  • Execute Command Line Java program in background

    - by Mark Szymanski
Is it possible to execute a Java program in the background so the user can execute other commands in front of it? For instance, here is how the console might look for said program: $ myProgram (executes program) Program Started! (output from myProgram) $ (the user can enter another UNIX command while myProgram is still running) Thanks in advance!

  • Loading a ConfigurationSection with a required child ConfigurationElement with .Net configuration fr

    - by Vadim Rybak
I have a console application that is trying to load a CustomConfigurationSection from a web.config file. The custom configuration section has a custom configuration element that is required. This means that when I load the config section, I expect to see an exception if that config element is not present in the config. The problem is that the .NET framework seems to be completely ignoring the isRequired attribute. So when I load the config section, I just creates an instance of the custom configuration element and sets it on the config section. My question is, why is this happening? I want the GetSection() method to fire a ConfigurationErrors exception since a required element is missing from the configuration. Here is how my config section looks. public class MyConfigSection : ConfigurationSection { [ConfigurationProperty("MyConfigElement", IsRequired = true)] public MyConfigElement MyElement { get { return (MyConfigElement) this["MyConfigElement"]; } } } public class MyConfigElement : ConfigurationElement { [ConfigurationProperty("MyAttribute", IsRequired = true)] public string MyAttribute { get { return this["MyAttribute"].ToString(); } } } Here is how I load the config section. class Program { public static Configuration OpenConfigFile(string configPath) { var configFile = new FileInfo(configPath); var vdm = new VirtualDirectoryMapping(configFile.DirectoryName, true, configFile.Name); var wcfm = new WebConfigurationFileMap(); wcfm.VirtualDirectories.Add("/", vdm); return WebConfigurationManager.OpenMappedWebConfiguration(wcfm, "/"); } static void Main(string[] args) { try{ string path = @"C:\Users\vrybak\Desktop\Web.config"; var configManager = OpenConfigFile(path); var configSection = configManager.GetSection("MyConfigSection") as MyConfigSection; MyConfigElement elem = configSection.MyElement; } catch (ConfigurationErrorsException ex){ Console.WriteLine(ex.ToString()); } } Here is what my config file looks like. <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <configSections> <section name="MyConfigSection" type="configurationFrameworkTestHarness.MyConfigSection, configurationFrameworkTestHarness" /> </configSections> <MyConfigSection> </MyConfigSection> The wierd part is that if I open the config file and load the section 2 times in a row, I will get the exception that I expect. var configManager = OpenConfigFile(path); var configSection = configManager.GetSection("MyConfigSection") as MyConfigSection; configManager = OpenConfigFile(path); configSection = configManager.GetSection("MyConfigSection") as MyConfigSection; If I use the code above, then the exception will fire and tell me that MyConfigElement is required. The question is Why is it not throwing this exception the first time??

  • Ruby on Rails 2.3.5: update_all failing on ActiveRecord

    - by randombits
I'm trying to update a collection of records in my database using ActiveRecord's update_all. Enter script/console. MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1", :limit => 1000) ActiveRecord thinks limit is a column, says it's unknown and throws an exception. According to the documentation though, my syntax looks sane. This is RoR 2.3.5. When doing MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1") alone, it works just fine.

  • Executing F# scripts

    - by chuanose
I'm trying to practice my F# by writing small console scripts in F# in place of my usual method of writing shell scripts/batch files. I currently run them using "fsi script.fsx [args]". Is there a way I can associate these fsx files with fsi so that I can run them directly like "script.fsx [args]"?

