  • VBScript - image to binary

    Hi to all, i'm not a VB programmer but i need a vbscript that convert image file (from local disk) to be converted to binary data and the passed to webservice. I realize how to pass data to webservice but i can't find how to convert the image file to binary data. I spend a lot of time to find some kind of solution but with no luck. Can somebody help me?   • Do you gain any operations when you constrain a generic type using where T : struct?

    This may be a bit of an abstract question, so apologies in advance. I am looking into generics in .NET, and was wondering about the where T : struct constraint. I understand that this allows you to restrict the type used to be a value type. My question is, without any type constraint, you can do a limited number of operations on T. Do you gain the ability to use any additional operations when you specify where T : struct, or is the only value in restricting the types you can pass in?

    I thought java.math.BigDecimal is supposed to be The Answer™ to the need of performing infinite precision arithmetic with decimal numbers. Consider the following snippet: import java.math.BigDecimal; //... final BigDecimal one = BigDecimal.ONE; final BigDecimal three = BigDecimal.valueOf(3); final BigDecimal third = one.divide(three); assert third.multiply(three).equals(one); // this should pass, right? I expect the assert to pass, but in fact the execution doesn't even get there: one.divide(three) causes ArithmeticException to be thrown! Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArithmeticException: Non-terminating decimal expansion; no exact representable decimal result. at java.math.BigDecimal.divide It turns out that this behavior is explicitly documented in the API: In the case of divide, the exact quotient could have an infinitely long decimal expansion; for example, 1 divided by 3. If the quotient has a non-terminating decimal expansion and the operation is specified to return an exact result, an ArithmeticException is thrown. Otherwise, the exact result of the division is returned, as done for other operations. Browsing around the API further, one finds that in fact there are various overloads of divide that performs inexact division, i.e.: final BigDecimal third = one.divide(three, 33, RoundingMode.DOWN); System.out.println(three.multiply(third)); // prints "0.999999999999999999999999999999999" Of course, the obvious question now is "What's the point???". I thought BigDecimal is the solution when we need exact arithmetic, e.g. for financial calculations. If we can't even divide exactly, then how useful can this be? Does it actually serve a general purpose, or is it only useful in a very niche application where you fortunately just don't need to divide at all? If this is not the right answer, what CAN we use for exact division in financial calculation? (I mean, I don't have a finance major, but they still use division, right???).

  • Passing JSP parameter to javascript won't work in IE8!

    Could really use with some help here... I've got a servlet that generates an XML string (relatively long) which I then pass to a javascript variable in a forwarded jsp file: $(document).ready(function() { ... var itXML = <% out.print((String)request.getAttribute("xml"));% ; ... } This seems to work just fine in Firefox but when I run the same project on IE8 I get a syntax error for this line. Any Ideas? Thanks!

  • Very basic question about Hadoop and compressed input files

    I have started to look into Hadoop. If my understanding is right i could process a very big file and it would get split over different nodes, however if the file is compressed then the file could not be split and wold need to be processed by a single node (effectively destroying the advantage of running a mapreduce ver a cluster of parallel machines). My question is, assuming the above is correct, is it possible to split a large file manually in fixed-size chunks, or daily chunks, compress them and then pass a list of compressed input files to perform a mapreduce?

    How do I pass the identity of the logged on user in an a webapplication to a service beeing called by the webserver? My idea her is to set som kind of EndpointIdentity on the cahnnel. In my case this will be an GUID identifing the user's session on the webserver. Anyone got any exprience on this.. Maybe I have misunderstood the concept? Any idea's or links would be apriciated.

