    0 vote down star I am using GridView in asp .net and editing data with edit command field property (as we know after updating the edited row, we automatically update the database), and I want to use transactions (with begin to commit statement - including rollback) to commit this update query in database, after clicking in some button (after some events for example), not automatically to insert or update the edited data from grid directly to the DB...so I want to save them somewhere temporary (even many edited rows - not just one row) and then to confirm the transaction - to update the real tables in database... Any suggestions are welcomed...   • Does performance even matter anymore? [closed]

    The performance differences between C/C++ and C# are astounding. An ASP.NET page loads in 1/8 the time that a PHP script does haha.... WPF, aka " The Future ", (you know it will be, all the companies are gonna want cool looking desktop apps, don't kid yourself.) And it has huge performance hits just to start up. We've let Microsoft make us as developers lazy! Why do I hate this, it's such a good thing? Are we at a point in time where the majority of computers can handle this kinda crap? I remember when performance used to matter. Anyways, I'm writing a .NET library and ever since I found out LINQ is slower than traditional delegates which is slower than the normal procedural code... well it's a guilty evil I feel for every LINQ query I write, because they are so beautiful. Am I just too much of a performance stickler? Or just too big of a nerd?

  • Databind Parent/Child relation with Mysql

    What is the best way to databind parent/child relations? Lets say I have two simple objects: Parent with the following properties, ParentId, Name and Childs and Child with the following properties, ChildId, Name and Parent. I want to write a repository using MySql for this but is failing when I bind both Childs and Parent properties, I have only been able to bind either the Childs property of parent or the Parent property och Child or else I would get a infinite loop. Thinking of it the preferable solution would be to only bind this properties when requested. If I use Linq to sql i would be able to write Parent.Childs[0].Parent.Name but how should I accomplish this with my own repository and with MySql, could anyone point me in the right direction? Looking at the Linq 2 sql generated classes they use EntitySet<Child and EntityRef<Parent could this be used with Mysql? I had a thought of using my IChildRepository in the Parent object and let the Public IEnumerable Childs databind the childs but it seems not right? Best regards E2k

    Hello, Im followed the tutorial from here: Twitter Client Tutorial to make a little twitter app. Now I need to find out how to parse the XML twitter gives you when you make a request. I've looked at tons of tutorials on phrasing xml on the iPhone but none have made much sense because Im still new to cocoa. Twitter stores the text of the tweet in something like this <text> Some tweet here </text>. From reading the tutorials I think this would involve nsxmlparser but I'm not sure. If anyone could share some code that could parse the <text> Some tweet here </text> things into an array that would be really great. Thanks in advance

  • nHibernate session - Using repository pattern in Web, windows, wcf etc...

    I recently posted a question which was answered by Bryan Watts, regarding generic repository for nHibernate. I'm trying to design my data access to allow various facets - from ASP.net, WCF and Windows Forms / Windows services. I'm a bit confused re: session management etc.. How would I handle this? I've been checking out code such as: http://membranecms.googlecode.com/svn/ and questions such as: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1207833/nhibernate-linq-session-management But what do i do if i don't just do things in a web based environment..? Do i need to create different repositories for each client? Or do i pass in the ISession into the (for example) UserRepository constructor..? ... as a side note I'm using nHibernate.Linq Also using fluent nHibernate to config my mapping

  • Problem using System.Xml in unit test in MonoDevelop (MonoTouch)

