• VirtualBox Ubuntu Server with DNS

  I just want to have a local server inside my VirtualBox that offers dns functionality like www.example.local = 127.0.0.1 . Host: Ubuntu 11.10, Guest: Ubuntu 10.10 On my server I can already ping www.example.local - so I configured my virtual host correctly. Question is, how can I address www.example.local from outside my VirtualBox? I searched Google and askubuntu and found dnsmasq. I installed dnsmasq on my server and followed all steps on help.ubuntu. On my host system I've set 192.168.178.91 to the list of dns servers (192.168.178.91 is the IP address of my local server which uses a bridged network adapter). Thing is, I still cannot ping (or connect to) my example.local virtual host. It gives me an unknown host response. How can I set up my DNS server correctly?

• Can&rsquo;t install Transport HUB in Exchange 2010

  When building my latest SharePoint 2010 demo virtual machines, I decided to try installing Exchange 2010 as well.  Now, I’m not an Exchange admin, but I thought “how hard can this be?”  Well, a little more than I thought. Pretty early during the install, I got an error saying that it couldn’t “install Transport HUB”.  I double checked that my VM was meeting all of the requirements, both hardware and software, and everything looked fine. After much researching, it turns out that the error was caused by not having IPv6 enabled on the network adapter inside the virtual machine.  I had turned it off because I thought I wouldn’t need it.  I guess Exchange 2010 does.

  I have a remote build-machine with Jenkins and I'm trying to run GUI application. In Jenkins I installed Xvnc plugin, which uses TightVNC Server, but each build has failed. • How do I set up a virtual network interface with its own IP address?

  I vaguely remember that it's possible to set up virtual network interfaces with their own IP addresses, using only one physical network connection. I can find a few guides on the internet that recommend setting these up in /etc/network/interfaces, but Ubuntu doesn't use this file. Therefore my question: What's the correct way of setting these up in recent versions of Ubuntu? As this is a laptop, and I need it to connect to all kinds of different networks, I want to keep the network manager and all its configuration. To be more clear: at the end of this, I want to have a new network interface (e.g. "eth42") with its own IP address, but using whatever is connected in network manager to send the actual packets. In NM, it should appear as if I just had a second ethernet adapter installed in my system.

• mythbuntu 12 - lirc device doesn't appear to even exist

  I'm trying to get a new installation of Mythbuntu working. So far, everything is OK except the remote. The sensor for the remote is on my Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1250. Any suggestions on how to fix or further diagnose this?

• MySQL - ODBC Data Connector

  Having previsouly installed and then configured MySQL, you may now need to install the ODBC Data Connector driver in order to connect to your MySQL database. Following the Splash screen the first thing to choose is the Setup Type for your installation.  As usual I chose custom so that I could see the components that were actually being installed.  In this case the custom set up screen allows you to choose to install the driver and the documentation. Finally you can complete the installation Assuming it completes okay you have now installed the MySQL ODBC driver. My intention for installing all these MySQL components is so that I can now attempt to get BizTalk 2009 talking to the MySQL database for a solution that I am currently working on.  For this I will next be looking at the Community ODBC Adapter.

• No signal to monitor after driver install

  After installing 10.10 I used Hardware Drivers (Jockey) to install the graphics driver v11.2 for my ATI HD 5770. After restarting to activate the driver all went well and the boot screen showed up but not like the normal one the text was rough on the edges and after the boot finished the screen turned black and no signal. I have found some forum discussions about that issue but no fix worked for me. I use a DVI to VGA adapter and I have a View Sonic E70F CRT monitor. PC specs CPU: Intel Q8300 2.5/4 GPU: ATI Powercolor HD5770 1GB MB: Gigabyte EP43-UD3L RAM: 4GB 1066 Kingston

• JPA and NoSQL using EclipseLink - MongoDB supported

  EclipseLink 2.4 has added JPA support for NoSQL databases, MongoDB and Oracle NoSQL are the first ones to make the cut. The support to other NoSQL database can be extended by adding a EclipseLink EISPlatform class and a JCA adapter. A Java class can be mapped to a NoSQL datasource using the @NoSQL annotation or <no-sql> XML element. Even a subset of JPQL and the Criteria API are supported, dependent on the NoSQL database's query support. The connection properties are specified in "persistence.xml". A complete sample showing how JPA annotations are mapping and using @NoSQL is explained here. The MongoDB-version of the source code can also be checked out from the SVN repository. EclipseLink 2.4 is scheduled to be released with Eclipse Juno in June 2012 and the complete set of supported features is described on their wiki. • Cannot control the fan on a Sony Vaio laptop

