• Determine mailbox access protocol using C#

  Hi All, I racked my brain about how can i determine what protocol is used by a mailbox. I'm creating a simple C# application that get an email adress and read all the mails, first of all i have to know how to access to this mailbox (which protocol to use) - i'm looking for a way to check what it the appropriate protocol (and please don't suggest me to try accessing all of them). BTW, I don't have any limit which framework to use. hanks in advance!!! I'll appriciate a quick (and good :)) respone!

• NoSQL or Ehcache caching ?

  I'm building a Route Planner Webapp using Spring/Hibernate/Tomcat and a mysql database, I have a database containing read only data, such as Bus Stop Coordinates, Bus times which is never updated. I'm trying to make the app run faster, each time the application is run it will preform approx 1000 reads to the database to calculate a route. I have setup a Ehcache which greatly improves the read from database times. I'm now setting terracotta + Ehcache distributed caching to share the cache with multiple Tomcat JVMs. This seems a bit complicated. I've tried memcached but it was not performing as fast as ehcache. I'm wondering if a MongoDb or Redis would be better suited. I have no experience with nosql but I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas. What i need is quick access to the read only database.

• How could I stop PHP from returning headers when executed from commandline?

  This may be a ridiculous question, but it's been bothering me for a while. I have a mail forwarder piped to a PHP script, it receives perfectly, however I have the following error mailed back to me instantly: A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: pipe to |/home/[webroot]/public_html/external/mobile/email.php generated by mobile@[mydomain] The following text was generated during the delivery attempt: X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.13 Content-type: text/html As you can see, Exim thinks the header response an error from the script I have. The script can receive the Email perfectly from php://stdin but Exim is quick-replying with the error. Plus, It's running from console, not Apache so HTAccess or configuring Apache most likely would do nothing. I can not find any solution, or anyone with the same problem. So my question is: How to I get rid of those two headers? Thanks, ~Jonny

  How would you setup the gesture recognizers so that you could have a UISwipeGestureRecognizer and a UIPanGestureRecognizer work at the same time? Such that if you touch and move quickly (quick swipe) it detects the gesture as a swipe but if you touch then move (short delay between touch & move) it detects it as a pan? I've tried various permutations of requireGestureRecognizerToFail and that didn't help exactly, it made it so that if the SwipeGesture was left then my pan gesture would work up, down and right but any movement left was detected by the swipe gesture.

• I want to move 1 array to another in C#

  Hi, This is just a quick question in C#. I have a scenario where I am working with several devices that all have slightly different data to work with. When I work out which device I am using, I want to set up a common array to use throughout the code, say arrayCommon. So I want to move the info from device1 to the common array. Do I have to do this in a loop for each occurance in the array or can u move the whole array into the common array, as you could in Cobol all those years ago ? Thanks, George.

• How to convert a MSSQL database (including procedures, functions and triggers) to a firebird databas

  I am considering migrating to Firebird. To have a "quick start" approach I downloaded the trial of a conversion tool (DBConvert) and tried it. I just picked up a random tool, this tool doesn't convert procedures, functions and triggers (I don't think it is a limit of the trial since there is not an explicit reference to sp, sf and triggers in the link above). Anyway by trying that tool I had the message: "The DB cannot be converted succesfully because some FK names are too long." This is because in some tables I have FK whose description is 32 chars. Is this a real firebird limit or it is possible to overcome it somehow (of course renaming the FK is an extreme option because it is extra work)? Anyway how to convert a MS SQL DB fully to FIREBIRD? Is there a valid tool? Did someone succed in a conversion of non trivial databases?

In my emacs config, I have split my customizations into a series of files, where each file is a single unit of related options (for example, all my perl-related settings might be in perl-settings.el. All these settings files are loaded automatically by a function in my .emacs that simply loads every elisp file under my "settings" directory. I am looking to structure my Conkeror config in the same way, with my main conkeror-rc file basically being a stub that loads all the js files under a certain directory relative to my home directory. Unfortunately, I am much less literate in javascript than I am in elisp, so I don't even know how to "source" a file.

• Cache for large read only database recommendation

  I am building site on with Spring, Hibernate and Mysql. The mysql database contains information on coordinates and locations etc, it is never updated only queried. The database contains 15000 rows of coordinates and 48000 rows of coordinate connections. Every time a request is processed, the application needs to read all these coordinates which is taking approx 3-4 seconds. I would like to set up a cache, to allow quick access to the data. I'm researching memcached at the moment, can you please advise if this would be my best option?

  How does one stream files, html or custom AJAX responses from web parts? Our current quick-and-very-dirty solution is to make the web part call the current page with certain query parameters, which the web part checks and instead of performing normal load it writes the required things to output and calls response end. This sounds bad since SharePoint might load other web parts and execute their code before reaching our web part. The web part is configured with data source settings which means the streaming context must be specific to the web part so it can acquire the correct data source settings.

