  • Using Excel VBA to Create SQL Tables

    - by user307655
Hi All, I am trying to use Excel VBA to automate the creation of a SQL table in an existing SQL Database. I have come across the following code on this side. Private Sub CreateDatabaseFromExcel() Dim dbConnectStr As String Dim Catalog As Object Dim cnt As ADODB.Connection Dim dbPath As String Dim tblName As String 'Set database name in the Excel Sheet dbPath = ActiveSheet.Range("B1").Value 'Database Name tblName = ActiveSheet.Range("B2").Value 'Table Name dbConnectStr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & dbPath & ";" 'Create new database using name entered in Excel Cell ("B1") Set Catalog = CreateObject("ADOX.Catalog") Catalog.Create dbConnectStr Set Catalog = Nothing 'Connect to database and insert a new table Set cnt = New ADODB.Connection With cnt .Open dbConnectStr .Execute "CREATE TABLE tblName ([BankName] text(50) WITH Compression, " & _ "[RTNumber] text(9) WITH Compression, " & _ "[AccountNumber] text(10) WITH Compression, " & _ "[Address] text(150) WITH Compression, " & _ "[City] text(50) WITH Compression, " & _ "[ProvinceState] text(2) WITH Compression, " & _ "[Postal] text(6) WITH Compression, " & _ "[AccountAmount] decimal(6))" End With Set cnt = Nothing End Sub However i can't successfully get it to work? What I am trying to do is actually use Excel to create a table not a database? The database already exists. I would just like to create a new table. The name of the table will be referenced from cell A1 in Sheet 1. Can somebody please help. Thanks Regards Gerard

  • Rails: using find method to access joined tables for polymorphic relationships

    - by DJTripleThreat
Ok, I have a generic TimeSlot model that deals with a start_at and an end_at for time spans. A couple models derive from this but I'm referring to one in this question: AppointmentBlock which is a collection of Appointments. I want to validate an AppointmentBlock such that no other AppointmentBlocks have been scheduled for a particular Employee in the same time frame. Since AppointmentBlock has a polymorphic association with TimeSlot, you have to access the AppointmentBlock's start_at and end_at through the TimeSlot like so: appt_block.time_slot.start_at This means that I need to have some kind of join in my :conditions for my find() method call. Here is my code so far: #inside my appointment_block.rb model validate :employee_not_double_booked def employee_not_double_booked unless self.employee_id # this find's condition is incorrect because I need to join time_slots to get access # to start_at and end_at. How can I do this? blocks = AppointmentBlock.find(:first, :conditions => ['employee_id = ? and (start_at between ? and ? or end_at between ? and ?)', self.employee_id, self.time_slot.start_at, self.time_slot.end_at, self.time_slot.start_at, self.time_slot.end_at]) # pseudo code: # collect a list of appointment blocks that end after this # apointment block starts or start before this appointment # block ends that are also associated with this appointment # blocks assigned employee # if the count is great then 0 the employee has been double # booked. # if a block was found that means this employee is getting # double booked so raise an error errors.add "AppointmentBlock", "has already been scheduled during this time" if blocks end end Since AppointmentBlock doesn't have a start_at or an end_at how can I join with the time_slots table to get those conditions to work?

  • In SQL can I return a tables with a varying number of columns

    - by Matt
I have a somewhat more complicated scenario, but I think it should be possible. I have a large SPROC whose result is a set of characteristics for a set of persons. So the Table would look something like this: Property | Client1 Client 2 Client3 ----------------------------------------------------------- Sex | M F M Age | 67 56 67 Income | Low Mid Low It's built using cursors, iterating over different datasets. The problem I am facing is that there is a varying number of Clients and Properties, so an equally valid result over different input sets might be: Property | Client1 Client 2 ------------------------------------------- Sex | M F Age | 67 56 Weight | 122 122 The different number of properties is easy, those are just extra rows. My problem is that I need to declare a temporary table with a varying number of columns. There could be 2 clients or 100. Every client in guaranteed to have every property ultimately listed. What SQL structure would statisfy this and how can I declare it and insert things into it? I can't just flip the columns and rows either because there is a variable number of each.

