• Can Apache 2 be configured to start sending gzipped data early?

  We have Apache set up to gzip compress html pages before they are sent to the client browser. However, some of our pages are slowish to generate and it seems that Apache is holding on until it has the complete page, compressing it, then sending it to the browser. There are big chunks of the page (the main important bits) that are actually generated and output fairly quickly. Is it possible to configure Apache to start compressing and send data for the page as soon as the script starts outputting something? Is it is, can you offer any help is how to do this? If not, can you suggest any other way to get gzip compression working for the server? The scripts that generate the pages are written in PHP. We are using Apache 2.0 on Linux.

  I have configured a couple of VLANs on a Cisco Catalyst switch, i will put all the ports that clients is connected to, into these VLANs. I want to configure the native VLAN [vlan 1] as management VLAN so i can use a telnet client to connect to the switch. How can i block all but one specific IP-address to telnet into the switch? As i understand vlan 1 has many task regarding different protocols and i do not want to break that but only allow one specific IP-address to connect to the switch with a telnet client [actually the gateway ip address of the switch].

• Postfix: Second sender address for a single mailbox

  I have got two domains: a.com and b.com. Currently all mails to [email protected] are insert to the mailbox "a". I configure in the file /etc/postfix/vmailbox that all mails to [email protected] are forwarded to [email protected]. Now I want to send mails from b.com, but postfix only accept smtp-requests from [email protected]. How can I add a new SMTP account without creating a new "dummy" mailbox? Is there any possibility to create an alias for outbox-accounts? I'm using ISPConfig 3.0.4.2 as configuration backend for postfix.

• Nobody nogroup on ubuntu client with Solaris server

  I have an openIdiana server with ZFS and it has been shared with NFS on a ubuntu server (called server1) one year ago. Now i am asked to shared it on a second ubuntu server (called server2). So i have took the line in /etc/fstab from server 1 and add it in server2: 192.168.1.22:mypool/data/.zfs/snapshot /mnt/zfs nfs acl,intr,noatime 0 0 But when i mount it, the rights on server2 are "nobody nogroup" (connect as anonymous?!) whereas its ok on server1. And on my OpenIndiana, I haven't found where it is configured (its not me who configured it last year). So I have tried to set zfs set sharenfs=rw numpool/data but without success. So i am looking for a file like /etc/exports on Ubuntu to configure which server is allowed to connect, and not as anonymous. Any idea? thanks,

Hence we would like to setup a tacacs+ server integrated with some database. Can this be done? I found the following package at www.shrubbery.net/tac_plus/ but it does not have the necessary plugins for database. Please let me know how to go about this. TIA Sachin

• Making TT-RSS cache images

  Due to Google Reader's untimely demise, I've installed tiny-tiny RSS on my Linux machine under Apache 2. It's mostly a good enough replacement and I can at least go back to reading RSS feeds in my web browser at work. Can I configure or hack TT-RSS to cache all the images it finds in its feeds? There is an option when adding a feed, but it doesn't seem to actually do anything. If I view (for example) today's XKCD comic in TT-RSS it still loads the image from the XKCD website. What I want is the image to be cached in TT-RSS and served from there instead.

  Is is possible to configure WordPress permalinks directly in Apache httpd.conf? I have a server situation (Apache 2.2.3 CentOS PHP5.1.6) where I can't use .htaccess for performance reasons, but can use httpd.conf. The admin says that mod_rewrite is enabled, but AllowOverride is not, and I can't change those settings. And I need to restrict the permalinks to just the "blog" directory.   Hi, I am trying to follow this tutorial, on the subject of compiling ruby and rubygems on Snow Leopard: http://hivelogic.com/articles/compiling-ruby-rubygems-and-rails-on-snow-leopard I have added this to my ~/.profile: export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH" But if I write: echo $PATH I get: /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin:/usr/X11/bin But in tutorial it says: You should see /usr/local/bin at the beginning of the line returned by the system. I have installed macports sometime ago and plenty of other software, perhaps it has changed the path. Anyway, I have tried to proceed with the installation, so I have built ruby, I did: ./configure --enable-shared --enable-pthread CFLAGS=-D_XOPEN_SOURCE=1 make sudo make install cd .. But when I do which ruby I get: /usr/bin/ruby And according to the tutorial that's wrong. Also if I do ruby -v I get the older version of ruby that was preinstalled on Snow Leopard and not the one I've compiled. Thanks.

• IBM storage ds3400 Cant connect to management using fiber

  i have a problem with a DS3400 IBM storage system we bought a few years back. when i try to manage the storage using its IBM storage management i cant find it using automatic detection even though its connected directly using the fiber and i can see the Logical drives connected and working properly. when i tried to connect the two management Ethernet wires and manage the storage directly by entering the IP address manually i am able to connect however after i make several changes to the controller configuration one of the controllers stops responding and i am not able to ping it directly (since you cant make any changes without being connected to both controllers this is a problem) whats more bizarre is that when i change the IP of the controller that doesn't respond it starts working .. i have found some articles over the web explaining stuff about LUN31 being missing and causing similar problems however all my attempts to manually configure it failed . *link to an example http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5075711 in short im trying to get my storage to appear in the storage manager when directly connected using only the fiber cable directly attached. thanks in advance

