  My custom controls are not loading in VS.NET's designer because of a null reference exception. It's got everything to do with the way I am retrieving the baseUri of the application when it runs in the browser: _uriPrefix = Application.Current.Host.Source.AbsoluteUri.Substring(0, Application.Current.Host.Source.AbsoluteUri.IndexOf("/ClientBin")).Trim(); According to the exception details and the help file I'm directed to (here) I'm not correctly designing my app for a runtime that's not the browser (i.e. the new WPF editor in VS.NET or Expression Blend). So, the question is how do retrieve the baseUri (the http://localhost:#### part of my application) if I can't use Application.Host which apparently is null during design time? is there a safe way to do this so I can load my custom controls in a designer?

However, when the same application is set up on a Win 2008 R2, 64-bit server, we get the following error when the application is accessing the WCF service: No component for supporting the service was found Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentNotFoundException: No component for supporting the service was found We have set the flag for Enable 32-bit apps in "Application Pool" to true on the 64-bit server.

The program uses a JTextField for some text entry and a JLabel to indicate the text to be entered. • ASP.NET MVC: How can I explain an invalid type violation to an end-user with Html.ValidationSummary?

  Serious n00b warning here; please take mercy! So I finished the Nerd Dinner MVC Tutorial and I'm now in the process of converting a VB.NET application to ASP.NET MVC using the Nerd Dinner program as a sort of rough template. I am using the "IsValid / GetRuleViolations()" pattern to identify invalid user input or values that violate business rules. I am using LINQ to SQL and am taking advantage of the "OnValidate()" hook that allows me to run the validation and throw an application exception upon trying to save changes to the database via the CustomerRepository class. Anyway, everything works well, except that by the time the form values reach my validation method invalid types have already been converted to a default or existing value. (I have a "StreetNumber" property that is an integer, though I imagine this would be a problem for DateTime or any other non-strings as well.) Now, I am guessing that the UpdateModel() method throws an exception and then alters the value because the Html.ValidationMessage is displayed next to the StreetNumber field but my validation method never sees the original input. There are two problems with this: While the Html.ValidationMessage does signal that something is wrong, there is no corresponding entry in the Html.ValidationSummary. If I could even get the exception message to show up there indicating an invalid cast or something that would be better than nothing. My validation method which resides in my Customer partial class never sees the original user input so I do not know if the problem is a missing entry or an invalid type. I can't figure out how I can keep my validation logic nice and neat in one place and still get access to the form values. I could of course write some logic in the View that processes the user input, however that seems like the exact opposite of what I should be doing with MVC. Do I need a new validation pattern or is there some way to pass the original form values to my model class for processing? • How can a client try to reconnect to a server after a first failed try with WCF?

  Hey guys, I'm using a client - server app. When a client starts, he gets a login-screen. When the server is not up yet, the call to the server will throw an exception which i catch (EndpointNotFoundException). I show a messagebox telling the user the server is offline. When he tries to reconnect again, it will throw another exception (CommunicationObjectFaultedException), even though the server is online. When a new client starts then, he can connect to the server. But the client who attempted before, still gets the error. My question now is how can the first client login after a failed first try without having to start his program again. So i want to clear the communicationchannel of its faulted state or something like that. Thanks in advance.

  Hi! What might be reasons for running in the quoted exception upon a HQL select, when there is actually no NULL value in the respective field in the database? I've checked the database multiple times. I've manually submitted the query statement produced by hibernate (extracted from debug). Null values for the respective field are actually never returned. However, the corresponding row in the database is in fact nullable. Does hibernate care about the data base definition? I know, I could simple change the filed to a wrapper type, but we have a number of such fields in a legacy application and this only occurs upon a single query. I'm just wondering about the actual reason for getting this exception only with a single property. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

• C# - Rollback SqlTransaction in catch block - Problem with object accessability

  Hi there. I've got a problem, and all articles or examples i found seem to not care about it. I want to do some database actions in a transaction. What i want to do is very similar to most examples: using (SqlConnection Conn = new SqlConnection(_ConnectionString)) { try { Conn.Open(); SqlTransaction Trans = Conn.BeginTransaction(); using (SqlCommand Com = new SqlCommand(ComText, Conn)) { /* DB work */ } } catch (Exception Ex) { Trans.Rollback(); return -1; } } But the problem is, that the SqlTransaction Trans is declared inside the try block. So it is not accessable in the catch() block. Most examples just do Conn.Open() and Conn.BeginTransaction() before the try block. But i think thats a bit risky, since both can throw multiple exceptions. Am I wrong, or do most people just ignore this risk? Whats the best solution to be able to rollback, if an exception happens.   Hello guys, I'm here again with another question about MVC. Here is the deal. I have a simple table/class with an Id and a Name. Names suppossed to be unique, and are modeled like that in the DB. I created my controller and everything just works fine. But if I try to insert a name that already exists, an exception should be thrown. I'm just not finding what is the correct kind of exception and it's namespace. The error must be coming from the DB, so... Any ideas? Thanks

  Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience): DECLARE v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE; BEGIN SELECT b.ename INTO v_ename FROM bonus b JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno WHERE b.ename = 'Scott' FOR UPDATE OF b.ename; END; / While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

I am a software developer and I have written and exposed a Service on HTTPS at port 8000. Now i want to know that if there is any kind of software that can help me to trace if there is any kind of port blocking from one site to my service location with information of blocker host. I have tried couple of Tracerout software like wintrace but all these uses ICMP protocols and there is no option to provide port number in them. And moreover i like to ad an exception in Firewall for incoming ICMP protocal in windows server 2003 windows firewall but i can't see anyoption to ad protocol in exception instead there are only options to ad a program or ad a port of udp or tcp. Please help Regards
