  I noticed that sometimes when browsing (with other processes in the background), I get very high CPU load for the browser process (over 100%) and the computer becomes really slow. I tried switching from Firefox (with just a few extensions) to Chromium, but same thing happens without me visiting graphics-intense sites, flash sites or anything like that. I also noticed python or node (when running "make") produce the same high CPU load from time to time so this is not necessarily browser-related. When I only have a browser open, it doesn't seem to happen and everything is fine in Windows 7. I switched from unity to gnome3 with no effect. Specs: lenovo w510 (4gb RAM, i7 q820 @ 1.73) + up to date Ubuntu 14.04 64bit. Printscreen: http://imgur.com/8MZJNKC Do you guys have any idea why this might happen?   http://gaming.adobe.com/technologies/flascc/ Developers can now access UDK for browser applications. Does this mean greater performance than using a Stage3D engine (Away3D 4) and how much of a noticeable difference in performance would it make in rendering speeds? Is there any benchmark you could propose that would allow to compare them fairly? I am asking this to help myself understand the consequences in performance for deciding to use UDK in a browser based game. I would also like to know how it compares with UDK running natively in Windows? I am not asking which technology to use or which is better. Only interested in the optimizing rendering speed in a 3d browser game with flash.

One part of the task is rendering of the virtual world in a browser (3D or pseudo-3D). The rendering engine should a) work in a browser and b) ideally - be compatible with mobile devices (i. e. the representation of the virtual world should be visible both on desktop computer and mobile devices with the same codebase).   I would really like people to beable to use my locked computer to surf, so I would like some way to run a browser on login screen. So can I make GDM run firefox in some way? It would be cooler if I could have a browser as a screensaver, but that seems a bit harder. Please ignore all the security problems with this, if you let someone use your computer you have lost that race anyways. Though of course it would be nice to have a browser running as another user.

• How do I change a local apps locale in LTSP?

  I'm wondering how to change locale (UI gtk) inside local apps to ru_RU for example instead of en_US. Ror example i install chromium-browser inside client image chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 apt-get -y install chromium-browser ltsp-update-image --arch=i386 booted from thin client i see LDM in ru_RU lang login to x session (gnome) everything is in ru_RU but trying run ltsp-localapps chromium-browser and see chromium with en_US interface...BUT i need in RUSSIAN i've added file on both host (/etc/default/locale) and thin client image (/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/default/locale) with LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=ru_RU.UTF-8 LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8 but nothing changed lts.conf also has LDM_LANG=ru_RU.utf-8 in it... Is it possible to change lang of localapps?

• How can I remove the security/malicious user warning from my website?

  I have a domain name tradespring.net, and www.tradespring.net that redirect to my heroku app with a CNAME record. However when I first try to access these sites it gives me a malicious warning This is probably not the site you are looking for! blah blah blah then "proceed anyways" or "back to safety" Its because my browser realizes that it is redirecting. How can I make sure anyones browser (not just my browser) trusts this site and my heroku app? I dont think i need an SSL certificate because this site is not sending sensitive info (credit card info, ect.).

  The steps involved in transmitting form data from the client to the web server User loads web form User enters data in to web form fields User clicks submit On submit page validates fields using JavaScript. If validation errors are found then the validation script stops the browser from canceling posting the data to the web server and displays error messages as needed If the form passes the data validation process then the browser will URL encode the values of every field and post it to the server.  The server reads the posted data from the query string and then again validates the data just to ensure data consistency and to prevent any non-validated data because JavaScript was turned off on the clients browser from being inserted in to a database or passed on to other process If the data passes the second validation check then the server side code will continue with the requested processes

  I have a Linux VPS, DirectAdmin as web panel and already set a domain to it. everything is OK and I can see my website in my browser using domain name. Now I need to have access to my site using its IP address. something like http://86.57.88.29, but when I try to load my site in a browser using its IP I get below message and I have to post-fix my IP with /~admin (http://86.57.88.29/~admin) to get it work. This IP is being shared among many domains. To view the domain you are looking for, simply enter the domain name in the location bar of your web browser. So how can I configure my IP to point to my public_html folder without and ~admin like phrase? Thanks.

• Is it time to drop Courier from your monospace font stacks?

  I've been fine-tuning my font stacks lately and was wondering if it's safe to drop Courier from my monospace font stack yet? Would you feel comfortable dropping it? Of course, monospace is my final fallback. Note 1: OS Testbed: WinXP, WinVista, Win7, iPhone, iPad Based on my research, these browsers now substitute Courier New for Courier by default: IE9+ Chrome 2+ Firefox 10+ Safari 3.1+ iDevices Note 2: The default "font-family: monospace;" renders as Courier New in every browser I've tested, from IE6 through the latest iPhone/iPad devices. EDIT: One exception is Opera 12, which renders Consolas on Win. Opera 10 renders Courier New. Note 3: I've noticed that Courier refuses to render with any font smoothing (anti-aliasing) in any browser I've tested, regardless of system and/or browser display settings. Probably because it's an old bitmap font. This could be because of my system setup, however.

• Are RSS feeds used? [closed]

  I was thinking about implementing RSS feeds on my site. The one thing that came to mind is Are RSS feeds ever used?! I don't use them nor know anyone who does. I know to use them it must be through an rss feed program or built in with the browser. I like my browser clean and i know many ppl dont know how to use/configure their browser. So with my thoughts i deducted that rss are not used 99.9999% of people (thats 4 decimal places which is really saying something). Now twitter on the other hand or even email may be used. But I have doubts about rss feeds. Can anyone give me statistics or change my mind on implementing it? I suspect it would be simple but i dont think i should bother if no one will ever use it. I dont even use SE/SO RSS feeds.

• is box-shadow (CSS3) really not ready to use? (according to "CAN I USE")

  I have a problem that I want you to help me, I am currently making a website, I am building that website on HTML5 and CSS3 technology, every feature I'd like to use I check it first in "CAN I USE", the technology I use most is box-shadow, and I already made some great things with it but, I have a doubt about the percentage of browser that don't support that technology, the percentage of browser that do not support box-shadow is around 17.12%, and if you see the conclusions (show options = other options = show conclusions) they say that that feature isn't ready yet because they are "Waiting for Opera Mini 5.0-6.0 to expire", I personally think that the best that we can do in order to make people update their browsers is not support older browser, but ... am I right thinking like this? will I have bad consecuences if I don't support older browsers? is worth to work twice just to support older browsers? should I still working with box-shadow?
