  I have an HP Mini 110 with Splashtop OS as an 'instant on' OS. I've updated to the newest version which has a Chromium browser...and not too much else You know what would be really cool? The newest Chromium/Chrome OS build on there instead Can someone in the know tel me if this is even possible? (just to be clear, I don't want to put Chrome OS on my hard drive or boot to a USB drive. I want Chrome OS installed in the same place that Splashtop is installed.)

Added later I don't share my computer Do I still need an antivirus?

  Is there some Live Linux distribution (on CD, DVD or USB), which allow one to use specific xorg.conf file, i.e. specific X11 configuration? The problem I am trying to solve is to find Linux Live distribution for web browsing which would work well with NEC LCD 22WV monitor. It is supposedly DDCCCI capable, but X.Org X Window System autoconfiguration fails to detect proper modeline, and uses fallback 800x600 screen resolution, instead of preferred screen resolution of 1680x1050.

  What is the best way to format a USB drive with FAT32 (for Mac compatibility) from within Windows 7/Vista? I ask because the Disk Management only lets you pick exFAT (because the disk is over 32GB I believe). Doing it from the command line with diskpart doesn't seem to work either.

Win7 recognizes the monitor resolution of 1920x1080, and many others. WinDev doesn't; the best resolution I get on that OS is 1600x1200.   Hi my friend has a samsung NP530U3C and he has changed the bios to CSM only now it stuck on a loop and will not boot up, the options "F2 setup" "F4 recovery" are there but they do nothing.I have a bootable USB with win 8 that "installs" right up to restart then....back to the loop or in stall.Please can some one help its been driving me mad i just need to get tothe bios and change it back to EFI/CSM.   I'm attempting to change the boot device priority on a older HP. When it starts up it flashes a HP splash screen then just goes black with a blinking caret. I tried the suggestion of leaving it off for 5 sec then hitting F1. No dice. I'm using a USB keyboard. I might grab a PS2 and give it a go. Any other ideas?

  So the Sysinternals guys have that cool contig.exe utility that allows me ensure a file is contiguous. I need to copy overs ISO files to a FAT32 USB flash key. Grub4DOS requires the files be continuous, but I do not have Windows access at the moment. Is there a way to copy a file so it is contiguous on the target drive, or a tool like the aforementioned that will make an existing file contiguous. Again, I need it on FAT32, and there lies the rub.

  I need to run fsck in order to repair my one and only hard-disk. I have no rescue CD/USB available. I did the following: touch /forcefsck chmod a+rw /forcefsck # just to be really sure reboot But no fsck happened on reboot, though the /forcefsck file quietly disappeared (why BTW?)! I saw some responses on the Net suggesting a shutdown -rF to auto-run fsck on reboot, but the shutdown I have on my F16 does not have any -F option.

• OSX: cant create a partition because drive is locked

  Problem: I have a USB key with Mountain Lion on it and I want to install it on my macbook pro. I deleted the existing partition on the laptop and wanted to created a new one were to install the OS but cant because everything in the partition tab for the drive is grayed out. Basically, I can't do anything until I unlock the partition So the question is: how to unlock a partition from disk utility or the command line.

• Is it safe to just yank an external hard drive if you know nothing is writing to it?

  Yes, I know somewhat about the possibility of data corruption if there was data that hadn't been all written to it. But I just saw this: Note:If u remove HDD(not USB sticks) without safely removing it,its not healthy and will affect life. So, if nothing is actually writing to it, could there actually be any harm caused by not safely removing or unmounting it before disconnecting it?
