• How to customise the TextView inside a Spinner?

  I have a Spinner with an ArrayAdapter that feeds Values into it. The Problem is that the text is to long for the view and the result is a very very ugly spinner. As can be seen in the screenshot: I tried to pass the Id of my own TextView into the Adapter but everytime the spinner should be shown I get an Exception that the Id I supplied is not valid: 04-26 17:38:39.695: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4276): android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: Resource ID #0x7f09003a type #0x12 is not valid Where do I have to define the TextView? In a separate xml file? With a surrounding viewgroup? It would help me a lot if I could see an example of the adapter initialization and the textview definition?

• Ruby on Rails updating join table records

  Hey, I have two models Users and Roles. I have setup a many to many relationship between the two models and I have a joint table called roles_users. I have a form on a page with a list of roles which the user checks a checkbox and it posts to the controller which then updates the roles_users table. At the moment in my update method I am doing this because I am not sure of a better way: role_ids = params[:role_ids] user.roles.clear role_ids.each do |role| user.roles << Role.find(role) end unless role_ids.nil? So I am clearing all the entries out then looping threw all the role ids sent from the form via post, I also noticed that if all the checkboxes are checked and the form posted it keeps adding duplicate records, could anyone give some advice on a more efficent way of doing this?

  I want to hide the title bar for some of my activities. The problem is that I applied a style to all my activities, therefore I can't simply set the theme to @android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar. Using the NoTitleBar theme as a parent for my style would remove the title bar for to much activities. Can I set a no title style item somewhere?

Suppose rows are like this: 1, a1, b1 2, a1, b2 3, a1, b3 4, a2, b4 5, a2, b5 6, a2, b6 I want to convert it to 1, a1, b1 2, a1, b1 3, a1, b1 4, a2, b4 5, a2, b4 6, a2, b4 So I want to make all the b_id corresponding to a_id same, and equal to the one which is found first. • iPhone - Make loadView entries fill up parent view?

  I have a loadView call that basically places one view at the top (like a header) and one at the bottom (like a footer). It's possible via a passed in parameter to not have a header or a footer, to hide them later, or to resize the view. I have all this working, but it's very susceptible to breaking because the views can go in various places of various sizes and all must be manually set to the correct size or they will not use up all the space. I want one in between the two of them that automatically resizes to fill whatever space is not taken by the others. loadView doesn't seem to be able to obtain the size of its parent's frame (or where it's being fit in, exactly), nor do I see an obvious way to just put the center view at a certain position and have its width and height automatically adapted. Any ideas? If I'm not explaining myself well enough and you know Java Swing, think BorderLayout with a BorderLayout.NORTH, BorderLayout.SOUTH, and BorderLayout.CENTER component.

  Is it possible to configure Hibernate reverse engineering and code generation tool in such a way that one-to-many relation between tables is mapped to entities inheritance instead of enrites relation? I have Person table and Employee table, which are related with the foreign key (Person contains basic information, Employee the rest). In my Java code I would like this relation mapped to inheritance Employee extends Person. This can be done by hand, but maybe I missed some custom configuration parameter that I can use. • Create DataGridView columns from Table values

  Hi, I am using data grid view to display items as excel spread sheet in VB.NET. I got a table named CostTypes with column names [CostTypeID, CostType] and values [1,External] and [2,Internal] (These are constant but more values can be added to table). I want to create columns with names of the values[External , Internal] in DataGridView. If I use databiding directly I get columns [CostTypeID,CostType] which is not what I am looking for. If some one could explain how to create columns at runtime in datagridview or how to retrieve data from data base using LINQ so that [External , Internal] turn out to be columns that would be great. • Displaying Data on the Form with C#

  I'm searching files and returning lines that include the search text, and I'm not really sure the best way to display the information I get. Every time I get a match, I want to show, in some sort of control, the File it came from, and the whole text line. (aka streamreader.ReadLine() result). First I tried just putting it all in a read-only text box, but it doesn't have a scroll bar. What is the best form control to help me display this data neatly?

• Why is BorderLayout calling setSize() and setBounds()?