  I've got Sony Vaio laptop and my fan is on all the time, though the temperature on the video-adapter is always over 60°?. As I've googled, vaiofand does not support VPC-EA series. Is there anything I can do with that or I need another laptop? I'm using the following graphics card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] though the problem is not with the graphics card. I've mentioned its temperature as the highest (64°C now btw). Seems like the notebook is always overheated and I cannot control the fan speed to make it cooler. And yes, I'm using the proprietary driver ATI/AMD FGLRX graphics driver. I'm using Kubuntu 11.04.

• smartctl not returning on HBA that's secure-erasing a different drive

  Whenever I run smartctl -i /dev/sd* where * is a drive that is plugged into the same host bus adapter as another drive that is currently being erased with an hdparm secure erase command, the smart command will just 'hang' and not return (blocked) until the erasure of the other drive is finished. To make matters worse you can't cntrl-c out of it. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there another way to retrieve smart data from a drive, which doesn't block? I noticed that I can still use the udevadm command to retrieve the serial and model of the drive which is useful but doesn't appear to have any smart data. Any information relating to this matter is appreciated, especially if you can tell me another way to retrieve the S.M.A.R.T data that might work. Regards, Stuart

• Fan control on Acer Aspire One D255 netbook

  I have Ubuntu netbook edition on my Acer Aspire One D255 netbook and I notice that I always hear the fan working at 100% despite the actual temperature. I run the sensors command its only at 13c, theres no reason why the fan needs to be running this hard at that temp. root@adam-netbook:~# sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +13.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) I'm guessing I may need some drivers in order to interact with the fan? Does anyone have any experience with this? It also seems that "sensors" may not be all that accurate, the temperature never seems to fluctuate.

  I write SQL query every now and then, I could easily write them freehand, but sometimes I do create SQL queries using SQL Query Designers for various reason. (I wont start to enumerate them here and/or argue about their usefulness, so let's just say they are sometime useful.) Anyway, I currently use 2 Query Designers : SQL server management studio's Query Designer. Visual Studio 2010's Query Builder (must often within the Table adapter Query Configuration Wizard.) There's something I hate about those two (I don't know about the others), it's the way they throw away my Code formatting of SQL queries after an edit. Is there any way to configure something to automatically reformat the SQL output or is there any external tool/plug-in that I could use to do that job?

I have tried it informally and it works, thought there is a little lag between the drawing on the screen and the output, but it is not terrible. • IPSec Offload support in 82576GB controller for Linux

  Due to migration of servers to cloud computing, we bought several NICs that support mechanisms like SRIOV and VMDQ. Furthermore, as security risk was also a concern and we did not want to create more overhead on the processor, IPSec Offload support was essential. The model chosen was: Intel Gigabit ET2 Quad Port Svr Adptr. (With 82576GB controller): http://ark.intel.com/products/49187/intel-gigabit-et2-quad-port-server-adapter However, we were unable to configure IPSec Offload on Linux. We tried to test on another server we have, a Windows Server 2012 R2, but again without success. It seems that the driver for this controller is not available for windows server 2012 R2, and Linux. The test on windows would be only for verification purposes, we will not use this platform. Could someone confirm this lack of support for Linux?

I have an Intel Core I5-4430 based system with no extra graphics adapter (so it's using the on-board, integrated Intel Graphics HD that is part of the CPU), running Ubuntu 13.10. When running BOINC World Community Grid it says "No usable GPUs". When running a bitcoin mining program it says "No OpenCL devices". I searched the web, found two possible solutions - one was to use the Intel OpenCL driver for Xeon platforms, the other was to use the AMD driver. Tried both. I failed installing the Intel driver as there were too many prerequisites that I just didn't manage to install, and the AMD installation was quite fast to its size (it's 200MB, and took far less than a minute to install), but it didn't solve the problem. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong direction here, I'm not sure, but is there anyway I can utilize the advance features of my CPU for those distributed computation programs?
