• Portable Contacts for PHP?

  I can see Google is implementing the Portable Contacts API for developers to fetch a user's contacts. That seems like exactly what I want to do and I especially like the fact that the protocol is open and through it I can support more than just Google. What I'd like to know is whether there is a library for PHP that implements this protocol, as I don't feel like writing one from scratch / reinventing the wheel. I wouldn't generally post such questions which could be answered by simply googling, but I've done my googling on the subject and can't seem to find any relevant info. BTW, I don't use Zend, so please don't suggest that to me, unless it's the only way possible.

Example: Select *,dayofmonth(FROM_UNIXTIME(i_created)) from notes where dayofmonth(FROM_UNIXTIME(i_created)) > dayofmonth(FROM_UNIXTIME(i_created)) -2 order by dayofmonth(FROM_UNIXTIME(i_created)) this query returns all the records date wise but we need very most two days record.   I am using jQuery to load ina background image that fills the page width / height. I have looked at a few other threads on Stack that suggest its not possible as a body element defined in css, but in this scenario the BG image is being loaded in by jQuery. How would I go about adding a fade in to this code to bring the image in with a nice fadein?

• getElementsByTagName() equivalent for textNodes

  Is there any way to get the collection of all textNode objects within a document? getElementsByTagName() works great for Elements, but textNodes are not Elements. Update: I realize this can be accomplished by walking the DOM - as many below suggest. I know how to write a DOM-walker function that looks at every node in the document. I was hoping there was some browser-native way to do it. After all it's a little strange that I can get all the <input>s with a single built-in call, but not all textNodes.

It have profiles (so you can have multiple setups) It's possible to analyze data It's possible to sync the data Im a little confused. First of all i cant really see where to have a model? And how many controller would you suggest? 1 WindowController or AnalyzeController, SyncController etc. Its quite a while since i have worked with MVC. • Generating the permutations from a number of Characters

  I'm working on a predictive text solution and have all the words being retrieved from a Trie based on input for a certain string of characters, i.e. "at" will give all words formed with "at" as a prefix. The problem that I have now, is that we are also supposed to return all other possibilities from pressing these 2 buttons, Button 2 and button 8 on the mobile phone, which would also give words formed with, "au, av, bt, bu, bv, ct, cu, cv" (most of which won't have any actual words. Can anyone suggest a solution and how I would go about doing this for calculating the different permutations? (at the moment, I'm prompting the user to enter the prefix (not using a GUI right now)

• Can review changes in Acrobat Reader (Pro, or not) be 'applied' to a PDF?

  Hi there, As part of an enhancement to my workplace processes, we're trying to streamline review of various documents. Yeah, there's way better alternatives to what I'm about to suggest, but the reality is that I have no time allocated to investigate things like DAV, repo setups and such. What I do have time allocated for is improving workflow around tools we already use. So I tried to work through the Adobe PDF collaborative review cycle. I have to say it was pretty amazing, from the notify toolbar icon to doc merging, to user access control. They offer it all, EXCEPT the ability to actually apply review changes to a PDF!?! To clarify, after sending a PDF through the collab review cycle (involving a bunch for external editors and internal staff) the end result was a PDF full of rich feedback - but I can see no way to finalised and apply those 'accepted' review points to the PDF in question. I hope this is clear enough, feel free to ask questions to clarify - perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but perhaps applying changes to an already existing PDF is not possible? -d

• Can using non primitive Integer/ Long datatypes too frequently in the application, hurt the performance??

  I am using Long/Integer data types very frequently in my application, to build Generic datatypes. I fear that using these wrapper objects instead of primitive data types may be harmful for performance since each time it needs to create objects which is an expensive operation. but also it seems that I have no other choice(when I have to use primtives with generics) rather than just using them. However, still it would be great if you can suggest if there is anything I could do to make it better. or any way if I could just avoid it ?? Also What may be the downsides of this ? Suggestions welcomed!

What should i do? Should i create a column that gets date/time of the system when insertion/update happens to the table and then compare the created date/time with the time employee's specified - If so in this case i will have to create date/time column for timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut. I don't know, what do you suggest? Note: i'm concerned about tracking these 4 columns timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut

• How to avoid StaleObjectStateException when transaction updates thousands of entities?

  We are using Hibernate 3.6.0.Final with JPA 2 and Spring 3.0.5 for a large scale enterprise application running on tomcat 7 and MySQL 5.5. Most of the transactions in application, lives for less than a second and update 5-10 entities but in some use cases we need to update more than 10-20K entities in single transaction, which takes few minutes and hence more than 70% of times such transaction fails with StaleObjectStateException because some of those entities got updated by some other transaction. We generally maintain version column in all tables and in case of StaleObjectStateException we generally retry but since these longs transactions are anyways very long so if we keep on retrying then also I am not very sure that we'll be able to escape StaleObjectStateException. Also lot of activities keep updating these entities in busy hours so we cannot go with pessimistic approach because it can potentially halt many activities in system. Please suggest how to fix such long transaction issue because we cannot spawn thousands of independent and small transactions because we cannot afford messed up data in case of some failed & some successful transactions.