  • jQuery Stop non-css animation

    - by Mark
I'm trying to stop a non-css animation: http://jsbin.com/aqute4/4/edit Button 1 starts the animation nicely, totally lost on how to stop it though, since .stop() seems to need a DOM element... rather than a random object. Thanks in advance. PS: Original code comes from: http://james.padolsey.com/javascript/fun-with-jquerys-animate/

  • Why is the Twitter Bootstrap "fixed" layout NOT fixed?

    - by leonel
The Twitter Bootstrap site reads as follows: The default and simple 940px-wide, centered layout for just about any website or page provided by a single <div class="container">. Quote from http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/scaffolding.html#layouts That's exactly what I have in my HTML but when I inspect the element, I see this CSS apply to it: .container, .navbar-fixed-top .container, .navbar-fixed-bottom .container { width: 1170px; } By the way, if I override that CSS rule by adding... div.container{ width:940px; } Then the elements inside the div.container are wider than the div.container itself and look out of place. So, why is the Twitter Bootstrap "fixed" layout NOT fixed? and how can I make it fixed?

  • What tools do you use when generating markup from mockups?

    - by Paul
So I endeavor to spend most of time on the app server side of things but time to time I need to get my hands dirty and generate markup/css/js from a wireframe or mockup. As far as tools go, Ive found browsershots and Litmus app helpful and of course, vm's as well for checking things out live in ie-{6,7,8}. Otherwise I do the heavy lifting in vim. For generating new markup thats not tied to a target design I think some of the css frameworks & tools like sass look useful but Im skeptical of their utility when needing to generate markup to match a photoshop design. So what tips / tools do you keep in your markup generating utility belt when building solid markup from designs? My list so far: Browsershots Browserlab.adobe.com Haml / Less / Sass (not used but will probably explore)

  • How can I set the main theme-font dynamically, in WordPress

    - by windyjonas
I have created a theme where I already have a custom options page where I let the user set text for footer, twitter user and some other things and that works well. Now i'd like to add the functionality of letting the user select which font that should be used for content on the site. How can i accomplish this? I can probably create a php file that outputs something like: <style type="text/css"> body{ font-family: <?php echo get_option('my-font');?>; } </style> and include that file in header.php, but that means that I have to hit php for every request for this css and I want to avoid that if posssible.

  • PHP 'smart' search engine to search Mysql tables advice

    - by Anonymous12345
I am creating a search engine for my php based website. I need to search a mysql table. Thing is, the search engine must be pretty 'smart', so that users can easily find their items (it's a classifieds website). I have currently set up a FULLTEXT search with this piece of code: MATCH (headline) AGAINST ($querystring) But this isn't enough... For instance, lets say the field headline contains something like Bmw 330ci. If I search for 330, I wont get any results. The ending ('ci') is just one of many endings in car models which must be taken into account when searching the table. Or what if the headline field is bmw330? Also no results, because it only matches full words. Or also, what if the headline is bmw 330, and I search for bmw 520, still with FULLTEXT I will get the bmw 330 as a result, even though I searched for bmw 520... Not good! How should I solve this problem?

  • iPhone Scroll images horizontally like in AppStore

    - by schaechtele
Hi there, I was wondering if it's possible to create a HTML div container with some CSS magic that shows a horizontal scrollbar like the one with the screenshots on the iTunes preview on the web. I want this to work in Safari on the iPhone. e.g. http://itunes.apple.com/app/super-monkey-ball/id281966695?mt=8 I would like to use that to display thumbnails in an UIWebView on iPhone. I experimented with the overflow css property but didn't get it to work. Thanks for your replies.

  • Combinationally unique MySQL tables

    - by Jack Webb-Heller
So, here's the problem (it's probably an easy one :P) This is my table structure: CREATE TABLE `users_awards` ( `user_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `award_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `duplicate` int(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', UNIQUE KEY `award_id` (`award_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 So it's for a user awards system. I don't want my users to be granted the same award multiple times, which is why I have a 'duplicate' field. The query I'm trying is this (with sample data of 3 and 2) : INSERT INTO users_awards (user_id, award_id) VALUES ('3','2') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE duplicate=duplicate+1 So my MySQL is a little rusty, but I set user_id to be a primary key, and award_id to be a UNIQUE key. This (kind of) created the desired effect. When user 1 was given award 2, it entered. If he/she got this twice, only one row would be in the table, and duplicate would be set to 1. And again, 2, etc. When user 2 was given award 1, it entered. If he/she got this twice, duplicate updated, etc. etc. But when user 1 is given award 1 (after user 2 has already been awarded it), user 2 (with award 1)'s duplicate field increases and nothing is added to user 1. Sorry if that's a little n00bish. Really appreciate the help! Jack

