  • Iphone: UIWebview and double taps

    - by Eyal
    I would like to trap a double tap event in a UIWebView. I have derived a class from UIWebController. When I double tap it seams that the UIWebController itself is responding to my double taps instead of my class. The weird thing is that when I change the inheritance to inherit from UIView everything works just fine. Below are snippets from my code which is supposed to invoke a pop-up when double tapped. In the init function: //Setup action for double tap UITapGestureRecognizer *tap = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(handleDoubleTap:)]; tap.numberOfTapsRequired = 2; [super addGestureRecognizer:tap]; [tap release]; And Also: - (void)handleDoubleTap:(UIGestureRecognizer *)gestureRecognizer { UIAlertView *someError = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle: @"Network error" message: @"Hello" delegate: self cancelButtonTitle: @"Ok" otherButtonTitles: nil]; [someError show]; [someError release]; //[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:NOTIFICATION_FLIP_TO_PAGE_VIEW object:nil]; }

  • glTexImage2D behavior on iPhone and other OpenGL ES platforms

    - by spurserh
    Hello, I am doing some work which involves drawing video frames in real time in OpenGL ES. Right now I am using glTexImage2D to transfer the data, in the absence of Pixel Buffer Objects and the like. I suspect that the use of glTexImage2D with one or two frames of look-ahead, that is, using several textures so that the glTexImage2D call can be initiated a frame or two ahead, will allow for sufficient parallelism to play in real time if the system is capable of it at all. Is my assumption true that the driver will handle the actual data transfer to the hardware asynchronously after glTexImage2D returns, assuming I don't try to use the texture or call glFinish/glFlush? Is there a better way to do this with OpenGL ES? Thank you very much, Sean

  • Iphone SDK, arc4random CGPointmake?

    - by Harry
    I have tried using integers to store the number like so: playPin = 35 + arc4random() % 118; playY = -50 - arc4random() %100; if (CGRectIntersectsRect(pin.frame, refreshpin.frame)){ pin.center = CGPointMake(playPin, playY); pinend.center = CGPointMake(pin.center.x, pin.center.y+58); } Then using them, when needed, but... its random the first time, then it just keeps repeating itself. then i tried this: if (CGRectIntersectsRect(pin.frame, refreshpin.frame)){ pin.center = CGPointMake(35 + arc4random() % 118, -50 - arc4random() %100); pinend.center = CGPointMake(pin.center.x, pin.center.y+58); } And this also doesn't work, you cant even see the items i want to display! Any ideas? Thanks. Harry.

  • switch views using a button, going to a table view, iphone

    - by Jaime Rae
    My program has 4 buttons and each button calls a different table view. That works fine, but my problem is, the view controller I'm using brings up a table view that covers up my navigation bar and my tab bar. I need to replace that coding with something that will bring up a table and not cover up my nav and tab bars. Here is the coding I'm using: -(IBAction)buttonNorthWest { NorthWestViewController *nwController = [[NorthWestViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"NorthWestView" bundle:nil]; self.nwViewController = nwController; [self.view insertSubview:nwViewController.view atIndex:0]; [self presentModalViewController:nwViewController animated:YES]; [nwController release]; } The [self presentModalViewController....] is the problem. Does anyone know how I can replace that code with something that keeps my nav and tab bars? Thanks, Jaime

  • Objective-C (iPhone) Memory Management

    - by Steven
    I'm sorry to ask such a simple question, but it's a specific question I've not been able to find an answer for. I'm not a native objective-c programmer, so I apologise if I use any C# terms! If I define an object in test.h @interface test : something { NSString *_testString; } Then initialise it in test.m -(id)init { _testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"hello"]; } Then I understand that I would release it in dealloc, as every init should have a release -(void)dealloc { [_testString release]; } However, what I need clarification on is what happens if in init, I use one of the shortcut methods for object creation, do I still release it in dealloc? Doesn't this break the "one release for one init" rule? e.g. -(id)init { _testString = [NSString stringWithString:@"hello"]; } Thanks for your helps, and if this has been answered somewhere else, I apologise!! • Crash: iPhone Threading with Blocks

