    I'm looking for a concise and functional style way to apply a function to one element of a tuple and return the new tuple, in Python. For example, for the following input: inp = ("hello", "my", "friend") I would like to be able to get the following output: out = ("hello", "MY", "friend") I came up with two solutions which I'm not satisfied with. One uses a higher-order function. def apply_at(arr, func, i): return arr[0:i] + [func(arr[i])] + arr[i+1:] apply_at(inp, lambda x: x.upper(), 1) One uses list comprehensions (this one assumes the length of the tuple is known). [(a,b.upper(),c) for a,b,c in [inp]][0] Is there a better way? Thanks!

    This is the way I get to prevent funA,funB,funC, etc.. for being used before init #define INIT_KEY 0xC0DE //any number except 0, is ok static int initialized=0; int Init() { //many init task initialized=INIT_KEY; } int funA() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } int funB() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } int funC() { if (initialized!=INIT_KEY) return 1 //.. } The problem with this approach is that if some of those function is called within a loop so "if (initialized!=INIT_KEY)" is called again, and again, although it's not necessary. It's a good example of why constructors are useful haha, If it were an object I would be sure that when was created initialization was called, but in C, I don't know how to do it. Any other ideas are welcome!

    I want to add the return value from the function call to an array iff something is returned (not by default, i.e. if I have a return statement in the subroutine.) so I'm using unshift @{$errors}, "HashValidator::$vfunction($hashref)"; but this actually adds the string of the function call to the array. I also tried unshift @{$errors}, $temp if defined my $temp = "HashValidator::$vfunction($hashref)"; with the same result. What would a perl one-liner look like that does this efficiently (I know I can do the ugly, multi-line check but I want to learn). Thanks,

    I'm usin the OpenPrinter function and the first parameter the function gets called "pPrinterName" and that's it's MSDN description: [in] Pointer to a null-terminated string that specifies the name of the printer or print server, the printer object, the XcvMonitor, or the XcvPort. For a printer object use: PrinterName,Job xxxx. For an XcvMonitor, use: ServerName,XcvMonitor MonitorName. For an XcvPort, use: ServerName,XcvPort PortName. Obviously I'm interested in the bold part. What exactly is XcvPort? I know it seems like a question of lazy person but I really couldn't find info abou this concept. If I would like to open a printer on port ABC I should write: "\\MySrever,XcvPort ABC"? Thank you for your answers!

  • c++: Schedule function call in the future?

    Using Visual C++ with MFC. When a certain event occurs in my code, I want to set a function to be called 10 seconds later to perform some activity. The handling of the event happens in a static library that doesn't have any direct links to MFC (and I'd like to keep it that way). How can I schedule a function to be called at some point in the future? Use a Timer I guess? How do I decouple the Timer (which is an MFC dependency) so my business code doesn't have a direct dependency on the GUI? Or maybe something else besides a timer?

Is it possible to make the return type flexible so that it would return an int, or long, or any other type considered smaller by "<" without being type casted?

    i wonder if there are tutorials/books explaining how you create a library/plugin/module for other to implement? libraries/frameworks like solr, doctrine, codeigniter etc. cause it seems that they follow the same pattern. having one "bootstrap" file to load configurations, other classes and so on. i aim to understand the basics, so i can create a such library. cause at the moment i want to code an address book that other can use. just include a bootstrap file and they are ready to use my classes (like Doctrine). recommendations of sources to learn these things of stuff? you experienced guys, how did you learn it? thanks.

  • Using NVL function in SQL, please help!

    I'm needing to select first and last name in a table which is working fine in the following SQL, but the part that isn't working is the NVL function. The file should show all pilots at a company that fly helicopters and IF they don't have a licence the field HT_NAME should come up as 'N/A' and the field for end hours flown should be 0. I've put NVL function in as my text details but it still isn't working. Have i made a syntax error? Help would be appreciated.     Assume that I have a class value object defined in php, where each variable in the class is defined. Something like: class UserVO { public $id; public $name; } I now have a function in another class, which is expecting an array ($data). function save_user($data) { //run code to save the user } How do I tell php that the $data parameter should be typed as a UserVO? I could then have code completion to do something like: $something = $data->id; //typed as UserVO.id $else = $data->name; //typed as UserVO.name I'm guessing something like the following, but this obviously doesnt work $my_var = $data as new userVO();

    I have a login page which will log a user into my webapp based on their facebook login details. I then create a session to remember who they are. What I want to know is, should I be creating and/or checking the facebook credential on every single page of my webapp, or should I simply use the session I create at the beginning to login? For example, once they have logged in, I would like to allow them to post a message onto their own facebook wall from my app. Should I check the login credentials before they can post by recreating the facebook object, or should I simply use the stored login details already in my session and use that to post to their facebook wall?

I've created a user using useradd [user_name] and given them a password using passwd [password]. I've created a directory in /var/ftp and then I bind this to the directory that I wish to limit access to. What else do I need to specifically do to ensure that when this user logs into FTP, they only have access to this directory please?

But If I run this code from browser it shows the following error.     Setup: I have a samsung LCD TV that is connected via eth0 to a T41 Thinkpad running Ubuntu 10.10 which is wirelessly connected to the home router. I am trying to get Samsung's remote control app working on my iPad but the app won't allow me to put in an ip address and only discovers the tv if it's on the same subnet as the iPad (lame). So I need the laptop to route packets from eth0 to the wireless interface (wlan0), and I need about 3 ports on the wlan0 interface to be forwarded to the samsung tv. Hopefully all this makes sense. I've been messing around with iptables and samsung is now able to access internet via laptop wireless, but mapping from wlan0 back to the samsung tv is eluding me.

If the two arguments are random_access iterators I want the return type to be an object of std::iterator<random_access_iterator_tag, ...> type else a std::iterator<bidirectional_iterator_tag, ...> type. I also want the code to refuse compilation if the arguments are neither a bidirectional iterator, nor a pointer. I cannot have dependency on third party libraries e.g. Boost Could you help me with the signature of this function so that it accepts bidirectional iterators as well as pointers, but not say input_iterator, output_iterator, forward_iterators. One partial solution I can think of is the following template<class T> T foo( T iter1, T iter2) { const T tmp1 = reverse_iterator<T>(iter1); const T tmp2 = reverse_iterator<T>(iter2); // do something } The idea is that if it is not bidirectional the compiler will not let me construct a reverse_iterator from it.

    Hi everyone: I'm now performing a stack buffer overflow attack test on my own PC( Ubuntu 9.10, gcc-4.4.1 ) based on the article http://www.tenouk.com/Bufferoverflowc/Bufferoverflow4.html. Yet I haven't achieved the goal. Each time a segfault is thrown accompanied with some error informaiton. I compile the source code, and wanna get further information using objdump. Function __strcpy_chk is invoked in the assembly code dumped out, and it's said that "The __strcpy_chk() function is not in the source standard; it is only in the binary standard." Does this the mechanism a compiler employed to protect runtime stack? To finish my test, how can I bypass the protection? Regards.

Is there a better way of handling these name/value pairs? Are there any helper functions that come with MATLAB to assist?
