  • Keep icons for shortcuts in thumbnail view?

    I want to keep icons for shortcuts in thumbnail view. eg: my pics folder is in thumbnail, but I want to easily see my familiar icons for shortcuts to various outside folders I drag the pics into, amongst the hundreds of pics and subfolders within my pics (which display the same as shortcuts at a glance) I had it like this on my last machine but I can't remember what I had to do. Reg tweak for filetype I think. (Using XPpro) Any clues? Thanks

  • VPN connection disabled in vista

    VPN connection in vista is disabled with the message like "you need active internet connection"... but i'm connected to the internet. Same issue in win7 I'm regularly solving just opening and closing properties of VPN... in vista this method failed. Last time I enabled connection after 10 min of random clickin on different properties many times and refreshing ) There is any stable way to fix the bug?

  • Batch convert AppleWorks files into PDF within originating folder, delete original file?

    Probably AppleScript is the way to go with this - I have found scripts online that do this, but snag on oversize printable area and put files in the same folder - I need files to stay in the folder the source came from. If the script also deleted the original AppleWorks file, that would be even better, but not required.   • How do I remap the keys on my keyboard?

    I broke my laptop and had to buy a new one with a new keyboard that I am struggling to get familiar with, especially with the keys like home, page-up, page-down and end, which aren't standardized at all. I found myself doing this for like the 5th time in the last several years, and I think it is really annoying. Is there an app that can reliably map one key to another?   • Trimming video from it's end using FFMpeg or Mencoder

    I have pack of .avi files that needs to be trimmed by 5 last seconds. I'm doing it using batch processing and naturally, they all have different length so I can't set a trim from the beginning. I know FFMpeg has commands -t and -ss as well as Mencoder has -endpos and -ss, but in my case I don't know if I can use them this way. My .bat file will look like this FOR %%i IN (*.avi) DO ( ffmpeg/mencoder -options "%%i" "%%~ni"1.avi ) Thanks in advance.

  • Why does no small Rj45 port exist?

    While I bought my last Tablet I noticed that no Tablet (and most smaller notebooks /convertibles) has a Rj45 port. Which I finde quite dissatisfying since I like to use RJ45 in numerous places. I think a reason could be that Rj45 is simply too big for a Tablet - it is downright massive compared to micro USB /HDMI etc. But that leads me to my question: Why is there no attempt to build a smaller micro-Rj45 port which could be used in constrained spaces?

  • Vista is showing contents of flash drive that was previously connected

    Today, after I clicked "folder X" in my external hard drive, instead of seeing the contents of "folder X", I see the contents of my flash drive (the last time it was connected)...which is not connected to my computer. My flash drive's files show for a couple of seconds before I am brought to "folder X" which was the folder I wanted to go to as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Any idea why this happened? I'm using Vista 32-bit business edition.

    Just for curiosity. An example machine: an dedicated amd64 server with the last stable version of FreeBSD and UFS for the partitions. How much resources consume FreeBSD for each empty jail? I mean, I don't want know what is the resource consumption of a jailed server or whatever, just the overhead of each jail. I'm especially interested on CPU, memory and IO. For a few jails the overhead is negligible but imagine a server with 100 jails.

  • Will resetting the computer account in AD(2003) break the shares?

    Had a power outage last night, still cleaning up from that. I have a file server that doesn't know it's part of the domain (getting the error: windows cannot connect to the domain either because the domain controller is down). I read that "resetting" the machine account the bring it back into the domain will do the trick. Since this is the file server for the entire office, I would like to be sure that I won't bork the umpteen number of shares on this server. Thanks!

