• Why is an Ext4 disk check so much faster than NTFS?

  I had a situation today where I restarted my computer and it said I needed to check the disk for consistancy. About 10 minutes later (at "1%" complete), I gave up and decided to let it run when I go home. For comparison, my home computer uses Ext4 for all of the partitions, and the disk checks (which run around once week) only take a couple seconds. I remember reading that having fast disk checks was a priority, but I don't know how they could do that. So, how does Ext4 do disk checks so fast? Is there some huge breakthrough in doing this after NTFS came out (~10 years ago)? Note: The NTFS disk is ~300 GB and the Ext4 disk is ~500 GB. Both are about half full.

• GParted in UBUNTU shows entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE

  Good day to everyone. I hope someone can help me with my problem. I have a dual boot Windows and Ubuntu system. I recently encountered an hd0 out of disk error and wasn't able to boot Ubuntu. So I booted into Windows, after 2 to 3 times of booting and rebooting Windows, I tried booting Ubuntu but still I get the hd0 out of disk error. I decided to run Ubuntu from LIVEUSB to try to fix my Ubuntu partition using GParted, but when I run GParted, it shows my entire disk as UNALLOCATED SPACE! The strange thing is that Nautilus still shows and mounts my partitions. Also every time I boot into Windows , my partitions exists and I am able to read and write to them. I have no idea what is wrong. Please help! I can't stand using Windows since most of the tools I use are in Ubuntu. I don't mind reinstalling Ubuntu. In fact I already tried reinstalling using the LIVEUSB but I wasn't able to, since GParted or the Ubuntu installer itself does not recognized my partitions and shows the entire disk as unallocated space. I am currently running Ubuntu from LIVEUSB. • jQyery bind on ajax load() event

  Hi guys. I have a page which display multiple blocks with results details. Inside each block I have some tags with thichbox jQuery plugin attached( class="thichbox"). http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/ here is an example of one kind of ampersant tag: <a class="thickbox" title="Please Sign In" href="userloginredir.php?height=220&width=350&deal=3"> Problem comes when I added a jQuery pagination to the page because of to many results displaying on the page. The div component with the results inside is updated through ajax load() event. I'm trying to bind the load event with something like this: content.bind('load',???); But I don't know how to pass the load params, targetUrl and the callback function hideLoading, when binding the load event. Please help me out in this matter, already took me more time than possible allowed. Thank you!

  I have placed the facebook "like" and some other social bookmarking websites link on my blog, such as Google Buzz, Digg, Twitter, etc. I just noticed that it takes a while to load my blog page as it need to load the data from the social networking sites (such as number of likes etc). How can I place the links efficiently so that first my blog content loads, and meanwhile it loads data from these websites -- in other words, these sharing widgets should not hang my blog page while waiting for data from external sites?

• iOS get file size on disk

  I'm trying to get the size on disk of a file in iOS using Objective C. As of now I've been able to get the actual size of the file and other file information using NSFileManager and then getting the attributes attributesOfItemAtPath:error but not the size on disk. I also tried getting the file size from struct stat but again it doesn't give me size on disk.I tried using NSTask to make a call to du -h but iOS didn't allow me to fork other processes. Any ideas are welcome :) I know this questions is similar to many others but the difference is that I'm trying to do this in iOS and most of the methods used in other systems don't work here. Thanks

I'm watching and it seems to stick around 50% CPU "us" which I assume means usage.

  Hi there, What is the better approach for load balancing on web servers? My services run in .NET and Mono, so they could be hosted on IIS or Apache2, and the will have to provide SSL connection. I've read two main approaches, store the state in a common server and use sticky sessions, there is any other else? I've read 3 diffent things about sticky sessions: 1)the load balancing device will know with which server did you start the connection and all the further connections from that host will be routed to the same server. 2)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: JSESSIONID 3)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: ASPSESSIONID I'm a little bit confused, what will happen exactly? As the connections will be SSL there is not a chance for the load balancing devide of read the cookies, so then what? About store the estate in a common server, what solutions do you know? I've read memcache is a good solution but is there any other else? Cheers.

• jquery load php file - result is not complete

  I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks! As far as I see from assembler listing, generated by compiler it is implemented as a plain load on x86, however plain loads as far as I know guaranteed to have acquire semantics, while plain stores are guaranteed to have release. Sequentially-consistent store is implemented as locked xchg, while load as plain load. That sounds strange to me, could you please explain this in details? added Just found in internet, that sequentially-consistent atomic load could be done as simple mov as long as store is done with locked xchg, but there was no prove and no links to documentation.
