• How do you add a certificate for WLAN in Linux, at the command-line?

  I'm using Maemo on a Nokia n810 Internet tablet, and when given a list of installed certificates to choose from when connecting to a PEAP wireless network, it's always blank. I've already installed a couple of certificates through the gui on the device, and only the certificate authorities show up. I've confirmed that Maemo's connection software that handles certificates is buggy, in such a way that certificates are never added, or properly added certificates cannot be found. Is there a way to add WLAN certificates at the command-line, and connect to a wireless network at the command-line as well? I used to use iwconfig to connect, but I never used it with PEAP. Note: I have nothing in /etc/ssl/certs

• Is there a Linux-compatible R/C simulator that works with real radios?

  My Dad flies radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft. He used to run a simulator called "RealFlight" which allowed him to connect his actual radio to his computer and fly simulated craft. He learned enough to fly actual planes, but he wants to move up from "trainer" aircraft to higher-performance craft. After some crashes, he'd like to go back to the simulator for a while. The catch: he's given up Windows and is now running Ubuntu. Question: is there an R/C flight simulator that Runs on Ubuntu? Allows you to connect your radio and use it to control the simulator, preferably through a USB port?

• Can't access some websites with any browser

  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a new Samsung laptop and accessing the internet okay via ethernet cable to my university's ISP. Some sites work fine (e.g. google.com) but I can't access others at all (microsoft.com, topshop.com). I can't connect to those sites in safe mode with networking. And ping and tracert both fail. There's no proxy. Other users can connect successfully to these sites using my cable and socket. I've tried all the following with no success: using various browsers (IE9, FF, Chrome) creating a new user updating drivers clearing the DNS cache using OpenDNS and Google's DNS turning off Avast tweaking the MTU running MS malicious software removal tool running Spybot S&D reviewing the hosts file disabling the IPv6 options repairing / resetting winsock settings disabling advanced javascript options I have run out of ideas... can anyone see anything I've missed??!

• L2TP server - site-to-site vpn connection

  I am not sure this is the right place for this question but here goes. We want to connect users using an L2TP VPN connection to a users at the other end of a SonicWall site-to-site VPN. Currently we have a SonicWall firewall/router contraption in the home-office that is connected to a far-office over a VPN. Communications with machines in the home-office and far-office is fine. We also have an L2TP server running on the SonicWall that outside users can connect to. This gives them access to machines in the home-office. Communication between outside users and the home-office is fine. However outside users connected to the home-office via the L2TP server can't communicate with machines in the far-office. Will there need to be network bridging or routing needed? Or will this simply be a firewall setting to get this working? Thanks for any help or clues you provide! Rob

• Does ssh key need to be named id_rsa?

  I have come across this problem a couple of times when creating build servers with keyed authentication. I was wondering if anyone else has experience this. I have a couple of keys for my current user that may connect to different machines. Let say machine1 and machine2. I have pasted my public key into their respective authorized_keys file. The first one I have named the first key id_rsa and the second key bender. I know it is a problem I see intermittently, because I at home I have multiple keys without much trouble. I would also appreciate a overview on how the pub and private keys interact with the client and server. I thought I had a pretty decent idea, but apparently I am missing something. • Sonicwall - dual WAN ports - switch from one to another

  Hi, Folks! I'm using a SonicWall NSA 240 which has two WAN ports (T1 and Comcast) and the LAN port has a cable which connects to a switch. From the switch, several cables connect to other switches. The SonicWall doesn't have DHCP enabled; one of our domain controllers running Windows Server 2003 also functions as a DHCP server. Is there a way for a user in our network to change connection from T1 to Comcast as their ISP or vice versa? In other words, if a user is connected via the T1, can he/she somehow connect via Comcast instead? Thanks, in advance, for your help! Sincerely, Charles

• Problems with connecting to ASM instance

  I have Oracle11 with RAC installed on RedHat 5. I have two servers with two instances one on each one. In each server I succeed connect to appropriate instance of database but not to instance of ASM. I connect with user oracle11 and type: export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1 sqlplus "/ as sysdba" It connects but write: Connected to an idle instance and when I try to access to parameters or views I have errors. For know that +ASM1 is the SID I type: ps aux | grep pmon and get: asm_pmon_+ASM1 I tried also with +ASM but it was also unsuccessfully. What is wrong here?

