• What is the right option of programming languages and tools for building our website?

  We are 3 persons trying to build a large website which will be available in 3 languges. However, we will start with one language and with small idea then we are going to improve it and make it larger! What do you think the best tools and language that we should use? We are caring alot about the speed of loading the pages and tools that provide excellent qulaity with cheaper fees. Edit: We are graphic designers, so we did not choose the programming language yet. But we studied computer science and we have an idea but we found that this is the best place to ask the question and expect the right answer from you. Should we use ASP.NET for example? or PHP? We do not want an expesive option that will cost us alot in the future and we do not want to change the technology at least for the first 5 years. Thanks!

• Unable to connect to internet

  I just upgraded to 12.10. Everything appears to go well but I am unable to connect to the Internet. The LAN is fine and I can view my shared files but no e-mail or access to web pages. My other computer which is running 12.04 or older seems to connect fine. I only upgraded one to make sure things would be ok. I am currently connecting fine with a wireless Windows laptop. • Clarity around Advanced Segment defintion

  I am hoping to get some clarity around an advanced segment I created. For context, our website spans multiple domains. For reasons I wont get into, I created an advanced segment that looks for pages containing my subdomain of interest (subdomain.site.com). I want to ensure that my interpretation of this advanced segment is accurate. Simply, it flags all visits to our entire domain that viewed at least one page on my subdomain of interest? • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Desktop 64 bit user permissions or apache2 rewrite problem

  have installed 12.04 Desktop 64 bit, manually installed LAMP, phpmyadmin, php5-dev,PEAR, PECL, apc, ssh, created user to own /var/www/ and transferred 3 sites to /www/. sites are in subfolders, sites - available all configured, and enabled. One site is pure html, two athers - php. Enabled curl, but phpmyadmin started at first, also php sites, than stopped working /show blank pages/ sites said Clean urls cannot be enabled. Html site still working. Where is the problem, and why the php sites stop working? In all apache .conf files Allow Override is set to ALL. php sites have .htaccess files. And this configuration worked with Ubuntu 10.04.

  I have a client who currently runs a venue and has ticket purchases made available through a third party. The way the site currently works is that there is a standard href in the nav menu to the ticket purchasing site. <a href'http://example.com/events'>Events</a> <a href'http://example.com/about'>About</a> <a href'https://someticketvendor.com/myclient?blah'>Tickets</a> They claim that they want to improve their SEO by appearing to integrate the ticket pages into their site. Having spoken to the ticket vendor, they only offer integration through iframes which is just horrible. I don't really know much about SEO but I'm wondering if I can create an htaccess rule to have http://example.com/tickets forward to href'https://someticketvendor.com/myclient?blah Are they are any negative SEO implications to doing this? Is there a better way this could be done?

  Though with Oracle JDeveloper 11g the problem of the IDE not rendering JSF pages properly in the visual editor has become rare, there always is a way for the creative to break IDE functionality. A possible reason for the visual editor in JDeveloper to break is a failed dependency reference, which often is in a custom JSF PhaseListener configured in the faces-config.xml file. To avoid this from happening, surround the code in your PhaseListener class with the following statement (for example in the afterPhase method) public void afterPhase(PhaseEvent phaseEvent) {   if(!ADFContext.getCurrent().isDesigntime()){ ... listener code here ... } } The reason why the visual editor in Oracle JDeveloper fails rendering the WYSIWYG view has to do with how the live preview is created. To produce the visual display of a view, JDeveloper actually runs the ADF Faces view in JSF, which then also invokes defined PhaseListeners. With the code above, you check whether the PhaseListener code is executed at runtime or design time.If it is executed in design time, you ignore all calls to external resources that are not available at design time.

  I have a php template which has one index.php and all the different pages (content1.html, content2.html etc) are shown on the index.phppage. So for example I can open www.example.com/index.php?content1 and it will show the content1.html. Now what I would like is this: Often you see websites where the url is like: www.example.com/this-is-the-content I know how to do this with an exclamation mark like www.example.com/?content1 <-- here you just dont write the index.php. But how can I do an url name, which is completely different from the filename? For example www.example.com/this-is-some-page would show me the content of index.php?content1

  The old-releases.ubuntu.com mirror hosts the repositories for EOL Ubuntu releases. The main page currently lists up to 11.10 (or 12.04.3 if you count point upgrades), but the dists page lists up to 13.04. Why the discrepancy? When will the main page be updated? When will the newest EOL release (13.10) be shifted here? I'd like documentation backing up answers, please. • Uses of LINK tag

  The <link> tag appears to have many uses aside from stylesheets. For example the W3 suggest using it for previous/next/index pages. I know that Opera also has a Navigation toolbar that will show links when present, including Home, Index, Contents, Previous, Next, Copyright, Author and more. (I doubt it is actually used by more than a handful of people.) Are there any other attributes that are useful, or other uses for the ones above? What about SEO benefit?

