  • How does this module code work?

    - by phsr
    I'm new to ruby and I am trying to figure out how the following code works The following code is inside a class in a module. The method is called later with the following code: @something ||= Module::Class.config class << self def config &block options = OpenStruct.new yield options if block_given? init_client! Client.new(options) end def init_client!(client) base_eigenclass = class << Base; self; end base_eigenclass.send :define_method, :client do @client = client end client end end The class has some constants in it, and when the classes initialize is called, the instance member are set to option.variable || VARIABLE_CONSTANT. I understand that if there is no value for option.variable then VARIABLE_CONSTANT is used, but I don't understand that calling Module::Class.config do |options| #some block end set the @client until config is called again with options The code definitely works, but I want to understand how it does

  • How to find out how libraries work together?

    - by Eric
    I'm tasked to replicate a few functionnalities from an existing application. This application rely on .NET managed assemblies accessible from C#. I can import those DLLs in my new C# project but there is no documentation on how to use them. Yes, this is labeled as an "SDK", but does not contain examples or documentation. Any pointers on how I should procceed? I thought about creating stubs assemblies and monitor their usage by the original application but this involves a lot of code, maybe a tool could do it for me?

  • removeClass doesn't work on the second DIV tag

    - by kwokwai
    Hi all, I am learning JQuery and writing a simple data validation for the two fields in a HTML form: <FORM name="addpost" id="addpost" method="post" action="/add"> <TABLE BORDER=0 width="100%"> <TR> <TD>Topic</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topic"> <INPUT type=text name="topic" id="topic" size="72" maxlength="108"/> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD>Comments</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topiccontent"> <TEXTAREA rows="12" cols="48" name="content" ID="content"> </TEXTAREA> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <INPUT type="submit" value="Send"> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> Here is the JQuery script for checking the data input from the form above: $('#addpost').submit(function(){ if($('#topic').val()==""){ $('#topic').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topic').removeClass('hierror');} if($('#topiccontent').val()==""){ $('#topiccontent').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror');} }); Here is the CSS for the hierror class: .hierror{border-style:solid; border-width:12px; border-color:#FF0000;} ('#topic').removeClass('hierror') works but ('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror') doesn't. Could you help me please?

  • How Does Modulus Divison Work

    - by NSWOA
    I don't really understand how modulus division works. I was calculating 27 % 16 and wound up with 11 and I don't understand why. I can't seem to find an explanation in layman's terms online. Can someone elaborate on a very high level as to what's going on here? EDIT: Thanks for all your answers. You guys are incredibly quick. It all makes sense now.

  • session[:key] = value doesn't work

    - by Bill Leeper
    I am trying to make use of session data in my application and for some reason I don't have something setup right. The code: session[:key] = some_value Generates the following error: The error occurred while evaluating nil.[] Other controllers don't have an issue with the session, so I am guessing I missed some basic configuration thing somewhere.

  • Jquery .text() seems not to work on XML in IE7

    - by volder
    My PHP backend sends XML response to the client (ajax): <response> <code>0</code> <message>OK</message> </response> in the javascript I'm trying to get CODE value in this way: var errorCode = $('code', xml).text(); and then depending on errorCode value I do processing. It is working fine in all browsers I tested except IE7. Instead of CODE value - it is giving me the empty string. The problem is not in 0 value, because I tried to use 5 as a code for example - the result was the same. Any ideas, because I'm stuck with :(( Thanks.

  • How does the increment operator (++) work on DateTime in C#

    - by sohtimsso1970
    What happens if you use the increment operator (++) on a DateTime type in C#? For instance, if I did this: DateTime blah = new DateTime(2010, 12, 24); blah++; What does blah become? Does that increment by a tick or a day? Or is that even legal? I don't have a dev environment around, and won't for a few days, or I would just try it and find out. I was too curious to wait so I figured I'd ask the community.

  • Time.new does not work as I would expect

    - by Marius Pop
    I am trying to generate some seed material. seed_array.each do |seed| Task.create(date: Date.new(2012,06,seed[1]), start_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2],seed[3]), end_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2] + 2,seed[3]), title: "#{seed[0]}") end Ultimately I will put random hours, minutes, seconds. The problem that I am facing is that instead of creating a time with the 2012-06-02 date it creates a time with a different date: 2000-01-01. I tested Time.new(2012,6,2,2,20,45) in rails console and it works as expected. When I am trying to seed my database however some voodo magic happens and I don't get the date I want. Any inputs are appreciated. Thank you! • Why doesn't this work?

