• MVC-3 User-Image Management - Best Practices

  Hello Experts, Developing using MVC-3, Razor, C# Been searching around and cannot find advice I'm looking for. My site will contain user-uploaded images (possibly a high number). What is the best practice for managing these pictures (placement, breakdown into sub-folders, etc...)? Where do I place them that will prevent them from getting accidentally blown away if I republish my site periodically? If there are any good articles or blog posts, that would be helpful. Also, any advice/tips anyone wants to add would be great. Thanks for your time! Rob EDIT Also would like to know what people do to prevent hot linking.

• Android pattern for activity "flows"

  I'm developing an android app that has a bunch of screens (activities) that are supposed to have "continue" and "back" buttons at the top. Can you tell me the right pattern for implementing this? I've seen some iPhone apps that have this but Android apps usually don't (I think partly because the back button is part of the phone). I found a post online about an Activity class that has "sub activities" which kind of seems like what I want to do, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler solution or pattern for creating flows like this (in which several activities are linked with continue/back buttons).

  I have the following code to create and apply a few styles for a custom TextArea in ActionScript 3. public class MyCustomTextArea extends TextArea { override protected function createChildren():void { super.createChildren(); this.styleSheet.setStyle("sup", { display: "inline", fontFamily: "ArialSup", fontSize:"12"}); this.styleSheet.setStyle("sub", { display: "inline", fontFamily: "ArialSub", fontSize:"12"}); this.setStyle("fontFamily", "Arial"); } } I have two problems with this code. this.styleSheet is always null when I create an instance of the class. If this.styleSheet is initialized to new StyleSheet() to avoid this issue, then the TextArea instance does not seem to recognize any of the HTML tags that can be used with the htmlText property. Can anyone help in fixing these two issues? Thanks.

  Hi! I would like to create a cache for my php pages on my site. I did find too many solutions but what I want is a script which can generate an HTML page from my database ex: I have a page for categories which grabs all the categories from the DB, so the script should be able to generate an HTML page of the sort: my-categories.html. then if I choose a category I should get a my-x-category.html page and so on and so forth for other categories and sub categories. I can see that some web sites have got URLs like: wwww.the-web-site.com/the-page-ex.html even though they are dynamic. thanks a lot for help

  Using Visual Studio 2008, I need to create a custom web form that when picked acts like the web content form, by providing a dialog that lets you pick a master page. I have looked through the webform.zip template and thought I had a clue, but trying different combinations has baffled me as it either doesn't appear or doesn't work. Also when you set the project type to Web and sub project type to CSharp it doesn't appear, so I don't know if this part of the cause, because I would of hoped that the SupportsMasterPage element would of caused this dialog to appear, if it is a web item, but no luck. Frown Any ideas? p.s. I have used my googling resources to the maximum so unsure what to do.

  I'm facing an issue using eval function. Indeed I have some function name inside a SQL database, my goal is to execute those functions within perl (after retrieve in SQL). • Why doesn't Perl threading work when I call readdir beforehand?

  Whenever I call readdir before I create a thread, I get an error that looks like this: perl(2820,0x7fff70c33ca0) malloc: * error for object 0x10082e600: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug Abort trap What's strange is that it happens when I call readdir before I create a thread (i.e. readdir is not called in any concurrent code). I don't even use the results from readdir, just making the call to it seems to screw things up. When I get rid of it, things seem to work fine. Some example code is below: opendir(DIR, $someDir); my @allFiles = readdir(DIR); close(DIR); my $thread = threads-create(\&sub1); $thread-join(); sub sub1 { print "in thread\n" }