    - by jtbandes
    I have some convenience methods set up for threading with blocks (using PLBlocks). Then in the main portion of my code, I call the method -fetchArrivalsForLocationIDs:callback:errback:, which runs some web API calls in the background. Here's the problem: when I comment out the 2 NSAutoreleasePool-related lines in JTBlockThreading.m, of course I get lots of Object 0x6b31280 of class __NSArrayM autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking errors. However, if I uncomment them, the app frequently crashes on the [pool release]; line, sometimes saying malloc: *** error for object 0x6e3ae10: pointer being freed was not allocated" *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug. I assume I've made a horrible mistake/assumption in threading somewhere, but can anyone figure out what exactly the problem is? // JTBlockThreading.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <PLBlocks/Block.h> #define JT_BLOCKTHREAD_BACKGROUND [self invokeBlockInBackground:^{ #define JT_BLOCKTHREAD_MAIN [self invokeBlockOnMainThread:^{ #define JT_BLOCKTHREAD_END }]; #define JT_BLOCKTHREAD_BACKGROUND_END_WAIT } waitUntilDone:YES]; @interface NSObject (JTBlockThreading) - (void)invokeBlockInBackground:(void (^)())block; - (void)invokeBlockOnMainThread:(void (^)())block; - (void)invokeBlockOnMainThread:(void (^)())block waitUntilDone:(BOOL)wait; - (void)invokeBlock:(void (^)())block; @end // JTBlockThreading.m #import "JTBlockThreading.h" @implementation NSObject (JTBlockThreading) - (void)invokeBlockInBackground:(void (^)())block { [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(invokeBlock:) withObject:[block copy]]; } - (void)invokeBlockOnMainThread:(void (^)())block { [self invokeBlockOnMainThread:block waitUntilDone:NO]; } - (void)invokeBlockOnMainThread:(void (^)())block waitUntilDone:(BOOL)wait { [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(invokeBlock:) withObject:[block copy] waitUntilDone:wait]; } - (void)invokeBlock:(void (^)())block { //NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; block(); [block release]; //[pool release]; } @end - (void)fetchArrivalsForLocationIDs:(NSString *)locIDs callback:(JTWSCallback)callback errback:(JTWSErrback)errback { JT_PUSH_NETWORK(); JT_BLOCKTHREAD_BACKGROUND NSError *error = nil; // Create API call URL NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/arrivals/appID/%@/locIDs/%@", TRIMET_BASE_URL, appID, locIDs]]; if (!url) { JT_BLOCKTHREAD_MAIN errback(@"That’s not a valid Stop ID!"); JT_POP_NETWORK(); JT_BLOCKTHREAD_END return; } // Call API NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url options:0 error:&error]; if (!data) { JT_BLOCKTHREAD_MAIN errback([NSString stringWithFormat: @"Had trouble downloading the arrival data! %@", [error localizedDescription]]); JT_POP_NETWORK(); JT_BLOCKTHREAD_END return; } CXMLDocument *doc = [[CXMLDocument alloc] initWithData:data options:0 error:&error]; if (!doc) { JT_BLOCKTHREAD_MAIN // TODO: further error description // (TouchXML doesn't provide information with the error) errback(@"Had trouble reading the arrival data!"); JT_POP_NETWORK(); JT_BLOCKTHREAD_END return; } NSArray *nodes = nil; CXMLElement *resultSet = [doc rootElement]; // Begin building the response model JTWSResponseArrivalData *response = [[[JTWSResponseArrivalData alloc] init] autorelease]; response.queryTime = [NSDate JT_dateWithTriMetWSTimestamp: [[resultSet attributeValueForName:@"queryTime"] longLongValue]]; if (!response.queryTime) { // TODO: further error check?   • iPhone SDK: Memory leak on picker

    - by bbftsoftware
    I have created a picker for my users to pick from a list of countries. The problem is that repeated opening and closing of the picker is resulting in “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” error. I suspect it might be a memory leak but I am not sure. I was hoping someone could shed some insight into why this might be happening? //data source for UIPicker NSArray *arrayCountryChoices; arrayCountryChoices = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"TK=TOKELAU", @"TJ=TAJIKISTAN", @"TH=THAILAND", @"TG=TOGO", @"TF=FRENCH SOUTHERN TERRITORIES", @"GY=GUYANA", @"TD=CHAD", nil]; //opening the picker CountryViewController *countryVC = [[CountryViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"CountryView" bundle:nil]; countryVC.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:countryVC animated:YES]; [countryVC release]; //here is where I grab the data //close country selector [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; //parse out code NSString *strCode = [chosenCountry substringToIndex:2]; //set the gui txtCountry.text = strCode; I think it may be because I am trying to release the Country Selector before the delegate has a chance to get its data? Also I am wondring if I should not release the picker until the screen that calls it is released. Thanks in advance.

