• How to assign default values and define unique keys in Entity Framework 4 Designer

  Hello, I've had a look at the Entity Framework 4. While generating code for the SQL Server 2008 I came to the point where I want to define some default values for some fields. how to define in the designer for a Created DateTime Field the DateTime.Now default value? - Error 54: Default value (DateTime.Now) is not valid for DateTime. The value must be in the form 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fffZ' how to make for code generation a string Field unique. Like E-Mail or Username can exists only once in the table. I've search alot in the internet and also checked my books Pro Entity Framework 4.0 and Programming Entity Framework. But none of them seems to come up with the default value issue, or using sql commands as default values for database generation. Another thing is, how to prevent on database generation always from droping tables? Instead i want to append non existing fields and keep the data. Thanks for any suggestions.

• ActionScript: Type coercion problem with BlazeDS/AMF and class interfaces

  Hi, I've got a problem with type coercion in a Java/Hibernate/BlazeDS/Flex-Setup. First of all, my classes look like this: --- JAVA --- Interface I (Abstract) Class A implements I Class B extends A --- ActionScript --- Interface I Class A implements I Class B extends A I got RemoteClass-Meta-Tags in all ActionScript-Classes/Interfaces I, A and B. Package structure and Class/Interface names are exactly the same. Now here's the problem: My Java Service successfully retrieves objects of class B from my database via Hibernate. I got another class C which has a member property of interface type I, so it should be possible to assign an object of type B. But for some reason i get the following error message: TypeError: Error #1034: cannot convert Object@28b44a89 to package.name.I I checked the Java object type in the service and it is of type B and seems to be totally fine. Why can't the object of type B be assigned to a member variable of type I? This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

• How to disable horizontal scrolling within virtualbox on Ubuntu guest, Windows 7 host?

  This post is a duplicate from superuser.com, but since I had no answers, I started to doubt it was a user question and maybe more of a programming question (because of the configuration files), so here it is: I am using Windows 7 as Host, Ubuntu Karmic as guest OS with guest tools installed and I get an annoying glitch when switching from host to the guest machine: vertical scrolling switches to horizontal! (using the mouse wheel). Since I don't really care about horizontal scrolling, how can I disable this? I have checked the web and the only thing I found was to play in the xorg.conf file and adding in the section "InputDevice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" which would enable vertical scrolling only. The thing is, I don't have that section in my config file so I guessed that I would need to add Section "InputDevice" Identifier "VBoxMouse" Driver "vboxmouse" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection But that does not seem to work after restarting xserver. Any workaround for this?

• Multiple xmlns attributes affect page performance?

  We are working on adding some Facebook Connect functionality to our site. Part of their requirements for FB Connect require adding several additional xmlns attributes to the html element. We are likely going to have 5 or 6 of their custom attributes by the time we're done, and I want to know if this will negatively affect our page performance. I.e. will these be additional resources that the browser has to download? I have checked in Firebug and I don't see additional requests, but I don't know if that is because requests are not made by the browser, or if Firebug simply doesn't track them.

• [ASP.NET] Problems with error: "Access to the path <path> is denied."

  Hi, I was looking for the the trick to resolve that error (google, stackoverflow.com etc) and every nothing works. I need to dinamically create an .aspx file via the asp.net application. What I've done to try fix it: 1) In the folder's Properties - Security, I've added IUSR_TONY and also IIS_IUSRS and allow them the Full control to the folder. Just to check if that will help. Nope, it won't. 2) in the IIS Manager, I tried to change the Application's Pool Defaults Identity (based on that) I checked all options, with no success I don't know what to do more to fix it. Any ideas ?

• VB.net Edit-And-Continue: ignore "unable to apply this change while debugging"

  When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this: "unable to apply this change while debugging" While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options: 1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state 2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting 3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying. Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility? 4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this. thanks!

• Problems with NSTask in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

  Has anyone else seen or heard of any issues with NSTask in 10.6? This code worked fine yesterday, and is not working today. NSTask *task = [converter task]; [task waitUntilExit]; NSLog(@"Task did complete"); The task does what it's supposed to do (I checked the output and it's fine), but the program will wait indefinitely at the waitUntilExit method. I have a few unit tests that use similar code, they all had passed previously, but as of yesterday, they are no longer working.