    - by Kyle W
    take = raw_input('Please enter the string of numbers that compose code\n\n\t') y = str(take) l = [] for i in xrange(0, len(y), 3):         l.append(str(y[i:i+3])) b = len(l) a = 0 while(a!=b):         c = l[a].replace('444', ' ')         c = l[a].replace('111', 'a')         c = l[a].replace('112', 'b')         c = l[a].replace('113', 'c')         c = l[a].replace('114', 'd')         c = l[a].replace('115', 'e')         etc...         a = a + 1 filename = 'decmes.txt' file = open(filename, 'w') file.write(c) file.close() I can enter anything, just 111 for example and it gives me back the same thing I put in. Maybe it's something dumb, but I can't figure it out.

  • I can't click the links in Firefox and Chrome (they work in IE7)

I can't click the last 3 links in the following code (when I use FF or Chrome): HTML: <div id="leftmanulist"> <div class="abouttop"> <ul class="aboutlist"> <li class="index"><a>????</a></li> <li><a href="instruments.html">????</a></li> <li><a href="performance.html">????</a></li> <li><a href="clothes.html">????</a></li> <li><a href="aboutfalundafa.html">??????</a></li> <li><a href="awards.html">????</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="aboutbutton"></div> </div> CSS: #leftmanulist{ background:url("images/abouttop.gif") no-repeat; float: left; margin: 2px 2px 5px 30px; padding:39px 0 0 0; width:237px;} #leftmanulist ul li{line-height:35px;text-align:left; text-decoration:none;} #leftmanulist ul li a{ text-decoration:none;} #leftmanulist ul li:hover{ color:#0068FF;} #leftmanulist ul li a:hover{ color:#0068FF;} #leftmanulist ul li.index{ color:#0068FF;} #leftmanulist ul li.index a{ color:#0068FF;} .abouttop{background:url("images/leftmanulist_z.gif") repeat-y ; padding:0 6px; position:relative; z-index:0; width:237px;} .aboutlist{position:relative;left:28px;} .aboutbutton{background:url("images/leftmanulist_b.gif") no-repeat; width:237px; height:20px; position:relative; top:-17px; z-index:2;}

  • Using Color.rgb() doesnt work for full 0...255 range

    - by superflyninja
    I'm writing an android game using opengl. I'm using: colour = Color.rgb(theR,theG,theB); (all ints) to store the color of a rectangle. Then I parse out the RGB to render the rectangle: colorR = Color.red(color); colorG = Color.green(color); colorB = Color.blue(color); For example for color 53,130,255 this should result in a blue but on my app it results in a white. If i use 1,1,1 i get white. If i use 0,0,0 i get black. If i use 0,1,0 I get green etc. So it looks like any value over one is treated as 1 and so i am not getting the full 0...255 range. I tried using Color.argb and color = Color.parseColor(theColor) where the Color is a string. I'm using this in an opengles app. I have a class to display a rectangle of color. This definitely works fine as the correct size rectangle is rendered, just not a color using values above 1. I also use textures and everything displays fine. any ideas? thanks a million

  • Does Java have "properties" that work the same way properties work in C# (see the body of my text)?

    - by tyrone302
    In C#, you can use properties to make a data field publicly accessible (allowing the user to directly access it), and yet retain the ability to perform data validation on those directly-accessed fields. Doese Java have something similar? For Instance, suppose there exists a C# class with the following implementation(see below): public class newInt{ public newInt(){...} public int x{ get{ return this.x } set{ this.x = isValid(value) } } } private static int isValid(int value){...} This definition in the class allows the user to "naturally" use the data field 'x' when retrieving values from it and assigning values to it. Below is how it would be used in main. public class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ newInt a = new newInt(); a.x = 50; int b = a.x; } } The question is... can java do this as well? if so, what is it called?

  • "set shiftround" doesn't work in Vim?

    - by Ory Band
    Hi. I'm using MacVim, and when trying to set shiftround in my .vimrc I get the following error: E518: Unknown option:  shiftround EDIT: However, when I try to :set shiftround manually within Vim, it works and gives no errors. Anybody knows what is causing this? If somebody wants to view my whole .vimrc (perhaps something else I'm not of is the cause of this), please do: https://github.com/oryband/dotvim/blob/master/vimrc
