As a part of security policy we need to disable CDROM & USB access for normal users. Only root users should have the access. We are mainly using Ubuntu Linux.
My 4 year old son likes to play games on my wife's iPod touch and has a 'cute' habit of deleting apps via long-press on the icon and then pressing the red X.
Is it possible to disable this feature?
Is there any possible solution to disable a User from the CLI e.g. over SSH?
There has to be a dscl command for that. Or is there a dsAttrTypeStandard attribute that I can set accordingly?
Any pointers ?
When I perform an action that is not valid in a given context, like attempting to type when a text area does not have the focus I hear a beep, which is very distracting when wearing headphones. How can I disable this?
I am not sure how to reproduce this as it only happens under certain circumstances which I have not yet nailed down.
It seems that there used to be a config option to disable multipath ip route caching in linux, but has since been removed?
Is there any workaround for this, or method of disabling this behavior?
When I look at a story on Slashdot, I see a side-bar that sits constantly in the upper-left corner. Every time I open a story, I have to click on the "slash" sign in its upper-right corner.
How can I disable it, so it will always have css position absolute, relative or static? Is there an option for it? Because I find it is slowing my browser down when I am scrolling the page.
Thank you,
Tom
I have this RS232 USB device that Windows 7 thinks its a mouse. When it's activated the mouse cursor starts to jump to random places on the screen. I want to use this device but I want to disable this strange behavior.
There is an awful stupid button on this lenovo T60 i'm using which sends the browser back a page.
I really need to disable it.
I can't find it anywhere in the Keyboard settings in control panel or the special Lenovo setup utility ("Thinkpad configuration"). Thinkpad Config has everything but keyboard. Its got mouse, trackpoint..
Hey guys,
Is there a plugin/extension to disable CSS on certain sites and not others when browsing?
Sort of like the ability featured in web dev toolbar plugins, but selective and automatic.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
For quite some time my hard disk is almost used up and the low disk space alert keeps on popping up which is really annoying. Is there a way to disable this alert?
Pre-Snow Leopard, I could use the following command:
defaults write com.apple.loginwindow Finder /Applications/My-replacement-app-such-as-Terminal.app
Which would a.) replace the Finder launching at login with an application of my choice, and b.) cause that application to launch instead of Finder when all other applications are quit.
Is it possible to do this in Snow Leopard, or has this behavior been deprecated? (I don't want to disable Finder altogether, I just don't want it to start at login.)
Hello,

Since i am using a limited broadband connection, auto update really breaks my head
Please help me to solve this
Can you disable the wifi on the BT Voyager 2000 wireless modem? I use an Aiport Extreme for my wifi (on 802.11n), so I’d rather have the modem’s wifi switched off (I’m starting to think it might be interfering with my Aiport’s wifi signal).
We have configured a SMTP server on IIS. We have not configured any SPF rule. Some emails are going straight to the badmail folder. Most of them have this error message:
Address does not pass the Sender Policy Framework
Is there any way to disable that? I know this is insecure and spammers could use it to send spam, but I really need it to be disabled for now until I have configured and tested the SPF correctly.
When Vs2010 crashes, it wants to collect information to help microsoft fix the problem, with this dialog:
Unfortunately this is kind of annoying behavior because it takes more than 5 seconds. So I was wondering how to disable crash information collection on visual studio 2010.
Is it even possible?
How do I disable Explorer View for select users in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0?
Setting specific permissions becomes useless when my users could just go into explorer view and start deleting.
Please help.
My external hard disk often starts making an irritating scraping sound. It stops if I do something that causes disk activity on it. But then, after 3 minutes or so, it starts again. It's very annoying. Is there a way to disable it?
It's a Western Digital WD 10EAVS.
I noticed that the transparent interface in Firefox 4 for Windows 7 is really curbing performance. After Googling for a method to disable Aero for Firefox, however, I got no results. There just doesn't seem to be a straight forward (such as a simple Boolean to turn it off in about:config) method to get rid of Aero effects.
Is it even possible in the Firefox 4 beta? I'm using Firefox 4 beta 12 (soon to be beta 13 after the update).
I really hate the feature in Windows 7, that it verifies before copying any files whether the files fit to the destination drive. I have a pretty old MP3 player and I want to just select n songs and drag & drop them to the player, and copy as many files of the selection as possible. Windows 7 refuses to copy any of the files if all of them don't fit to the destination drive.
How can I disable this annoying behaviour?
In Google Chrome there's this built-in Google Translate toolbar:
However, I'm unable to find a way to disable the darn thing!
Has anyone found a way to do so yet? I know it's a dev built, so it will be fixed in the next release. But it would be nice if there was a workaround.
I'd like to turn off Windows 7 video thumbnails displayed in . I found this solution for Windows XP but it doesn't work for Windows 7 ("The module shmedia.dll failed to load").

I use AWN dock on Linux (which behaves much like Windows 7 panes, using one icon for launching an application and managing its windows). It loses Skype (as well as any other application) when it goes minimized to system tray (notification area). Can I disable Skype from minimizing to system tray favouring Win7-like behaviour?
Skype version I use is 2.1 beta, but I would not mind reinstalling it in favour of another version.
I use Arch Linux with all the latest kernel, x.org and xfce.