• Reloading Rails Directories on Change for Dev: Not Lib!

  I have checked out several questions on this, including all of those you see next to the question. Unfortunately, I'm not working with a plugin, and I don't want to work in lib. I have a directory called File.join(Rails.root, 'classes') and I'd like the classes in this directory to reload automatically in dev. In my environment.rb I have this line config.load_paths << File.join(Rails.root, 'classes') which works fine and blows up if the path isn't there. The reloading line in my development.rb also works fine require_dependency File.join(Rails.root, 'classes', 'blah.rb') which blows up if the file is not there (a good sign). However, the file doesn't reload. This all works if the file is in the root of lib and I use the require_dependency line, but my whole point is to get stuff out of lib as suggested here.

• "Don't Allow" in LocationManager keeps logging errors

  I have an app that checked for location. It asks the user to use location and if the user says no on the menu there is an issue when i load the mapview. Once i select the mapView it asks for the user location again. If the user says no again my console keeps displaying errors/warning as well as my NSLog from the "didFailWithError" of my location Manager class. Is there a way of stopping the LocationManage:didFailWithErrors if the user has already said no? • making certain cells of an ExtJS GridPanel un-editable

  I currently have a GridPanel with the Ext.ux.RowEditor plugin. Four fields exist in the row editor: port, ip address, subnet and DHCP. If the DHCP field (checkbox) of the selected row is checked, I need to make the other three fields un-editable. I've been trying to perform this code when the beforeedit event is triggered, but to no avail... I've only found ways to make the entire column un-editable. My code so far: this.rowEditor.on({ scope: this, beforeedit: this.checkIfEditable }); checkIfEditable:function(rowEditor, rowIndex) { if(this.getStore().getAt(rowIndex).get('dhcp')) { // this function makes the entire column un-editable: this.getColumnModel().setEditable(2, false); // I want to make only the other three fields of the current row // uneditable. } } Please let me know if any clarification is needed. • What are your build and release steps? When to increment build numbers?

  I am having trouble defining and automating my build process despite simple requirements: Every build should have a unique build number. Every tagged release should be reproducible What I have: A C++, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x, Subversion development environment. A build machine ( actually a virtual machine ) A version.h file with #defines for major, minor, and buildnumber. A script for incrementing the version.h buildnumber. A rpmbuild spec file that exports the tagged Subversion source, builds, and makes the rpm installer packages. Questions: Assuming multiple developers per project, when should the build number be incremented and version.h file be checked-in? The build machine? Some sort of Subversion hook? • How to calculate order (big O) for more complex algorithms (ie quicksort)

  I know there are quite a bunch of questions about big O notation, I have already checked Plain english explanation of Big O , Big O, how do you calculate/approximate it?, and Big O Notation Homework--Code Fragment Algorithm Analysis?, to name a few. I know by "intuition" how to calculate it for n, n^2, n! and so, however I am completely lost on how to calculate it for algorithms that are log n , n log n, n log log n and so. What I mean is, I know that Quick Sort is n log n (on average).. but, why? Same thing for merge/comb, etc. Could anybody explain me in a not to math-y way how do you calculate this? The main reason is that Im about to have a big interview and I'm pretty sure they'll ask for this kind of stuff. I have researched for a few days now, and everybody seem to have either an explanation of why bubble sort is n^2 or the (for me) unreadable explanation a la wikipedia Thanks!

• I don't understand Application Domains

  .NET has this concept of Application Domains which from what I understand can be used to load an assembly into memory. I've done some research on Application Domains as well as go to my local book store for some additional knowledge on this subject matter but it seems very scarce. All I know that I can do with Application Domains is to load assemblies in memory and I can unload them when I want. What are the capabilities other that I have mentioned of Application Domains? Do Threads respect Application Domains boundaries? Are there any drawbacks from loading Assemblies in different Application Domains other than the main Application Domains beyond performance of communication? Links to resources that discuss Application Domains would be nice as well. I've already checked out MSDN which doesn't have that much information about them.

