• Render SSRS .RDL to PDF and just open it.

  I tried to be the most descriptive I could. Ok, so since I've never done anything like this before, I guess it's better to ask before starting at all to just don't get the whole process wrong. We have a report that has to be called from an ASP.NET application, it could be a simple button. Through the code-behind, I gotta pass in a paramater, render the report, and don't save it anywhere, just open it to the user, as a .pdf file so he could save or print it. So please, give me links or tips, I'm reading MSDN documentation right now... If you have any suggestion on other technologies, as for the report, I'd like to hear it, but it has to be called from ASP.NET. Thanks in advance!

• Grep Crystal Reports (with Sub-reports)

  I need a way to quickly search a large number of Crystal reports (with sub-reports) for the names of several stored procedures. (Trying to find dependencies.) I'm running Windows XP and downloaded this grep program - http://www.wingrep.com/download.htm. So far, I'm not convinced that it's working. Does anyone know of a reliable way, other than opening each report and sub-report, to search Crystal reports for the existence of a file name? Thanks in advance for any tips.

• Building a blog: what's standard?

  I'm generally pretty new at web stuff. I wanted to build a blog from scratch to get some practice. Few questions: Do most people add new entries of a blog by directly editing the html or is there a more dynamic way of doing this that is used more frequently? I'm assuming you can store the entries in some type of database and then display them via javascript or something similar? What are the most frequently used tools for what I'm describing? I know its about as simple as it gets, but like most things, I just need some tips to get started. Thanks!

• How do I turn off accelerometer input for my flipside view

  I have an iPhone 3.1.3 app which has only 2 methods of input in its main view. It has an info button to switch to a flipside view, and the only other input it takes in the main view is accelerometer movement. I want to switch off the accelerometer input when in the flipside view but haven't been able to find out how. I have the main view controller set as an accelerometer delegate, but did not do the same for the flipside view controller, though I suspect that it inherited it from the main view controller. I am really new to xcode and objective c, I have been reading these forums and a couple of developer books, but if anyone has any tips on other good places to look, please let me know.

  I'm trying to make sure old url's aren't broken after the site's URL structure has changed from this: http://www.domain.com/section/entry_name to this: http://www.domain.com/section/event_name/entry_name But to make it a bit more complex, I'm using the segments to sort entries, for example: http://www.domain.com/news/amazing_event/date/asc http://www.domain.com/videos/my_event/title/desc The new structure only effects one particular event (amazing_event) and should leave the other URL's alone. Where do I even begin to tackle this? • jQuery UI " $("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function"

  When i use DatePicker, jQuery's UI plugin, in an existing .aspx page i get errors that "$("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function". However, when I copy and paste the same code that creates and uses the DatePicker to an html file that's also in the same directory as the aspx page, it works flawlessly. This leads me to assume that there are some JS files in the aspx page that's preventing the DatePicker or maybe jQuery's UI JS files to load properly. Can anyone confirm my beliefs or provide any tips on finding the culprit that's interfering with jQuery's UI plugins?

• How to Set Timeout for Ruby ODBC Driver for SQL Server?

  Hello, I would like to know how to explicitly set a timeout for the Ruby DBI ODBC driver, when connecting to SQL Server. I would like long running queries to simply timeout and cancel themselves, saving further server resources and Rails processes. This was happening while we were using the ADO based Ruby driver, but now that we've switched to DBD::ODBC we are no longer experiencing timeouts. I've looked around but cannot find out how to set the query timeout value. I've tried explicitly setting some values in the driver, and specifying both Timeout and ConnectionTimeout and Connect Timeout in the DSN configuration for the connection. No luck. Your tips and advice are very appreciated. Thanks! Seth

  Hello, Let's say I have a pdf form file available at website which is filled by the users and submitted to the server. On the server side (Asp.Net) I would like to merge the data that I receive in xml format with the empty pdf form that was filled and save it. As I have found there are several possible ways of doing it: Using pdf form created by adobe acrobat and filling it with itextsharp. Using pdf form created by adobe acrobat and filling it with FDF Toolkit .net (which seems to be using itextsharp internally) Usd pdfkt to fill the form. Use pdf form file created with adobe livecycle and merge the data by using Form Data Integration Service As I have no experience with this kind of task can you advise which option would be better/easier and give some additional tips? • GameKit and GKPeerPicker on 1st Gen iPhone and iPod Touch

  This is my current set up for my multiplayer game: A view that gives connection tips and warns the user that multiplayer will not work on the 1st Gen iPhone or ipod Touch. There is a "connect" button that pushes the game view and starts the GKPeerPicker. Unfortunately, I don't have a 1st Gen iPhone or iPod Touch to test what happens if they press the connect button. The view will be pushed, but I don't know what will happen when the PeerPicker tries to show. So the Question(s): Is there anyway to tell if the user will not be able to use GameKit so that I can disable the "connect" button? What will happen if they do press the connect button and GameKit is not available?

