How do I cut and paste commands from your blog?

At the recent ODTUG Kscope 12 conference several people told me that they really enjoyed our blog on the Optimizer but were frustrated because they couldn’t cut and paste the commands used in the blog posts straight into their environment. Typically I use screen shots in the blog posts to make the commands clear but it does mean that it is impossible to cut and paste the commands into your environment. In order to get around this I have created a downloadable .sql script for each of our blog posts. You should now see the sentence “You can get a copy of the script I used to generate this post here”, appearing at the bottom of each blog post. Clicking on the link will open the .sql script that contains all of the commands used in the post. You can either save the entire script or just cut and paste the particular command you are interested in! I have added scripts for all of this year’s blog posts and am slowly making my way through our old posts until we have a script for everything we have posted to date. Why is my google translate data not showing up in analytics?

In my entry OFM 11g: Install OAM 10.1.4.3 (32-bit) on 64-bit RedHat AS 5 I explained how to install OAM 10.1.4.3 (32-bit) on 64-bit RedHat. This is great and works. If you seriously want to use OAM 10.1.4.3 you should consider OHS 11g 32-bit. But this installation is a bit tricky. Nearly all tricks to get this done are described in the above mentioned entry. Today I realized that I missed a small bit to get the installation successfully done.The missing part is within the script to create a vital piece of the OHS 11g package. This part is called genclientsh and resides in $OHS_HOME/bin. This script uses gcc to link binaries. By default this script works great, but on a 64-bit Linux it fails. To get around this, find the variable LD and change the value of gcc to gcc -m32.Done. Caveat On support.oracle.com you will find a Note that suggests to build a small shell script named gcc and includes the -m32 switch. Actually, I consider this as dangerous, because we are humans and tend to forget things quickly. Building a globally available script that changes things for a single setup has side effects that will result in unpredictable results.

stud ubuntu howto?

I've just been looking at the stud init script as I thought perhaps I'm meant to create a stud.conf inside /etc/stud However, in looking through the init script it would apppear that it loads stud.conf variables into the current environment. This of course fails for some reason and you get a bunch of errors. Worse still, stud source code doesn't work with environment variables. Can someone tell me how you're actually meant to set up stud with init script as it would appear to be completely broken. Maybe I can just disable the init script and call stud from rc.local?

Which language is more suitable heavy file tasks?

I need to write a script (based on basic functions) to process /image/audio/video files. The process is mainly filesystem tasks and converts. The database of files has been stored by mysql. The script is simple but cause heavy tasks on the system; for example renaming/converting/copying thousands of file in a run. The script does not read the content of files into memory, it just manage the commands for sub-processes. The main weight is on the communication with filesystem. The script will be used regularly for new files. My concern is about performance. I am thinking of Shell script a complied language like C Please advise which programming language is more suitable for this purpose and why? UPDATE: An example is to scan a folder for images, convert them with ImageMagick, move files to destination folder, get file info, then update the database. As you can see, the process has no room for optimization, and most of languages have similar APIs for popular programs like ImageMagick, MySQL, etc. Thus, it can be written in any language. I just wish to reduce resource usage by speeding up the long loop. NOTE: I know that questions about comparing languages are not favorable, but I really had problem to choose, because the problems can appear in action.

crontab environment

I have written various scripts to launch Java server applications, which are typically run for 24 hours before being shut down (by invoking the same script with a different parameter). The script relies on environment variables defined in a file: ~/<user>.env, which I source from .bashrc. This works fine when invoking the script from the command line but if I want to add the script as a crontab entry I run into the problem where .bashrc isn't read. My question: What is the best practice approach for solving this problem? I realise I could define a crontab entry such as: * * * * 1-5 /usr/bin/bash -c '. /home/myuser/myuser.env && /home/myuser/scripts/myscript.sh' ... but this seems plain ugly. Alternatively I could source myuser.env at the beginning of every script, but this would become a nightmare to maintain. Any help appreciated.

Using Stored Procedures in SSIS

The SSIS Data Flow components: the source task and the destination task are the easiest way to transfer data in SSIS. Some data transactions do not fit this model, they are procedural tasks modeled as stored procedures. In this article we show how you can call stored procedures available in RSSBus ADO.NET Providers from SSIS. In this article we will use the CreateJob and the CreateBatch stored procedures available in RSSBus ADO.NET Provider for Salesforce, but the same steps can be used to call a stored procedure in any of our data providers. Step 1: Open Visual Studio and create a new Integration Services Project. Step 2: Add a new Data Flow Task to the Control Flow window. Step 3: Open the Data Flow Task and add a Script Component to the data flow pane. A dialog box will pop-up allowing you to select the Script Component Type: pick the source type as we will be outputting columns from our stored procedure. Step 4: Double click the Script Component to open the editor. Step 5: In the "Inputs and Outputs" settings, enter all the columns you want to output to the data flow. Ensure the correct data type has been set for each output. You can check the data type by selecting the output and then changing the "DataType" property from the property editor. In our example, we'll add the column JobID of type String. Step 6: Select the "Script" option in the left-hand pane and click the "Edit Script" button. This will open a new Visual Studio window with some boiler plate code in it. Step 7: In the CreateOutputRows() function you can add code that executes the stored procedures included with the Salesforce Component. In this example we will be using the CreateJob and CreateBatch stored procedures. Step 11: Your project should be ready to run.