  Having implemented PayPal's Website Payments Standard, I'd like to link to the details view of a transaction from my site's back end - just a simple direct web URL to the PayPal side. I don't know why this is tricky but when I try to get it from being logged in to the PayPal system it seems very obfuscated, in this form: history.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_history-details&info=[looks like some kind of GUID]&ptype=4&history_cache=[huge encoded string] I'm guessing it's by design but it's not very helpful if you want a quick way to jump to a transaction's details. I've tried the https://www.paypal.com/vst/id=1234 form (also with co.uk as I am UK-based) recommended on a few sites I saw in my search, but I am told that: The transaction ID in your link is invalid. This happens even when copying the transaction ID directly from PayPal's back-end order listing. Is there a reliable way to directly link to an order / transaction details page in PayPal?

  I'm looking for a very quick way to generate an alphanumeric unique id for a primary key in a table. • For Qt 4.6.x, how to auto-size text to fit in a specified width?

  Inside of my QGraphicsRectItem::paint(), I am trying to draw the name of the item within its rect(). However, for each of the different items, they can be of variable width and similarly names can be of variable length. Currently I am starting with a maximum font size, checking if it fits and decrementing it until I find a font size that fits. So far, I haven't been able to find a quick and easy way to do this. Is there a better, or more efficient way to do this?   I'm beginning development of a website and a high priority is for it to be extremely optimized, quick responses, etc. There will ultimately end up being large amounts of rows in the main tables (millions), so scalability is also important. It will need to use a database on the back-end for data storage and my web hosting service supports either MySQL or Sql Server. This website will be developed with .NET ASP.NET MVC with NHibernate (hopefully it can run in medium trust mode, as that is a requirement of my web hosting and reflection requirements of NHibernate may be problematic, maybe someone has a comment on this too). I'd also prefer to use the database that will require the least attention in regards to management. I don't want to have to be a DBA here. :) I wanted to through this topic out to the public to see what the community thinks? So MySQL or Sql Server, generally, which one would be better to use?

• Can't write text into textbox in ASP.NET web app

In the codebehind for the .ascx page (which I embed as below), I attempt to write a string to a textbox in a method like this: Code for embedding control: Control ctrl = Page.LoadControl("/RackRecable.ascx"); PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(ctrl); Method to make string for inserting into textbox: string AppendDetails() { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append("msg" + " " + textbox1.Text etc etc ); return sb.ToString(); } Called as (in codebehind event handler for button click): this.TextBox4.Text = AppendDetails(); I call it by using ATextBox.Text = AppendDetails (in the button click event handler). The textbox TextBox4 is in the designer file so I am confused why the text does not get written into this textbox (it is readonly and enabled). When stepping through, the textbox4 control will successfully show the text I want it to display in quick watch but not in the actual page, it won't. Any ideas? Thanks

  Hi, Which lightweight SQL Server type could I use on my Dev machine for a C# VS2010 project? (e.g. sql server express, sql server ce, full version etc). That is, I'm running on a VMWare fusion instance on my MacBook, and just want something to develop against for a C# VS2010 project. I'm planning on having a simple database (not many tables) but will use Entity Framework. I haven't used SQL Server before so a quick pointer re what is the best database admin interface/app to use for the version you recommend (e.g. to create database, tables etc).

• Kohana v3, escape illegal characters?

  Quick question, does Kohana (version 3) automatically escape data that is passed into ORM::factory..... (and everywhere else that has to do with the database)? For example: $thread = ORM::factory('thread', $this->request->param('id')); Would the data passed in the second argument be auto-escaped before it goes in the SQL query or do I have to manually do it? Probably a stupid question and it's better to be safe than sorry, but yeah... I usually do manually escape the data, but I want to know if Kohana does this for me? Thanks

• How can I drop a table if it exists in SQL Server 2000?

  I have a DTS package that drops a table then creates it and populates it but sometimes something happens and the package fails after the drop table. If it's rerun it fails cuz the table hasn't been created yet. Is there something like "if exists" for SQLServer 2000 like in MySQL? thanks. Edit Thanks everyone!   Hello all, Both the MySQLi and MySQLi_STMT classes have an $insert_id property. If I am connected to my database using a MySQLi object (say $db), and then I perform an INSERT with a MySQLi_STMT object (say $stmt), to get the id of the last INSERT, should I use: $last_id = $db->insert_id; or $last_id = $stmt->insert_id; Or would they be the same, in which case it doesn't matter? I thought this might be a quick answer for someone, and save me the time of writing the test code to check it. Thanks in advance as always.

Currenly i have a map in my application and the operating system will ask the user if it wants to allow the use of geolocations. Now thats all nice but the thing is i want to change my app when geolocations is allowed to a so called "Geo location" mode where new options are available or "standard" mode with less ui elements when permissions are not granted. I want to make it so that if the user closes the box, then it will not pop up for another 5 minutes (unless they check the messages then it will not pop up because the entries that cause the pop up are deleted in the database). On the close of the box I was thinking of giving the user a javascript cookie, since the alert box is done in javascript. I was wondering if this was a bad coding practice, since I am kind of unfamiliar with cookies and was warned against them before. If anyone has any advice or can recommend a better way, I would really appreciate it.