• How do I change the frame position for a custom MKAnnotationView?

  I am trying to make a custom annotation view by subclassing MKAnnotationView and overriding the drawRect method. I want the view to be drawn offset from the annotation's position, somewhat like MKPinAnnotationView does it, so that the point of the pin is at the specified coordinates, rather than the middle of the pin. So I set the frame position and size as shown below. However, it doesn't look like I can affect the position of the frame at all, only the size. The image ends up being drawn centered over the annotation position. Any tips on how to achieve what I want?   Hi guys - i was hopefully after some tips opposed to solutions as this is homework and i want to solve it myself I am firstly very new to C. In fact i have never done any before, though i have previous java experience from modules at university. I am trying to write a programme that converts a single integer in to binary. I am only allowed to use bitwise operations and no library functions Can anyone possibly suggest some ideas about how i would go about doing this. • Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

  With ViEmu you really need to unbind a lot of resharpers keybindings to make it work well. Does anyone have what they think is a good set of keybindings that work well for resharper when using ViEmu? What I'm doing at the moment using the Visual Studio bindings from Resharper. Toasting all the conflicting ones with ViEmu, and then just driving the rest through the menu modifiers ( Alt-R keyboard shortcut for the menu item ). I also do the same with Visual Assist shortcuts ( for C++ ) if anyones got any tips and tricks for ViEmu / Resharper or Visual Assist working together well I'd most apprciate it!

• Hashing words to numbers with respect to definition

  As part of a larger project, I need to read in text and represent each word as a number. For example, if the program reads in "Every good boy deserves fruit", then I would get a table that converts 'every' to '1742', 'good' to '977513', etc. Now, obviously I can just use a hashing algorithm to get these numbers. However, it would be more useful if words with similar meanings had numerical values close to each other, so that 'good' becomes '6827' and 'great' becomes '6835', etc. As another option, instead of a simple integer representing each number, it would be even better to have a vector made up of multiple numbers, eg (lexical_category, tense, classification, specific_word) where lexical_category is noun/verb/adjective/etc, tense is future/past/present, classification defines a wide set of general topics and specific_word is much the same as described in the previous paragraph. Does any such an algorithm exist? If not, can you give me any tips on how to get started on developing one myself? I code in C++.

  Hi there. I am trying to create a website in which all interaction takes place on a single page which has its main content filled via AJAX. The site is effectively a template with a central interaction area. Users can click links which results in an AJAX request to fetch a new page to display in the interaction area. In this way, the page never refreshes, instead it has its content fetched and displayed via AJAX. I have found that the CakePHP framework has many useful features that could work with this project, however, I do not no if the Cake's MVC architecture would work with my single page architecture. So, what I really want to know is if I can use CakePHP features and functions on a website of this type, and also if anyone could give me any helpful tips on how I would go about implementing it. I am sorry if this is rambling or vague, english is not my mother tongue so I have trouble expressing what I have to say clearly. Thank you for your time.

• Can I programatically get hold of the Autos/local variables that is shown when debugging?

  Im trying to build an error-logger that loggs running values that is active in the function that caused the error. (just for fun so its not a critical problem) When going in break-mode and looking at the locals-tab and autos-tab you can see all active variables (name, type and value), it would be useful to get hold of that for logging purposes when an error occur and on some other occasions. For my example, I just want to find all local variables that are of type string and integer and store the name and value of them. Is this possible with reflection? Any tips or pointers that get me closer to my goal would be very appreciated. I have toyed with using expression on a specifik object (a structure) to create an automapper against a dataset, but I have not done anything like what I ask for above, so please make me happy and say its possible.   I have a Tab Bar Controller created in Interface Builder Within the Tab Bar are 4 Navigation Controllers. Each controller functions separately and perfectly (yay!) What I need to be able to do is a push a view controller onto a different nav controllers stack and switch the focus onto the appropriate tab bar item (so that the user moves sideways (to a different tab) and up (to a new view) at the same time). This is my first time working with a tab bar controller, and while it's been simple to this point, figuring this out is giving me fits. Any tips you can toss my way would be much appreciated.

  Hey Guys, I was wondering if you could share best practices and common mistakes when it comes to making large numbers of time-sensitive web service calls. In my case, I have a SOAP and an XML-RPC based web service to which I'm constantly making calls. I predict that this will soon become an issue as the number of calls per second will grow. On a higher level, I was thinking of batching those calls and submitting those to the web services every 100 ms. Could you share what else works? On a lower level side of the things, I use Apache Xml-Rpc client and standard javax.xml.soap.* packages for my client implementations. • Tree data structure in iphone with coredata

  Hi, I am looking to store a tree structure in CoreData for iphone. Can someone give me some tips on the best way to go about this? Basically I want to have a bunch of folders that people can dive into in a table view, and I want to have leaves of the tree be photos. The thing is, I want to be able to let the user edit these folders on-the-fly and add folders and content (photos) at their discretion. I'm relatively new to CoreData. Any help would be appreciated.
