• Open Source projects that use agile methods or have tried them

  I'm preparing a short talk for a conference in august and I'm looking for open source projects that are using agile methods internally or have tried them in the past. My goal is to talk about the things that work well and what won't work and promote the agile methods a little bit, because I think certain agile techniques are a good fit, but don't seem to be that common in real development. So does anyone know projects that have tried agile methods and techniques before? I'd like to contact them for a few questions.

  I try to draw rain and snow as particle system using Core Graphics. In simulator rendering proceeded fine but when I run my app on real device rendering is slow down. So, advise me please approaches to increase particle system drawing performance on iPhone. May be I should use OpenGL for this or CoreAnimation?

  Say I have an environment variable myvar myvar=\tapple\n when the following command will print out this variable perl -e 'print "$ENV{myvar}"' I will literally have \tapple\n, however, I want those control chars to be evaluated and not escaped. How would I achieve it? In the real world $ENV residing in substitution, but I hope the answer will cover that.

• Console output spits out Chinese(?) characters

  This is a real shot in the dark, however maybe someone had a similar issue. Some console apps are being invoked by either SQL Server 2008, or Autosys (job schedule) under Windows Server 2008; output results of execution are being saved into .txt files. Every so often, with no definite pattern as far as I can tell saved output is displayed as a series of what I presume are Chinese characters. Have anyone encountered phenomenon above?

  I have this method in my book model: def get_absolute_url(self): return "/book/%s/%s/%i/%i/" % ( self.book_title, self.book_editor, self.book_pages, self.id) So the urls of each book are like this: example.com/book/the-bible/gesu-crist/938/12/ I want that if there is an error in the url, then I get redirected to the real url by using book.id in the end of the url.   I am having trouble installing the latest version of IE namely version 8.0.6001.18702. I downloaded the install from Microsoft but when the install is completed, the version number is reported as IE 8.0.6001.18702IC. This version does not work on all web applications and I need to get the correct final version installed. The problem is compounded by the installation downloading any updates from the Microsoft site so that there is no real control over the final version you get. Any ideas?

• How to resize an image smoothly (with resampling) using Windows API calls?

  I need to resize images and resample them so they don't end up all jagged (I think that's called aliasing). I found some code (sorry, lost the link) that does this in pure VB6 code but it's a bit slow (2-5 seconds) and I'm displaying pictures in real time so I need something faster. I seem to recall seeing some examples of doing this with the GDI+ library. An example in VB6 would be ideal, but I can probably work with a simple example with Windows API calls in another language.

• PHP Curl Not formatting quotes properly; producing weird character set for single/double quotes

  I wrote a html scraper to scrape my various social identites, so I can make a real time 'biography' website. However after using php curl_exec, I find that texts that I have quoted, end up being formatted in a weird character set. ex: "I love dogs" gets formatted to ’I love dogs ’ "I hate cheese" gets formatted to “I hate cheese� How do I either scrub these characters, or set curl not to format quotes like this. Also, I have turned off magic_quotes.

I'd like to know how well my app runs, like how much memory it uses. I just don't know where to find something like: "As close as we can tell from the simulator you'll app will currently be using xx MBs of RAM on a real iphone device."