  • jquery - loading inline javascript via AJAX

    - by yaya3
I have thrown together a quick prototype to try and establish a few very basic truths regarding what inline JavaScript can do when it is loaded with AJAX: index.html <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> $('p').css('color','white'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FIRST but is "undefined" $(document).ready(function(){ $('#ajax-loaded-content-wrapper').load('loaded-by-ajax.html', function(){ $('p').css('color','grey'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS LAST (as expected) }); $('p').css('color','purple'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS SECOND }); </script> <p>Content not loaded by ajax</p> <div id="ajax-loaded-content-wrapper"> </div> </body> </html> loaded-by-ajax.html <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> <script type="text/javascript"> $('p').css('color','yellow'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS THIRD $(document).ready(function(){ $('p').css('color','pink'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FOURTH }); </script> <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('p').css('color','blue'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS FIFTH }); $('p').css('color','green'); alert($('p').css('color')); // DISPLAYS SIX </script> <p>Some content loaded by ajax</p> Notes: a) All of the above (except the first) successfully change the colour of all the paragraphs (in firefox 3.6.3). b) I've used alert instead of console.log as console is undefined when called in the 'loaded' HTML. Truths(?): $(document).ready() does not treat the 'loaded' HTML as a new document, or reread the entire DOM tree including the loaded HTML, it is pointless inside AJAX loaded content JavaScript that is contained inside 'loaded' HTML can effect the style of existing DOM nodes One can successfully use the jQuery library inside 'loaded' HTML to effect the style of existing DOM nodes One can not use the firebug inside 'loaded' HTML can effect the existing DOM (proven by Note a) Am I correct in deriving these 'truths' from my tests (test validity)? If not, how would you test for these?

  • Get audience members using web services in SharePoint

    - by Robert MacLean
Using the SharePoint API (the one with the assemblies you add, but requires you to run on the server) it is easy to get audience members: using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { ServerContext svrContext = ServerContext.GetContext(site); AudienceManager audManager = new AudienceManager(svrContext); foreach (Audience audience in audManager.Audiences) { ArrayList people = audience.GetMembership(); if (people != null) { foreach (UserInfo user in people) { Console.WriteLine("send email to " + user.Email); } } } However I can not find a web service to do the same thing?

  • Pure Actionscript 3 Adobe Air Application main class constructor not being called

    - by SilverCode
I'm writing an Air application using only Actionscript, and Flex3 SDK as the compiler. Everything compiles and runs fine under adl, but when the final air file is built and installed, the main class is never initialized. For instance: package { import flash.display.Sprite; public class main extends Sprite { public function main() { trace("Init"); } } } When run under ADL, "Init" will be output to the console, but when installed and run, nothing happens (the constructor for class main is never called).

Why?

  • Java REPL shell

    - by Don
Hi, I'm looking for a REPL shell that I can use to test out snippets of Java code. Either a desktop app, or a web app (like the Groovy web console). Ideally, commonly used Java packages like: java.io.* java.util.* should be automatically imported, so that I can copy and paste code from a class without having to add a bunch of imports. Does such a thing exist? Thanks, Donal

Hi Folks, since yesterday is my app not rendering the xfbml Tags (name and picture). Iam using the new JavaScript SDK inside an Canvas-Iframe Application. Firebug tells me the following inside the console: Get: http://0.channel20.facebook.com/x/3332504234/true/p_1348362044=0 And after a while: XFBML tags failed to render in 30000ms. Does someone has the same problems, or know why this happens?

  • Benchmarking a particular method in Objective-C

    - by Jasconius
I have a critical method in an Objective-C application that I need to optimize as much as possible. I first need to take some easy benchmarks on this one single method so I can compare my progress as I optimize. What is the easiest way to track the execution time of a given method in, say, milliseconds, and print that to console.

  • C# Begin/EndReceive - how do I read large data?

    - by ryeguy
When reading data in chunks of say, 1024, how do I continue to read from a socket that receives a message bigger than 1024 bytes until there is no data left? Should I just use BeginReceive to read a packet's length prefix only, and then once that is retrieved, use Receive() (in the async thread) to read the rest of the packet? Or is there another way? edit: I thought Jon Skeet's link had the solution, but there is a bit of a speedbump with that code. The code I used is: public class StateObject { public Socket workSocket = null; public const int BUFFER_SIZE = 1024; public byte[] buffer = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE]; public StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); } public static void Read_Callback(IAsyncResult ar) { StateObject so = (StateObject) ar.AsyncState; Socket s = so.workSocket; int read = s.EndReceive(ar); if (read > 0) { so.sb.Append(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(so.buffer, 0, read)); if (read == StateObject.BUFFER_SIZE) { s.BeginReceive(so.buffer, 0, StateObject.BUFFER_SIZE, 0, new AyncCallback(Async_Send_Receive.Read_Callback), so); return; } } if (so.sb.Length > 0) { //All of the data has been read, so displays it to the console string strContent; strContent = so.sb.ToString(); Console.WriteLine(String.Format("Read {0} byte from socket" + "data = {1} ", strContent.Length, strContent)); } s.Close(); } Now this corrected works fine most of the time, but it fails when the packet's size is a multiple of the buffer. The reason for this is if the buffer gets filled on a read it is assumed there is more data; but the same problem happens as before. A 2 byte buffer, for exmaple, gets filled twice on a 4 byte packet, and assumes there is more data. It then blocks because there is nothing left to read. The problem is that the receive function doesn't know when the end of the packet is. This got me thinking to two possible solutions: I could either have an end-of-packet delimiter or I could read the packet header to find the length and then receive exactly that amount (as I originally suggested). There's problems with each of these, though. I don't like the idea of using a delimiter, as a user could somehow work that into a packet in an input string from the app and screw it up. It also just seems kinda sloppy to me. The length header sounds ok, but I'm planning on using protocol buffers - I don't know the format of the data. Is there a length header? How many bytes is it? Would this be something I implement myself? Etc.. What should I do?

