• Attaining credit card data

  I've read the many posts on this site that say we are not allowed to store cc numbers if we are not pci-compliant. But, I'm wondering if it is possible to send a CC number through a form to an email address? Would that be still infringing on the standards? The reason I ask is that a local business owner wants to retrieve a number through a form on his website, so he can manually enter the cc info on his end. I'm assuming the only way to properly get a credit card number is to setup a merchant account? What's the best way to get a cc number without calling the actual customer? I'm thinking email is a bad idea as well.

• No sound while playing multi-media in Ubuntu 12.04 for XPS15

  I have an XPS15 laptop, core i5, 8GB ram. Whenever I login my laptop I here the startup bongo sound. But my sound system just doesn't play anything, may it be a short audio clip or a movie.   I have AMD Radeon HD 4850, with the latest drivers. I just dont get several things, what is x.org? What is FGLRX? Also, what is RandR? And why in the info section of the control centre it says Catalyst version is 12.6, but Catalyst control centre is 2.14, what is the difference between Catalyst and Catalyst control centre? Also, why is the Driver packaging version 8.98 while the Driver package says 12.6? I am extremely confused! As well as in the installer, what is the difference between choosing "Install Driver 8.98 on X.Org 6.9 or later" and "Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package"?

• How to add a subclass to a viewcontroller in storyboard

  Here's what I've created I created a view controller element (in storyboard) I created a new viewcontroller .h and .m file Here's my issue Can't seem to figure out how to get the content that I've added to the .m file to show up on the view controller element in the storyboard once the app is launched and the selection for that view controller element is made in the iPhone simulator. Although I am able to see content that is already added to a .m file on the home screen and activity screen when the selection is made in the iPhone simulator. Hope that makes sense, if not please ask and I'll be more than happy to provide more info.

• not booting from usb or cd

  I am trying to install linux on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite C6550-S5200. I did it once but something happened so I removed it then I had to destroy all data on hard drive so now I have nothing on it. Well I got a iso file burned to a CD and to a flash drive. With the flash drive I get. SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 4.06-pre7 Copyright (C) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al With the CD it will start booting it but somewhere loading it up, the dots turn all orange and stay that way and my CD drive turns quiet. Oh and some more info the images work because I tried loading them up on another pc and it worked just fine.

  I have a Traktor Audio 2 DJ USB sound card (the first version of what it's now called simply Traktor Audio 2) The problem in settings it only sees one output, when there should be two (I need that for Mixxx etc.) Also I want to be able set the sample rate to one of these: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz or at least check which one is set. Additionally if possible setting the latency would be an advantage.   I own a Dell Latitude E6520 with an Intel CPU (Core i7 2720QM). • Algorithm for creating spheres?

  Does anyone have an algorithm for creating a sphere proceduraly with la amount of latitude lines, lo amount of longitude lines, and a radius of r? I need it to work with Unity, so the vertex positions need to be defined and then, the triangles defined via indexes (more info). EDIT I managed to get the code working in unity. But I think I might have done something wrong. When I turn up the detailLevel, All it does is add more vertices and polygons without moving them around. Did I forget something?

• Recover files from a SATA drive from USB

  I've damaged the drive I had in my windows laptop and now I want to try to recover as many files as possible. I know very little about linux though. I have Ubuntu 10.04. I have a docking station for the drive and it is connected to my linux machine. The drive appears in disk utility. Unfortunately, this is where I have no idea where to proceed. Any help is appreciated and I can provide more info if needed.

• Great User Group if based near Gloucester + Links from Entity Framework 4.0 session

  I had a really fun evening doing “my final” EF 4.0 session last night (26th May 2010) at GL.NET based out of Gloucester (although secretly I made it into a IronRuby and Windows Azure session). They are a great crowd and Jimmy makes for a fantastic host + it is a very nice venue (Symantec offices in Gloucester, lots of parking, good room etc) + free pizza + free SWAG + trip to pub afterwards (the topics were very varied!). What more could you ask for? The next session is June 16th and will be on multi-tenanted ASP.NET MVC and comes highly recommended.   I am a relatively new Ubuntu user and I am having some difficulty mounting my external 2TB HDD. When I first installed Linux my external HDD was working just fine, however, it has stopped working and I have a lot of important files on there that I need. Before my HDD would automatically mount and no worries. • Yandex frequently replaces page names with ampersands

