image to a different resolution is not an option, since I eventually want to print the report. Does anybody have a solution to this?

• Simple string encryption in .NET and Javascript

  I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC application in which I want to encrypt a short string on the server, using C#, and send it to the client-side. Then on the client-side it will be decrypted through Javascript code. Any thoughts on how to implement this? Do you know of a simple encryption algorithm (doesn't have to be bullet-proof secure) that can be easily translated from C# to Javascript or vice-versa? NOTE: I could do this entirely in C# and do the decryption through Ajax, but I'd prefer not to do it this way, as I want to reduce website traffic as much as possible.

  I am developing a firefox extension and ideally would be able to get the whole darn DOM as a string.. forget any data structure. I just want what I see in "view source" in a buffer. I have been checking out javascript references and HTMLDocument etc. with no avail. Ideally I would be able to write to this buffer as well (seems possible i.e. document.writeLn()) I wish there was a document.read()? Am I just a js noob?

• Multiple Broadcast Messages with Less Data or Less Broadcast Messages with More Data?

  Hi, I am developing an application which is communicating with the server. Tha application can perform log-in and get different parameters from server. The application consists of a RESTful client (custom class for making requests), Communication Service (the service which runs in the background) and the main activity. For now I created multiple broadcast messages and multiple broadcast receivers in the main activity so when the application performs login operation a receiver (loginBroadcastReceiver) in the main activity receives a message and when another parameter is received from the server different message is broadcasted and another receiver handles the message. This way however the application performance is poor but I am not sure whether it is due to multiple broadcast receivers. Does anyone know what is the best way to exchange data between service and main activity - is it better to create a single broadcast receiver and retrieve all parameters from message or is it better to initialize multiple broadcast receivers for multiple parameters? I would appreciate if you could provide any useful resource about the topic because I'm writing the thesis and it would be good if the solution could be explained.

  we are developing an SWT/RCP(Eclipse 3.5) application on both Windows and Linux (on identical hardware). The application is a GIS app which shows several layered maps(PNG images) rendered with alpha blending. org.eclipse.draw2d.Graphics.setAlpha(...); org.eclipse.draw2d.Graphics.drawImage(...); On Windows the performance is pretty good, but on Linux it is very poor. is that a Linux(GTK/KDE) problem? or is there any workaround to improve the performance on Linux?

• GIS: When and why to use ArcObjects over GDAL programming to work with ArcGIS rasters and vectors?

  Im just starting off with GDAL + python to support operations that cannot be done with ArcGIS python geoprocessing scripting. Mainly I am doing spatial modeling/analysis/editing of raster and vector data. I am a bit confused when ArcObject development is required versus when GDAL can be used? Is there functionality of ArcObjects that GDAL does not do? Is the opposite true too? I am assuming that ArcObjects are more useful in developing online tools versus Desktop analysis and modeling where the difference is more to do with preference? In my case i prefer GDAL because of python support, which I believe ArcObjects lack. thanks!

Inside logout button click action method...i had coded like this [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:NO]; but on button click nothing happening... first : parent--loginviewcontroller child--welcomescreen view controller Inside welcome screen,in account tab,on logout button click: how could i dismiss the above MVC.... can anyone give me a solution as soon as possible...its urgent...

• No GPS updates on Galaxy S3

  I'm developing a GPS tracker and it works like a charm. But a couple of weeks ago a customer of me (a trackage company) bought Samsung Galaxy S3 for his drivers. And since that we have really strange behaviour of my app. The app receives location updates from GPS receiver, but after some hours of work it doesn't receive any location updates. I have registered the app for onGpsStatusChanged() too and in this time onGpsStatusChanged() was called (I see that GPS receiver have 10-17 satellites!), but the method onLocationChanged() was not called! After the service restart (=re-registering of LocationListener) it works again. It is really strange. It seems that after some hours of work the GPS reciever is not in the mood for calling onLocationChanged() :) Any idea what may be wrong?