• Dell PR03X port replicator and DisplayPort to DVI adapter not detecting second monitor

  Hi, I have a dell M4400 connected to a PR03X port replicator/docking station. I use the DVI port to connect it to a first Dell 2208WFP monitor and I'm trying to use a DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter to connect it to a second Dell 2208WFP monitor. The second monitor, connected via the DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter immediately goes into sleep mode and the laptop doesn't detect it. What is really weird is that it did detect it the first time I plugged it in but after I unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in it stopped working. I swapped the monitors round and it detected them both but after unplugging the monitor connected via the DisplayPort-to-DVI and plugging it in again it stopped working. Both monitors work if plugged in directly to the DVI port. Is there some way to force re-detection? Any ideas? Thanks, Mark

• I just moved, have no internet on my laptop or ipod, but everyone else who lives here does

  I just moved to Thunder Bay and my laptop as well as my ipod cannot connect to the internet. My laptop allows me to write the password for the wifi, but I still have no internet connection. When I try to use the cable, the computer tells me I have a perfect connection, even the icon shows that it's working, but I can't open any web pages or use any internet functions. When I try to use MSN it sends me to a troubleshooting option and informs me that there's some kind of problem with the "gateway". I have unplugged the modem and the router and plugged them back in, this did not help. I am living in a home where all the people are using wifi on the same system as me, and no one has ever had any problems. Back home both my laptop and my ipod worked without a problem both in my home, as well as on campus. Since this problem seems to be limited only to me, it would indicate that there's a problem on my end -- with my laptop. However, in that case my ipod would be working. It has never failed to connect before. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  I am working on putting together a desktop for the first time and and ran into a problem, I am not sure how to connect the fans that came in my tower, my power supply, and connect them all to the mother board. Tower Mobo Power Supply There are 3 fans in the tower, each have 3 pin male and female connector that come connected, and 4 pin (larger?) male and female connector which are hanging. How would I go about connecting The fans together then to the power supply and mobo so it is easiest control (or suggest me a smart / better option). Pictures are from fans on HAF 922 Tower. Thanks

• WICD Network Manager does'nt work in 13.10

  I am currently making use of a Wired Broadband, where in the default Network Manager though shows that the Auto Ethernet is connected, I was unable to browse through any websites in the browser. I had to disconnect & connect the Auto Ethernet several times in the Network Manager or restart Ubuntu to get it fixed. But following these steps is quiet annoying as this issue happens very frequently. I browsed through the internet and got to know that WICD Network Manager fixes this issue. Earlier I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 where the same issue was fixed by making use of WCID Network Manager. Recently I upgraded to 13.10 and as I got the same network issue in default Network Manager, I have installed WICD Network Manager but when I try to open WCID, I get an alert message saying, "Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages." When I click on OK, I get the same message again and when I click on OK again I get the following message, "Error connecting to wicd service via D-Bus.Please ensure the wicd service is running." Any help to fix this issue is greatly appreciated as this issue was annoying me since I installed 13.10

  I am having DD-WRT v24-sp2(05/08/11) running on Asus RT n 13 u B1 router,with dhcp on. But users not able to connect through wifi...its showing obtaining ip address and disconnects there after. Wired Devices are getting ip address and able to access internet.Wifi was working till yesterday,but all of a sudden it stopped working. on the ddwrt controlpanelsystem information under Wireless Clients mac address of clients that are trying to connect are appearing but soon it disappears. but no such issue with wired clients. Can any one please help me in fixing this..

