• How to call a generic method with an anonymous type involving generics?

  I've got this code that works: def testTypeSpecialization = { class Foo[T] def add[T](obj: Foo[T]): Foo[T] = obj def addInt[X <% Foo[Int]](obj: X): X = { add(obj) obj } val foo = addInt(new Foo[Int] { def someMethod: String = "Hello world" }) assert(true) } But, I'd like to write it like this: def testTypeSpecialization = { class Foo[T] def add[X, T <% Foo[X](obj: T): T = obj val foo = add(new Foo[Int] { def someMethod: String = "Hello world" }) assert(true) } This second one fails to compile: no implicit argument matching parameter type (Foo[Int]{ ... }) = Foo[Nothing] was found. Basically: I'd like to create a new anonymous class/instance on the fly (e.g. new Foo[Int] { ... } ), and pass it into an "add" method which will add it to a list, and then return it The key thing here is that the variable from "val foo = " I'd like its type to be the anonymous class, not Foo[Int], since it adds methods (someMethod in this example) Any ideas? I think the 2nd one fails because the type Int is being erased. • UIButton title disappears on touch

  I want a touchable UILabel, but since that's not possible I decided to create a UIButton of type UIButtonTypeCustom. It looks how I want it to look, but when I touch it, the title disappears. I tried setting the title for state UIControlStateHighlighted but that didn't help. I know I'm doing something really silly here, but can't figure it out. I tried a few things (commented in the code below) which didn't seem to help. • Event Dispatching, void pointer and alternatives

  i have my event dispatching / handling functionality working fine, but there is one issue that i need to resolve. Long story short, here are the details. // The event structure struct tEventMessage { // Type of the event int Type; // (void*) Allows those to be casted into per-Type objects void *pArgument1; void *pArgument2; }; I am sending events from different modules in my engine by using the above structure, which requires a pointer to an argument. All messages are queued, and then dispatched on the next ::Tick(). It works fine, untill i try to send something that doesn't exist in next ::Tick, for example: When a mouse click is being handled, it calculates the click coordinates in world space. This is being sent with a pointer to a vector representing that position, but after my program quits that method, this pointer gets invalid obviously, cause local CVector3 is destructed: CVector2 vScreenSpacePosition = vAt; CVector3 v3DPositionA = CVector3(0,0,0); CVector3 v3DPositionB = CVector3(0,0,0); // Screen space to World space calculation for depth zNear v3DPositionA = CMath::UnProject(vScreenSpacePosition, m_vScreenSize, m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getViewMatrix(), m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getProjectionMatrix(), -1.0 ); // Screen space to World space calculation for depth zFar v3DPositionB = CMath::UnProject(vScreenSpacePosition, m_vScreenSize, m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getViewMatrix(), m_Level.GetCurrentCamera()->getProjectionMatrix(), 1.0); // Send zFar position and ScreenSpace position to the handlers // Obviously both vectors won't be valid after this method quits.. • Google Doclist API : bug in revision history?

  I'm trying to manage revisions of files (not documents) stored in google docs programatically using gdata document list java library v3. I can create files and revisions using this tool : I can see them in the web UI. The thing is : the content of my revisions seems wrong. Here is my test protocol : I create a plain text file with "Hello World" in it. I upload it to gdocs without converting it. I create a revision of this file, its content changing to "Content of the second version" I create another revision, its content is now "Content of the third version" At each step, I check the content of each revision, using my app AND using the web UI. Here is what I get : First step : no problem i see one version containing the "Hello world" text Second step : no problem either, i see 2 versions, containing Hello World for the first one and Content of the second version for the second. Third step : here the problems comes. I see my 3 versions, but only the third and last seems to be correct. when i download the second version, the content is "Content of the second versio" (not a typo, it misses the 'n'). And i cannot even download the initial version, it seems to timeout. Important thing : I did not have this problem three weeks ago, my revision management worked well. I have no idea of what happens there, except it seems to be server-related, as the problem is seen either with my app or the google native webapp. Last thing : I tried using the google drive API as gdocs had been merged with drive. When i request revisions of my file, the API returns me an error saying that revisions are not supported for files, even if i can see them in the UI. I tried on converted documents, it worked. I'm looking for a workaround for this problem. Has anyone ever encountered such a problem ? Thanks in advance, Jérôme

• Forcing size of a complex Flash object.