  • Can't figure out the color of an svg element

    I have a very simple HTML page, viewable on gh-pages with the following code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <link href="style.css" media="screen" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <script src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js'> </script> </head> <body> <div id="page"> <div id="content"> <div id="heatmap"> <svg style="margin-left: 80px; color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" width="800" height="880"> <g transform="translate(80,80)"> <rect style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" height="720" width="720"> </rect> </g> </svg> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> with the following CSS: body { background-color: #FFFFFF; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; color: #FFFFFF; } #wrapper { margin: 0 auto; padding: 0; } #page { width: 1000px; margin: 0 auto; padding: 40px 0px 0px 0px; } #content { float: left; width: 660px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; background: #FFFFFF; } I expect the rectangle, 'svg rect' to be the color #FFFFFF, or white. But it shows up as some other color. I opened it up in firebug, and it shows the computed color to be #FFFFF:

  • How to count the letters in a text with Javascript?

    - by Doguhanca
    I am currently trying to write a ''web application'' that has a simple text area inside, in which I want the letters of the text written to be pointed out. For example, if I write: ''How old are you? I am 19 years old'' I need a code to tell me how many 'A's and 'Y's and 'D's (and all letters of the alphabet from 0-26) are used in this sentence when I press a button on a HTML/ CSS page. Could you please tell me what I must write into my .JS file and what I should write into my .HTML file to do this with a click of a button when something is written in the ? I hope my explanation was detailed enough. Thanks! Edit (I'm very sorry for the problems I caused) - What I have done so far looks like this: HTML: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="theme.css"> <meta charset="utf-8"> <script src="test.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <div class='header'> Al.Fa.Be </div> <div class='yaz'> <textarea></textarea> </div> <div class='description'> <a href='http://www.google.com'>Ara</a> </div> <div class='description2'> <input id="clickMe" type="button" value="Hesapla" onclick="doFunction();" /> </div> CSS: body{ background:white; } selection{ background:#CCC; } #clickMe{ background:#CCC; border:1px solid #333; } .header{ font-size:70px; font-weight:bold; font-family:Arial; color:#333; margin-left:580px; padding-top:200px; } textarea{ width:1210px; height:40px; color:black; margin-top:20px; margin-left:100px; padding-left:10px; padding-top:10px; font-size:18px; font-family:Arial; } .description{ background:#f2f2f2; padding:6px; width:50px; text-align:center; border:1px solid #ddd; font-family:Arial; margin-left:620px; margin-top:20px; font-size:14px; } .description a{ color:#555; text-decoration:none; } .description2{ background:#f2f2f2; padding:6px; width:60px; text-align:center; border:1px solid #ddd; font-family:Arial; margin-left:750px; margin-top:-30px; font-size:14px; } .description2 a{ color:#555; text-decoration:none; } .yaz{ color:white; } Javascript: // Input name.   • Create two semi-transparent images that when stacked produce the target image

    - by posfan12
Due to CSS limitations I am forced to stack to semi-transparent images on my website. I won't go into detail regarding the CSS since if I can get this question answered the problem is moot. Anyway, I would like to modify image A in the GIMP such that it will look like it did originally after being stacked on top of image B. Both image A and image B have their opacities set to 50%. Image B is a solid color throughout, whereas image A has some minor details such as a gradient. Here's what it looks like before image B is applied on top (and what it should look like in the end): [URL=http://s421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/SharkD2161/Support/Website/?action=view&current=website_testing_target_image.png][IMG]http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/SharkD2161/Support/Website/th_website_testing_target_image.png[/IMG][/URL] Here's what it looks like after image B has been applied on top: [URL=http://s421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/SharkD2161/Support/Website/?action=view&current=website_testing_undesired_result.png][IMG]http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp292/SharkD2161/Support/Website/th_website_testing_undesired_result.png[/IMG][/URL] Thanks! • Simple html page using Bootstrap

