• Convert CString to string (VC6)

- by Yan Cheng CHEOK
I want to convert CString to string. (Yup. I know what am I doing. I know the returned string will be incorrect, if CString value range is outside ANSI, but That's Is OK!) The following code will work under VC2008. std::string Utils::CString2String(const CString& cString) { // Convert a TCHAR string to a LPCSTR CT2CA pszConvertedAnsiString (cString); // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input std::string strStd (pszConvertedAnsiString); return strStd; } But VC6 doesn't have CT2CA macro. How I can make the code to work as well in both VC6 and VC2008?

• Using a c# .net object in an Excel VBA form

- by Mark O'G
Hi I have a .net object that I want to use in Excel. I have an existing VBA script that i need to alter to call this the object from. I have then converted the object to a TLB. I've not really touched on this area before so any help will be appreciated. I have created an interface [Guid("0F700B48-E0CA-446b-B87E-555BCC317D74"),InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsDual)] public interface IOfficeCOMInterface { [DispId(1)] void ResetOrder(); [DispId(2)] void SetDeliveryAddress(string PostalName, string AddressLine1, string AddressLine2, string AddressLine3, string AddressLine4, string PostCode, string CountryCode, string TelephoneNo, string FaxNo, string EmailAddress); } I have also created an class that inherits that object. [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None), ProgId("NAMESPACE.OfficeCOMInterface"), Guid("9D9723F9-8CF1-4834-BE69-C3FEAAAAB530"), ComVisible(true)] public class OfficeCOMInterface : IOfficeCOMInterface, IDisposable { public void ResetSOPOrder() { } public void SetDeliveryAddress(string PostalName, string AddressLine1, string AddressLine2, string AddressLine3, string AddressLine4, string PostCode, string CountryCode, string TelephoneNo, string FaxNo, string EmailAddress) { try { SalesOrder.AmendDeliveryAddress(PostalName, AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressLine3, AddressLine4, PostCode); MessageBox.Show("Delivery address set"); } catch (Exception ex) { throw ex; } } }

• Add References with Search

- by Daniel Cazzulino
If you have been using VS2010 for any significant amount of time, you surely came across the awkward, slow and hard to use Add Reference dialog. Despite some (apparent) improvements over the VS2008 behavior, in its current form it's even LESS usable than before. A brief non-exhaustive summary of the typical grief with this dialog is: Scrolling a list of *hundreds* of entries? (300+ typically) No partial matching when typing: yes, you can type in the list to get to the desired entry, but the matching is performed in an exact manner, from the beginning of the assembly name. So, to get to the (say) "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Settings" assembly, you actually have to type the first two segments in their entirety before starting to type "Settings"....Read full article

• How to combine 2 or more querysets in a Django view?

- by Espen Christensen
Hi, I am trying to build the search for a Django site I am building, and in the search I am searching in 3 different models. And to get pagination on the search result list I would like to use a generic object_list view to display the results. But to do that i have to merge 3 querysets into one. How can i do that? Ive tried this: result_list = [] page_list = Page.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) article_list = Article.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(tags__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) post_list = Post.objects.filter(Q(title__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(body__icontains=cleaned_search_term) | Q(tags__icontains=cleaned_search_term)) for x in page_list: result_list.append(x) for x in article_list: result_list.append(x) for x in post_list: result_list.append(x) return object_list(request, queryset=result_list, template_object_name='result', paginate_by=10, extra_context={'search_term': search_term}, template_name="search/result_list.html") But this doesnt work I get an error when i try to use that list in the generic view. The list is missing the clone attribute. Anybody know how i can merge the three lists, page_list, article_list and post_list?

• Python: Elegant way to check if at least one regex in list matches a string

- by houbysoft
Hi. I have a list of regexes in python, and a string. Is there an elegant way to check if the at least one regex in the list matches the string? By elegant, I mean something better than simply looping through all of the regexes and checking them against the string and stopping if a match is found. Basically, I had this code: list = ['something','another','thing','hello'] string = 'hi' if string in list: pass # do something else: pass # do something else Now I would like to have some regular expressions in the list, rather than just strings, and I am wondering if there is an elegant solution to check for a match to replace if string in list:. Thanks in advance.

This error message is relatively straight forward. The way it normally happens is when you are trying to insert data from a table that contains values that have larger data lengths than the table you are trying to insert into. An example of this would be trying to insert data from a permanent table, into [...]

• How Do Search Engines Rank Combined Keywords?