Now, I have taken the site down for total redevelopment and redesign. The aim of this question is to know the basics for SEO to be done while redesigning the site. My site will be in ASP.NET MVC 3 and will have main categories, sub categories and sub-sub if any. Then there will be products in those categories. All the data will come from MSSQL DB. • How to Organize Subdirectories? [closed]

  I am working on my first major (several hundred pages) website design and development project. I want to create subdirectories for each of the website's categories, which in turn have their own subdirectories for easy user navigation. Example: website.com/directory. I am aware that by placing an index.html file within each directory, the browser automatically detects and navigates to that page, but that seems like a messy solution (having multiple index.html files, albeit in distinct folders), and I cannot imagine everyone does that. So my question is...how do you properly organize and use subdirectories?

I am working on customizing how my results appear in Google as best as possible. I have learned about the meta tags to customize the text summary. However, I have some hierarchical parts to my website. When a result appears related to the "tip-of-the-iceberg", I would like to show links related to the "child" pages. For instance, if you Google "Walmart" you will see the following links listed with the result: Electronics TV & Video Departments Furniture Toys Girls Living Room Computers Is there any way that I can help Google determine which links to show and the text to display for these child links on my site? What if the focus of the webmaster/client is 100% set on the quality of the content with precise keywords in meta tags, clean design, regular articles updates, clean URLs and highly filtered external links leading to pages on websites dealing on the same,or related subjects; isn't it the job of a good search engine like Google to catch this website and show it in its front-page ? Or does Search Engines count on us to help them find us, and webmasters will always have to be up-to-date regarding SEO tools and rules updates on top of websites' design, browsers customization, progressive enhancement etc ?

• how to find 3g modem signal strength with out AT commands?

  when i try to find signal strength of my modem using AT+CSQ, the usb device is locked by the network manager. To find the signal strength with AT+CSQ i have to first disable network connection using #nmcli nm wwan off to unlock the device inode /dev/ttyUSBX. Is there any nmcli option to get signal strength or any other option? EDIT The gdbus object for NetworkManager don't have any method like getSignalStrength. Network manager is locking device file preventing to use AT commands. nm-applet was able to display signal strength in system tray. so there should be a way to get signal strength form network manager! nmcli is command line counter part of nm-applet. Can i get signal strength using nmcli? nothing about signal strength is mentioned in its man pages.

• Chromium and Google Chrome downloading

  Well, I have sincerely enjoyed having Google Chrome on my linux machine, and have never had any problems until recently. I found that Google Chrome will simply not allow redirected downloads to start. I can download from direct links, but not pages that redirect and "Start in 3 seconds..." I immediately assumed it was the webpage itself, so I refreshed many times. I then restarted the browser, and after another failed attempt, my computer. After that point, I suspected my internet provider was to blame. I tried the redirection link in an alternative browser (Midori), and it worked perfectly fine. I decided it must be the version of Chrome that Google put out, so I quickly installed Chromium, and to my dismay, ran across the same problem. I can live with copying and pasting the url into Midori for redirected links, but I'd like the convenience of staying in my main browser. Thank you for any advice in advance. c:

• Do I have to learn html and javascript to create web applications?

  I am an experienced Java programmer, and I want to create a complex web application requiring dynamic pages, drawings, etc (take SO as an example). Do I have to learn javascript/html in order to create such an application? It is not that I don't want to learn another language (I've done this before), but technology on the javascript environment seems to change so fast that when you finish learning one framework it is already obsolete. I have checked a number of java framework for web development (spring, play), but not deeply. So can these frameworks (or other possible java frameworks that I'm not aware of) be used without learning html/javascript? I also have some python experience. So if I can do the app in python it is also an option.

This is a fun learning page so I wanted to know as to how will they show up on mobile devices like iPhone and Android smartphones. The pages are hosted on a server and i have tested the thing on my desktop. But, how can i test the same for these mobile devices. i.e. how the page will look on mobile and stuff. At the bottom of the pages however, there is this error message: The phpMyAdmin configuration storage is not completely configured, some extended features have been deactivated. In that page, the only red row is this: $cfg['Servers'][$i]['userconfig'] ... not OK [ Documentation ] User preferences: Disabled In the configuration I have this: $cfg['Servers'][$i]['userconfig'] = 'pma_userconfig'; The pma_userconfig was missing from my phpmyadmin db so I found the create_tables.sql from my phpMyAdmin installation and I ran that, then restarted apache and mysql. The table has been created, but the error is not gone. Thanks!
