  I am trying to set rsync tasks to Pull user profiles from 11 Windows machines running DeltaCopy Server and then configure ZFS periodic snapshot tasks for a backup solution. So far this has been working fine, although i would like to exclude certain file types like .DAT or NTUSER.DAT. My Exclusion file resides on the local ZFS Dataset (Receiving side) and is as follows: Temp Temporary Internet Files NTUSER.DAT NTUSER.DAT.LOG *.dat *.tmp *.DAT.log *.ost *.pst The command i typed under Auxiliary Parameters (Rsyncd Global Conf under services)is as follows: exclude from = /mnt/Storage/User_Profiles/exclude.txt Ive tried deleting the .DAT files from the receiving end and just as i start to get excited i click refresh and there they are again

  I have been googling about the differences between them. Bacula has lots of roles BackupPC is easier to configure Bacula works with agent, not rsync (great for Windows backups) It seems that Bacula is most often compared to Amanda though, while BackupPC seems a perfectly lovely and popular backup distribution to. I currently backup my servers with rsnapshot, but I am looking for a professional scalable solution that could also back-up 50 hosts without problems. Preferably a solution that can offer bare metal restores for my Linux servers. I am not looking to reinstall the exact same version of Plesk, the software, etc...

• Remote Desktop fails after VPN connection.

  The remote computer is connected with Remote Desktop. When the remote computer is connected to VPN the Remote Destop freezes. It is not possible to connect to the remote computer again via Remote Desktop. What can be done to connect to this remote computer after it establishes a VPN connection? The only thing that comes to my mind is to install a second NIC and configure Remote Desktop to accept connection from this NIC while VPN is working from the other... What do you suggest?

• Firewalling a Cisco ASA Split tunnel

  I have a Cisco ASA 5510 at head office, and Cisco ASA 5505 in remote offices. The remote offices are connected over a split tunnelled VPN - the ASA 5505s use "Easy VPN" Client type VPN in Network Extension Mode (NEM). I'd like to set firewall rules for the non-tunnelled traffic only. Traffic over the VPN to head office should not have any firewall rules applied. I might want to apply different firewall rules to different remote offices. All the documentation I have been able to find assumes the Client VPN is a software endpoint, and all the configuration is done at the 5510. When using a Cisco 5505 as the VPN client, is it possible to configure any firewalling at the Client end, or does it all have to come from the 5510? Are there any other issues to look out for when split-tunnelling a VPN by this method?

  Hi, I set NFS for server-client that works properly. Now I am trying to set NIS server-client on same PC's. I am following the instruction from "SettingUpNISHowTo" from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNISHowTo link. But in step-10, "sudo /etc/init.d/nis restart".......it show error fail. If I try to use "ypcat passwd" to check......it shows error YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't bind to server which serves this domain Can anyone able to help me to get rid out from this problem? Is all the step in the document is proper to configure the NIS server? • Delay index build until SQL Server table load is complete with SSIS

  I have a large table that I am updating. Is it possible to disable index updates on the destination table until the load is complete? It seems like a waste for it to be constantly updating the index with each commit. I can just drop and recreate the index before and after the load, I just want to know if there is a quick way to configure that in the OLEDB or SQL Server destination. Server is Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition, running SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition with SSIS.

It showed the following output java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) I am not sure if jdk1.7.0 is installed as its showing the version as 1.6.0_26.

• Multiple SSIDs better or worse

  I'm just setting up a network in a student house with 10 rooms, 3 floors. Configuration at the moment is as follows: Virgin Media 100mb Cable Virgin SuperHub on ground floor broadcasting on SSID1 Second AP(Edimax) wired on middle floor broadcasting on SSID2 These two networks server all 3 floors fairly well but I was wondering whether it would be better to setup an individual SSID for each floor (both the routers allow me to configure up to 3 ssids on each!). Would this help with speed issues, i.e if someone on the top floor is downloading/streaming etc, this wouldn't affect someone on the middle floor on a different SSID Or, will it have no effect? • How do I access an Ubuntu VirtualBox guest at a static IP from an OS X host?

