  • How can I manage hostnames across multiple servers? [closed]

    In a lot of documentation I've seen recently, servers are referred to by internal hostnames, such as production-1, production-2, db-1. I realize I can associate these names in the hosts file on the server, but this would obviously mean maintaining a host file for multiple servers, which for anything greater than 2 or 3 would get unwieldy. Is there some simple way people manage common hostnames across multiple servers and keep them in sync, without having to edit multiple files every time?

  • Defines JEE 5 the handling of commit error using bean managed transactions?

    I'm using glassfish 2.1 and 2.1.1. If I've a bean method annotated by @TransactionAttribute(value = TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW). After doing some JPA stuff the commit fails in the afterCompletion-Phase of JTS. GlassFish logs this failure only. And the caller of this bean method has no chance to know something goes wrong. So I wonder, if there is any definition how a jee 5 server has to handle exceptions while commiting. I would expect any runtime exception. I'm using stateless beans. With SessionSynchronisation I could get the commit failue, if I use statefull beans. Is it possible to intercept, so I can throw an exception, that I've declared in my interface?   • Problem running standalone Glassfish v3 client as Eclipse plugin

    Hello, I'm developing a standalone client that invokes some EJB methods on Glassfish v3. This works well until I'm integrating the client into an Eclipse plugin for running in our RCP application. In this setting there seems to be a classloader problem on initializing the naming context and I get the exception listed below. (The client has gf-client.jar and all its dependencies on its classpath.)   • How can I use a class with the same name from another namespace in my class?

    I have two classes with the same name in different namespaces. I want one of these classes to reference the other class. The reason is that I am migrating to some newer code and I want to update the old code to simply pass through to the newer code. Here is a super basic example: namespace project { namespace legacy { class Content { public: Content(const string& url) : url_(url) { } string url() { return url_; } private: string url_; }; }} // namespace project::legacy; namespace project { namespace current { class Content { public: Content(const string& url) : url_(url) {} string url() { return url_; } private: string url_; }} // namespace project::current; I expected to be able to do the following to project::legacy::Content, but I am having trouble with some linker issues. Is this an issue with how I'm trying to do this, or do I need to look more closely at my project files to see if I have some sort of weird dependency issues? #include "project/current/Content.h" namespace project { namespace legacy { class Content { public: Content(const string& url) : actualContent_(url) { } string url() { return actualContent_.url(); } private: project::current::Content actualContent_; }; }} // namespace project::legacy; The test application compiles fine if I try to reference an instance of project::current::Content but if I try to reference project::current::Content from project::legacy::Content I get an: undefined reference to `project::current::Content::Content(...)` UPDATE As it turns out, this was a GNU Autotoolset issue and was unrelated to the actual topic. In the xml file that I was given the child and parent nodes are defined within the attributes of the item element. How would I be able to utilize the attributes in order for the treeview to populate in the right hierarchical order. (Example Mary Jane should be a child node of Peter Smith).   • Question about the evolution of interaction paradigm between web server program and content provider program?

    Hi experts, In my opinion, web server is responsible to deliver content to client. If it is static content like pictures and static html document, web server just deliver them as bitstream directly. If it is some dynamic content that is generated during processing client's request, the web server will not generate the conetnt itself but call some external proram to genearte the content. AFAIK, this kind of dynamice content generation technologies include the following: CGI ISAPI ... And from here, I noticed that: ...In IIS 7, modules replace ISAPI filters... Is there any others? Could anyone help me complete the above list and elabrate on or show some links to their evolution? I think it would be very helpful to understand application such as IIS, TomCat, and Apache. I once wrote a small CGI program, and though it serves as a content generator, it is still nothing but a normal standalone program. I call it normal because the CGI program has a main() entry point. But with the recenetly technology like ASP.NET, I am not writing complete program, but only some class library. Why does such radical change happens? Many thanks.

  • Burned DVD essentially has no content and the DVD is not bootable when creating on Mac OSX

    I have been unsuccessful when burning downloaded ISOs to a DVD on OSX - the burned DVD essentially has no content and the DVD is not bootable. I've tried Ubuntu versions of 11.x and 12.04 with no success. Further, I took the DVD out of an Ubuntu Unleashed book (v11.x), and am unable on several OSX laptops to read the DVD. The applications to manage ISO disks on OSX are really straightforward, and they properly function with ISOs of other linux distributions. Is there a problem with Ubuntu's? Or is it just me?

  • PHP Templated site w/ file_get_content links

    Ok so i have a template script my friend built for me. I'll include all file names OK so what is not working is file_get_contents is not grabing the content (1 I don't know where the content should be placed and 2 i want it placed in a directory so that IF i change the template the area where content stays is the same.   • Story of success: MySQL Enterprise Backup (MEB) was successfully integrated with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) via System Backup to Tape (SBT) interface.

    Since version 3.6 MEB supports backups to tape through the SBT interface.The officially supported tool for such backups to tape is Oracle Secure Backup (OSB).But there are a lot of other Storage Managers. MEB allows to use them through the SBT interface. Since version 3.7 it also has option --sbt-environment which allows to pass environment variables, not needed by OSB, to third-party managers. At the same time MEB can not guarantee it would work with all of them.This month we were contacted by a customer who wanted to use IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) with MEB. We could only say them same thing I wrote in previous paragraph: this solution is supposed to work, but you have to be pioneers of this technology. And they agreed. They agreed to be the pioneers and so the story begins.MEB requires following options to be specified by those who want to connect it to SBT interface:--sbt-database-name: a name which should be handed over to SBT interface. This can be any name. Default, MySQL, works for most cases, so user is not required to specify this option.--sbt-lib-path: path to SBT library. For TSM this library comes with "Data Protection for Oracle", which, in its turn, interfaces with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), which uses SBT interface. So you need to install it even if you don't use Oracle.--sbt-environment: environment for third-party manager. This option is not needed when you use OSB, but almost always necessary for third-party SBT managers. TSM requires variable TDPO_OPTFILE to be set and point to the TSM configuration file.--backup-image=sbt:: path to the image.
