  I'm curious if there's a way to enable the more fun UI features in Ubuntu 11.04 that were available in previous versions. The effects I'm most curious about is the wobbly windows and the alt tab program switcher that looked like a rolodex. Those things were delightful. I've been reading about the compiz tool and since I'm a pretty noob user, I don't think I want to risk destroying my desktop for a chance to get these effects back. Any help would be appreciated. • How to have an Arduino wait until it receives data over serial?

  So I've wired up a little robot with a sound shield and some sensors. I'm trying to write a sketch that will let check the sensors. What I'd like for it to do is print out a little menu over serial, wait until the user sends a selection, jump to the function that matches their selection, then (once the function is done) jump back and print the menu again. Here's what I've written, but I'm not a that good of a coder, so it doesn't work.   I'm writing a simple OpenGL application in Java that implements the Monte Carlo method for estimating the value of PI. The method is pretty easy. Simply, you draw a circle inside a unit square and then plot random points over the scene. Now, for each point that is inside the circle you increment the counter for in points. After determining for all the random points wither they are inside the circle or not you divide the number of in points over the total number of points you have plotted all multiplied by 4 to get an estimation of PI. It goes something like this PI = (inPoints / totalPoints) * 4. This is because mathematically the ratio of a circle's area to a square's area is PI/4, so when we multiply it by 4 we get PI. My problem doesn't lie in the algorithm itself; however, I'm having problems trying to plot the points as they are being generated instead of just plotting everything at once when the program finishes executing. I want to give the application a sense of real-time display where the user would see the points as they are being plotted. I'm a beginner at OpenGL and I'm pretty sure there is a multi-threading feature built into it. Non the less, I tried to manually create my own thread. Each worker thread plots one point at a time.   The AJAX SlideShowExtender is pretty useful. It does what it says and works without much fuss. There was one trick I needed it to perform that I could not find natively within the control. That was to set the slide’s current index. With a little JavaScript however I could make the control do what I wanted. The example below assumes a few things. First you already have a SlideShowExtender setup and working (or see this post). Second this SlideShowExtender is on a page all by itself so the index to set the slide to is passed in the URL. The scenario I had was this SSE was showing full images, the index was passed from another page that had a SSE showing thumbnails.
