• Building a complex view with Three20 - resources?

  I'm using three20 for most of my iPhone app. One of the views I need to create is relatively complex. It needs a top bar (under the nav bar) with some controls and label, an image view below this bar (which occupies most of the body) and another bottom bar with more controls and labels (above the tab bar control). I don't have much UI experience - my only experience with anything UI is laying stuff out using CSS, etc on websites. Apple's online doc seems to assume that the reader knows a bunch about rectangles, layouts, frames, etc or is using InterfaceBuilder. And three20 isn't too well documented either. So my question is: Is it possible to design something like what I describe in IB and then still have a three20-based app use it? If so, any tips/pointers on how would be much appreciated. Can you point me to some documentation that explain how views/controls etc are rendered. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out if I find some decent explanation/tutorial for it.

This will give us the simple implementation of search request, like "show me all items in group 1". We will have a deal only with CatalogModel.catalog_root_group The problem is - this association does't work. I always get "catalog_root_group" equals to nil Also, i have tried to overcome the using of reference to root group ("catalog_root_group"), but i cannot construct appropriate search request in ruby ... Do you know, how to do it ?

• Is this a situation where Qt Model/View architecture is not useful?

  Hi, I am writing a GUI based application where I read a string of values from serial port every few seconds and I need to display most of the values in some type graphical indicator(I was thinking of QprogressBar maybe) that displays the range and the value. Some of the other data that I am parsing from the string are the date and fault codes. Also, the data is hierarchical. I wanted to use the model/view architecture of Qt because I have been interested in MVC stuff for a while but have never quite wrapped my brain around how to implement it very well. As of now, I have subclassed QAbstractItemModel and in the model I read the serial port and wrap the items parsed from the string in a Tree data structure. I can view all of the data in a QtreeView with no issues. I have also began to subclass QAbstractItemView to build my custom view with all of the Graphical Indicators and such. This is where I am getting stuck. It seems to me that in order for me to design a view that knows how to display my custom model the view needs to know exactly how all of the data in the model is organized. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of Model/View? The QTreeView I tested the model with is basically just displaying the model as it is setup in the Tree structure but I don't want to do that because the data is not all of the same type. Is the type of data or the way you would like to present it to the user a determining factor in whether or not you should use this architecture? I always assumed it was just always better to design in an MVC style. It seems to me like it might have been better to just subclass QWidget and then read in from the serial port and update all of subwidgets(graphical indicators, labels, etc...) from the subclass. Essentially, do everything in one class. Does anybody understand this issue that can explain to me either what I am missing or why I shouldn't be doing it this way. As of now I am a little confused. • Registering custom webcontrol inside mvc view?

  I am in the middle of a project where I am migrating some code for a website from WebForms to MVC - unfortunatly there's not enough time to do it all at once, so I will have to do some... not so pretty solutions. I am though facing a problems with a custom control I have written that inherits from the standard GridView control namespace Controls { public class MyGridView : GridView { ... } } I have added to the web.config file as usual: <configuration> ... <system.web> ... <pages> ... <controls> ... <add tagPrefix="Xui" namespace="Controls"/> </controls> </pages> </system.web> </configuration> Then on the MVC View: <Xui:MyGridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" ...>...</Xui:MyGgridView> However I am getting a parser error stating that the control cannot be found. I am suspecting this has to do with the mix up of MVC and WebForms, however I am/was under the impression that such mixup should be possible, is there any kind of tweak for this? I realise this solution is far from ideal, however there's no time to "do the right thing". Thanks

• Two PickerViews in save View issue?

  I'm trying to have 2 pickerviews in the same view. It works except for two things. If one pickerview has more rows than the other the app crashes when picking an item from the pickerview with more items. Also I created an NSLog for the pickerviews and the console shows that I'm picking two items at once when in fact i'm only dealing with one pickerview. I know it sounds a bit confusing but I'm including all the code.   Hello, I'm new to C# and am stuck on the following. I have a Silverlight web service that uses LINQ to query a ADO.NET entity object. e.g.: [OperationContract] public List<Customer> GetData() { using (TestEntities ctx = new TestEntities()) { var data = from rec in ctx.Customer select rec; return data.ToList(); } } This works fine, but what I want to do is to make this more abstract. • Bug in the official Android Fragments training sample?