  How does one configure an Ubuntu guest to use a static IP that's visible to an OS X host, and ensure that the static IP is independent of the host's network configuration? I previously used bridged networking for my guest, but I'm constantly moving my host between networks so the guest IP is always different. First, I tried setting the guest network configuration to NAT and forwarding host port 1022 to guest port 22, so I could at least ssh to a fixed address (localhost:1022): $ VBoxManage setextradata "Ubuntu Server" "VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/0/LUN#0/Config/SSH/Protocol" "TCP" $ VBoxManage setextradata "Ubuntu Server" "VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/0/LUN#0/Config/SSH/GuestPort" 22 $ VBoxManage setextradata "Ubuntu Server" "VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/0/LUN#0/Config/SSH/HostPort" 1022 Then, $ ssh localhost -p 1022 ssh: connect to host localhost port 1022: Connection refused But this didn't work (guest has no network access with NAT and OS X refused the connection, as you can see). • Routing from the DMZ to the interior network only

  I have a home network connected to Verizon's FIOS service. Verizon's ActionTec router is connected to the ONT via coax to establish the MOCA network. My DD-WRT router's WAN port is connected to one of the ActionTec's LAN ports. The DD-WRT router is configured with a static IP address and assigned to the DMZ (this is done so I only have to configure port forwarding once). My issue is that this does not allow computers connected to the DD-WRT to serve streaming audio/video to the MOCA network using Verizon's Media Manager. I know that Media Manager uses ports 18001, 5050, and 5060, but I don't know how to forward those ports so that they are only available to the ActionTec's network and not the rest of the internet.

• A website hosted on the 1.0.0.0/8 subnet, somewhere on the Internet?

  Background I'm attempting to demonstrate, using a real-world example, of why someone would not want to configure their internal network on the 1.0.0.0/8 subnet. Obviously it's because this is not designated as private address space. As of 2010, ARIN has apparently allocated 1.0.0.0/8 to APNIC (the Asia-Pacific NIC), who seems to have begun assigning addresses in that subnet, though not in 1.1.0.0/16, 1.0.0.0/16, and others (because these addresses are so polluted by bad network configurations all around the Internet). My Question My question is this: I'd like to find a website that responds on this subnet somewhere and use it as a counter-example, demonstrating to a non-technical user its inaccessibility from an internal network configured on 1.0.0.0/8. Other than writing a program to sniff all ~16 million hosts, looking for a response on port 80, does anyone know of a directory I can use, or even better yet, does anyone know of a site that's configured on this subnet? WHOIS seems to be too general of a search for me at this point...

  Hello, How can I configure stunnel to accpet SSL connections, and connect then to an SSL port on a different server? Here is my setup: Our ISP's server, "Mail Server", supports smtp/imap over SSL. (Not starttls. Just over ssl.) But, I have a bunch of client machines that will only trust a specific, internal, root certificate. Thus, they can not connect to "Mail Server". For these client machines, I'd like to make a dedicated "Mail Tunnel" host that uses stunnel to listen with an in-house signed SSL certificate, and just forward data to "Mail Server" using a 2nd SSL connection. Can this be done? What would be the specific steps for Ubuntu Server 10.10? (I'm not too familiar with persistent service configuration.) Thank you

• Replicating EFS encrypted files

  Recently I attempted to configure Microsoft's DFSR on Windows 2008 R2 to replicate a folder which was encrypted with EFS. The setup gave no errors or warnings, but later I read that DFSR does not support EFS in any way. • How to prevent mod_cluster as single point failure?

  In my configuration i used Apche+mod_cluster as a front_end(load balancer) server and two JBOSS AS 7.1.0 as backend server. In my configuration on one system i have install Apache+mod_cluster + JBOSS AS 7.1.0 and on other system JBOSS AS 7.1.0. Both JBOSS AS 7.1.0 are in domain mode means in clustering. My problem is that if Apche+mod_cluster crash than client can not access any JBOSS AS . I want to configure Apache+mod_cluster in Master_Slave format, means if one of Apache+mod_cluter down another Apache+mod_cluster become active and pass client(browser) request to back-end server in normal form without any interruption. Is there any way to make two Apache+mod_cluster to communicate with each other , means to check health status of each other and if any one get down other Apche+mod_cluster will do it's task ......

  I know this can be done on Linux with JIRA, using mod_proxy, but I'm not sure if its possible on Windows: Say we have a Windows server running IIS 7.0 and serving up pages on port 80, via an address like: http://twiddle.something.com We then install JIRA on the server, it uses its bundles Apache web server to serve stuff up on port 8080, like this: http://twiddle.something.com:8080 Is there a way to configure IIS and Apache so that JIRA runs off a port 80 folder, as in: http://twiddle.something.com still hits IIS http://twiddle.something.com/Jira hits JIRA on Apache? • Limit maximum incoming connections to a port using iptables

  I have a server that has apache listening on a number of ports. Some ports are used for configuring the server, and another is used to download large files. My problem is that when I have a large number of clients downloading files, the web interface is uncontactable. I would like to limit the number of clients connecting on the "large file" port so that apache always has available connections to configure the server. A REJECT is fine, the client trying to download the file will back off and retry later. Each client only has one connection open to the server at a time, so limiting by IP won't work. I know I could put something in front of apache to manage this, but I'd really like to do it in iptables, without adding more software.

