• How to go about finding ad-hoc development work on the web?

  I'm wondering if its possible to find supplementary development work on line? I have some time available to me in the evenings and I thought it might be good to use it productively. It'd be great if there was a site that I could apply to do some ad-hoc coding for anyone who needs it. Something like 'I need a class that does XY & Z', and I could do that. Is there anything like this out there? Can somebody supply me with some info? Thanks

  I need to know how many days are involved in a date diff. \For example: <? $start = new DateTime('2014-06-29 14:00:00'); $ende = new DateTime('2014-07-02 05:45:00'); $diff = $start->diff($ende); echo $diff->format('%R'); echo $diff->days; ?> The above code echos +2 My desired result would be 4, because the 29th, 30th, 1st and 2nd of July are "touched". I have no idea to achieve that with the given functions. Coding a day-subtraction seems to bean open door for errors.

• Converting between square and rectangular pixel co-ordinates

  I'm new at using transforms and this type of math, and would appreciate some direction solving my coding problem. I'm writing in XCode for the iphone, and am working with CGraphics. Problem: In Xcode, I want to draw curves, lines and so on it's screen of of square pixels. Then convert those points, as close as possible, into non-square pixel sysem. For example if the original coordinate system is 500 x 500 pixels that are displayed on square screen of 10 by 10 inchs I draw a round circle with the circle formula. It looks round, and all is well. Now, I draw the same circle on a second 10 x 10 inch screen that is 850 pixels by 500 pixels. Without changing the coordinates, the same circle formual displays something that looks like an egg. How can I draw the circle on the second screen in a different coordinate system? And in addition, I need to access the set of points x,y system individually. s

  Was wondering if anyone could help me with creating a pseudocode for how to go about dividing n-bit binary integers. Here is what I'm thinking could possibly work right now, could someone correct this if I'm wrong: divide (x,y) if x=0: return (0,0) //(quotient, remainder) (q,r) = divide(floor(x/2), y) q=2q, r=2r if x is odd: r = r+1 if r >= y: r = r-y, q = q+1 return (q,r) Would you guys say that this general pseudocode algorithm would accomplish the intended task of dividing n-bit numbers or am I missing something in my psuedocode before I start coding up something that's wrong?

• Should I be using libraries if I'm trying to learn how to program?

  I have been programming "a lot" in the past few months and at first I was trying to find the "easyest" language. Fortunately I realized that it's not about the language, it's about learning HOW to code. I ran into the Stanford lectures online (programming methodology) and I watched them all (around 23 hours total) awhile ago. Then I got into Java ME and programmed about 28.47% of a mobile RPG game (only around 2k lines of code). I feel like I learned a lot from those two experiences compared to previous ones but now that I'm moving into flash/actionscript 3.0 development and I'm finding myself learning like I did when I first started with PHP. I'm not really getting whats under the hood kind of. I'm finding myself using libraries to speed up development time which doesn't seem like a bad thing BUT I personally do not know how to write the libraries myself off hand. So should I be coding everything myself or is it ok to use libraries when you don't even know how to code them?

The problem is that I like to have the following format on html page for better readability. <div> <% if (1 == 1) { %> Hello <% } else { %> World <% } %> </div> As you can guess, whenever you type '}' or ';' or etc, visual studio try to do the auto format and change to the following format <div> <% if (1 == 1) { %> Hello <% } else { %> World <% } %> </div> The question is "Is it possible to disable auto formatting just only for HTML pages on VS2010? (NOT for C# code, I still like to have auto formatting for C# pages)"

  I have two classes, Tag and Hardware, defined with a simple parent-child relationship (see the full definition at the end). • Adding interfaces that won't be actually used

  I currently have two interfaces(that I'll name here IA and IB): interface IA { int Width; int Height; ... } interface IB { int Width; int Height; ... } that share the same two properties: they both have a Width and a Height property. I was thinking if there is any point in defining an IMatrix interface containing a Width and Height properties: interface IMatrix { int Width; int Height; } The thing is that although they share both the same properties, I won't make use of polymorphism with IMatrix in any of my coding: i.e., there won't by any situation where I'll want to use an IMatrix, I'll just want to use IA and IB. Adding an IMatrix seems more like over-engineering than other thing, but I'd like to ask you guys what your opinion is on the matter. Thanks

  Starting to use PC-Lint on an existing code base (fear and trepidation). One thing that it complains about is the following: class IBatch { public: virtual void StartBatch() =0; virtual int CommitBatch() =0; }; Which when another class derives from this to use it like an interface base class 'IBatch' has no destructor So, the question: when you create Interface classes like the above, do you always include a virtual destructor? Why? (is it a style or a coding error?)

• Utilizing a third party application for GitHub in a django project

  I'm trying to use a third party application located here: git://github.com/Star2Billing/django-audiofield.git I'm using Aptana Studio as my IDE. I created my project and then I clicked on the project and imported the app from the github location. It looked like it imported. I wanted to check that it imported properly before beginning any real coding so I performed manage.py validate. I got a message that stated: "No module named audiofield". I added the app to my Installed Apps settings and followed the installation instructions. I'm not sure if I'm importing it incorrectly. Also, I'm using virtualenv in Aptana. I'm not sure if this may have added to the problem. Please help.

  I would like to edit the ASP.NET MVC templates for Visual Studio so that any new action or controller created has a specific piece of code within it by default. • Extendable accessing of sqlite database on android platform

  Hi, I am fairly new to the android sdk and databases and have been searching for an answer to this quite some time. I am trying to build an app which has multiple tables within a database. e.g. one for weapons, armours etc. However, my DatabaseManager class which handles all of my table creating, DatabaseHelper inner class and populating of data is creating for an extremely large class requiring high maintenance. Every time I would like to add or remove a table column I need to change quite a few areas of code, - Every reference to the addition of a row in that table with data - The method that the above calls - The method returning all of the database rows - The code in the helper class creating the table - Any specific update methods My question is this: Surely there must be some better way of coding this system, maybe using a database isn't the best way to go, or am i just not used to such large classes having only learned java at university and my largest class consisting of a mere 400-600 lines of code. I've done the simple 'god-mode' and 'unlimited money' things, but I want to do alot more than that. I don't know 2 things: 1) Where should I use (within component class!) the methods for drawing, like FillRect or PolyLine? In OnPaint handler that I should define and map it in MESSAGE MAP? Will it (OnPaint handler) be called from OnPaint handler of the dialog of the application or where from? 2)How to connect the component, once it is made, to the test application, which will for example be dialog based? Using bloody associative arrays for so long in other languages have turned me nice and spoiled. :P My problem is simple: I'm storing a set of objects, each containing a string and a number, in a list. I have been using public properties instead of exposing member variables publically. Many a people told that this approach helps in encapsulation. I don’t realize any encapsulation advantage by making it a property. While discussions, I came to know that not many people knows about the real reason for going for Property. I have a big list of properties that I need to map between two objects, and in one, the value that I need to map is buried inside an array. I'm hoping to avoid hard-coding the property names in the code. If I have a class like this: class Product { public $colors, $sizes; } I can access the properties like this: $props = array('colors', 'sizes'); foreach ($props as $p) { $this->$p = $other_object->$p; } As far as I can tell, if each of the properties on the left are an array, I can't do this: foreach ($props as $p) { $this->$p[0]['value'] = $other_object->$p; } Is that correct, or am I missing some clever way around this?