Moving a Cube from a GUI texture on iOS [on hold]

I really hope someone can help me in this since I am working already two days but without any result. What I' am trying to achieve in this instance is to move a GameObject when a GUI Texture is touch on a Iphone. The GameObject to be moved is named Cube. The Cube has a Script named "Left" that supposedly when is "call it " from the GUITexture the Cube should move left. I hope is clear: I want to "activated" the script in the Game Object from the Guitexture. I try to use send message but without any joy as well so I am using GetComponent. Since this kind of sharing is based on capturing and redirecting the contents to the target terminal, the users on the receiving end won't be able to see whatever is being edited on initiators' terminal [using editors such as vi]. Also it is not possible to share the session with any connected user on the system unless the initiator has the necessary permissions and privileges. The script utility records everything printed in a terminal session, while the tee utility replicates the contents of the screen capture on to the standard output of the target terimal. The tee utility does not buffer the output - so, the screen capture from the initiators' terminal appears almost right away in the target terminal. Though I never tested, this technique may work on all *NIX and Linux flavors with little or no changes. Also there might be other ways to accomplish this. [Thanks to Sujeet for sharing this tip] Microsoft Windows Most of the Windows users may rely on VNC services to share a desktop session. Another way to share the desktop session is to use the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client. Here are the steps. Connect to the target Windows system using Remote Desktop Connection client Launch Windows Task Manager Navigate to the "Users" tab Find the user session that you want to connect to and have full control over as the other user who is currently holding that session Select the user name in Windows Task Manager, right click and choose the option "Remote Control" A window pops up on the other user's session with the message "<USER is requesting to control your session remotely. Do you accept the request?" Once the other user says "Yes", you will be granted access to that session. Since then both users should be able to see the same screen and even control the session from their respective workstations.

Anonymouse VS Logged in users on my site & Google Analytics

I'd like to be able to run two different 'tracks' for Google Analytics; One for anonymous users of the site and another for Users whom are logged-in. I say "track" because Im not sure of the term--but I definitely know I want it to all be in the same "Analytics Account", I just want to segregate my logged-in users... In the site template, I can very easily add a conditional to display one or the other (Analytics code snippet)... Which Im hoping this comes down to and although Im not sure, it seems that the last digit in your Analytics ID (e.g. UA-15XXXX0-X) could be incremented to gain such additional 'tracks'....? Any tips? Ubuntu not mounting brand-new external drive

I bought a brand new 3TB external drive for my birthday coming up, It's a WD My Book, it came as NTFS, and I'm trying to make it mount using a simple script on boot. (Not /etc/fstab, I ruined my comp. using that by accident and had to re-install, I'm instead having a script run in /etc/init.d) The thing is, it's under /dev/sdf and I want it to mount in /exhd, the script seems to run but it doesn't mount it, any help here?

Beginning with shell scripting

I am fresh into Ubuntu and one of my goals is shell scripting for personal (and maybe public) use. I'm a novice, though I do understand some of the basics (e.g. what a variable, string, loop, etc... is) but to get the most of scripting I need to learn in-depth. I figure the best way to do that is to jump right into scripting and ask questions only pertinent to the stage I am at in my attempted script. Scenario: I have edited my sudoers file to allow my non-root user to run sudo commands without being prompted for a password. Question: In vim, what would be the best code to use for a function that checks whether this condition is [true], If not, prompt the user if they want the script to edit and save the sudoers file to make this condition [true]? Layout - If condition is true, carry-on with rest of script. If condition is not true, the script silently edits/adds the line: %sudo ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL in the sudoers file, saves and then continues on with the next part of the script. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and assist me in my journey to writing shell scripts.

can't execute scripts compiled with shc

I'm trying to use SHC to compile a shell script so that I can set the SUID bit on it and obfuscate what it's doing (I'm attempting to have it run as part of all new users' .bashrc). As a test, I wrote a script that's simply: #!/bin/bash env And compiled it using shc -r -f script.sh However, when I try to run the resulting script by simply doing ./script.sh.x, even after setting it to 777 (just for testing purposes), I get "Operation not permitted; killed" unless I run it as sudo (which I don't want to have to do). Am I running afoul of some Ubuntu permissions that won't let me run binaries created by shc? Thanks!

I have a launchctl job I define as such: <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/bin/sh</string> <string>-c</string> <string>~/projects/script.sh</string> </array> When I run script.sh manually, the script works fine, as it uses the currently configured rvm version of ruby. When I run this through launchctl, the system version of Ruby is used, which breaks the script. How can I get this script to run with the right version of ruby available?

Why 0 bytes or 2145386496 bytes (2046 GB!!??)? Why does it sometimes state the attacker and the requested script and sometimes state 'REMOTE_ADDR not set' and file 'unknown'? How do I proceed to figure this out?