• .htaccess subdomain redirect problem

  Hi, I have a website let's say www.example.com and I have a subdomain something.example.com Both main domain and sub domain are pointing to directory "public_html" I have .htaccess on root which redirects any URL without www to www. For e.g. if user enters example.com then he will be redirected to www.example.com If user enters example.com/mypage.html then he will be redirected to www.example.com/mypage.html Now the problem is this is also affecting my subdomain. Because if someone enters something.example.com/visit.html then he is redirect to www.example.com/visit.html I don't want this! If user enters subdomain then I don't want to redirected to www domain. This is what I have in my .htacces file RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.stackoverflow.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.stackoverflow.com/$1 [R=301,L] Can you please tell me what should I do to solve above problem? • exposing subcontrols from the custom widget plugin in QT

  I am using QT 4.3. I have created one custom widget plugin. I could be able to show it in the desiner tool box as well as use it on the form with no problem. This custom widget internally holds QGroupBox, QLabel, QTextEdit. Now I want to apply the styles to individual componets of this custom widget. I want to expose these internal conrols as sub-control and style them. This would be similar to tear subcontrol of QTabWidget. In style sheet we can refer it as QTabWidget::tear... Is there any way by which I can do similar thing with my custom widget?

  Suppose that I am creating a Java project with the following classes com.bharani.ClassOne com.bharani.ClassTwo com.bharani.helper.HelperOne com.bharani.helper.support.HelperTwo with files put immediately under the folder 'src' src/ClassOne.java src/ClassTwo.java src/HelperOne.java src/HelperTwo.java and compile them using the command $ javac src/*.java -d classes (assuming that classes directory exists) The compiler compiles these files and put the class files in appropriate sub-directories inside the 'classes' directory like this classes/com/bharani/ClassOne.class classes/com/bharani/ClassTwo.class classes/com/bharani/helper/HelperOne.class classes/com/bharani/helper/support/HelperTwo.class Because the spec mandates that the classes should go inside appropriate directory structure. Fine. My question is this: When I use an IDE such as Eclipse or NetBeans, they create the directory structure for the source code directory ('src' directory here) also. Why is that? Is it mandatory? Or, is it just a convention? Thanks.

  Hi people, I have a tabbed application which then has a navigation controller. In each the navigation controller I an a table View Controller which obviously contains a table. I push a new table view controller from this one. I want to put a background to the table but can only add an image infront of the table. I think this may be because I am adding the sub view in the table view controller, but I don't seem to be able to add it anywhere else. Please could you help me, thanks.

  In order for a school project i need to create the following situation within one mysql query. The situation is as such, that a child's tags and a parent's tags need to be combined into one, and compared to a site's tags, depending on a few extra simple equals to lines. For this to happen I only see the option that the result of a subquery is combined with a sub query within that query, as such: SELECT tag.*, (SELECT group_concat(t1.id, ',', (SELECT group_concat(tag.id) FROM adcampaign INNER JOIN adcampaign_tag ON adcampaign.id = adcampaign_tag.adcampaign_id INNER JOIN tag ON adcampaign_tag.tag_id = tag.id WHERE adcampaign.id = 1)) FROM ad, ad_tag, tag AS t1 WHERE ad.id = ad_tag.ad_id AND ad_tag.tag_id = t1.id AND ad.adcampaign_id = 1 AND ad.agecategory_id = 1 AND ad.adsize_id = 1 AND ad.adtype_id = 1) as tags FROM tag WHERE tag.id IN tags But the IN comparison only returns the first result because now the tags aren't a list but a concanated string. Anyone got any suggestion on this? I really need a way to combine it into one array

• Where can I find soft-multiply and divide algorithms?

  I'm working on a micro-controller without hardware multiply and divide. I need to cook up software algorithms for these basic operations that are a nice balance of compact size and efficiency. My C compiler port will employ these algos, not the the C developers themselves. My google-fu is so far turning up mostly noise on this topic. Can anyone point me to something informative? I can use add/sub and shift instructions. Table lookup based algos might also work for me, but I'm a bit worried about cramming so much into the compiler's back-end...um, so to speak. Thanks!

