• Where to find Android Development Homework Problems

  Ok so I am starting off with android development and I have found a bunch of useful tutorials so I am set there. What I am looking for is a resource that provides homework style problems to do and has the answers downloadable so I can check my solution against the "official" solution. So for example instead of the notepad tutorial it would be: "Build an application that you can create, edit, delete notes, ...etc.". Ideally the "official" solution would have some explanation as to why they built it the way they did. (so a tutorial at the tail end) Anyone know of any resources that provide their tutorials in this format? Thanks.

  I'm getting the error: Line 49: xml = r.ReadToEnd(); Line 50: Line 51: System.Xml.Linq.XDocument xmlDoc = System.Xml.Linq.XDocument.Parse(xml); Line 52: Line 53: var query = from p in xmlDoc.Descendants("member") On my XML. When I run the code to generate the XML in an empty page, it runs without error, if I call the code within my webpage it throws this error. The only 'nbsp' on the page is a doctype declaration at the top of the XSLT: <!DOCTYPE xsl:stylesheet [ <!ENTITY nbsp "&#x00A0;"> ]> I'm at a loss as to where this error is coming from and I am looking for suggestions please! • Easiest Way to Parse data from twitter with Cocoa

  Hello, I've followed the tutorial from here: Twitter Client Tutorial to make a little twitter app. Now I need to find out how to parse the XML twitter gives you when you make a request. I've looked at tons of tutorials on phrasing xml on the iPhone but none have made much sense because Im still new to cocoa. Twitter stores the text of the tweet in something like this <text> Some tweet here </text>. From reading the tutorials I think this would involve nsxmlparser but I'm not sure. If anyone could share some code that could parse the <text> Some tweet here </text> things into an array that would be really great. Thanks in advance

  I am using GridView in asp .net and editing data with edit command field property (as we know after updating the edited row, we automatically update the database), and I want to use transactions (with begin to commit statement - including rollback) to commit this update query in database, after clicking in some button (after some events for example), not automatically to insert or update the edited data from grid directly to the DB...so I want to save them somewhere temporary (even many edited rows - not just one row) and then to confirm the transaction - to update the real tables in database... Any suggestions are welcomed...   This is a very simple task in every language I have ever used, but I can't seem to figure it out in PowerShell. An example of what I'm talking about in C: abs(x + y) The expression x + y is evaluated, and the result passed to abs as the parameter... how do I do that in PowerShell? The only way I have figured out so far is to create a temporary variable to store the result of the expression, and pass that. PowerShell seems to have very strange grammar and parsing rules that are constantly catching me by surprise, just like this situation. Does anyone know of documentation or a tutorial that explains the basic underlying theory of the language? I can't believe these are all special cases, there must be some rhyme or reason that no tutorial I have yet read explains. And yes, I've read this question, and all of those tutorials are awful. I've pretty much been relegated to learning from existing code.

I walked through the tutorial for Py++, using the tutorial files, and I got the expected output in generated.cpp, but I haven't figured out what to do in order to actually use the generated code as an extension I can import in Python. I'm sure I have to compile the code, now, but with what? Am I supposed to use bjam?

  I know Python but I've never used Django. What do I need to know about Django 1.2 to port my typical PHP CRUD web application in one weekend? (Yes I've read Joel Spolsky's Netscape article :-)) I'm reading this tutorial right now and it's excellent. I'm already playing around with inspectdb to generate my models from the existing schema. I'm planning to use the following features of Django this weekend: Fragment caching Static asset versioning (for far future expires) Schema migrations (or whatever they're called in Django) Auto-admin (and customize it later) The test framework ...other stuff I probably don't know about yet I'm familiar with all these concepts in other languages/frameworks, except for the ORM which I've never used. I know SQL pretty well though. Any links, sage bits of advice, gotchas, stuff not mentioned in the (excellent) tutorial/docs, or stuff that is mentioned but warrants repeating == very welcome. • How to add "make install" target to simple Eclipse C project

  I have a simple Eclipse C project. Is there a way to add a "make install" target to the generated makefile? I can't seem to find the right search keywords to find any useful information in the doc or by googling (i.e. there is too much noise and no signal.) I tried creating a simple project using the autotools plug-in but without being able to find any useful doc or tutorial that starts from scratch with a single C source file, I couldn't even get the project to build. Edit: I'll take an answer based on using the autotools plug-in if I can get my project to build. I don't see how to add an include dir (-I) a link dir (-L) or additional link libs to a new Hello World autotools C project. Is there any simple autotools plug-in tutorial that covers this?

• Having trouble with post-commit hook

  I am following this tutorial that is like the hello world for post-commit I am using unbuntu 10.04. I installed svnnotify and ran $ which svnnotify which output: /usr/bin/svnnotify so I changed the path in the turorial from /usr/local/bin/svnnotify to /usr/bin/svnnotify I also tried changing the line: #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash since bash is the login shell in ubuntu 10.04. I tried to run it the way the tutorial originally had it, with my changes, and combinations of the two. Everytime the commit is successful but I get Warning: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with no output. The original way had output not found I am very new to linux and shell scripting and have exhausted everything I can think of. What am I doing wrong?

  I've been hearing about WCF for a couple of years now, and I still don't get it. I understand that it's supposed to be a replacement for web services, remoting, MSMQ, and a few other things. The trouble is, every tutorial I find assumes that I've done one of those things, and it tends to follow the line of "Here are the differences; you know the rest." But I don't know the rest! So: Do you know of any tutorial articles, books, etc. that assume that the reader knows C# or VB .NET, but nothing about web services, MSMQ, remoting, and all those other technologies that WCF replaces?

  Only a few people recommended to use Sphinx at the beginning of the year. Sphinx has developed rather fast recently. I noted today that Sage has made a change from direct editing with LaTex to Sphinx. This is evident in William Stein's answer on 2nd April about Sage's tutorial The tutorial is not a latex document anymore. It's an entirely different Sphinx document that can output pdf. It suggests me that Sphinx may be at a level such that it is suitable for me. Is Sphinx better than LaTex in writing manuals/books?

I'm trying to get started with java development, and develop 2d games, but I can't get the project to run.   Do you know any book, blog, tutorial which explains in a detailed way the use of some open source projects? Maybe you have written such a tutorial, example of open source libraries, and your final product is great for a beginner to understand it. I'm in the learning stage of OOP and I really need to learn by examples. I'll like to find some text which explains the use of some open source software/libraries and the good practices. Beign honestly I feel scared to use the open source libraries as I wish/think at this moment. I feel like as I still write procedural code and not OOP. Do you know such tutorials, links, blogs, stories, pages? PS: I know C and PHP. I can't say that I know C++ yet, and that's why I need your help.