  As I've found recently, setting width/height properties on a Sprite only forces the Sprite to fit the given dimensions by scaling the actual size, which is calculated by Flash based on the rendered content. This leaves me confused. If I have a custom Sprite subclass which draws using Graphics, how can I do layout before an initial render - the size will be zero until it is first drawn? For a more complex issue, let's say I have a 2D game world with objects spread over a wide area with world coordinates from (0,0) to (5000,5000), where each object has a size of maybe up to 100x100. I want to have a Flash component which is the "game window", and has a fixed size like 400x300, rendering part of the game world. So how do I force the game window size to 400x300 pixels? I can draw a 400x300 rectangle to get the size correct but then if I draw any objects which are partly in-view, they can screw this up. Is the right approach to provide a custom setSize(w,h) method which is used rather than width & height setters? But even so, is there no way to make a Sprite force to the size I want? Do you really have to catch it every render and re-scale it?

• PHP PDO Parameters from a function returned array

  I've got a function written that runs a query based on parameters passed to the function. I can't seem to figure out why doing the following returns a result: function test($function_returned_array) { $variable = 'Hello World'; $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $variable); } While this doesn't return any results: function test2($function_returned_array) { $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $function_returned_array[0]); } $function_returned_array[0] is also equal to 'Hello World'. Shouldn't they both return the same results? • Cannot SSH after resetting firewall on VPS

  I'm having trouble trying to SSH to my Debian 5 VPS with blacknight. It was working fine until I did the following: Logged into 'Parallels Infrastructure Manager' - Container - Firewall - Set to 'Normal Firewall settings'. It told me there was an error with the IPTables and offered the option again with a checkbox to 'reset' firewall settings, I selected this. I can see that that the default rules are been applied ( anything from anyone on any port and allowing anything to happen).   Hi, I need help to figure the regex expression I have string = "STATE changed from [Fixed] to [Closed], CLOSED DATE added [Fri Jan 14 09:32:19 MST 2011], NOTES changed from [CLOSED[]<br />] to [TEST CLOSED <br />]" I need to grab NOTES changed from [CLOSED[]<br />] to [TEST CLOSED <br />] and take values CLOSED[] and TEST CLOSED in two string variables. So far I got to: Regex NotesChanged = new Regex(@"NOTES changed from \[(\w*|\W*)\] to \[([\w-|\W-]*)\]"); which matches only if "NOTES changed from" started at the beginning and has no '[]' within '[ ]', but I have "[CLOSED[]]" and also no "". Would it be practical to create a full Silverlight web application these days? I plan to deploy the website sometime around Q1 2011. I have thought about going ASP.NET + AJAX way, but it just won't give me the same rich features as Silverlight. A lot of people when they hear ASP.NET or Silverlight instantly think about business or enterprise applications. But all I want to create is a fansite, with rich user interface and a great "WOW" factor.

• Signature invalid only for ad hoc

  I'm not sure what changed on my ad hocs but I get this error when trying to install: Application failed codesign verification. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate. (-19011) Device debug builds fine. The cert that is associated with my ad hoc provisioning profile doesn't expire until 2011. I've searched Google but haven't found any applicable solution, except some mention about deleting and recreating the certs. Before I go down that rode, has any one experienced and resolved this issue? I'm using Xcode 3.2.3 and building against sdk 3.0.