  I have two networks LAN and DMZ.. Machines in DMZ are accesible from internet ( only over http). In LAN I have servers that see all LAN and all DMZ machines but machinse from DMZ don't see any LAN servers. Machines in LAN have access only to all LAN and DMZ, no direct access to internet and no access from internet. DMZ <------ LAN DMZ ----X--->LAN I'm planning to configure Bacula as major backup system. My plan is to install Bacula Director and Storage deamon on the same server in LAN for safety reasons. So my question is: Will this configuration work, is it posible for bacula director and storage deamon installed on server in LAN to makes backup servers that are in my DMZ? Or in this network configuration Bacula should be in DMZ? (If yes will I can backup with it servers in LAN ?)

Right now, I'm set up for general use in Mac OS 10.6.6 "Snow Leopard," and I have about 200gb of files in my home directory (/Users/justjake/). I want to use this user (and home directory) for other operating systems on other partitions. For example, I have Mac OS 10.5 installed on a 12gb partition. How can I share permissions, user accounts across my two operating systems? Would moving the my /Users directory from 10.6 to it's own partition then mounting it using /etc/fstab solve my issue?

  I have the following problem - Windows Vista does not connect to adhoc wireless network created on my Macbook. I have tried to create secured (with 40 bit key) and unsecured network but Windows Vista still has problems to connect. Windows VISTA informs me -- after 5 minutes of attempts - that setting up the connection -- with my adhoc network -- took too much time. My question: do I need to configure some settings on Vista to connect it to my Macbook? Maybe it is a problem with DHCP?   Three finger swipe left/right - Task switcher shows up (a horizontal bar with app symbols). Two finger swipe - highlights an icon and shows app name. ?? - switches to highlighted app. Since the highlighting is independent of the mouse cursor, a click doesn't work here without moving the mouse cursor. But I don't want this (locate mouse cursor, move the extra mile..). Maybe Better Touch Tool allows to configure a click to act as SPACE or RETURN in the task switcher? But how did Apple intend to use this?

  Hi, I would like to know if it possible to let a Windows Xp machine authenticate to Squid (Linux) using Kerberos without the need of an Active Directory domain. I only want to create a Kerberos ticket on the client side, which should give the client access to squid (using I.E.). I only found tutorials about configuring A.D./Squid, not an environment with only Linux servers. Thanks Update: The kerberos setup is correctly done, the proxy and client can get tickets. I've looked with wireshark to see what happens: 1. Client goes to /alfresco 2. Server sends Redirect to page 3. Client goes to Redirected page 4. Server sends a WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate header 5. Client DOES NOT respond to this how can i configure the windows-7 client (or the AD domain) so that the client will in fact engage with the SPNEGO protocol? instead of just asking for user credentials? (the user is logged in through kerberos in the domain.)

• Apache doesn't autostart because vpn isn't up yet.

  I have a FreeBSD8 server, and VPN connection to my ISP. I use mpd5 and it works fine. A have an Apache server whch works fine, if I start it manually, after VPN is get up. But when I add it to rc.conf autostart, it fail to start, saying (49) can't assign requested address: make_sock could not bind to address I suppose it's because VPN isn't up yet and no IP address assigned to the interface which i set in the Listen directive in the httpd.conf. If i set Listen to the existing 127.0.0.1, it fail to serve wan requests. Is there a solution, either to delay apache autostart or configure it some different?

  I am using ipsec-tools/racoon to create my VPN. I am using racoon-tool to configure racoon.conf but when I run racoon-tool reload it only generates the first section - Global items.   Well i have a server with two LAN Card Installed.I have a server in U.S and one in India.I have created a GRE tunnel to route all traffic from U.S Server to my Indian Server.My Traffic has UDP,TCP,HTTP,etc Traffic.Now i have two LAN Card on my Indian Server.Well i have configured two IPs on the system for some of my needs on the system.One is a /30 and another is a /24.Well now i want the /30 IP to talk to my /24 IP.Lets take a e.g the IPs are 180.151.130.34 - /30 and 103.243.19.254 -/24 I want to forward all the TCP,UDP,HTTP,etc like traffic coming to 180.151.130.34 to 103.243.19.254.In the sense i want to make them talk to each other in a way if a TCP/UDP Packet comes to 180.151.130.34 it should be forwarded to 103.243.19.254 and then that packet is sent back by 103.243.19.254 to 180.151.130.34.I am not able to configure this part.Can anyone tell me step by step how to do so? Well i forgot to specify i am using Windows Server 2008. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks in advance.

The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)

  I've been working with OpenSolaris and ZFS for 6 months, primarily on a Sun Fire x4540 and standard Dell and HP hardware. One downside to standard Perc and HP Smart Array controllers is that they do not have a true "passthrough" JBOD mode to present individual disks to ZFS. One can configure multiple RAID 0 arrays and get them working in ZFS, but it impacts hotswap capabilities (thus requiring a reboot upon disk failure/replacement). I'm curious as to what SAS/SATA controllers are recommended for home-brewed ZFS JBODs. In addition, how does battery-backed write cache (BBWC) play into the solution?