• NetworkManager broken after upgrade to Kubuntu Saucy

  I had Kubuntu 13.04 on my ThinkPad X220, and I upgraded to 13.10 and I am not able to connect to a wired or wireless connection. The new network tray icon does not show any entries at all. In the menu of the tray icon, there is an error saying: Require NetworkManager 0.9.8, found . I then tried the following: nmcli con ** (process:3695): WARNING **: Could not initialize NMClient /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: Rejected send message, 3 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.64" (uid=1000 pid=3695 comm="nmcli con ") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=1116 comm="NetworkManager ") Error: nmcli (0.9.8.0) and NetworkManager (unknown) versions don't match. After finishing the wizard, I think it still went and ran Easy Install, because it auto-installed VMware tools and I never got to select anything for my windows setup. Then, when it was finished, all the hardware changes I had made were lost. The RAM was changed from 2 GB back to the default of 1 GB, my CD ROM drive was set back to "Use a Physical Drive" and "Connect at Power On", and the Floppy Drive was also set to "Connect at Power On", after I disabled them. I was trying to install Windows 7, and I wasn't sure if I could change the RAM settings after installation without needing to reactivate it, so I deleted the VM and tried to start over. This time, the "Installer disc image" had my Win7 image pre-selected, so I clicked "I will install it myself later," set my hardware again, and tried to boot off my CD. Again,it did an Easy Install, and reset my RAM and my drive settings. So I deleted it again and the third time it still had the Win7 image pre-selected, but this time I unplugged all the drives and let it try to boot off the empty harddrive and fail, and made sure it kept all my hardware settings. Then, I powered it off, put my Win7 image in the guest CD ROM, and powered it on. This time it finally let me run the installer and pick my language, and type a user name. This time when I powered it off it kept my hardware settings. I can duplicate the error by doing exactly the steps above. Creating a new VM, selecting my "Installer Image," hitting next, going back, selecting "I will Install it myself," and then finish the wizard, and customizing my hardware right before the end, setting the CD Rom drive to the same installer media, and setting "Connect on Power On." (If I start it without the CD ROM in the first time, it doesn't do it). When I power on, I'm not prompted for any install information (like language and user name), and when it runs the first timemy hardware choices are reset (like the RAM back to 1 GB). • VirtualBox - Mac OSX host Win7 guest - no Internet access for guest VM

  I have a Mac running OSX 10.9.2, and I just downloaded and installed a Win7 IE9 VM in VirtualBox. My Mac uses Wi-Fi for internet access, and it's behind a proxy (it's a work machine). VirtualBox loads the VM fine, and at some point the VM can see the DNS servers of the host. But I've never been able to make the VM have internet access. I've tried all kinds of combinations of Network settings on the VM via the VirtualBox Settings, in conjunction with Internet Sharing in OSX's System Preferences, but no luck. Has anyone done a similar setup and made the VM successfully connect to the Internet? Thanks in advance for any inputs. [ Update: I was able to get internet access for the VM when the host was using my home network. When I ran the VPN software to connect to the work network, the internet access went away again.] (Initially posted this on stackoverflow.com, but it was put on hold as off-topic by several users, and was advised to ask here instead)

• Sharing Internet Connection using an ad-hoc wifi network

  I've installed a WiFi Adapter in my Windows XP PC and created an ad-hoc network. I am able to connect to the network through my iPod Touch. On the same PC I have a LAN connection to the Internet. I need to share this internet connection to my iPod too. The problem is Windows did not assign an IP Address (even though assign IP address automatically is selected) to this WiFi network. When I tried to share the Internet connection, I got a message that LAN Network Adapter's IP address will be changed to 192.168.1.1. But if this happens I will not be able to connect to other devices/servers in my LAN Network. How do I share the Internet connection through WiFi?

• In Ubuntu, MoBlock makes it take a while to actually start using internet

  When connecting to wireless internet in Ubuntu (tested with two different networks), I connect nearly instantly. However, to actually load a page, I need to wait a few minutes, at which point I can actually use a web browser or Pidgin. Until then, various applications try to connect until they time out. I've discovered that, if instead of waiting a few minutes, I open Terminal and run sudo /etc/init.d/blockcontrol stop, everything suddenly is able to load. I can then start MoBlock again with no ill effects. Why is this happening? What is it that would cause MoBlock to take a few minutes to start letting traffic in, but only when started on bootup? • My NetGear router suddenly started showing limited access for all wifi connected laptops

  I have netgear n300 router which I had installed about 6 months back. Here is how the setup is, I have a local internet provider by the name of "Hathway" they have this modem which is in turn connected to the router and a wire from router is connected to my desktop. As shown in this pic below, except for the laptop I use a desktop rest all the connection is same So with this connection and the below configuration, every thing worked fine. The desktop would work also all my laptops and mobile devices would connect and be able to access the internet without any problem. Now suddenly since yesterday (with no changes made whatsoever to this config) all my laptops start showing the limited connection message and cannot connect to the internet. However the desktop which is connected can access the internet. Can someone please guide me on this.

