• Do you have to use zf tool when creating controller, model, action etc... in zend framework

  I am using zend framework 1.10. I use the zf tool to create controllers, actions and everything else. It is handy, but I am now seeing that when it modifies existing controller files to add new actions it realigns my code and removes some function closing brackets. I then see all these errors in eclipse. I see that everytime i issue a zf command it modifies the .zfproject file. Is this file critical at all? I want to be able to create whatever I want by myself without the zf tool and worrying about that .zfproject file.

• Understanding flow of object creation

  I'm new to java and I wonder if there is simple way to know flow like the following of object creation, I'm using eclipse and when I write new ObjectInputStream and press CTRL+SPACE. I don't see any option that I can enter new BufferedInputStream (I have copied the code from example) and than to create new object for FileInputStream etc. in = new ObjectInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("emp.dat"))); List temp = (List)in.readObject(); I give that example since this is the first time that I saw this kind of creation new object flow and I want to use some best practice for the next times.

• Maven + Java package declaration

  We have a Maven project (packaged as JAR) with Java files. A new Java source file was recently added to this project. The path in which the Java file was added, does not match its package declaration. As expected, Eclipse shows an error in the class for the mismatch. However, Maven builds the project just fine. In the generated JAR file, the .class file is present in the path indicated by the package declaration. We tried moving the Java source file to other incorrect folders (i.e. different from the package declaration), but every time Maven builds the project fine. So, does Maven ignore the actual directory in which the .java file is present? Does it only consider package declaration?

  Hi every one, I have really a problem that I don't know how to deal with it. I am using JSP and Servlet with the Eclipse IDE. First of all, the user fill an html table with the values that he has selected and written in the form. after that he will find his parameters displayed in the html table. the problem now is : the table contains in each row an edit button when clicking on it; the user should have the form automatically filled with values"previously selected" of the row. so it's how to reload the form with variables from html table. Note : I construct the table with a servlet. Please help.

• Getting automatic matching brace in vim

  I spend WAY to much time fumbling around because vim doesn't handle closing braces like most IDEs do. Here's what I want to happen: type this: if( whatever ) { <CR> where <CR> mean hit the enter key and get this: if( whatever ) { | } where | is the position of the cursor. It's what Eclipse does. It's what Visual Studio does. And it's what I want Vim to do. I've seen a few plugins, tried a few, and none of them seem to give me this behavior. Surely I can't be the first programmer to want this.

• Python: How to quit CLI when stuck in blocking raw_input?

  I have a GUI program which should also be controllable via CLI (for monitoring). The CLI is implemented in a while loop using raw_input. If I quit the program via a GUI close button, it hangs in raw_input and does not quit until it gets an input. How can I immediately abort raw_input without entering an input? I run it on WinXP but I want it to be platform independent, it should also work within Eclipse since it is a developer tool. Python version is 2.6. I searched stackoverflow for hours and I know there are many answers to that topic, but is there really no platform independent solution to have a non-blocking CLI reader? If not, what would be the best way to overcome this problem? Thanks

• Run .exe packaged in .jar

  I am trying to merge 2 programs I have made to one .jar file. One program is a .jar written in java and the second one is an .exe written in c++. I put both files to the new .jar, wrote this code but it didn't work. When this code was exported to .jar and executed neither of 2 files ran and I got error "no main manifest attribute, in merged.jar" in cmd. Though it worked perfectly when run in eclipse. public class main { public static void main(String[] args) { try { Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c project1.jar"); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c project2.exe"); } catch(Exception exce) { /*handle exception*/ } } } Any idea how to fix this or is there another way to do it? I am new to java, so can't think of anything good. Maybe it would be possible to drop these files to a temporary location in windows and delete them after they're executed?