    I'm new to the MonoDevelop and MonoTouch environment so hopefully I'm just missing something easy here. When I have a unit test that requires the System.Xml or System.Xml.Linq namespaces, I get the following error when I run the test: System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Things I've verified: I have the proper usings in the test. The project builds with no problems. Using these namespaces work fine when I run the app in the emulator. I've written a very simple unit test to prove that unit testing works at all (and it does). I'm a test driven kinda guy so I can't wait to get this working so I can progress with my app. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I'm very new to Git and I've been following this online tutorial for converting my existing SVN repository to a Git repository and am stuck at the final hurdle. http://www.jonmaddox.com/2008/03/05/cleanly-migrate-your-subversion-repository-to-a-git-repository/ On the last step of the tutorial it says to do this: git clone my_blog_tmp my_blog However, when I do, I get the following error: fatal: 'my_blog_tmp' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Some points: 1) I'm entering the above command from within the "my_blog_tmp" directory 2) I've tried entering "git init" to make sure Git is initialised inside the "my_blog_tmp" folder but no joy.     Hi, I am developing a Blackberry app which should be able to access a DB. Here is my development environment and the tools I am using: Eclipse (Galileo) IDE with the Blackberry plugin installed. Blackberry OS 5.0 SQLAnywhere's DB 11 with UltraLiteJ (I am targeting Blackberrys running OS 4.1 and above) I have successfully executed a sample project for building a Blackberry application that uses the UltraLiteJ DB, following the tutorial in the UltraLiteJ documentation*. The tutorial creates, populates and retrieves data from the DB using java code. Now, I want to be able to access the tables and view data in them from the Eclipse IDE. Something similar to the FireFox plugin for SqlLite or say the Enterprise Manager for Sql Server 2005 which is a DB Explorer providing access to the StoredProcedures, Views, DB Diagrams etc. for a Database.   • NerdDinner difficulties

    Hello guys, I'm having a problem with the Create method of the NerdDinner tutorial, which is very good BTW. As you can see here http://nerddinnerbook.s3.amazonaws.com/Part5.htm in the Create method, he removed the ID field of the aspx page. I did that too, but I cannot add any dinners because I get a primary key violation. How is NerdDinner controlling the ids of each dinner? I revised the tutorial and could not see any references to identity fields on SQL database. I even created a method to get me the highest id in the table: public int GetHighestDinnerId() { int resultado = (from dinner in dataContext.Dinners select dinner.DinnerId).Max(); return resultado; } which does not work either. Any thoughts? Thank you

  • Exposing headers on iPhone static library

    Hello guys, I've followed this tutorial for setting up a static library with common classes from 3 projects we are working on. It's pretty simple, create a new static library project on xcode, add the code there, a change some headers role from project to public. The tutorial says I should add my library folder to the header search paths recursively. Is this the right way to go? I mean, on my library project, I have files separated in folders like Global/, InfoScreen/, Additions/. I was trying to setup one LOKit.h file on the root folder, and inside that file #import everything I need to expose. So on my host project I don't need to add the folder recursively to the header search path, and would just #import "LOKit.h". But I couldn't get this to work, the host project won't build complaining about all the classes I didn't add to LOKit.h, even though the library project builds. So, my question is, what is the right way of exposing header files when I setup a Cocoa Touch Static Library project on xCode?

    Hello all. I am following the the tutorial at http://www.py2exe.org/index.cgi/Tutorial to figure out how to use py2exe. I get down to step 3 where you are suppose to run the command: python setup.py py2exe I do that and then I get this error: 'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I have python 2.4 installed on my machine. any idea's? I am sure it is something simple.

    Dear All, I am creating a simple game, where I would like more than one player to be able to connect and play. With regards to a single player game, I am more than comfortable with the coding. I cannot seem to figure out how to connect up more than one player and update their screens when the each player moves. So far I have the players connecting, but I still need to be able update the SharedObject when a player moves, then push it out to the other players. I have searched high and low for a good tutorial / source code to review. Code So Far A tutorial i found so far listened for a click as it was a mouse based movement, then this told the SHaredObject to tell the client (and the others) to update that clients movement. However all of my movement is listend and acted on in the playership class.

    Hi I'm somewhat of a newbie to python and I'm using app engine and aptanna studio - I need to run some python shell commands so that i can complete the tasks in this Tutorial on how to set up 118 and django. I have got this all working but i don't understand how i run the python commands to compile the dictionarys such as $ PYTHONPATH=/path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/ /path/to/googleappengine/python/lib/django/django/bin/make-messages.py -a To be honest - why am i saying that! I dont know where in aptanna studio i run this command -then worse I don't quite understand what exactly i type based on the above command line. My path to google app engine is D:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\ Can anyone help shed some light on how i do this from aptanna / the root of my project??