  I realize that this is probably a duplicate, but I've been searching for an hour and I can't to get the syntax right. I have a sheet with several tables. There is at least one empty column and one empty row between one table to the other. I know the start row and start column of each table, and I know that each table has 3 columns. I don't know how many rows it has. I want to write a sub that receives: table start row table start column and copies the table into another sheet (let's say that the destination is sheet2 starting at A1). I know I can do it with a loop, but I suspect there is a better syntax right? (The main issue here is that I need to find the number of rows each table has) Thanks. Li

• Why does my regex fail when the number ends in 0?

  This is a really basic regex question but since I can't seem to figure out why the match is failing in certain circumstances I figured I'd post it to see if anyone else can point out what I'm missing. I'm trying to pull out the 2 sets of digits from strings of the form: 12309123098_102938120938120938 1321312_103810312032123 123123123_10983094854905490 38293827_1293120938129308 I'm using the following code to process each string: if($string && $string =~ /^(\d)+_(\d)+$/) { if(IsInteger($1) && IsInteger($2)) { print "success ('$1','$2')"; } else { print "fail"; } } Where the IsInterger() function is as follows: sub IsInteger { my $integer = shift; if($integer && $integer =~ /^\d+$/) { return 1; } return; } This function seems to work most of the time but fails on the following for some reason: 1287123437_1268098784380 1287123437_1267589971660 Any ideas on why these fail while others succeed?   When declaring an Array in PHP, the index's may be created out of order...I.e Array[1] = 1 Array[19] = 2 Array[4] = 3 My question. In creating an array like this, is the length 19 with nulls in between? If I attempted to get Array[3] would it come as undefined or throw an error? Also, how does this affect memory. Would the memory of 3 index's be taken up or 19?   Senario: Open an account in CRM 2011 beta and click on activities on the left navigation pane, you will now see activities of the selected account and now have two filter drop down lists on the top which allow you to view activities of the account or sub accounts of this account. Is this filter drop downs something customizable or is it a feature only available for system entities (like acitivity)? Is this functionality provided because Activity entity have N:1 relationship with Type of Behavior = System? can we provide the same or similar functionality by using Type of behavior = Parental!?!? • Access 2007: Dynamic SQL to be run when opening a report

  I'm trying to have some SQL execute when I open a report. This works fine when I try to match on a column that's an integer with an integer, but when I try to match on a "text" column, it keeps popping up a dialog asking for what you want to filter on. Here's a somple query: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_number = '444-444-4444' This is actually a sub-query I'm trying to use, but this is where the problem is. If I change it to this it works fine: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_id = 2 I put this in the OnOpen event and I'm assigning it to Me.RecordSource if that makes a difference. My goal here is to have a form accept query parameter(s) and have it open a report with the results. Any thoughts on why it wants to ask for a parameter vs. just running the query the way I have it?

  I am trying to set up error handling for a MS-Access application. The standard method to do this seems to be with an On Error statement in each subroutine/function. It seems simpler to me to use the Form_Error function to catch all the runtime errors in that form as opposed to an On Error statement for each sub/function called by an event on that form. (Obviously, for code in modules, there is no Form_Error function and therefore the only method is the On Error statement) What are the pros and cons of using On Error vs Form_Error?

• In MS Access is there a way to allow forms to update while maintaning Read Only

  I have several forms linked tables via queries. The form pull data such as sales and ratios by selecting a product from the main's form's combo box. I am however having to issues: 1- I would ultimately prefer the combo box to be a free entry; however by just entering in the box and hitting enter (not a button called “enter on a screen” which would initiate recalcs, just normal enter), while it does bring the new information in sub-forms it also changes the information in the original table. If I make the table read only that it just doesn't allow the form to work by saying that the table is read only. 2- The same Read only issue occurs when another user with read only rights tries to use the database. I understand that ready only is functioning as intended, however I am wondering if there is way to make some functions work while disallowing the updating. I am unfortunately learning on the go, so go easy plz. Thank you