  The Yandex spider is a frequent visitor to one of the sites I manage. On ocassion it replaces the page name with two ampersands and a space. So if the page is: /mypage.aspx?param=value then it will try and crawl it as: /&& ?param=value Any idea why it is doing this? [EDIT] If I remember correctly the IP that this "mistake" is coming from is based in California and not Russia. I believe that they crawl US sites from a US based IP address. Not sure if that helps. • Video crashes with 10.10

  I have installed both the 64bit and 32 bit versions of 10.10 on my Compaq Presario PC. I first installed the 64 bit version of the OS.The video often crashed when switching user. It also went haywire occasionally when I visited some web-sites. I read that there may be some problems with the 64 bit OS. So I installed the 32 bit version on another disk. This version seemed even less well behaved. HP's model number for the computer is SR1838NX. The hardware is listed at http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00628274&lang=en&cc=us&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=1841793&prodTypeId=12454&printver=true#A0 I think the important info is that the chip set is "ATI Radeon Xpress 200" and the processor is "Athlon 64 (S) 3700+ 2.2 GHz" Has anyone else had video problems with similar machines? • Unable to mount 1TB USB external HDD - Error

  Hi, I'm getting an error when I plug in my 1TB USB external HDD, the wierd thing about this is that it was working fine before and I've been using it for about a couple of months now. yesterday I compressed one of the folders which had about 120GB of data but the compression failed after an hour and I decided to unmount the drive and shut everything down. • How do I set PATH variables for all users on a server?

  I just finished installing LaTeX for my company's Ubuntu server that we all SSH into to use. At the end of the install it says this: Add /usr/local/texlive/2010/texmf/doc/man to MANPATH, if not dynamically determined. Add /usr/local/texlive/2010/texmf/doc/info to INFOPATH. Most importantly, add /usr/local/texlive/2010/bin/x86_64-linux to your PATH for current and future sessions. So, my question is simply: How do I do this so that these variables are set for all users on the system? (And yes, I have sudo permissions). Thanks in advance to any and all responses I receive.

• What camera to choose for using with JMF (Java Media Framework)

  For the past 2-3 weeks I've been searching for different ways to implement custom video streaming and in more general video capturing and manipulating, going through DVR-cards, Video Capture Cards and stuff like that. Somehow JMF was able to stay out of my sight for all this time, but since I find out about it I'm more and more sure that this is a comfortable level for me to start playing around with video and stuff. One major topic that occurs to me while searching for more info was the presence of many posts where people were complaining about the fact that any particular camera ( most of the time I think they mean web cameras) doesn't work with JMF. Even though there are a lot of different cameras (not necessarily a web cam) that are not that expensive I want to play it safe and buy one that is proven to work well with the JMF. Also due to lack of experience maybe this is irrelevant but since I'll buy the camera mostly for learning and experimenting I want to have the maximum freedom possible to mess with different features, options and so on.

  I love Ubuntu, and as I am searching the internet, I am finding that some questions I have have not been answered yet. One of them is if there is a preferred way to set up a virtual server. I look through the Ubuntu Software Center, but found nothing from the search "Virtual Server" I then searched the internet and found lots of posts to trouble-shoot VMWare virtual servers. So, like a good researcher I looked in the Software center for VMWare. Sure enough I found "user agent" and "view open client". I didn't get sufficient info from the software center. And searching the website only left me scratching my head. I want to install Ubuntu Server Edition. I already have a server, but am cautious "trying out" things on it. So a virtual server sounds like what I need.

GRUB console before i could take some action) and i reinstalled the same version form USB stick. I had ubuntu installed in ext4 file system and I am also having the same filesystem in the same hard disk on different drive. When I try to access my previous filesystem, i get error Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda6, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I had some important files in the previous volume, I don't know how to retrieve them. • Verifying Office 2010 SP1 Installation

  So you downloaded and installed SP1, but now you want to verify that SP1 actually installed! Looking at Outlook's Help Screen under Help->About, it isn't readily apparent that SP1 is installed. Like me, you probably expected to see 14.1.something. Perhaps 14.0.something SP1, right? If you click on that "Additional Version and Copyright Information", another window will pop up and show you a bit more useful info (if you don't have the version numbers committed to memory) That window *does* give us that comforting SP1, and now we can determine that if you have Office 14.1.6023.1000 (and beyond) you are indeed runnning Office 2010 SP1!