  • Mono vs .NET Interop curiosity

    - by Olaseni
I'm developing a huge console application for Unix using C# via Mono. If I develop that app using M Visual Studio and .NET 3.5 and I carefully neglect to use win32 specific API calls, should I expect that application to automatically work in my Unix box? Or should I just get MonoDevelop and go the Mono way?

  • node.js / socket.io, cookies only working locally

    - by Ben Griffiths
    I'm trying to use cookie based sessions, however it'll only work on the local machine, not over the network. If I remove the session related stuff, it will however work just great over the network... You'll have to forgive the lack of quality code here, I'm just starting out with node/socket etc etc, and finding any clear guides is tough going, so I'm in n00b territory right now. Basically this is so far hacked together from various snippets with about 10% understanding of what I'm actually doing... The error I see in Chrome is: socket.io.js:1632GET http://192.168.0.6:8080/socket.io/1/?t=1334431940273 500 (Internal Server Error) Socket.handshake ------- socket.io.js:1632 Socket.connect ------- socket.io.js:1671 Socket ------- socket.io.js:1530 io.connect ------- socket.io.js:91 (anonymous function) ------- /socket-test/:9 jQuery.extend.ready ------- jquery.js:438 And in the console for the server I see: debug - served static content /socket.io.js debug - authorized warn - handshake error No cookie My server is: var express = require('express') , app = express.createServer() , io = require('socket.io').listen(app) , connect = require('express/node_modules/connect') , parseCookie = connect.utils.parseCookie , RedisStore = require('connect-redis')(express) , sessionStore = new RedisStore(); app.listen(8080, '192.168.0.6'); app.configure(function() { app.use(express.cookieParser()); app.use(express.session( { secret: 'YOURSOOPERSEKRITKEY', store: sessionStore })); }); io.configure(function() { io.set('authorization', function(data, callback) { if(data.headers.cookie) { var cookie = parseCookie(data.headers.cookie); sessionStore.get(cookie['connect.sid'], function(err, session) { if(err || !session) { callback('Error', false); } else { data.session = session; callback(null, true); } }); } else { callback('No cookie', false); } }); }); var users_count = 0; io.sockets.on('connection', function (socket) { console.log('New Connection'); var session = socket.handshake.session; ++users_count; io.sockets.emit('users_count', users_count); socket.on('something', function(data) { io.sockets.emit('doing_something', data['data']); }); socket.on('disconnect', function() { --users_count; io.sockets.emit('users_count', users_count); }); }); My page JS is: jQuery(function($){ var socket = io.connect('http://192.168.0.6', { port: 8080 } ); socket.on('users_count', function(data) { $('#client_count').text(data); }); socket.on('doing_something', function(data) { if(data == '') { window.setTimeout(function() { $('#target').text(data); }, 3000); } else { $('#target').text(data); } }); $('#textbox').keydown(function() { socket.emit('something', { data: 'typing' }); }); $('#textbox').keyup(function() { socket.emit('something', { data: '' }); }); });

    - by Matt H
Hi, I'm trying to use the SDL_Image library and I've added the .so to the link libraries list for my project (I'm using Code::Blocks, by the way). After doing this, when I go to compile, I get this error: Linking console executable: bin/Debug/ttfx /usr/lib32/libSDL_image-1.2.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format What does this mean and how can I get it working? Thanks!
