  • how to activate trigger after all the bulk insert(s) in mysql

    I am using mysql and there are bulk inserts that goes on to my table. My doubt is if I create a trigger specifying after insert, then the trigger will get activated for every insert after, which I do not want to happen. Is there any way to activate a trigger after all the bulk inserts are completed? Any advice? Thanks.

  • Insert names into table if not already existing

    I am trying to build an application that allows users to submit names to be added to a db table (runningList). Before the name is added tho, I would like to check firstname and lastname against another table (controlList). It must exist in (controlList) or reply name not valid. If the name is valid I would like to then check firstname and lastname against (runningList) it make sure it isnt already there. If it isnt there, then insert firstname & lastname. If it is there, reply name already used. Below is code that worked before I tried to add the test against the controlList, I somehow broke it altogether while trying to add the extra step. if (mysql_num_rows(mysql_query('SELECT * FROM runninglist WHERE firstname=\'' .$firstname . '\' AND lastname=\'' . $lastname .   • MySQL: Digits (1.75) to Friendly Time (1 hour and 45 minutes)

    In my MySQL database, I have a float field named "HoursSpent" with values like "0.25", "1.75", "2.5", etc. Is there a way that I can have my SELECT statement format those values in a friendly format like this?: 0.25 = 15 minutes 1.75 = 1 hour and 45 minutes 2.5 = 2 hours and 30 minutes The "HoursSpent" field is supposed to only have values in 0.25 increments, but if somebody were to put something random like 0.16, it would be nice if the SELECT statement handled that by rounding it up to the nearest 0.25 (so in this case 0.16 would become 0.25, or 15 minutes).

  • MySQL Query Where Column Like Column

    I'm working on a small project that involves grabbing a list of contacts which are stored for each group. Essentially, the database is set up so that each group has a primary and secondary contact stored as, unsurprisingly, Group.Primary and Group.Secondary. The objective is to pull every Primary and Secondary contact for each Group and display them in a sortable table. I have the sortable table all worked out, but I have come across a small problem. Each primary and secondary field can have more than one contact separated by a comma. For instance, if Primary contained 123,256 , it would need to pull both Contacts with IDs 123 and 256. I had intended to use a query formatted like this: SELECT * FROM Group G, Contacts C WHERE G.Primary LIKE %C.ID% OR G.Secondary LIKE %C.ID% so that I could just skip the comma part, but I can't seem to find a working query for this. My question to you is, am I just overlooking something here? Is there a simple query that would let me do this? Or am I better off getting the groups and contacts separately, and combine the two later. I think the former is a little easier to understand when read, which is a plus as this is a shared project, but if that is not possible I will do the latter. This code is simplified, but it gets the point across.

    Hi, can a MySQL slave instance have different row values for the same ID when binlog_format is set to STATEMENT and we insert something like: insert into foo values(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) As I understand it, the slave read the SQL statement and execute it thus, if the replication is lagging, could lead to differences for the same row. Right or wrong ? How can I avoid this situation ? Thank you.

The way I do this not is first run a query getting the items. Than check what I should do then insert/delete. There has to be a better way to do this. Any suggestions?

    I have a table which I pull data from. This data has a date and a stock symbol. There can be multiple rows of data with the same date and different stock symbols. I need to update the table so that there is a running total for all rows with the same date. When a new date occurs the cumulative count re-sets to 1 and then resumes.