• IntelliJ IDEA :: Deploy android application onto Samsung S5300

  I'm trying to deploy the app onto my phone (Samsung S5300) I created project in IDEA and it works well in Android emulator. Now I want to deploy it onto my phone. I did the following: plugged USB enabled development mode and checked all options (USB, location etc) on the phone launched the same configuration but specified the device from the plugged devide (choose a running device) nothing happened, I don't see any errors neither in IDEA, not on the phone. What am I missing and how to fix the problem? The API SDK seems to be correct (2.3)

• Android HelloWorld Build Path error

  On my Mac I installed Eclipse, the SDK and created a new project, then hit build expecting to see my first helloworld app. I got the error "the project cannot be built until build path errors are fixed". After going thru all the path-like options in Preferences, I noticed that on the tab "Java Build Path" the "Google APIs [Android 2.2]" option did not have its check box checked. Checking it made the problem go away. It works now and I can see the app in the Emulator Have I not set up my environment correctly? I used all the defaults in Eclipse and the Android SDK.

• Why does Git display certain new folders when checking out old revisions?

  Hey all - I'm still learning the ropes of Git (love it!) but the other day I noticed some behavior I just do not understand. We have, in essence, three folders that got moved into the repository at different times (one immediately after we created the repo, one a little while later, and one just recently). Recently, I had to get some code out of an old revision. I used git checkout <old SHA1 hash> to pull up one of our first checkins, when I noticed Git showed the old folder (as it should), as well as the newest folder (which got added to the repo long after the checked out commit was made). But it did not show the second folder. What would cause Git to display the newest folder with the old revision?

• Generic test suite for ASP.NET Membership/Role/Profile/Session Providers

I've just created custom ASP.NET Membership, Role, Profile and Session State providers, and I was wondering whether there exists a test suite or something similar to test the implementation of the providers. I've checked some of the open source providers I could find (like the NauckIt.PostgreSQL provider), but neither of them contained unit tests, and all of the forum topics I've found mentioned only a few test cases (like checking whether creating a user works), but this is clearly not a complete test suite for a Membership provider. (And I couldn't find anything for the other three providers) Are there more or less complete test suites for the above mentioned providers, or are there custom providers out there that have at least some testing avaialable?

• How can I programmatically find the IP address/netmask/gateway configured for a specific network dev

  Hi I would like to write a piece of code which checks, for each network device (e.g. eth0, lo, master devices) some statistics and configuration data about that device. I could find the statistics data (and most of the configuration data) in /sys/class/net/..., however, I couldn't find any C/C++ API or any entry in procfs/sysfs listing the inet addr, netmask and gateway. Some alternatives I checked: parsing the output from ifconfig/route/some other utilities: I don't want to start a subprocess every time I need to do the inspection. parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/: will give me only the start-up configuration, and not the current state. Also, since this code is intended for a product in my workplace, where every external library is inspected thoroughly (meaning it will take me forever to add any external library) I prefer solutions which rely on Linux native API and not external libraries.   I am trying to send a simple XML file of the format given in http://wiki.hudson-ci.org/display/HUDSON/Monitoring+external+jobs . I was able to send it easily and was getting desired result!! Then I tried to build this XML file using python script and it was giving me the exact file that I wanted without any problem. But when I tried to run this and send it to Hudson, I was getting the error - "No module named dom.minidom" . I checked again by executing in Python IDLE and it ws working fine but when I tried to send it again, I was getting the same error.. plz help..

• Zend + Pop Up's balloons on Server Problem

  Dear Friends from Stackoverflow, Please help me with a problem that i'm having when uploading my project to the server. I'm using pop up's balloons (http://mckay.cshl.edu/balloons.html) for a project using Zend FW and it works fine on my localhost. (I'm using MAMP on MacOSX) but when I upload the webpage to the server, the text inside the balloons is displayed but the images that form the balloon are not, so somehow the js does not recognize the url to the images (the path it's correct, i've checked several times). The server is an Ubuntu 9.04 virtual machine from rackspace.com, running a LAMP server. I'm using the REWRITE function in Apache, so i guess maybe that's the problem. The rewrite configuration is set up using a .htaccess file with the following content: SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV development Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine ON RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule !.(js|ico|txt|gif|jpg|png|css|html)$ index.php Does anyone knows what the problem might be?