  We have a php project that we would like to version control. Right now there are three of us working on a "Dev" version of the project that all have our Eclipse linked to it with just an external folder, and thus no version control. What is the right way, and what is the best way, to version control this (not necessarily the same I dont think) We have a SVN set up but just need to find a good way to check in and check out that lets us test on the dev server. Any ideas?

• Deploy Java application on MacOSX (from a Windows system)

  Hello, Here's the deal. I'm just starting with Java programming, I've made a simple application that uses SWT graphic library and I want to deploy it on a Mac (running the latest version of MacOS X). I did all the programming in my Windows 7 machine, so here are my questions: Q1) Can I make an executable file for MacOS X from my Windows machine? How? (I saw that it's possible to create .exe files on Windows, instead of using .jar; I want to do the same for the Mac, of course it won't be an .exe) Q2) If I export my project in Eclipse and I choose Runnable JAR File and then on Library Handling I pick Extract required libraries into generated JAR or Package required libraries into generated JAR I end up with a huge .JAR (about 15MB of size, my application consist in just a button on a Window and a tiny method that doesn't do much). • Beginner servlet question: accessing files in a .war, which path?

  When a third-party library I'm using tries to access a file, I'm getting "Error opening ... file ... (No such file or directory)" even though I KNOW the file is in the WAR. I've tried both packaged (.war) and "exploded" (directory) deployment, and the file is definitely there. I've tried setting full permissions on it too. It's on Unix (Ubuntu). File is war/dict/index.sense and the error is "dict/index.sense (No such file or directory)". It works fine on my Windows computer when running in hosted mode as a GWT app from Eclipse, just not when I transfer it to the Unix machine for deployment. My question is: has anybody experienced this before and/or are there differences in relative path that I should consider i.e. what's the root path for relative file access in a war?

• Jetty: Mount to a directory on a different host

  I'm looking to map to a directory on a different host using Jetty/Maven when working locally. I've found you can do this w/ Apache using mod_jk (JkMount/JkUnMount), but haven't figured it how to do the same on jetty. On our dev/q/live servers, we have Apache in front of JBoss and use mod_jk to do this. Locally, we're using jetty To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how you would configure Apache to accomplish this: in httpd.conf: JkMount /images/* host2 JkMount /* host2 JkUnMount /images/* host1 workers.properties: worker.list=host2,host1 worker.host2.host=host-2.theDomain.com worker.host2.port=46654 worker.host1.host=host-1.theDomain.com worker.host1.port=46655 Is there a way to configure Jetty to do the same thing? • Android Apps wont update.

  Hello, i know that eclipse has a couple of glitches when it comes to updating your app and running it on the emulator, i have tried everything that i have found on the internet. Stopping the adb manually making a new emulator and starting it with "wipe user data" and restarting it even reinstalling all of the programs. What i have noticed is that it updates correctly until i start adding images to the drawable folder. After that it doesn't update at all. Can anybody help me its really frustrating also the pictures show up on the "graphic layout how they are suppose to it just doesn't update.

  I'm pretty new to Java and SWT, hoping to have one image dissolve into the next. I have one image now in a Label (relevant code): Device dev = shell.getDisplay(); try { Image photo = new Image(dev, "photo.jpg"); } catch(Exception e) { } Label label = new Label(shell, SWT.IMAGE_JPEG); label.setImage(photo); Now I'd like photo to fade into a different image at a speed that I specify. Is this possible as set up here, or do I need to delve more into the org.eclipse.swt.graphics api? Also, this will be a slide show that may contain hundreds of photos, only ever moving forward (never back to a previous image)---considering this, is there something I explicitly need to do in order to remove the old images from memory?   Is there a command to tell compiz that we want to bring in front and set focus to a specific window? How should we identify the window in that command? The reason behind this question is the following use-case: Suppose we have a wiki to keep notes of anything interesting we find out. It would be very convenient to have a keyboard shortcut to bring the browser window with our Wiki page in front and start typing immediately then with another key combination switch to the application we were working before I know that "ALT+TAB" switches between the last two used windows but cannot support more complex combinations of applications. • calling a service layer method to my presentation layer

