  • Ubuntu 12, limit the resolution to 640x480

    How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480 There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it? I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option. While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer. The only thing in my xorg.conf (by default) is this: Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection

  • All users of a group can edit each others files (Linux)

    I want anyone in group www-data to have write access to /var/www. For example, if 'a' and 'b' are in group www-data and 'a' creates a file in /var/www - then 'b' will be able to edit it. The problem is that I create files that PHP and Apache can't edit - and they create files I can't edit without sudo. I changed the umask setting /etc/profile from umask 022 to umask 002. Is this a safe and proper way to handle this?

  • Configuration Manager sub site codes

    I have two sub-sites set up in configuration manager. When the SCCM agent installs on the client machines within the boundaries of those sub sites they are assigned the site code of the Primary site, not the sub site code. As a result their management server remains the main server not the sub site server. I am setting up thes sub sites on cross WAN locations to cut down on traffic. What could be preventing the clients from getting associated with the proper sub site code.

  • DynDNS updating IP address via Cisco ASA 5505

    I'm setting up an ASA 5505 where the ISP provides a dynamic IP address (rarely changes.) I would like to start using some of the services provided by DynDNS such as Custom DNS. I've come across some information regarding Cisco Routers and DynDNS, but nothing definitive on the ASA platform. My question is whether I can configure the ASA5505 to update the IP address rather than install the DynDNS Updater software on a machine running on the LAN? Thanks

And in the Ubuntu 10.04 repositories, I found a "moonlight-plugin-mozilla" package, but not "moonlight-plugin-chrome" (or similar). Is there any way to do this, or does Moonlight not yet run in Chrome?

    I am looking for free or inexpensive software that I can watch video or listen to audio files and annotate what is happening as I watch. I am looking for something akin to audacity's label track but in a simpler application that also supports video. We don't need to edit the video or audio itself. It needs to be able to run on windows 7. Also if possible to have a setting where every 20 seconds the playback pauses to allow for annotation.

  • Shares on Hyper-V Host or Guest?

    I'm about to deploy a Hyper-V Server, that will have 2 local drives: 250GB for VMs, 2TB for Shares. Does Hyper-V Server (standalone, not as a role) allow you to setup Network Shares? Or will I have to setup a VM with the 2TB drive allocated to it, for setting up the Shares? If Hyper-V supports Shares, would there be a performance benefit? The Shares will be used by both the VMs on the Hyper-V Server and other Servers within the Network.

    Hello There, this is my first Serverfault Question: I found myself this afternoon Setting up a Win Server 2008 R2 system for use with Team foundation source code control, and in order to give team-mates right to connect, i had to create user account for each of them (10 persons) (I can't and I don't want to create a domain). The point is that, after that, all that user accounts are showing in the login screen. Can i set those accounts to not show there? How? Thanks in advance

  • How do I remove the ServerSignature added by mod_fcgid?

    I'm running Mod_Security and I'm using the SecServerSignature to customize the Server header that Apache returns. This part works fine, however I'm also running mod_fcgid which appends "mod_fcgid/2.3.5" to the header. Is there any way I can turn this off? Setting ServerSignature off doesn't do anything. I was able to get it to go away by changing the ServerTokens but that removed the customization I had added.

  • Is there a way to specify minimum minibuffer/echo area size in emacs?

    I am running Emacs 24, and due to a separate issue, my input method displays input candidates in the minibuffer regardless of how I set its options. That would not be such a problem if the minibuffer did not resize from height 2 (when displaying candidates) to height 1 (when not), repeatedly, as I scroll through candidates--it's really jarring. I looked through the documentation online and searched the configuration pages, but I couldn't find a setting for this. Is it possible?

  • System files not hidden Win XP

    I recently copied my win xp install from one hard to another(via ubuntu live cd) Everything went well, except that all the hidden system files(boot.ini, ntdlr, io.sys) are no longer hidden. I tried this: attrib +s c:/IO.sys No effect. The files are still visible even though the setting to hide system files is checked. Any solutions? Thanks.

  • ruby on rails gitorious setup on ubuntu

    Ive been trying to install gitorious for a while now which required ruby and rails etc. Ive finally got rails pages serving but cant finish the installation of gitorious because the gem version is too new. the error logs say please run 'rake ultrasphinx:configure' and that gives rake ultrasphinx:configure (in /var/www/apps/gitorious) rake aborted! uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Dependencies::Mutex /var/www/apps/gitorious/Rakefile:10:in `require' (See full trace by running task with --trace) From searching google this is beacuse of the wrong gem verison. Cant find a way to down grade it. apparently sudo gem update --system 1.4.2 should do the trick but ubuntu 10.10 does not like this. ERROR: While executing gem ... (RuntimeError) gem update --system is disabled on Debian, because it will overwrite the content of the rubygems Debian package, and might break your Debian system in subtle ways. The Debian-supported way to update rubygems is through apt-get, using Debian official repositories. If you really know what you are doing, you can still update rubygems by setting the REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM environment variable, but please remember that this is completely unsupported by Debian. So i added export REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM=1 to .bashrc and reloaded it with . ~/.bashrc and still the same. ive tried various forms of setting this environmental variable with no luck. Ive also been told on #gitorious irc channel to add the file config/initializers/rubygems.rb with the line require "thread" to it. This has done nothing. EDIT: Just found another way which was rvm install rubygems 1.4.2 and it gave: Removing old Rubygems files... Installing rubygems dedicated to ruby-1.8.7-p334... When creating the VM's, we cannot find specific requirements or recommendations for RAM/CPU power for read-only replicas. Our current Primary DataMart setup has 64GB RAM and Two Quad-Core procs, which so far has been adequate for our usage. What should be the server setup for replicas and SQL Server to adequately support the read-only usage?

  • Windows 7 Homegroups not working?

    I've got a homegroup set up, and only the accounts/machines where the user and password is identical can see/share files. I thought the setting to let homegroup control the accounts would make that requirement unnecessary....am I missing something? To be clear: I can see the other machines/user accounts in my homegroup listing, but I can't see any of the files in their shared libraries.

At startup, I have autologin and automatic Firefox start on the page and I have saved the basic auth credentials. I'd like to confirm in some automated way the username/password dialog box which pops up on the first opening of the page, or I'd like to know if there's any hack to avoid this dialog box. I tried setting the homepage to http://username%3Apassword@myserver/mypage put that doesn't stop confirmation dialog boxes.

  • Redhat linux terminal garbage output when using telnet

    I am using redhat-linux terminal to connect to a router device by means of 'telnet'. While the device boots, the characters are getting printed in garbage manner which is as follows, In terminal, If I click on the the menu 'Terminal'-- 'Reset', then it is getting changed to proper alphabetical. Is there any way available to prevent it ? I have tried setting the encoding of the terminal to UTF-8 from the menu options. But, still the same issue.

    I have configured nagios in my environment and i have used the following setting for a service which monitors the disk space for every 10 min , Normal check interval =10 min retry check interval = 1 min Maximum attempts =2 But accoring to this values i should recieve my first alert after 10 min and then from there for every 1 min. But in my case i am recieving my first alert and then next alert comes to me after 20 min. Can some one help me in fixing this.
