  • Can't install software from Ubuntu software center

    I've been experimenting with Ubuntu 10.04(64bit) inside a VirtualBox VM. This isn't my first experience with Linux, but I'm still very much a Linux noob. Whenever I try to install software from the Ubuntu Software Center, the installation gets interrupted and I get a warning that this installation requires untrusted sources. I can install anything I want using apt-get, it's just the gui that doesn't work. I've done research on the issue and taken the following precautions with no result: under software sources Allowed Canonical partners Allowed source code Changed the download source to main server I get no errors when running an apt-get update. Can anyone shed some light on the issue?

  • How to fix “Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. “when using Copy.asmx in SharePoint2010

    Problem: In my current project, we use copy.asmx web services in SharePoint2010 to upload a document to a document library. In one of the document library, when uploading a document with a choice field, it blows up and the error message is Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. Analysis: After some research , we found out the problem is that we have 2 content types that both have a field called Document Type , although the internal name are different but the display name are exactly the same and this cause the problem. I am still not too sure why, it could possibly a SharePoint bug. Solution: After rename one of the field display name to a different name, it works like a charm.   • What do you think are the biggest software development issues, in small to medium businesses?

    Hi, I own a small software development company that developes Web software to other small and medium companies in Chile. The business process is very complex and it is hard to stablish where to put the efforts to make our company better, more efficient, and give better solutions. I'm also a TI master's degree student and i'm making a paper about this subject, so any help would be great to help my company and my paper. I have considered 3 areas for the problems: 1) Software development problems 2) Web development problems 3) Small and Medium companies problems I don't know about you, but at least this "business formula" in Chile has not received very much support but it is getting better, but today my company is far from being self-sufficient. UPDATE: Thanks guys for your support so far, i'm updating because i have somewhat enough information so i decided to go deeper within the subjects, wish i would like you to consider for your next answers/commentaries on the subject: 1) Software development problems (3) 1.1 Incomplete problem picture 1.2 Useless delivered software 1.3 Unrealistic or inadequate schedule 2) Web development problems (3) 2.1 Apparently non-viable implementation 2.2 Unefficient module construction design 2.3 Reduced result system inter-operability 3) Small and Medium companies problems (3) 3.1 Very specific, but narrowed requerired system characteristics 3.2 Developed system is not used 3.3 Positivist demand for activities in project execution There are only 3 problems for category, to deliberately keep a thiner scope. Also, i have considered that it would have been apropiated to separate the third clasification on two, but won't be doing it just now: 3) Small and Medium software developement providers problems 4) Small and Medium software developement clients problems In that case, i think i would have made the scope of the problem wider and it is not what i want to do now, until at least i'm very trough with the other two clasifications.   • Pitching My Software-Should I Get a Patent? [closed]

    This Thursday I will be filming for a Canadian TV Show where I will be pitching my software to 5 Canadian Millionaires to invest in. The software is ridiculously basic but it is for sports teams, specifically football and basketball teams. (The show won't air till September) I made this in Adobe Flash using Actionscript. I have been selling the software to sports teams in the USA mostly including University Teams for $20. I have only sold 32 copies ($640), but I don't advertise, I just write articles on the subject. Now my question is this: I have no patent on this software since I have been doing this casually. Is it a bad idea to go onto this TV show and ask them for money for a software patent? Or should I be asking money for marketing/other things? Note: I also have no idea how much I should ask for. I know absolutely nothing about software patents but if it matters no other software exists that does this exact thing (however it could be easily duplicated).

I understood that using service layer is the best approach here. If I understood correctly the service should be calling the function on the BL layer (correct me if I'm wrong) The dilemma: In my main winform UI - should I call the functions from the BL, or from the service? (please explain why) Should I create a service for every single function on the BL even if I need some of the functions only in one UI? for example - should I create services for all the CRUD operations, even though I need to re-use only update operation in the webform?   • How essential is it to make a service layer?

    I started building an app in 3 layers (DAL, BL, UI) [it mainly handles CRM, some sales reports and inventory]. A colleague told me that I must move to service layer pattern, that developers came to service pattern from their experience and it is the better approach to design most applications. He said it would be much easier to maintain the application in the future that way. Personally, I get the feeling that it's just making things more complex and I couldn't see much of a benefit from it that would justify that. This app does have an additional small partial ui that uses some (but only few) of the desktop application functions so I did find myself duplicating some code (but not much). Just because of some code duplication I wouldn't convert it to be service oriented, but he said I should use it anyway because in general it's a very good architecture, why programmers are so in love with services?? I tried to google on it but I'm still confused and can't decide what to do.

  • Enabling Hyper-V Integrated Services Time Sync Services versus Internet Time Synchronization

    Should I deselect the "Synchronize with an Internet Time Server" checkbox under the VM's "Date and Time - Internet Time Settings" tab if the "Time Synchronization Service" for a Hyper-V-based Virtual Machine is enabled? One of the Integration Services that Hyper-V provides is the Time Synchronization Service, which can be enabled/disabled by going to a VM's Settings-Integration Services setting in the Management section. I believe this is checked by default. When you install a Windows Server 2008 OS in a VM on the Hyper-V server, it comes with the "Synchronize with an Internet Time Server" option set, pointing to "time.windows.com". I'd think that if the parent Hyper-V server is set to one time server, and the child VM is pointing to a different time server, there would be a momentary blip if the two are not spot on with their times when the synchronization services run. So the question is, which time sync service should I use? I'm assuming not both. And what is the advantage of one over the other? Note: This question assumes that the machines are not joined to a domain. If they were, the machines would also try to update their time against the domain controller with the primary domain controller role too, right? Thanks!

