  • using PHP for "Fluid" design(using viewport resolution)

    I need some opinions on using PHP to make completely "scalable" websites.. For instance, using viewport resolution and resizing images, applying dynamic css styles..... In my mind doing this just add's to the complexity and should not be done, it should be fixed or fluid using strictly css and no server-side languages to generate layouts based on the device size.. I need some input and maybe some philosophy on why using this approach is not used at all..

    Can I write code against .Net 4 and its libraries using VS2008? If so how should I configure it? I realise that VS2008 will probably struggle with language changes such as the dynamic keyword but can I install the version 4 and target it anyway? My only real interest is in being able to use some of the new libraries, in particular I'm interested in the TPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_Extensions)

Dynamic field dependencies: Say if option a is selected certain fields are shown/hidden and subset of these are mandatory depending on option selection. Add more: On clicking "Add more" button that clones some widget.   • what do i need to do so that mod_wsgi will find libmysqlclient.16.dylib? (osx 10.7 with apache mod_wsgi)

    I am trying to run django on osx 10.7 (lion) with apache mod_wsgi and virtualenv. My site works if I use the django testing server: (baseline)otter:hello mathew$ python manage.py runserver but it doesn't work when I run apache. The core of the error seems to be Library not loaded: libmysqlclient.16.dylib I think its to do with the path apache is using to locate libmysqlclient.16.dylib when I run otool in the lib directory it looks good otter:lib mathew$ pwd /usr/local/mysql/lib otter:lib mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib libmysqlclient.16.dylib: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (compatibility version 16.0.0, current version 16.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.1) but from outside it can't find it otter:lib mathew$ cd / otter:/ mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib otool: can't open file: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (No such file or directory) if i manually set DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH otool works otter:lib mathew$ DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mysql/lib otter:lib mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib libmysqlclient.16.dylib: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (compatibility version 16.0.0, current version 16.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.1) When I run the django testing server, my .bash_profile sets up the virtualenv and the path to the mysql dynamic library export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mysql/lib/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH export PATH When i run apache it finds my virtualenv paths, but it doesn't seem to find the dynamic library path. I tried adding this path to /usr/sbin/envvars DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib:/usr/local/mysql/lib:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH" export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and to /private/etc/paths.d/libmysql /usr/local/mysql/lib then restarted the machine but that has not changed the error message. I'm doing some dynamic code generation using Reflection, and I've come across a situation where I need to get the backing field of a property (if it has one) in order to use its FieldInfo object. Now, I know you can use .IsDefined(typeof(CompilerGeneratedAttribute), false); on a FieldInfo to discover whether it's autogenerated, so I assume there's a similar thing for Properties which auto-generate fields?     So a lot of web apps have the customer choose their own subdomain, ie mycompany.webapp.com Presumably, every subdomain works off the same set of files and the unique subdomain is perhaps stored as a session object. So how does the URL rewriting work? If someone goes to mycompany.webapp.com, you have to rewrite their unique address to a dynamic page to set the session variable, ie webapp.com/mypage.php?cusomer=mycompany But then when you redirected, you'd be at webapp.com/theappdirectory/ and not mycompany.webapp.com/ So how do they do it?

What Id like is some help or links as I want one that can have -always lit up light points -collision (If the light ray hits a block, then dim the next block by whatever amount until its dark) Im a noob at this stuff, but ive been searching around for quite a while but no luck (I did find Catalin's tutorial, but it seemed abit advanced for me)

  • How can I use Mongrel for my non-rails ruby webapp?

    I've got a non-RoR but ruby webapp in the works. So far, I've just been using requests, hacks, and mod_ruby; but I'd really like to try out Mongrel--which seems to work really well for RoR sites. I looked at the examples given in GitHub, and none of them does dynamic changing of content w/o having to restart Mongrel like you can do in RoR under dev mode. How can I do this? (Just using load doesn't work.)

When I build the project and attempt to add it to the server by selecting 'add or remove projects' I get the response that there are no projects to add or remove. Does this mean I will have to create a EAR file (J2EE Project) and add my web project to it in order to deploy to the local WAS? Might I be missing some essential configuration?

  • .NET JIT Code Cache leaking?

    We have a server component written in .Net 3.5. It runs as service on a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. It works great but after some time (days) we notice massive slowdowns and an increased working set. We expected some kind of memory leak and used WinDBG/SOS to analyze dumps of the process. Unfortunately the GC Heap doesn’t show any leak but we noticed that the JIT code heap has grown from 8MB after the start to more than 1GB after a few days. We don’t use any dynamic code generation techniques by our own. We use Linq2SQL which is known for dynamic code generation but we don’t know if it can cause such a problem. The main question is if there is any technique to analyze the dump and check where all this Host Code Heap blocks that are shown in the WinDBG dumps come from? [Update] In the mean time we did some more analysis and had Linq2SQL as probable suspect, especially since we do not use precompiled queries.