  • My VPS ubuntu server is very slow

    I just installed a frech copy of Ubuntu 12.04 on my vps because my old installation was very slow, unfortunately this did not fix the problem. With slow I mean requests for my PHP websites take a long time, very slow (30 sec per request) to slow (3+ sec per request). When it's really bad SSH is also laggish. The websites are: askmike.org (pretty standard Wordpress) mvr.me (own PHP) slow? very slow: Here is a picture of loading a clean install of wordpress slow: here is a picture of loading a small PHP based website the vps The VPS has 256mb ram and an 25GB hdd. Besides serving the 2 small websites it isn't doing anything AFAIK. What have I installed Clean Ubuntu server 12.04 LAMP stack few things like git and nodejs (not using both) ossec (because I thought my server was getting hammered) munin What I already tried / done I installed munin so that I could watch io speed and such. The problem is that I don't know where to look for in the munin report. I checked logs and don't see anything strange (although I don't really know where to look for besides strange / repetitive errors and GET requests). I configured Apache MPM to: <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 40 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 </IfModule> (apache is using prefork, the default) Stats I copied the munin report as it appeared at 4:50 last night to a site hosted on a shared webhost. Note that tonight my mysql crashed somewhere after 1:00 (which is a new problem altogether), so therefor the graph for last night might look strange. Can anyone help me get my VPS up to normal speed? EDIT: Thanks for the replies. The VPS is 10 bucks a month and is from directvps.nl (Dutch host and I'm also dutch). I did two speed tests for disk IO: $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 23.1506 s, 46.4 MB/s $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 39.3796 s, 27.3 MB/s Anyway: how can I prove to my VPS host that it is to slow? I can understand a server being busy slowing a website down. But 5-30 sec loadtime for a normal PHP webpage?

The last time I checked they just took the ethernet packages and transported them to the "right" location. How does this switch detection work? Do switches alter the packages? Do they react on ICMP messages?

    Per the title, Skype won't open, throws an APPCRASH error code #C0000005. I have already tried: Checking the "compatibility" setting Removing the appdata/roaming/skype folder (it doesn't exist anyway) Installing versions 5.3.113, 5.3.116, 5.3.120 Checking audio and video drivers for most recent updates Uninstalling with "advanced" registry checking using Revo Uninstaller Anyone got some gems of experience to throw my way? (Unfortunately, it's someone else's computer, and they don't know the last thing they did before it stopped working...)

    Just setup WikkaWiki on my server, I have been trying to have the links go from wiki.mysite.info/wikka.php?wakka=Start into wiki.mysite.info/DotMG. I tried following their guide at http://docs.wikkawiki.org/ModRewrite, however it seems incomplete and outdated. Furthermore, as of version 1.3.2 base_url isn't even manually configurable from the wikka.config.php file. I am using version 1.3.2 of WikkaWiki. My nginx virtual hosts file contains: server { listen 80; server_name wiki.mysite.info; root /usr/share/nginx/wikka/; access_log /usr/share/nginx/.access/wikka; error_log /usr/share/nginx/.error/wikka error; location / { index index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ @wikka; } location @wikka { rewrite ^(.*/[^\./]*[^/])$ $1/ last; rewrite ^(.*)$ /wikka.php?wakka=$1 last; } location ~* \.php$ { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; } } Thus far it works, I can go to wiki.mysite.info/APage and it'll display that page, however it doesn't work on all pages, sometime the browser simply downloads the page (For some reason it always downloads the Start page). Also when I go to wiki.mysite.info/ it downloads the wikka.php file... Furthermore, the links on the wiki have the wikka.php?wakka= so whenever I navigate around the wiki, it goes back to being wiki.mysite.info/wikka.php?wakka=APage. I think something is wrong with my rewrite but I can't say for sure. But we found out the forced and automatic check still occurs on the underlying real disks, lets say sdb1 and sdc1. How can we switch that off?

  • Something remapped <C-w> in Vim, how do I reclaim it?

    I've been adding a lot of things to my Vim configuration, and apparently one of the plugins I've installed is reclaiming . Whenever I use that key combination, it shows this error: "E784: Cannot close last tab page". Is there a way to reclaim 's functionality without disabling the plugins? I mainly use it for switching between view panes in a split window.