  I have a jquery Image slider in a content page that worked fine. Once I converted it into a asp repeater the first image of the repeater would display twice, then run normally. Any idea on why the repeater is causing this? • Monotouch Binding to Linea Pro SDK

  I'm trying to create a binding to the Linea Pro (it's the barcode scanner they use in the Apple Stores, Lowes) SDK. I'm using David Sandor's bindings as a reference, but the SDK has been updated a few times since January of 2011. I have most everything working, except for the playSound call, which is used to, well, play a sound on the Linea Pro device. The .h file from the SDK has the call as follows: -(BOOL)playSound:(int)volume beepData:(int *)data length:(int)length error:(NSError **)error; I've tried using int[], NSArray, and an IntPtr to the int[], but nothing seems to work. The last unsuccessful iteration of my binding looks like: [Export ("playSound:beepData:length:")] void PlaySound (int volume, NSArray data, int length); Now, this doesn't work at all. Also note that I have no idea what to do with the error:(NSError **)error part, either. I am lacking some serious familiarity with C, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

I generate a data set called @orders_yearly in my controller and in my view I have the following to try and render the graph: <%= content_tag :div, "", id: "orders_chart", data: {orders: @orders_yearly} %> Calling @orders_yearly.inspect shows it's just a simple hash: {2009=>1000, 2010=>2000, 2011=>4000, 2012=>100000} I'll need to modify the values for xkey and ykeys in coffeescript to work, but I'm not sure how to make it work with my data set: jQuery -> Morris.Line element: 'orders_chart' data: $('#orders_chart').data('orders') xkey: 'purchased_at' # <------------------ replace with what? ykeys: ['price'] # <---------------------- replace with what? labels: ['Price'] Anyone have any ideas?   hi! I have a little problem with an upload-form within an other form (call it data-form). I know it is not possible to put a form into an other. So I would need to put it after my data-form. But I need the upload-form controls in the middle of my data-form because of optical and structural reasons. The file-upload should also perform other actions and not the same than the data-form. So any idea how can I make the upload-form after my data-form but visible in it or any other ideas to handle this? I am using javascirpt and php also. thanks and best wishes for 2011! br,chris

• Current state of client-side XSLT

  Last I heard, Blizzard was one of the few companies to put client-side XSLT into practice (2008). Is this still the case in 2011, or are more people now exploring this technique in production?  It seems that modern browsers (IE9, FF4, Chrome) and client processing power are primed to exploit this standard for tangible savings in server CPU power and bandwidth on large scale properties. Am I missing something? The negative aspects I'm aware of include * additional rendering time * additional assets required on uncached page load * additional layer of complexity * noticably less developer experience than server-side template techniques The benefits I perceive include * distributed template composition (offloaded on the client) * caching of common template fragments offloaded on the client * logical separation of document structure and data * well-documented web standard supported by all modern browsers Finally, although I know it's impossible to predict the future, I am curious to know opinions on whether or not client-side XSLT's day will come. With interest in HTML5 driving users to upgrade their browsers and developers to explore new techniques, I would say yes. How about you? Thanks in advance, Casey

  In my app, i want to fetch all videos of logged in user i.e. videos that are uploaded by user, videos share by user, user tagged in etc. Currently im using "stream" query as: SELECT created_time, post_id, actor_id, type, updated_time, attachment FROM stream WHERE created_time>1075593600 AND type IN (56, 80, 128, 237, 272) AND source_id=me() limit 10000 As you can see i use "type IN" to fetch required videos but this query is not fetching all videos of mine . I have two videos in 2011 one of which is uploaded and other one is shared.But i m not getting these two. Also in developer.facebook it was written that "Each query of the stream table is limited to the previous 30 days or 50 posts, whichever is greater, however you can use time-specific fields such as created_time along with FQL operators (such as < or ) to retrieve a much greater range of posts." So i tried "created time0" i.e.(1970) and other like timestamp of 2001 but still i m not getting all. Please help..its urgent.Thanks