    - by Athashri
    I am writing a simple HTML page using the Twitter Bootstrap. But the navbar and links are rendered as normal HTML on the browser. I have referred to multiple sites but the same steps are given everywhere. I am not sure where I am going wrong. Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <link rel= "stylesheet" href= "css/bootstrap.css" type="text/css"> <title> Bootstrap example</title> </head> <body> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.0/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="js/bootstrap.js"></script> <h1>Hello, world!</h1> <div class ="container"> <h1><a href="#">Bootstrap Site</a></h1> <div class="navbar"> <div class="navbar-inner"> <div class="container"> <ul class="nav"> <li class="active"><a href="#">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#">Projects</a></li> <li><a href="#">Services</a></li> <li><a href="#">Downloads</a></li> <li><a href="#">About</a></li> <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html>

  • Foreign key pointing to different tables

    - by Álvaro G. Vicario
I'm implementing a table per subclass design I discussed in a previous question. It's a product database where products can have very different attributes depending on their type, but attributes are fixed for each type and types are not manageable at all. I have a master table that holds common attributes: product_type ============ product_type_id INT product_type_name VARCHAR E.g.: 1 'Magazine' 2 'Web site' product ======= product_id INT product_name VARCHAR product_type_id INT -> Foreign key to product_type.product_type_id valid_since DATETIME valid_to DATETIME E.g. 1 'Foo Magazine' 1 '1998-12-01' NULL 2 'Bar Weekly Review' 1 '2005-01-01' NULL 3 'E-commerce App' 2 '2009-10-15' NULL 4 'CMS' 2 '2010-02-01' NULL ... and one subtable for each product type: item_magazine ============= item_magazine_id INT title VARCHAR product_id INT -> Foreign key to product.product_id issue_number INT pages INT copies INT close_date DATETIME release_date DATETIME E.g. 1 'Foo Magazine Regular Issue' 1 89 52 150000 '2010-06-25' '2010-06-31' 2 'Foo Magazine Summer Special' 1 90 60 175000 '2010-07-25' '2010-07-31' 3 'Bar Weekly Review Regular Issue' 2 12 16 20000 '2010-06-01' '2010-06-02' item_web_site ============= item_web_site_id INT name VARCHAR product_id INT -> Foreign key to product.product_id bandwidth INT hits INT date_from DATETIME date_to DATETIME E.g. 1 'The Carpet Store' 3 10 90000 '2010-06-01' NULL 2 'Penauts R Us' 3 20 180000 '2010-08-01' NULL 3 'Springfield Cattle Fair' 4 15 150000 '2010-05-01' '2010-10-31' Now I want to add some fees that relate to one specific item. Since there are very little subtypes, it's feasible to do this: fee === fee_id INT fee_description VARCHAR item_magazine_id INT -> Foreign key to item_magazine.item_magazine_id item_web_site_id INT -> Foreign key to item_web_site.item_web_site_id net_price DECIMAL E.g.: 1 'Front cover' 2 NULL 1999.99 2 'Half page' 2 NULL 500.00 3 'Square banner' NULL 3 790.50 4 'Animation' NULL 3 2000.00 I have tight foreign keys to handle cascaded editions and I presume I can add a constraint so only one of the IDs is NOT NULL. However, my intuition suggests that it would be cleaner to get rid of the item_WHATEVER_id columns and keep a separate table: fee_to_item =========== fee_id INT -> Foreign key to fee.fee_id product_id INT -> Foreign key to product.product_id item_id INT -> ??? But I can't figure out how to create foreign keys on item_id since the source table varies depending on product_id. Should I stick to my original idea?