• VPN Error 868 when connecting even if using IP address

  I am trying to connect to a public VPN from VPNGate. However when I attempt to connect to a VPN from the list using MS-SSTP protocol I get the following error: Error 868: The remote connection was not made because the name of the remote access server did not resolve. If I open a command prompt and ping the address in question it resolves to the IP shown on the listing. If I configure the VPN using that IP address directly I still receive the error even though the name no longer needs to resolve. This was working yesterday but it seems the VPN I was using has been removed from the list. What is happening and how can I fix it?

• Certain Programs cannot access internet

  Operating System: Windows 7 (x64) Problem: Certain Programs are unable to access the internet. They claim that there is no connection when you already are connected. Hello, before we start. Just letting you know I'm new here, and I'm very new to Windows 7. I installed it two days ago. I just installed Windows 7 on my laptop and I have a few problems. I play World of Warcraft, as well as a variety of games. And when I first attempt to log into the game, I get a windows error message, but it doesn't stop there. I thought World of Warcraft got corrupted during the upgrade. It seems that I am unable to access the internet from other online games as well. Most say in along the lines of "Cannot connect to patch server, try again later." I cannot use a downloader Also, I have internet explorer. The x32 version of the browser cannot connect to the internet, and when I try to enter "google.com", it says the same thing. I'm only accessing this site through Internet Explorer x64, which I would have been fine with is it's compatible with Adobe Flash. The only thing that seems to connect to the internet are Internet Explorer x64 and Windows Live Messenger. Here are the steps I have taken, but none worked. 1.) Disable Windows Firewall 2.) Have Windows Firewall Enabled, but allow the specific programs to access internet. And allowed all incoming access. 3.) Disabled UAC, Ran the programs as an admin, and set compatibility to Vista. 4.) Uninstalled an anti-virus program. (McAffee Security Suite 2010) 5.) Reinstalled the programs 6.) Reinstalled Windows 7 7.) Retaken the steps on the Administrator account. Please assist me in this problem. I need to get back into the game. Thanks so much in advance.

• Openfire: Closing session due to incorrect hostname

  I have a fresh install on a windows sevrer 2008 box. I can connect adium to the server from a remote machine and from the admin console/sessions I can see my session. My friend can aslo connect and I can see his session. I can send an admin message out and both of us can see it in the adium clients. We can't see each other though. I also get these logs in the warn window in the log viewer: Closing session due to incorrect hostname in stream header. Host: prjatk.com. Connection: org.jivesoftware.openfire.net.SocketConnection@1b1fd9c socket: Socket[addr=/109.109.248.82,port=56258,localport=5269] session: null prjatk.com is the server - however in the server settings on the admin screen I see the computer name as the hostname - is that the issue? If so how can I change that?

• SSH tunnel RDP through gateway server outside the network?

  I need to access a PC via RDP that is behind a firewall. There's no way to connect to it directly that I know of. What I'd like to do is SSH from that remote PC to my home Ubuntu server, then connect to the remote PC using my home PC with the Ubuntu server as a gateway. I've tried SSH from remote PC to Ubuntu server, tunneling remote port 3389 to 127.0.0.1:3389, then SSH from home PC to Ubuntu server, tunneling local port 13389 to remote port 3389. At that point I try to RDP into: 127.0.0.1:13389, 127.0.0.2:13389, :3389 - no dice. I suppose I could simply set up an SSH server on my home PC and SSH from remote PC into home PC and then establish the tunnel that way, but I'd rather not go through the hassle of installing and configuring an ssh server on my home PC. I know LogMeIn would work here, but I don't want to go that route for various reasons. Any ideas? Thanks!
