  I have linux apache mysql and php server. My website uses the php mail() function and the server's postfix server to email other people. I successfully installed SPF and DKIM on my server to reduce the likelihood of my website's email-outs from ending up in people's spam boxes. In my research, I stumbled on Domain Keys which seems to be a "historical" version of DKIM. Do the big web mail services like Google, Yahoo and Hotmail still use Domain Keys? If not, then maybe I don't need to install it?

  I've got a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. The downloaded ISO boots fine from both a USB pen drive and a DVD on other computers. On the Acer it doesn't boot. The Acer iDea 500 can boot, and install, Windows XP Mediacenter from a DVD with slipstreamed SATA drives on it. Also, all kinds of Linux distros works perfectly fine on the iDea 500. I wouldn't mind using Mythbuntu instead of Windows 7 Ultimate, but it doesn't work very well.

  I am attempting to install "uploadprogress" for a PHP application, and have failed on dependencies. Firstly, on phpize, then php-devel, then on autoconf and automake. I have tried yum, and various repositories, with no luck. I think it's to do with the ultra-tight but annoying set up they have on Rackspace Cloud servers. Does anyone know where I can find a repository that I can tell yum to look at that will contain php-devel, autoconf, automake, etc? Thanks ever so much.   I manage phone systems for multiple clients. Each system uses the same administrator software, but it runs on different versions depending on what version of firmware is installed on the system controller. The software is downloaded directly from the system controller so it's the right version. For example, if the controller runs on version 5.0.2, you have to run version 5.0.2 of the administrator software. You can't administrate a 5.0.2 controller with a later versions of administrator software. Bottom line, you have to have the right version of software to log into the controller. The software is not executable on its own, you have to install it. So every time I want to log into a different controller, I have to reinstall the right software. Any way to get around this? I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x86.

  I've manually downloaded, unpacked and installed the latest Eclipse (3.6.1) on a debian server (2.6.26-2-amd64). Eclipse can now be run by all users in our group, but when I tried to install the StatET plugin, I quickly found out that this one was only visible and useable for me. I have a sudo password on my account and a root password. I wondered if sudo eclipse was all I needed to do, but as I'm very new to the whole sysadmin thing (our old one is on "prolonged leave" and currently working in Spain) I rather check before blowing up the server. Any help on how to configure Eclipse for all users simultaneously is very much appreciated.

  Hi, We have purchased an unmanaged VPS windows hosting solution from one of the UK based companies. We have Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. We need to install certain third party applications on that server. Unfortunatelly, one of the applications requires a MAC address to be present at all times - this is their way of making sure that software is not pirated (which it isn't). We have tried installing a virtual loopback network card, but this has brought the server down - i.e. we couldn't connect using remote desktop any longer. At the moment we are limited with what we can try. This is an unmanaged solution, therefore any support including restarts is rather costly. Are you aware of any low-risk solutions? Thank you

  When creating a new instance on AWS using an official Ubuntu 12.04 server AMI, what differences are there compared to if I was to do a standard server install on a computer of my own? For example, the default user is 'ubuntu'. An SSH public key is added to that users authorized_keys file. Sudo is passwordless for that user. PasswordAuthentication is disabled for SSH. etc etc. Configurations have been changed from their defaults, and I'd like to know if there is a list, or somewhere I could find out the modifications made.

I had been using Window's Vista; but needed the XP component of "7" As part of the price I paid; I have a fully licensed, unopened "7" disc; with all of the drivers included. The technician warned me about the "nag" screen; that asks me to install my licensed copy at any time. Without thinking; I downloaded all of my usual software programs before installing the licensed copy. Here is my question: I hope this won't sound obvious: Will it overwrite my downloads?

  How can I install Flash for just Firefox and not Safari? I would like to have Flash not load at all, so the Click to Flash extension is not good enough. I've looked at the Safari plist and don't see any way to disable it. Alternatively, updating the Flash plugin that is built into Chrome would solve this. I used to use Chrome for my flash only browsing, but Google is not updating the embedded flash player. I found the way to force Chrome to ignore it's built in plugin in this Adobe KB article, but then Chrome just uses the plugin installed for the system.

• Why do I have no TTY on a basic Ubuntu 9.10 server install?