  • Constructor Injection and when to use a Service Locator

    I'm struggling to understand parts of StructureMap's usage. In particular, in the documentation a statement is made regarding a common anti-pattern, the use of StructureMap as a Service Locator only instead of constructor injection (code samples straight from Structuremap documentation): public ShippingScreenPresenter() { _service = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IShippingService>(); _repository = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IRepository>(); } instead of: public ShippingScreenPresenter(IShippingService service, IRepository repository) { _service = service; _repository = repository; } This is fine for a very short object graph, but when dealing with objects many levels deep, does this imply that you should pass down all the dependencies required by the deeper objects right from the top? Surely this breaks encapsulation and exposes too much information about the implementation of deeper objects. Let's say I'm using the Active Record pattern, so my record needs access to a data repository to be able to save and load itself. If this record is loaded inside an object, does that object call ObjectFactory.CreateInstance() and pass it into the active record's constructor? What if that object is inside another object. Does it take the IRepository in as its own parameter from further up? That would expose to the parent object the fact that we're access the data repository at this point, something the outer object probably shouldn't know. public class OuterClass { public OuterClass(IRepository repository) { // Why should I know that ThingThatNeedsRecord needs a repository? // that smells like exposed implementation to me, especially since // ThingThatNeedsRecord doesn't use the repo itself, but passes it // to the record. // Also where do I create repository?     What do I pass as the first parameter "object" to the function setattr(object, name, value), to set variables on the current module? For example: setattr(object, "SOME_CONSTANT", 42); giving the same effect as: SOME_CONSTANT = 42 within the module containing these lines (with the correct object). I'm generate several values at the module level dynamically, and as I can't define __getattr__ at the module level, this is my fallback.

    I'm not sure I explained it correctly in the question title, so here's the details: Login controller: function authenticate() { if ( authorized ) { redirect('lobby'); } else { redirect('login'); } } Lobby controller: function index() { //load lobby view } What happens is that in the login page, I enter user / pass, click Login, then authenticate() is called, and redirects me to the Lobby. However, when I click refresh while on the Lobby, the login form gets submitted again, so I get "logged in" again. How do I prevent that from happening?

    How do you encode a javascript object/hash (pairs of properties and values) into a URL-encoded query string with YUI (2.7.0 or 3.0.0 Beta) ? I want to do the equivalent of Object.toQueryString() from Prototype: I need this to encode parameters for GET and POST requests with YAHOO.util.Connect. It turns out YAHOO.util.Connect has a setForm() method to serialize a form but that still leaves me out cold to encode parameters for GET requests, or the 4th parameter of YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest() to pass post data.

  • Animation using AniMate with Unity3D doesn't interact with physical objects

    I'm designing a maze with Unity3D. The maze has a number of bifurcations and the player will stop before each bifurcation and simply choose left or right. Then an automatic animation will move the player through the next bifurcation till the end of the maze (or till a dead end). To animate the player I'm using AniMate and C# in my Unity project. Using AniMate I'm simply creating a point-to-point animation for each bifurcation (e.g. mage below: from the start/red arrow to point 5) My problem is that my animation script (associated to the "First Person Controller") is not working properly since physics is not respected (the player passes through walls). If in the same project I enable the standard character controls in Unity, then I can navigate in the maze with the physical contrains of walls etc... (i.e. I have colliders). This is an example of the code I'm using when I press left to pass from starting point, trough point 1 to point 2: void FixedUpdate () { if (Input.GetKey(KeyCode.LeftArrow)) { //To point 1 Hashtable props = new Hashtable(); props.Add("position", new Vector3(756f,112f,1124f)); props.Add("physics", true); Ani.Mate.To(transform, 2, props); //To point 2 Hashtable props2 = new Hashtable(); props2.Add("position", new Vector3(731f,112f,1124f)); props2.Add("physics", true); Ani.Mate.To(transform, 2, props2); } } What happens practically when I press the left arrow button is that the player moves directly to point 2 using a straight line passing through the wall. I tried to pass to AniMate "Physics = true" but it doesn't seem to help. Any idea on how to solve this issue? Alternatively... any hint on how to have a more optimized code and just use a series of vector3 coordinates (one for each point) to obtain the simple animation I want without having to declare new Hashtable(); etc... every time? I chose AniMate simply because 1. I'm a beginner with Unity 2. I don't need complex animations (e.g. I don't need to use iTween), just fixed animations along straight lines and I need something really simple and quick to implement in a script. However, if someone has an equally simple solution it will be welcome. thank you in advance for your help
