• Pidgin unable to connect to GTalk

  I can't believe I'm raising this question after years, but after a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.10, I'm unable to connect Pidgin to Google Talk. I use a Google Apps domain name, and the settings that I'm using are : Protocol : XMPP Username : **** Domain : ********.com Resource : Home In the advanced tab, Connection security : Require encryption. UNCHECK Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted steams Connect port : 5222 Connect sever : talk.google.com File transfer proxies : proxy.eu.jabber.org Bosh URL : (blank) In the proxy tab, No proxy. I had used these same settings on 12.04 and it had worked like a charm. Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, this is T-1 the precursor to the Cyberdyne Systems T-101 (and you know where that will lead to...) It is demonstrating a heartbeat using a simple Java SE Embedded program to drive it.   I have a client who wants a tool for him to be able to upload his products, enter orders, and keep track of customer details. There are quite a few highly customised requests, which is why he wants the tool custum made. He does not care much about the interface design - it just has to be usable and provide access to the databade. I've already designed the database. I have no experience of desktop applications and usually write my web apps in PHP with the Yii framework. But hosting this on a server seems like overkill. I also have .net experience from a few years ago. What would be the best options for writing this as a desktop application?

The reason why I am asking for help now is that I don't have a clue why my newly added accordion(s) do not expand upon being clicked. I've got a feeling it may be due to the newly added code as I was having problems using my code in the file so instead I looked at the source and copied the accordion level to be used and all appears to look fine apart from them not expanding. • Gnome 3 Shell extensions not working on Ubuntu 12.4 [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Gnome Shell Extension Empty I just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.4 running on a Win 7 box via VBox and switched the user interface to Gnome 3 but have a problem. In Advanced Settings (gnome tweak), the Shell Extensions window has no listings and the Theme window shows a "caution" triangle next to the Shell theme drop box. I have re-installed the default extensions using the Noobs Lab posted instructions: sudo apt-get install shell-extensions3.4 sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions The commands appear to complete without error. Symptoms are: Gnome 2 visual appearance and no window borders or controls. To close a window, I have to click the window indicator in the sys tray and select the close menu item. Any ideas?

  I successfully installed Ubuntu 14.04. I'm having the purple screen issue however even after making the nomodeset changes. It remains stuck on a purple screen. I can navigate through the menu options i.e Ubuntu, Advanced Options for Ubuntu, Memory Test, Windows Recovery Environment and Windows 8. I can't even boot into Windows 8. I'm totally new to this. If someone could please provide step by step instructions, that would be most appreciated.

• Why won't Remmina connect to Windows 7 Remote Desktop?

  I'm using Ubuntu and I'm trying to connect to another machine in a different network using remote desktop. In Windows7 I have made the following in order to activate remote desktop: I've gone to computer - properties - remote settings I've selected the option: "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop I've opened "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" In inbound rules I've enabled the rules for remote desktop (public and domain) I have also installed Remmina in the Ubuntu machine. For configuring it I did the following steps: Selected the RDP protocol In the server input I have written the Windows machine public IP. In username / password I have typed my login credentials (the same as my Windows admin account) But when I try to connect I get this error message: "Unable to connect to RDP server 89.130.251.160" If I ping my Windows7 machine, I have a correct response. Any suggestions?

Tomorrow, there is one by Dr. Knuth! Now the problem I am facing is, "I don't know much about the material he is going to talk", so I am not sure if I should plan and I fear it will be like going for a "temple". :) What is your advise and general strategy that you have followed whenever you wanted to attend a talk or lecture wherein, it may have been worthwhile if it were an introductory tutorial, but instead you were sitting in an advanced 1 hour lecture by a famous scientist.

  Hi all, I used to be a technical lead in a group of 3-5 programmers. Tech lead's responsibilities here would include thinking of/designing overall solution architecture, coding, refactoring, being the first to dive into the next big thing, reviewing others' code, sitting on customer meetings and answering endless questions from the rest of the team. Now I'm moving on to a branch-level position (in a branch of ~60 people), which entails pretty much the same, sans maybe the coding/refactoring part. Still kinda a tech lead, but the title "tech lead" is already being used and means something else - a group-level tech lead. Please help me come up with a good job title. I need something for my e-mail signature and, eventually, resume.

During a set of morning sessions, I presented on some of the new things that we've done in Oracle Solaris 11 and our focus for the future. One of the sessions I presented was giving a quick technical overview of what a typical application deployment scenario would look like using technologies like the Image Packaging System (IPS), Service Management Facility (SMF), Oracle Solaris Zones, and network virtualization. While it's just a simple example, it provides the basic building blocks for a more advanced configuration that a data center would typically deploy.   Quick shoutout for the Fusion Applications (Cloud Applications to you) Developer Relations blog post about translating Fusion apps customizations using composers and other tools and utilities provided by Oracle. Great to see Fusion help customizations included in the post, as well as software, and it also includes a nice heads up on what's coming to enable customers to make changes to text themselves in Release 8 of Oracle's Cloud Applications. I am proud to say that I logged the enhancements for what's coming in Release 8  to come to life and also wrote a spec for its requirements based on the customer research done internationally through the Oracle Usability Advisory Board). Remember,  copywriting is design and translated versions means reflecting local UX requirements too! Nice post guys!