  Hi, I have a few hundred phpld sites to move - each has its own cpanel, ( & the target may have shared cpanel) & I can do a full cpanel backup on the original server, but I don't have whm on the current host - the backups are fairly easy to organize but the installs so far means picking through files & setting up db's & mail etc by hand - I am thinking there ought to be an easier ie scripted way to do the installs or at least some parts - can anyone please suggest something ?   I am trying to create an Entity SQL that is a union of two sub-queries. (SELECT VALUE DISTINCT ROW(e.ColumnA, e.ColumnB, 1 AS Rank) FROM Context.Entity AS E WHERE ...) UNION ALL (SELECT VALUE DISTINCT ROW(e.ColumnA, e.ColumnB, 2 AS Rank) FROM Context.Entity AS E WHERE ...) ORDER BY *??* LIMIT 50 I have tried: ORDER BY Rank and ORDER BY e.Rank but I keep getting: System.Data.EntitySqlException: The query syntax is not valid. Near keyword 'ORDER' I do not think it is a problem with the Rank column. I do think it is how I am trying to apply an order by to two different esql statements joined by union all. Could someone suggest: How to apply a ORDER BY to this kind of UNION/UNION ALL statment How to order by the non-entity column expression. Thanks.

• How to get notified of changes on a read only table? (I.e., Price drop notifications.)

  Let's say I have these tables/models: Product - id - last_updated_date - name - price User - id - name Wishlist - id - user_id - product_id The Product table has a few million records and is being updated automatically each night via a data import (inserting into a new table, dropping the old one). I basically have read-only access to that table/model. If a product is on a user's wishlist and the price drops, I'd like to be able to notify that user. What methods can be used to do this? I have a couple of ideas: Keep track of the Product.last_updated_date in the wishlist model and periodically poll the product table to see if it has been updated. This sounds like a horrible/non-scaleable solution. Some sort of Postgres View or Function that triggers when the Product table is updated? I'm new to postgres so I'm not yet sure if this is even possible. Something amazing that you will suggest that I haven't thought of :) Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

The data is a set of numbers that change every day, our journalists work to get hard gather it. Is there any way to hide, crypt, etc. the data in a way that it cannot be reused by others? • Using MySQL as a job queue

  I'd like to use MySQL as a job queue. Multiple machines will be producing and consuming jobs. Jobs need to be scheduled; some may run every hour, some every day, etc. It seems fairly straightforward: for each job, have a "nextFireTime" column, and have worker machines search for the job with the nextFireTime, change the status of the record to "inProcess", and then update the nextFireTime when the job ends. The problem comes in when a worker dies silently. It won't be able to update the nextFireTime or set the status back to "idle". Unfortunately, jobs can be long-running, so a reaper thread that looks for jobs that have been inProcess too long isn't an option. There's no timeout value that would work. Can anyone suggest a design pattern that would properly handle unreliable worker machines?

• Jquery/CSS help needed to make fallback for IE and older browsers

  Wondering if any of you can help me: I've made a signup modal that uses a CSS transform to switch between two methods of signing up. I've decided to try a 'card flip' type effect. Have a look at this JSfiddle in any browser that supports CSS 3D transforms - click the 'old fashioned way' text to 'flip' the modal (simplified for demo purposes): http://jsfiddle.net/voodoo6/cnTMz/8/ Then take a look in IE8/9 - as the 'back' is taller than the front and IE does;t support 'backface-visibility: hidden;' the reverse can be seen below the front. I've been trying to use JQuery and conditional CSS to 'display:none' the 'back' on load in IE (and older browsers), then add a 'display:block;' class to show it on click, problem is, I'm a JQuery beginner and have been struggling to get it to work! Not even sure if this is the best approach? Can anybody suggest an approach that would get this working in less-capable browsers? Thanks for any advice..

  Hello Stackoverflow Team, This is just a suggestion to you. In the first place i must say that you guys are doing a great job. I suggest that you build into the forum system a mail notifier(to notify users whenever there is a move/deletion of a post with the reason of the move/deletion) so that whenever you move or removed someone's post then he can be notified about the move, so that we don't spend time looking for posts that are removed. I think by so doing the number of duplicate posts and mistakes from users can be minimized. The reason is i spent hours searching through the posts to locate my posts that you have re/moved. That is why i was a little bit upset. Sorry if here is the wrong place to post my suggestion. Point me to the right place. Thanks for your work.

• WebSocket send extra information on connection

  Is there a way for a WebSocket client to send additional information on the initial connection to the WebSocket server? I'm asking because I want the client to send the user ID (string) to the server immediately. I don't want the client to send the user ID in the onopen callback. Why? Because it's faster and simpler. If the WebSocket API won't let you do this, why not? If there's no good reason, how could I suggest they add this simple feature?
