  Hello guys, I need to know if this can be done and if so can someone push me in the right direction. • Minimizing MySQL output with Compress() and by concatening results?

  Hi all. It is crucial that I transfer the least amount of data possible between server and client. Therefore I thought of using the mysql Compress() function. To get the max compression I also want to concatenate all my results in one large string (or several of max length allowed by MySql), to allow for similar results to be compressed, and then compress these/that string. 1st problem (concatenating mysql results): SELECT name,age FROM users returns 10 results. I want to concatenate all these results in one strign on the form: name,age,name,age,name,age... and so on. Is this possible? 2nd problem (compressing the results from above) When I have comstructed the concatenated string as above I want to compress it. If I do: SELECT COMPRESS('myname'); then it just gives me as output the character '-' - sometimes it even returns unprintable characters. How do I get COMPRESS() to return a compressed printable string that I can trasnfer in ex ASCII encoding?

• I have a problem with a AE1200 Cisco/Linksys Wireless-N USB adapter having stopped working after I ran the update manager in Ubuntu 12.04

  Here is the problem, I use a Cisco/Linksys AE1200 wireless network adapter to connect my desktop to a public wifi internet connection. I use ndiswrapper to use the windows driver and it had been working fine for me untill I ran the update manager overnight a few days ago. • Automatically select headphones when plugged in

  When I plug headphones into my desktop computer, they are not automatically selected for output, instead all sound still goes through my S/PDIF output to the stereo. Also, after listening with the headphones and then unplug them, the previous output is not automatically selected, so I have no sound at all then. • Is the output of Eclipse's incremental java compiler used in production? Or is it simply to support Eclipse's features?

  I'm new to Java and Eclipse. One of my most recent discoveries was how Eclipse comes shipped with its own java compiler (ejc) for doing incremental builds. Eclipse seems to by default output incrementally built class files to the projRoot/bin folder. I've noticed too that many projects come with ant files to build the project that uses the java compiler built into the system for doing the production builds. Coming from a Windows/Visual Studio world where Visual Studio is invoking the compiler for both production and debugging, I'm used to the IDE having a more intimate relationship with the command-line compiler. I'm used to the project being the make file. So my mental model is a little off. Is whats produced by Eclipse ever used in production? Or is it typically only used to support Eclipse's features (ie its intellisense/incremental building/etc)? Is it typical that for the final "release" build of a project, that ant, maven, or another tool is used to do the full build from the command line? Mostly I'm looking for the general convention in the Eclipse/Java community. I realize that there may be some outliers out there who DO use ecj in production, but is this generally frowned upon? Or is this normal/accepted practice?

  I have an object containing the results of a computation. This computation is performed in a function which accepts an input object and returns the result object. The result object has a print method. This print method must print out the results, but in order to perform this operation I need the original input object. I cannot pass the input object at printing because it would violate the signature of the print function. One solution I am using right now is to have the result object hold a pointer to the original input object, but I don't like this dependency between the two, because the input object is mutable. How would you design for such case ?

  Given some string fragments, I would like to find the shortest possible single string ("output string") that contains all the fragments. Fragments can overlap each other in the output string. Example: For the string fragments: BCDA AGF ABC The following output string contains all fragments, and was made by naive appending: BCDAAGFABC However this output string is better (shorter), as it employs overlaps: ABCDAGF ^ ABC ^ BCDA ^ AGF I'm looking for algorithms for this problem. It's not absolutely important to find the strictly shortest output string, but the shorter the better. I'm looking for an algorithm better than the obvious naive one that would try appending all permutations of the input fragments and removing overlaps (which would appear to be NP-Complete). I've started work on a solution and it's proving quite interesting; I'd like to see what other people might come up with. I'll add my work-in-progress to this question in a while.

• Fixing a collision detection bug in Slick2D

  My game has a bug with collision detection. If you go against the wall and tap forward/back sometimes the game thinks the speed you travelled at is 0 and the game doesn't know how to get you out of the wall. My collision detection works by getting the speed you hit the wall at and if it is positive it moves you back, if it is negative it moves you forward. • How can I use smbclient to connect to Windows shares by hostname when a firewall is enabled?

  I can't connect to file shares on Windows computers using smbclient -L //hostname when the firewall is enabled. This occurs whether I'm using ufw (which allows outgoing traffic and replies back in with the default configuration) or iptables (where I'm allowing outgoing traffic and replies back in with iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT). However, smbclient -L //ip-address works whether the firewall is enabled or not. I also tested this against a Samba server running on Ubuntu and again smbclient -L //hostname does not work when the firewall is enabled, but smbclient -L //ip-address works whether the firewall is enabled or not.   I've been searching around for some time now, but nothing solves my problem. I'm setting up a mail server, but when writing to the iptables, I get an error: iptables-restore: line 2 failed. • How to store multiple variables from a File Input of unknown size in Java?

  I'm a total beginner with my first programming assignment in Java. For our programming assignment, we will be given a .txt file of students like so: 3 345 Lisa Miller 890238 Y 2 <-(Number of classes) Mathematics MTH345 4 A Physics PHY357 3 B Bill Wilton 798324 N 2 English ENG378 3 B Philosophy PHL534 3 A Dandy Goat 746333 Y 1 History HIS101 3 A" The teacher will give us a .txt file on the day of turning it in with a list of unknown students. My problem is: I have a specific class for turning the data from the file into variables to be used for a different class in printing it to the screen. However, I do not know of a good way to get the variables from the input file for the course numbers, since that number is not predetermined. The only way I can think of to iterate over that unknown amount is using a loop, but that would just overwrite my variables every time. Also, the teacher has requested that we not use any JCL classes (I don't really know what this means.) Sorry if I have done a poor job of explaining this, but I can't think of a better way to conceptualize it. Let me know if I can clarify. I can fix this by changing the program to pass cmd by reference when calling scanf and strcmp. The segfault goes away and is replaced by warnings for each use of strcmp at compile time. Despite the warnings, the affected code works. warning: passing arg 1 of 'strcmp' from incompatible pointer type As an added bonus, modifying the scanf and strcmp calls allows the program to progress far enough to execute return(0), at which point the thing crashes with an Abort trap. If I swap out return(0) for exit(0) then everything works as expected. This leaves me with two questions: why was the original program wrong? How can I fix it better than I have? The bit about needing to use exit instead of return has me especially baffled.

  Hi, I have a number of elements that i want to loop through as groups. Consider this HTML: <input class="matching match-1" /> <input class="matching match-1" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-2" /> <input class="matching match-3" /> <input class="matching match-3" /> // etc I want a CSS selector that would allow me to loop through these as groups so there would be - using this example - 3 iterations of the loop (one for match-1, one for match-2 and one for match-3). The 1,2,3 etc is a variable used for grouping but this is not fixed so it cannot rely on hard coding of these values. Is this even possible? I'll be using jQuery or prototype not that that should matter really. Thanks