  It seems to me that there must be a bug in the Android Fragments demo. As background, Fragments are apparently sometimes instantiated by the Android OS and thus need a public no-arg constructor: All subclasses of Fragment must include a public empty constructor. The framework will often re-instantiate a fragment class when needed, in particular during state restore, and needs to be able to find this constructor to instantiate it. If the empty constructor is not available, a runtime exception will occur in some cases during state restore. But the NewsReader demo from the official Android training on Fragments constructs the HeadlinesFragment class and configures it with setOnHeadlineSelectedListener(this) from NewsReaderActivity.onCreate(). If the Android OS re-instantiates this fragment, the mHeadlineSelectedListener field will be null because HeadlinesFragment doesn't save or restore its state. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

In first view, on click of a button second view is shown. on click of a cell in second view, thrid view is shown. but third view is a landscape. I'm using "pushViewController" to navigate from each view. When creating views in IB, first two views are portait and 3rd view is a landscape. • Is there any reasons to prefer SparkViewEngine over XSLT (or vice versa) for a standalone email gene

  I have a service that receives an object containing all the data needed to build a newsletter. I need to be able to generate the email using different templates. I don't want to involve the whole ASP.NET stack for that, so I want a separate templating engine. Reading a lot of opinions, I have found that XSLT was not getting very much love when it comes to templating engines. Why? SparkViewEngine is a "new cool toy", but it seems mature enough considering the number of projects that have been built with it. What do you think? Did you used those 2 engines? in which situation, and what strength/pain did you enjoy/endure

• What does flushing thread local memory to global memory mean?

  Hi, I am aware that the purpose of volatile variables in Java is that writes to such variables are immediately visible to other threads. I am also aware that one of the effects of a synchronized block is to flush thread-local memory to global memory. I have never fully understood the references to 'thread-local' memory in this context. I understand that data which only exists on the stack is thread-local, but when talking about objects on the heap my understanding becomes hazy. I was hoping that to get comments on the following points: When executing on a machine with multiple processors, does flushing thread-local memory simply refer to the flushing of the CPU cache into RAM? When executing on a uniprocessor machine, does this mean anything at all? If it is possible for the heap to have the same variable at two different memory locations (each accessed by a different thread), under what circumstances would this arise? What implications does this have to garbage collection? How aggressively do VMs do this kind of thing? Overall, I think am trying to understand whether thread-local means memory that is physically accessible by only one CPU or if there is logical thread-local heap partitioning done by the VM? Any links to presentations or documentation would be immensely helpful. I have spent time researching this, and although I have found lots of nice literature, I haven't been able to satisfy my curiosity regarding the different situations & definitions of thread-local memory. • Adjust size of MPMediaPickerController's view ?

  In my application I don't use the upper bar that displays Wi-Fi/Date/Time because it's a game. However I need to be able to let my user to pick his music, so I'm using a MPMediaPickerController. The problem is, that when I present my controller, the controller ends up leaving a 10 pixels ( aprox ) bar at the top of the screen, just in the place the Wi-Fi/Date/Time bar, should be present. • ASP.NET MVC View ReRenders Part of Itself

  In all my years of .NET programming I have not run across a bug as weird as this one. I discovered the problem because some elements on the page were getting double-bound by jQuery. After some (ridiculous) debugging, I finally discovered that once the view is completely done rendering itself and all its children partial views, it goes back to an arbitrary yet consistent location and re-renders itself. I have been pulling my hair out about this for two days now and I simply cannot get it to render itself only once! For lack of any better debugging idea, I've painstakingly added logging tracers throughout the HTML just so I can pin down what may be causing this. For instance, this code ($log just logs to the console): ... <script type="text/javascript">var x = 0; $log('1');</script> <div id="new-ad-form"> <script type="text/javascript">x++;$log('1.5', x);</script> ... will yield ... <--- this happens before this snippet 1 1.5 1 ... 10 <--- bottom of my form, after snippet 1.5 2 <--- beginning of part that runs again! ... 9 <--- this happens after this snippet I've searched my codebase high and low, but there is NOTHING that says that it should re-render part of a page. I'm wondering if the jQueryUI has anything to do with it, as #new-ad-form is the container for a jQueryUI dialog box. • Is this part of MVC in .NET?

  I have a .NET MVC winform app. I've created an AppDelegate class that handles application startup and shutdown...for now (it might do more later). Winform apps have a Program.cs file that does some app initialization, starts the message pump and creates the first form. In my app, the first form is AppDelegate, which isn't really a form but is forced that way by Application.Run(). AppDelegate does any further app initialization and starts the first Controller, which then initializes any child controllers (these then create their views). I don't consider events occuring in Program.cs and AppDelegate as part of the MVC. Conceptually, what would these be called?

  I have created a simple blog application with Ruby on Rails. The applications consists of two tables, posts and comments. Comments belongs_to :post and posts has_many :comments. I created posts table with the following columns: title:string, body:text. I created the comments table with the following columns: body:text post_id:integer name:string email:string In the /views/comments/index.html.erb display I would like to show a listing of all comments w/ the post title as well. Currently, the index view only displays post_id, body, name, email. How do I replace the post_id column with the corresponding post title?