    I have a 2008 reporting services server installed on windows 2003 server. I am trying to allow anonymous access to the report builder folder so that my users do not have to select the remember password option when they login, if they are wanting to use the report builder. All I have found so far is that I should be able to do this with the IIS manager, but that only seems to work for reporting services 2005. Reporting services 2008 does not show up in the IIS manager, enabling anonymous access seems to be hidden somewhere else. How do I enable anonymous access to report builder in reporting services 2008?

  • Reporting Services Error 401: Unauthorized

    I am trying to setup reporting services on a SQL server 2008 and get this error message when I try to connect to the http://localhost/reports The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. I asked the server administrator and the IIS should be running (can't find it under administrative tools though) I used the Reporting Services Configuration manager to setup reporting services and am pretty sure it is setup correct.

    Hi guys, I've installed SQL Server 2008 R2, but connecting to my local machine in SQL Management Studio fails: Putting "localhost" or "." as the server name results in the same error. I've narrowed down the problem: there are no SQL services installed: Bringing up the Services control panel applet shows me there are no MS SQL services installed. Things I've tried: Repair install of SQL Complete uninstall and reinstall of all MS SQL products. How can I get SQL Server running?

  • How to create alternative linux boot without starting some services

    I would like to create an alternative booting possibility in my GRUB menu that does not start some services (listed by chkconfig) like cups. I would use this boot during travel where I surely does not need these services and shorter bootup time is preferable. Permanent removal of such services is not an option because I could not miss them during normal daily work. I use Mandriva 2010 with the latest updates.

  • Script to restart BlackBerry services

    Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart.   • Recommended Win2k8 Server software to fix my RAID-0 issue

    I'm running an Asus P6T V2 Deluxe. It has six SATA ports and supports onboard RAID. I am using two of those ports for a RAID0 array of 1.5TB Seagate drives using the onboard RAID controller. One of them is giving me SMART warnings and I want to preemptively replace it. I pulled out two other 1.5TB drives from another computer and am ready to use one or both, if necessary. I can't run any SMART diagnostic software from within Windows because it only sees the hardware RAID-0 array, not each individual drive. The first thing I tried was a slow sector-by-sector copy using a free tool called EASEUS Disk Copy. Used the bootdisk, copied (took like 16 hours), unplugged the defective drive and plugged the new one in its place. The motherboard didn't recognize the new drive as being part of the known setup, so it did not want to boot. The second thing I tried was using other software (I forget the name) to copy the partition from within Windows. The first software failed because I had a server operating system. I found another software (I forget the name) which supported a server OS and did a partition copy onto the new drive. This seemed to work and the OS started to boot, but blue screened and started a reboot cycle. I'm assuming the software I was using was no good as it was trying to copy the boot disk while it was in use. I am looking for recommendations on what software to use to fix my problem without doing a re-install. Everything is backed up but my computer works fine and I'd like to avoid re-installation when possible. However, my system would be back up now if I had just started over on a second RAID array. :)

  • Network Services disabled (not starting) on Windows XP

    I am currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my system. But today, when I failed to connect to the internet, via a LAN cable, I realized that almost all of the vital network services had stopped functioning. Any attempts to start it through services.msc gives me the following message: Could not start the DNS Client Service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service group failed to start All my software or services that are related to networking have stopped functioning, for example, Windows Firewall is turned off permanently, so is my Avast Anti-Virus' service of Real Time Shields and Web Shield. When I insert the LAN wire into my laptop, it registers itself, but this is what I get when I do a ping localhost C:>ping localhost Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2 Moveover, with ipconfig I get this : Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional Information: Unable to query host name On some further poking around, I saw that none of the "NETWORK SERVICE" process in task manager, except svchost.exe were running. Also, when I first opened the task manager, I saw some 20 processes running with username column empty for most of them. With some search in Google, I found out that these services were important, DHCP DNS Net logon Network connection Network location Awareness TCP/IP Net BIOS Helper none of them, except Network Connections are working, they do not start. The event viewer of my system shows a bunch of 7000 and 7001 event errors. I have tried re installing the network driver, booting in safe mode with networking and tried to enable those services mentioned above. I had disabled System Restore some time back, so I have no restore points for my system. I tried a lot of things from Google searches but none of them worked. Also, with such a long list of issue, I am a little confused as to what should I search on the internet. :( One more thing I would like to mention, previous morning, my anti-virus Avast detected a RootKit buried deep in my system folders. It was removed, but maybe this was a problem caused by the root kit. I did run a boot-time scan but no viruses were found. Please please please advice. Is formatting and re-installation of Windows my only option?

  • Windows Services don't automatically start after reboot?

    We've got some Windows services written in .NET. They start fine manually within the services mmc, but despite being set to Automatic, they never start when powering on (or rebooting) the machine. Update In the event log, instead of seeing "xyz started", alongside all the other services starting, I just see "The xyz service entered the stopped state." and a seperate error that says "A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the slsvc service.". If I manually start them, then I get a normal in the event log as expected, and all is fine - until the next Windows Update patch which forces a reboot and all the services are off again. Any ideas? I've tried setting them to Delayed Start with no apparent difference.

  • Flowcharting tool/add-in for Visual Studio

    A 2 part question: Are flow-charts, as tool to analyze source-code, no longer considered useful? The reason I ask this question is that if you Google for source-code to flowchart tools for Visual Studio, there are no relevant results. Also, Microsoft does not seem to have a tool for this purpose. Are people just not using flowcharts that much any more? (I find them to be a great way to document complex logic in my code). Are there any VS tools that can take .Net (C#, VB.Net) code and convert it to a flowchart? (The only tool that I found is Aviosto's Visustin, which does not provide VS integration). Any other tools that you can recommend for this purpose?