- by Itai
Suppose: A site that ranks very well (1st result) for something like 'best blue widget'. It also ranks very well (1st page) for 'blue widget'. It ranks not so well (2nd page) for 'widget'. Obviously, the number of monthly searches are much higher for 'widget' than for 'blue widget', which is still higher than for 'best blue widget'. Now the actual question: When creating new external links, how does each of the following anchor texts affect SEO for of these searches? widget blue widget best blue widget [HINT: The answer should be a 3x3 table] [NOTE: Assume the site is relevant for all these keyword combination]

• A Skill Testing (Search Engine) Calculation

- by Ken Cox [MVP]
To claim a contest prize, I had to answer the following skill-testing question: 1000 - 50 / 2 x 10 Okay, it’s not a problem as long as you know about operator precedence. As a developer, my brain automatically supplied brackets. I was curious as to whether this exact skill-testing question is commonly-used in online contests, so I Googled the formula. To my amazement, Google returned the result of the calculation – complete with brackets: 1 000 - ((50 / 2) x 10) = 750 (Google) Bing also has a calculator...(read more)

• Convert byte array to understandable String

- by Ender
I have a program that handles byte arrays in Java, and now I would like to write this into a XML file. However, I am unsure as to how I can convert the following byte array into a sensible String to write to a file. Assuming that it was Unicode characters I attempted the following code: String temp = new String(encodedBytes, "UTF-8"); Only to have the debugger show that the encodedBytes contain " ^-m/ufffd IA". The String should contain a hash in alphanumerical format. How would I turn the above String into a sensible String for output?

• Why is my searchable activity's Intent.getAction() null?

- by originalbryan
I've followed the SearchManager documentation yet am still having trouble making one of my app's activities searchable. From my activity, the SearchDialog appears, I enter a query, hit search, my activity reopens, then I see this in the log: D/SearchDialog( 584): launching Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEARCH flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } I/SearchDialog( 584): Starting (as ourselves) #Intent;action=android.intent.action.SEARCH;launchFlags=0x10000000;component=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints;S.user_query=sdaf;S.query=sdaf;end I/ActivityManager( 584): Starting activity: Intent { act=android.intent.action.SEARCH flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI Intent { cmp=com.clinkybot.geodroid2/.views.Waypoints (has extras) } D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI null D/WAYPOINTS( 1018): NI false It appears to me that everything is fine up until the last three lines. The "NI" lines are getIntent().toString(), getIntent().getAction(), and getIntent().hasExtra(SearchManager.QUERY) respectively. ActivityManager appears to be starting my activity with the correct action. Then when my activity starts, it contains no action!? What am I doing wrong? The relevant portion of my manifest is: <activity android:name=".views.Waypoints" android:label="Waypoints" android:launchMode="singleTop"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.SEARCH" />
</intent-filter> <meta-data android:name="android.app.searchable" android:resource="@xml/searchable" /> </activity>

• Combine Search Bar and URL Bar into One (WebView)

- by Jay Bush
So I'm in the midst of updating my Web Browser app for iOS devices, from the ground up, and I'm trying to implement some more convenient features. One feature that seems to be really popular now, that I have been getting a lot of requests for, is the combination of a Google Search bar and a URL bar in one, like that of the Chrome application. Below is a screenshot of the Google Chrome app, and as you can see, they've made it so you can either enter in a search query like "apple ipad" and it will return a Google search page of 'Apple iPad', or you can enter in a URL "http://apple.com/ipad/" and it will load that URL. I have looked all over the internet, but all I could find were tutorials on how to Search Google with value of the UITextField. I have a feeling that the best way to do this is to probably make a 'check'. Like if the entered value contains 'http://' 'www.' '.com' or no spaces, then load it as a URL, if not then load it in a Google Search page, and then have the webview load up the Google Search page. If anybody could show me to the right direction, that would be great, or even supplying me with some code would be even greater. :) Thanks! If anyone needs part of the code, just ask.

• Windows 7 Slow Searching

- by Guy Thomas
I have a new Windows 7 machine with twice as much RAM and a faster processor than my old Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine. I am disappointed that searching amongst my 10,000 image files takes twice as long on my new Windows 7 machine. Both machines have their own copy of these same files. In other respects e.g. opening my huge Outlook files, the new machine is faster. The Windows Search Service has started. And I set indexing on the image folder about 3 days ago. Any ideas why I suffer from this poor index / search experience? Other than adding / removing folders, is there anything I can do to tweak indexing?