  I have reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10 Server several times on a bog standard 1RU server and each time I finish the install and reboot I see GRUB run and am then presented with a black screen. The machine is running just fine, as I am able to SSH in, but I can't see anything on the attached monitor. I have a simple LCD screen connected via VGA and a signal is apparently being output to it, as it doesn't go asleep. Looking at /var/log/syslog I see: Mar 24 14:57:44 bridge5 rsyslogd-2039: Could no open output file '/dev/xconsole' [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2039 ] However, I later see: Mar 24 14:57:44 bridge5 kernel: [ 0.001368] console [tty0] enabled Any thoughts?   I'd like to know if it's possible to create and use a printer in Azure Worker Roles. I do know that I can install printers with basic batch commands. So I could define a batch script that would run as a startup task. something like: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "printer" /f %windir%\inf\ntprint.inf /r "file:" /m "printername") Question: Can I use a printer to print to file, maybe to local storage? I do need the function to print to file or atleast to have a printer installed, because I have to get the PCL output from different installed printers. Sadly I can not test it by myself. I do not have a CC to join the 90 days trial.

  I have a computer that has a dead CD drive in it and it seriously needs a new installation of Windows (XP is on it now, but Windows 7 does not sound that bad). At first I tried making a bootable USB drive, but it does not look like the BIOS supports booting directly from a USB drive. Is there some sort of boot loader that I can put onto the hard drive first and boot from the USB drive using that? If not, how else can I re-install Windows on the computer? Edit: The only bootable device the computer has it the network with PXE (although I have no idea how to do that) and it's three internal hard drives

  I am building a new computer and have already installed XP Pro on drive 1 partition 1. Drive 1 is a 500 gig SATA with 4 partitions (1 = 50 gig, 2 = 50 gig, 3 =200 gig, 4 = 200 gig). Drive 2 is a 160 gig SATA with 2 patitions (1 = 60 Gig, 2 = 100 gig). I would like to install win 7 on drive 2, partition 1 to dual boot with xp on drive 1, partition 1.   I installed a 30-day "test drive" of QuarkXpress, but got pulled in to other projects and didn't have time to test it. I now need to test it, but the 30 days are up. One thing I have on my HD at the moment that takes up a lot of room but is rarely used is a partition with a bootable version of Windows 7 (I'm on a mac). Would it be possible to install a bootable copy of Windows 7 onto a flash drive? I was thinking of using a 64gb Sandisk Cruzer USB 2.0, so that when I need to dip into Windows every now and again I could just plug in the flash drive.

  I have a production server running Ubuntu 12.04 and I would like to install on it a VM with Gitlab (using Vagrant and Virtualbox). Let's say that the address to access Gitlab is gitlab.mydomain.com . The DNS zone has been configured to point to the IP address of the server. I want users to be able to access to Gitlab (either for pushing to a repository, or for accessing to the web interface) from the outside. The VM has been configured to have an IP address. It means that when browsing http://gitlab.mydomain.com for instance, the request has to be forwarded to the VM on the server, ie. to the VM IP address. What are the ways to configure this? Can Apache be used as a proxy? In this case, I guess it only works for HTTP requests, but not for pushing to a Git repository on the VM.

  For historical reasons, one of the machines that I manage has a Redhat Enterprise 4 boot disk (among others). Every now and then, we have to boot into RHEL4 to bring up some of the legacy software that we support and connect to. Since it's a fringe system, the Redhat support has long since lapsed and I can't convince myself that it would be worth paying just to get RPMs that I can go and get for myself. That said, the default RHEL tools are heavily biased against letting you do exactly that. I would like to install yum and use that as my package discovery and installation. So, is there an installation guide to integrating yum with an older RHEL 4 system?

• IP not detected in terremark enteprise cloud server - how to install VMware on instance?

  Using terremark enteprise cloud, when you create a server, you assigned an IP address to them and that IP is visible under Detected IP when selecting the server. However, I created a server, with IP address and I created an internet service and connected it with a node. I used protocol TCP and mapped it to port 3001. But I notice when I select my server, the IP address doesnt dsplay under Detected IP and then I VPN Connect, launch terminal and try to SSH with the IP to my server, and I get connection timed out. I presume the reason lies in that the IP address is not being detected. Someone suggested that my VMware-Tools is out of date and in fact on the server instance for VMware-Tools it does say "out of date". I'm not sure how to mount the instance and install VMware-Tools. I am using Mac OSX. Someone said that it will only work on PC running IE.

So, formatting the c: won't affect the boot manager. yesterday i wiped and repartitioned my hdd like this: 50mb primary ntfs (meant for boot manager) 100gb primary ntfs (for win 8) 50gb primary ntfs (for win 7) some logical partitions to install ubuntu and other os i installed win 7 and then win 8, and now there is no os choosing menu. system directly boots win 8 and the 50 mb partition is empty. There is a way to boot Windows 7 and even Ubuntu directly from the Windows boot manager with EasyBCD. But How do i put the boot manager in the 50mb partition ?

  On my Mac OS X machine, how would you recommend I install command line software and other packages? I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)
