• openvpn: after changing to server mode, client does not create TUN device

  i had a previously working configuration with the config files used in a previous question However, i've changed this now to the following configuration using server mode, everything on the logs seem fine, however the client doesn't create any tun interface, so i don't have anything to connect to, presumably, i need to add or push some route commands, but i don't have any idea at this point what i need to do. • Triple Quotes? How do I delimit a databound Javascript string parameter in ASP.NET?

  How do I delimit a Javascript databound string parameter in an anchor OnClick event? I have an anchor tag in an ASP.NET Repeater control. The OnClick event of the anchor contains a call to a Javascript function. The Javascript funciton takes a string for it's input parameter. The string parameter is populated with a databound value from the Repeater. I need the 'double quotes' for the Container.DataItem. I need the 'single quotes' for the OnClick. And I still need one more delimiter (triple quotes?) for the input string parameter of the Javascript function call. Since I can't use 'single quotes' again, how do I ensure the Javascript function knows the input parameter is a string and not an integer? Without the extra quotes around the input string parameter, the Javascript function thinks I'm passing in an integer. Cheers in advance for any knowledge you can drop. There are two important cases which arise: 1) block markup comments which are the sole element on the line and may or may not begin flush left; e.g. class foo /// A one sentence brief description of foo. The elaboration can /// continue on for many lines. { ... }; void foo::bar /// A one sentence brief description of bar. The elaboration can /// continue on for many lines. • New channels for Exadata 11.2.3.1.1

  With the release of Exadata 11.2.3.1.0 back in April 2012 Oracle has deprecated the minimal pack for the Exadata Database Servers (compute nodes). From that release the Linux Database Server updates will be done using ULN and YUM. For the 11.2.3.1.0 release the ULN exadata_dbserver_11.2.3.1.0_x86_64_base channel was made available and Exadata operators could subscribe their system to it via linux.oracle.com. With the new 11.2.3.1.1 release two additional channels are added: a 'latest' channel (exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_latest) a 'patch' channel (exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch) The patch channel has the new or updated packages updated in 11.2.3.1.1 from the base channel. The latest channel has all the packages from 11.2.3.1.0 base and patch channels combined.  From here there are three possible situations a Database Server can be in before it can be updated to 11.2.3.1.1: Database Server is on Exadata release < 11.2.3.1.0 Database Server is patched to 11.2.3.1.0 Database Server is freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0 In order to bring a Database Server to 11.2.3.1.1 for all three cases the same approach for updating can be used (using YUM), but there are some minor differences: For Database Servers on a release < 11.2.3.1.0 the following high-level steps need to be performed: Subscribe to el5_x86_64_addons, ol5_x86_64_latest and  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_latest Create local repository Point Database Server to the local repository* install the update * during this process a one-time action needs to be done (details in the README) For Database Servers patched to 11.2.3.1.0: Subscribe to patch channel  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch Create local repository Point Database Server to the local repository Update the system For Database Servers freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0: Subscribe to patch channel  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch Create local  repository Point Database Server to the local repository Update the system The difference between 'situation 2' (Database Server is patched to 11.2.3.1.0) and 'situation 3' (Database Server is freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0) is that in situation 2 the existing Exadata-computenode.repo file needs to be edited while in situation 3 this file is not existing  and needs to be created or copied. Another difference is that you will end up with more OFA packages installed in situation 2. This is because none are removed during the updating process.  The YUM update functionality with the new channels is a great enhancements to the Database Server update procedure.   I believe our industry is finally starting to realize the importance of letting consumers determine how, when, and where to interact with retailers.  Over the last few months I've seen several articles discussing the importance of removing the barriers between existing channels. Paula Rosenblum of RSR first brought the term omni-channel to my attention back in September. She stated, "omni-channel retail isn’t the merging of channels – rather, it’s the use of all possible channels (present and future) to enhance the customer experience in a profitable way." I added to her thoughts in this blog posting in which I said, "For retailers to provide an omni-channel experience, there needs to be one logical representation of products, prices, promotions, and customers across all channels. The only thing that varies is the presentation of the content based on the delivery mechanism (e.g. shelf labels, mobile phone, web site, print, etc.) and often these mechanisms can be combined in various ways." More recently Brian Walker of Gartner suggested we stop using the term multi-channel and begin thinking more about consumer touch-points. "It is time for organizations to leave their channel-oriented ways behind, and enter the era of agile commerce--optimizing their people, processes and technology to serve today's empowered, ever-connected customers across this rapidly evolving set of customer touch points." Now Jason Goldberg, better known as RetailGeek, says we should start breaking down the channel silos by re-casting the VP of E-Commerce as the VP of Digital Marketing, and change his/her focus to driving sales across all channels using digital media. This logic is based on the fact that consumers switch between channels, or touch-points as Brian prefers, as part of their larger buying process. Today's smart consumer leverages the Web, mobile, and stores to provide the best shopping experience, so retailers need to make this easier. Regardless of what we call it, the key take-away is that "multi-channel" is not only an antiquated term but also an idea who's time has passed.  Today, retailers must look at e-commerce, m-commerce, f-commerce, catalogs, and traditional store sales collectively and through the consumers' eyes.  The goal is not to drive sales through each channel but rather to just drive sales -- using whatever method the customer prefers.  There really should be just one cart.