  • Using an image as a border

    - by Tempname
I am working on an custom container and I need a border for this container. I have a 15x15 image that I am creating a 9-slice border skin with. The issue that I am having is that the border skin does not appear the way that I had hoped it would. Here is a ss of the skin in place. Ideally I should have a transparent box with a 5 pixel border around it. Here is my current testing code: CSS Code: Box { borderSkin: Embed(source="15x15.png", scaleGridLeft="5", scaleGridTop="5", scaleGridRight="10", scaleGridBottom="10"); } MXML Code: <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"> <mx:Style source="MainTest.css"/> <mx:Box id="tw" width="400" height="400"> </mx:Box> </mx:WindowedApplication>

  • Hide partial background repeat

Consider these simple CSS rules: jsFiddle div#container { width: 50%; height: 260px; background-image: url('Image.png'); background-repeat: repeat-x; }? The problem is that I only want full images. If there is not enough space for another duplicate, it should NOT be shown. I've never heard that CSS provides a rule for it. So how can I achieve it in JavaScript (jQuery already included)?

  • How to query multiple tables with multiple selects MySQL

    - by brybam
I'm trying to write a php function that gets all the basic food data(this part works fine in my code) Then grabs all the ingredients related to the ids of the selected items from the query before. Anyone have have any idea why my second array keeps coming back as false? I should be getting 1 array with the list of foods (this works) Then, the second one should be an array with all the ingredients for all the foods that were previously selected...then in my code im planning to work with the array and sort them with the proper foods based on the ids. function getFood($start, $limit) { $one = mysql_query("SELECT a.id, a.name, a.type, AVG(b.r) AS fra, COUNT(b.id) as tvotes FROM `foods` a LEFT JOIN `foods_ratings` b ON a.id = b.id GROUP BY a.id ORDER BY fra DESC, tvotes DESC LIMIT $start, $limit;"); $row = mysql_fetch_array($one); $qry = ""; foreach ($row as &$value) { $fid = $value['id']; $qry = $qry . • what is the best and valid way for cross browser min-height?

    - by metal-gear-solid
for #main-content I don't want to give any fix height because content can be long and short but if content is short then it should take minimum height 500px. i need compatibility in all browser. Is thery any w3c valid and cross browser way without using !important because i read !important should not be used In conclusion, don’t use the !important declaration unless you’ve tried everything else first, and keep in mind any drawbacks. If you do use it, it would probably make sense, if possible, to put a comment in your CSS next to any styles that are being overridden, to ensure better code maintainability. I tried to cover everything significant in relation to use of the !important declaration, so please offer comments if you think there’s anything I’ve missed, or if I’ve misstated anything, and I’ll be happy to make any needed corrections. http://www.impressivewebs.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-important-css-declaration/

  • IE6 extra padding on bottom

    - by Gian Basagre
    I have a div tag styled through CSS. I set the padding to 10px (padding:10px), it works just as I wanted in Firefox and IE7, but in IE6 it adds additional padding at the bottom (about 2-3px I think). Anyone has idea about what's happening here? [update] I just noticed this, the div tag I'm talking about has a background-image. When I removed the background-image, the extra padding on the bottom disappears. Any ideas? [another update, code sample] Here's the CSS applied to my div tag: .user-info{ margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 20px; padding: 10px; background-image: url("../img/user_panel_bg.png"); float:right; border: 1px #AAAAAA solid; font-size:12px; }

  • ASP.NET MVC4: How do I keep from having multiple identical results in my lookup tables

    - by sehummel
I'm new to ASP.NET so this may be an easy question. I'm seeding my database with several rows of dummy data. Here is one of my rows: new Software { Title = "Microsoft Office", Version = "2012", SerialNumber = "12346231434543", Platform = "PC", Notes = "Macs really rock!", PurchaseDate = "2011-12-04", Suite = true, SubscriptionEndDate = null, SeatCount = 0, SoftwareTypes = new List<SoftwareType> { new SoftwareType { Type="Suite" }}, Locations = new List<Location> { new Location { LocationName = "Paradise" }}, Publishers = new List<SoftwarePublisher> { new SoftwarePublisher { Publisher = "Microsoft" }}} But when I do this, a new row is created for each location, with the LocationName being set in each row like this. We only have two locations. How do I get it to create a LocationID property for the Software class and in my Locations class. Here is my Location class: public class Location { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(20)] public string LocationName { get; set; } public virtual Software Software { get; set; } } I have this line in my Software class to reference this table: public virtual List<Location> Locations { get; set; } Again, what I want when I am done is a Locations table with two entries, and a LocationID field in my Software table. How do I do this?