  I've a fujitsu lifebook S7220, it's been a while since i try to configure it to use a dual head with centos 5.4 x86_64. Everytime I try, the xserver crash... • Forward emails from specific domain in Exchange

  Our Exchange server handles emails for @ourdomain.com (for example). We have multiple clients that will send emails to our [email protected] email address and we want to configure server-side rules that will forward emails from each client's domain to a different email address within our exchange server. For example: [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] and we forward it to [email protected] [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] and we forward it to [email protected] ...and so on. It would be nice if we can additionally stop the email arriving in the [email protected] mailbox, but that is not a specific requirement. We have a rule setup in Outlook that sort of works, but it doesn't do all from a domain only specific email addresses. It does work when Outlook is not running which is a start. I realise it would be easier to give each client a partiuclar email address and have them email straight to that rather than all use the same, but this is what I have been asked to setup.... :S

• mount dev, proc, sys in a chroot environment?

  I'm trying to create a Linux image with custom picked packages. I followed the guide here http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4766.0 However, when I tried to install some packages, it failed to configure due to missing the proc, sys, dev directories. So, I learned from other places that I need to "mount" the host proc, ... directories to my chroot environment. Though, I saw two syntax and am not sure which one to use. In host machine: mount --bind /proc <chroot dir>/proc and another syntax (in chroot envrionment): mount -t proc none /proc Which one should I use, and what are the difference? Edit: What I'm trying to do is to hand craft the packages I'm going to use on an XO laptop, because compiling packages takes really long time on the real XO hardware, if I can build all the packages I need and just flash the image to the XO, I can save time and space.

• Link bonding across multiple switches?

  I've read up a little bit on bonding nics with ifenslave; what I'm having trouble understanding is whether there is special configuration needed in order to split the bonds across two switches. For example, if I have several servers that all have two nics each, and two separate switches, do I just configure the bonds and plug 1 nic from each into switch #1 and the other from each into switch #2? or is there more to it than that? If the bonds are active-backup, will a nic failure on single machine mean that server may become disconnected since the rest of the machines are using the primary nic and it's using the secondary? Or do you link the switches with one cable as well?

  Hi I want to use paltalk, which is a kind of chat software, but the ports that this applications uses are closed in my country. What I need to do is to use a proxy server. Unfortunately the software itself does not provide a proxy setting.   im new to LDAP. i wonder what are some concrete examples of using LDAP. things that are MUCH more easier to do when you got 3-7 linux computers in a small company network. one use that is very important for me seems to be that you configure LDAP to handle system authentication. then you dont have to create same accounts in all computers. are there other things that are a MUST DO for a small network to save more time? my small network is for apache servers and database servers. and should LDAP be in an own machine? cause i guess its not good to put it in apache or database servers since these are performance dependent.

  1) What are keepalived's (physical/network) requirements? Does the two (or more) keepalived' nodes need to be connected to the same switch? (something related to broadcasting maybe). 2) Can keepalived nodes run on different networks, "internet" networks? 3) Is keepalived depend on the router? (as far as I understand, the virtual IP should point to the real router/switch that connects both nodes). 4) Is keepalived "service-independent"? - What is keepalived's involvement domain? IPs only? Or is it service/protocol oriented? - Does it deal ONLY with IP, or is it designed for HTTP for example? - In other words, can I use it for custom (network-based) app? 5) Have more than one failover server? If the answer for question #4 is "yes", i.e it depends on the service type, then is there any general alternative? Preferably easy to install/configure :)

  I need to configure windows NLB on 2 dedicated servers I have. My main machine has been running for some time, with several domain names pointing to the servers primary IP address. Both servers have 2 NIC's installed, and both have several secondary public IP addresses available if needed? What IP address would I use for the cluster IP, does this IP need to be added to the IP list of both public NIC's ip address list? What IP addresses do I use for the host's dedicated IP? Please help, this is driving me nuts...i've taken down the server twice on accident today! UPDATE: Looking to hire a windows SysAdmin to solve! I have updated my question, i would like to hire a trusted windows SysAdmin to take care of this for me, preferably today...can anyone help and provide some credentials please? Thank you in advance!