  Ok I feel really dumb asking this but I seem to be missing something really simple here. I have the following code in a class in my service layer - public Items getItems(String category, float amount, String color, String type) The code reads from a database and returns the results - I plan on placing it in a jframe. Nice and simple. But no matter how I call it from the jframe I get errors in eclipse that the code is wrong - either that their are illegal modifiers or such. So obviously I am calling it completely wrong, so my stupid question is how do you call that method into a jframe? For example - if I try to call it this way: public Items getItems(); I get told that getItems is an illegal parameter. If I call this.. Items getItems(); I am told its undefined

• Making application menus on top of gnome shell

  Is there a way to put gnome shell components (panel, message tray) to be appear below the popup menu's of other applications such as Java and Gtk Apps. The problem is when there are gtk apps which has tray icons the popup menu tends to appear below the message tray, this was bit ok now in 3.6 because the message tray hides soon as the icon is clicked. But the top bar is still a problem for large menus. When running eclipse with lot of options in the context menu the top most items including the scroll button are under top bar. Is there any thing i can change in the main.js or panel.js to get things below the popup menus ?

• Aptana Open Resource Key Binding

  The default keyboard shortcut for open resource in Eclipse is Ctrl+Shift+R. It is also the case in Aptana, but there also seems to be a conflicting key since when clicked it brings up a context menu with 2 options "Run" and "Open Resource". How to I avoid having this context menu pop up? I tried to go to the preferences and look for conflicting key-bindings but I could not find it. I am also not sure what "Run" command is actually bound (I tried searching based on the key combination, that did not seem to have worked).

• After upgrading to 2.6.35-24 kernel, why does adb no longer list devices?

  When I first installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, I was able to see a physical Android device (connected via USB) in the Android Device Chooser (launched from Eclipse). But, after upgrading my kernel from 2.6.35-22-generic to 2.6.35-24-generic, no devices are listed any more, and I am unable to see any results when running adb devices like so: $ ./adb devices List of devices attached $ I have tried booting in the previous kernel version, but I get some udev error, so I was hoping I could get it working with the newer kernel version. I figured SO was the best place for this question, as it seems more developer related.

I tried to copy the source/res and menifest file of Android application form linux and started creating a new project on windows. I tried to replace the source/res and menifest of newly created Project on windows with one on linux. It was unable to generate R.java file.   Hello, I would like Dreamweaver to show me the opening/closing tag when I select a tag. This functionality is seen in many editors, I know for sure Eclipse has it. To make things clearer: When I select/highlight a opening tag with my mouse I would like Dreamweaver to select/highlight the closing tag. • How do I inherit abstract unit tests in Ruby?

  I have two unit tests that should share a lot of common tests with slightly different setup methods. If I write something like class Abstract < Test::Unit::TestCase def setup @field = create end def test_1 ... end end class Concrete1 < Abstract def create SomeClass1.new end end class Concrete2 < Abstract def create SomeClass2.new end end then Concrete1 does not seem to inherit the tests from Abstract. Or at least I cannot get them to run in eclipse. If I choose "Run all TestCases" for the file that contains Concrete1 then Abstract is run even though I do not want it to be. If I specify Concrete1 then it does not run any tests at all! If I specify test_1 in Concrete1 then it complains it cannot find it ("uncaught throw :invalid_test (ArgumentError)"). I'm new to Ruby. What am I missing here?

  So I've written my first Android app, ... and want to be able to provide both free and paid versions. I wrote and compiled it in Eclipse on Windows. I'm wondering if it is possible, and how I would go about doing so, to have separate compile jobs somehow, so that I can maintain my free and paid versions from one set of source code, and just leave out certain bits for the paid version, but keep the main source the same. What are the recommended ways/best practices for devving a paid and free version of the same app from one set of source? Is it even possible?