  I'm trying to get my head around proper use of the different LayoutManagers to make my GUI design skills more efficient and effective. For me, that usually requires a detailed understanding of what is going on under the hood. I've found some good discussion of the interaction and consequences of a Container using BorderLayout containing a Container using FlowLayout. I understand it for the most part, but wanted to confirm my mental model and to do so I am looking at the code for BorderLayout. In the code snippet below taken from BorderLayout.layoutContainer(), note the calls to the child Component's setSize() method followed by setBounds(). Looking at the source for these methods of Component, setSize() actually calls setBounds() with the current values for Component.x and Component.y. Why is this done (and not entirely redudant?) Doesn't the setBounds() call completely overwrite the results of the setSize() call? if ((c=getChild(NORTH,ltr)) != null) { c.setSize(right - left, c.height); Dimension d = c.getPreferredSize(); c.setBounds(left, top, right - left, d.height); top += d.height + vgap; } I'm also tring to understand where/when the child Component's size is initially set (before the LayoutManager.layoutContainer() method is called). Finally, this post itself raises a "meta-question": in a situation like this, where the source is available elsewhere, is the accepteed protocol to include the entire method? • Help with an SQL query on a single (comments) table (screenshot included)

  Please see screenshot Goal: id like to have comments nested 1 level deep The comments would be arranged so that rating of the parent is in descending order the rating of the children comments is irrelevant The left hand side of the screenshot shows the output that Id like. The RHS shows the table data. All of the comments are held in 1 table. Im a beginner with SQL queries, the best I can do is: SELECT * FROM [Comments] WHERE ([ArticleId] = @ArticleId) ORDER BY [ThreadId] DESC, [DateMade] This somewhat does the job, but it obviously neglects the rating. So the above statement would show output where Bobs Comment and all of the children comments are before Amy's and her childrens comments. How can I run this query correctly?

• Firefox 3.5.9 pushes down input:text when all other browsers render it fine

  Hi, I have run into a really odd bug with FF3.5.9 (and potentially lower) where it is moving the input:text below the input:submit. The strangest thing with this is that it is working on IE6/7/8, Chrome, Safari and Firefox 3.6. Here is a test page so you can see how it is marked up: http://paste-it.net/public/s6479e6/ I can fix the issue for FF3.5.9 by adding padding-bottom (15px) but this then puts the other browsers out of action. Has anyone else had a similar issue and found a fix? Seems like such a minor issue but I just can't find a fix for it and I am not really into having to absolute position the inputs as that seems too hacky! Thanks for your time, Ad

• How to center drawableTop and text vertically on the Button in Android?

  I have the Button defined as follows: <Button android:drawableTop="@drawable/ico" android:gravity="center" android:id="@+id/StartButton2x2" android:text="@string/Widget2x2StartBtnLabel" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="@drawable/widgetbtn_bg" /> The problem is that 'drawableTop' image is aligned to the top border of the Button view. I would like to center it (together with text label) vertically on the button. 'android:gravity' seems to work only on text label. It does not affect 'drawableTop' positioning. I was able to center it vertically using 'android:paddingTop' - but that does not seem to be a good idea. I guess it would not work properly on different screen resolution/size.

• Set height of Flex Accordion to height of tallest child

  By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected. My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

  I am storing the response to various rpc calls in a mysql table with the following fields: Table: rpc_responses timestamp (date) method (varchar) id (varchar) response (mediumtext) PRIMARY KEY(timestamp,method,id) What is the best method of selecting the most recent responses for all existing combinations of method and id? For each date there can only be one response for a given method/id. Not all call combinations are necessarily present for a given date. There are dozens of methods, thousands of ids and at least 356 different dates Sample data: timestamp method id response 2009-01-10 getThud 16 "....." 2009-01-10 getFoo 12 "....." 2009-01-10 getBar 12 "....." 2009-01-11 getFoo 12 "....." 2009-01-11 getBar 16 "....." Why does this left join query not give the same result for a query and a table? And how can i get the right results using a query in the left join?

• HD Crash SQL server -> DBCC - consistency errors in table 'sysindexes'

  Hello A client of mine has had an HD crash an a SQL DB got corrupt : They did not make backups so they have a big problem. When I tried (an ultimate measure) to DBCC-repair I got the following message. Can anybody help me with this ? Server: Msg 8966, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not read and latch page (1:872) with latch type SH. sysindexes failed. Server: Msg 8944, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Table error: Object ID 2, index ID 0, page (1:872), row 11. Test (columnOffsets->IsComplex (varColumnNumber) && (ColumnId == COLID_HYDRA_TEXTPTR || ColumnId == COLID_INROW_ROOT || ColumnId == COLID_BACKPTR)) failed. Values are 2 and 5. The repair level on the DBCC statement caused this repair to be bypassed. CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 1 consistency errors in table 'sysindexes' (object ID 2). DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.