• Canny edge detection - grayscale images always coming up as 3-channel, unusable?

  I am working through the book "Learning OpenCV" from the O'Reilly series and am trying to perform a canny edge detection sample. Any grayscale image I choose seems to come up as having 3 channels, and to the best of my knowledge, canny only works with single channel images, so this always fails. I am even using the images provided by OpenCV. Here is my code.. • Retlang: What is the best way to unsubscribe from a channel?

  I'm not sure what is the best way to unsubscribe from a channel when using Retlang. When you subscribe by calling ISubscriber<T>::Subscribe(...) you are returned an IUnsubscriber. This interface has no methods. Going up a level, IChannel<T> also does not have any methods. The only thing I can think of is casting an ISubscriber<T> to the concrete Channel<T> and calling its Unsubscribe() method or adding an Unsubscribe() method to ISubscriber<T>. I'm just curious if anyone knows what they had in mind before I modify the code.

This application of ours makes use of three output screens: (1) A touch screen where all user input is made; (2) A regular LCD monitor where the requested information is being displayed; and (3) A projector which displays exactly the same signal as screen (2) does. (All screens will run at the same resolution of 1024x768 btw.) Now I figured that using a dual-head video card would be sufficient, let's say a Matrox P690 low-profile PCI card. This would involve having a Y cable connected to the graphics card itself, then two DVI-to-VGA adapters at each end of the Y cable, and then having a VGA splitter on one of the VGA outputs. The following shows the setup in question: 0--1---------2-> VGA (DSUB-15) \ \ ----2-3---------> VGA (DSUB-15) \ \ -----------------> VGA (DSUB-15) 0: graphics card (LFH60 jack) 1: LFH60 to DVI-I dual monitor Y cable 2: DVI-to-VGA adapters 3: VGA splitter cable Question(s): Will this work? I'm particularly concerned about the following points: Can a low-profile PCI video card output a signal which is strong enough for three monitors (even if it's a dual-head card)? Does the combination of so many adapters and splitter cables work? (The LFH-to-DVI cable comes with the video card) Will the VGA splitter cable degrade the signal on the output screen & projector significantly? (If so, would a USB-powered splitter cable remedy this problem?) I can't possibly expect anyone to answer all those questions, but any input is appreciated.

• Can I use an nVidia Geforce 9600GT for triple-monitor?

  My work PC has (as you can guess from the title) a single Geforce 9600GT card. According to the spec page for this card, both DVI ports are Dual-Link DVI. Both are currently in use on Dell 19" 1280x1024 screens. I'm running Windows 7, with Aero enabled, for what that's worth. What I'm wondering is if I can use a standard DVI splitter cable to drive a third screen from one of the ports -- specifically a Samsung 22" 1680x1050. I'm really outgrowing the two-screen setup, and am strongly considering bringing in my home monitor (which is almost never used) to bolster my usable space. If I can't, then my alternative is to replace one of these Dells with that Samsung, to give me at least a "little" more space. (Before you ask, there's probably no chance I can get my company to spring for a second video card and third monitor. Even if I could, it would not be politically expedient, as a number of my other coworkers are already pretty jealous at my setup.)

• Do you know of any ways to effectively manage a triple screen setup brightness?

  I use a desktop with multiple monitors I have tried F.lux and it is a great app for changing the color from 3500k-6500k... but doesn't adjust screen brightness. (I recommend you try it) I've googled for hours trying to find an app that will work to let me easily manage screen brightness either by a "dim when idle" or a dynamically updating screen brightness based on the time of day. Windows 7 desktop doesn't seem to have options for me to adjust brightness on the system, and manually changing three separate monitors is too much of a chore? Anybody have some recommendations? Perhaps a way to script this, knowledge of how to use the supposed dynamic screen brightness functions that Windows was supposed to add in Windows 7?

• Why can't I connect to a Cisco wireless access point?

  I'm running a Lucid Netbook Remix on my Dell Inspiron 600m and I was not able to connect to the wireless network at the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View yesterday. There were plenty of other people on the network - MS, Mac, and Linux boxes - but my laptop would never get an ip address. I can connect to my home network, which is open, and I've never had a problem connecting at the coffee shop, which uses WPA. The Hacker Dojo is running WPA and we checked the password a number of times but got no love. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
