  • How do quickly search through a .csv file in Python

    I'm reading a 6 million entry .csv file with Python, and I want to be able to search through this file for a particular entry. Are there any tricks to search the entire file? Should you read the whole thing into a dictionary or should you perform a search every time? I tried loading it into a dictionary but that took ages so I'm currently searching through the whole file every time which seems wasteful. Could I possibly utilize that the list is alphabetically ordered? (e.g. if the search word starts with "b" I only search from the line that includes the first word beginning with "b" to the line that includes the last word beginning with "b") I'm using import csv. (a side question: it is possible to make csv go to a specific line in the file? I want to make the program start at a random line) Edit: I already have a copy of the list as an .sql file as well, how could I implement that into Python?

    In my rails app I have a search bar where users can search other users. Currently when a User submits the search from, they're redirected to a "results" page. I want to load those results in a div on the same page..     I'm trying to add a background color to a user submitted search result when a user enters a search term on a page (which is basically one big table). This is a text based search. I'm using jquery to show/hide the table rows that do not have the search term as text within the TR, but I'd ideally like to take the additional step of taking the search term (the entered value), and matching any of those text terms in the remaining (showing) rows and adding say a yellow background to the word(s).     I have been playing around with an installation of SOLR that indexes some data from my database. I am able to index data and query it back but I was wondering about how field name queries work. For certain fields I am able to specify their name and the search text to have the results return as expected and for other fields, when I specify their name and search text, no results are returned. q=type:book //(this will work) q=type:book AND title:"The Title" //(no results returned) In this example, type is a required field and title is not. For the example where I search by title, I can see the document in the results of the first query having the given title so I know that a document exists that matches this search. Is making a field 'required' the only way to be able to search by field name? [edit] I'm using the default installation and the 'example' folder inside of solr, editing the xml files and using the interface available through start.jar to be able to run, index and query.

  • Image-free, custom-styled search bar

    I'm working with the designer and he sent me the following design for the search bar on our webpage: I'm very much against using images in webpage design unless completely necessary, so I'm hoping that I can recreate the whole search bar widget in CSS. I know how to do border-radius, gradients, box-shadows, etc, so that's not a problem. Question: Assuming CSS3 browser compatibility, how can I go about recreating the actual search button (the magnifying glass portion) with the double curved edge, and the slight drop shadow on the bottom left? Thoughts: My initial feeling was that the search button would be circular and free-standing, then overlap the search input div with a negative left-margin, but then I was unsure how I would get that drop shadow. Edit: I'm not completely opposed to using an image for the magnifying glass, but I've seen a similar icon created in CSS before. Would an image vs. pure CSS end up loading at the same speed, or should I do all I can do in pure CSS?

  • trie reg exp parse step over char and continue

    Setup: 1) a string trie database formed from linked nodes and a vector array linking to the next node terminating in a leaf, 2) a recursive regular expression function that if A) char '*' continues down all paths until string length limit is reached, then continues down remaining string paths if valid, and B) char '?' continues down all paths for 1 char and then continues down remaining string paths if valid. 3) after reg expression the candidate strings are measured for edit distance against the 'try' string. Problem: the reg expression works fine for adding chars or swapping ? for a char but if the remaining string has an error then there is not a valid path to a terminating leaf; making the matching function redundant. I tried adding a 'step-over' ? char if the end of the node vector was reached and then followed every path of that node - allowing this step-over only once; resulted in a memory exception; I cannot find logically why it is accessing the vector out of range - bactracking? Questions: 1) how can the regular expression step over an invalid char and continue with the path? 2) why is swapping the 'sticking' char for '?' resulting in an overflow? Revised question: why during backtracking is the position index accumulating and/or not deincrementing - so at somepoint it calls w->alpha[pos]... with an invalid position that is either remaining from the next node or somehow incremented pos+1 when passing upward?

  • How can I truncate an NSString to a set length?

    I searched, but surprisingly couldn't find an answer. I have a long NSString that I want to shorten. I want the maximum length to be around 20 characters. I read somewhere that the best solution is to use substringWithRange. Is this the best way to truncate a string? NSRange stringRange = {0,20}; NSString *myString = @"This is a string, it's a very long string, it's a very long string indeed"; NSString *shortString = [myString substringWithRange:stringRange]; It seems a little delicate (crashes if the string is shorter than the maximum length). I'm also not sure if it's Unicode-safe. Is there a better way to do it? Does anyone have a nice category for this?

  • WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

    I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template?     Hi guys, i recently got a prebuild application which uses MYOB odbc connection to myob file. the odbc connection works perfectly in that application i uses the same odbc connection string in other application but it failed to open in that application. the connection string is perfectly identical but it wont works the new application.   • Where does lucene .net cache the search results?

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out where Lucene stores the cached query results, and how it's configured to do so - and how long it caches for. This is for an ASP.NET 3.5 solution. I'm getting this problem: If I run a search and sort the result by a particular product field, it seems to work the very first time each search and sort combination is used. If I then go in and change some product attributes, reindex and run the same search and sort, I get the products returned in the same order as the very first result. example Product A is named: foo Product B is named: bar For the first search, sort by name desc. This results in: Product A Product B Now mix up the data a bit: Change names to: Product A named: bar Product B named: foo reindex verify that the index contains the changes for these two products. search Result: Product A Product B Since I changed the alphabetical order of the names, I expected: Product B Product A So I think that Lucene is caching the search results. (Which, btw, is a very good thing.) I just need to know where/how to clear these results. I've tried deleting the index files and doing an IISreset to clear the memory, but it seems to have no effect. So I'm thinking there is another set of Lucene files outside of the indexes that Lucene uses for caching. EDIT I just found out that you must create the index for field you wish to sort on as un-tokenized. I had the field as tokenized, so sorting didn't work.

    Hello, I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to launch an intent within an ExpandableListView. Basically one of the "Groups" is Phone Number and it's child is the number.     Hi, Something weird has started happening to my project with Dynamic Data. Suddenly I am now getting connection errors when going to the DD navigation pages, but things work fine on the default DD main page, and also other MVC pages I've added in myself work fine to the database. Any ideas?