  • iPhone - Web Access Authentication

    - by Terry
    I am building a secure app for our exec's... here is my setup. It's a somewhat Macgyver approach, but bear with me :) There are only 10 users, I have a record of each uniqueIdentifier on my backend in a database table. (This is internal only for our users, so I don't believe I am breaking the public user registration rule mentioned in the API docs) Through adhoc distribution I install my app on all 10 devices My app is simply composed of a UIWebView. When the app starts it does a POST to our https site sending the uniqueIdentifier. (Thanks to this answer) The server page that recieves the POST, checks the uniqueIdentifier and if found sets a session cookie that automatically logs them into the site. This way the user doesn't have to enter in their credentials every time. So what do you think, is there a security hole with this? Thanks

    Hi All, Please take a look of the following screen shot. Here is my code, I am using cocos2D CGAffineTransform transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(3.14159/2); _view = [[CCDirector sharedDirector]openGLView]; // Input the user name _nameField = [[UITextField alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(130.0, 270.0, 200.0, 30.0)]; _nameField.transform = transform; _nameField.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; _nameField.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [_nameField setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"Arial" size:14]]; _nameField.placeholder = @"<Enter Your Name>"; _nameField.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; _nameField.autocorrectionType = UITextAutocorrectionTypeNo; _nameField.autocapitalizationType = UITextAutocapitalizationTypeAllCharacters; _nameField.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; _nameField.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeDefault; _nameField.returnKeyType = UIReturnKeyDone; _nameField.tag = 0; _nameField.delegate = self; _nameField.clearButtonMode = UITextFieldViewModeNever; _nameField.borderStyle = UITextBorderStyleRoundedRect; [_view addSubview:_nameField]; The problem is the text is typing on the top of the text field. I want it to be in the middle not to top.

  • iPhone - Dismiss modal view by a UITabBarController

    - by ncohen
    Hi everyone, I've got into a very strange problem. I created my own UITabBarController to customize it and it works pretty well... except for the modal views. When I dismiss the modal view (present/dismiss from the UITabBarController) with an animation, it waits until the animation did finished and goes to the first controller of the tab bar! Why does the controller change? and how can I fix it? Thanks PS: My UITabBarController view is on the main window and has a UITabBar on it. The controllers (which are managed by the tab bar) are on the main window over the tab bar controller view with a shorter height. When I present the modal view, I bring the tab bar controller view to front.

  • iPhone NSXMLParser parsing string and storing in a NSNumber variable and different data types

    - by anubhav
    Hi, I am trying to parse a XML File using NSXMLParser, I also have a Container class, in which I have a few instance variables. One of the elements that I am trying to parse in the XML is: <book sn="32.859669048339128" pn="-116.917800670489670"> I am trying to save the value of sn and pn in an instance variable of object Container: NSNumber *sn, NSNumber *pn. I want it so that when my parser get the attributeValues it can save it as a Double (or float) in those NSNumber pointers. Right now, all it does it just saves a string to the NSNumber. The Parser Code looks like this: if([elementName isEqualToString:@"book"]){ container = [[Container alloc] init]; container.sn=[attributeDict objectForKey:@"sn"]; container.pn=[attributeDict objectForKey:@"pn"]; } I want it so that the type of container.sn is initialized to a float or double. Any ideas how to do this? Thanks in advance!

  • How can I successfully dechiper Instruments Messages for iPhone Leak

    - by dubbeat
    Hi, I have a memory leak in my app. (This is the first of many I'm sure :() I've being trying to use Instruments to find it. Instruments gives me a lot of information but I think I must just not know how to use this information. What I did so far was 1) Run the app with Instruments 2) Memory Leak Occurs named general -stack 16 3) Find general - stack 16 in the object allocations part of instruments 4) The information here says the event type is a malloc, that webcore is responsible and the something named WKSetCurrentGraphicContext is the responsible caller. How can I use this given information to discover where in my code the leak is being caused? If I comment out the following function I don't get the leak warning so I guess it should be in there somewhere but I can't see where -(void)constructFeatured { NSString *imageName =[[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://myweb/avatar_", featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistid, @".jpg"]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:imageName]; CGRect frame; frame.size.width=100; frame.size.height=100; frame.origin.x=20; frame.origin.y=39; [imageName release]; imageName=nil; SDWebImageManager *manager = [SDWebImageManager sharedManager]; UIImage *cachedImage = [manager imageWithURL:url]; if (cachedImage) { cachedImage =[ImageManipulator makeRoundCornerImage:cachedImage : 10 : 10]; UIImageView *avatarimageview = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:cachedImage ]; avatarimageview.frame=frame; [self.view addSubview:avatarimageview]; UIView *spinny = [self.view viewWithTag:SPINNY_TAG]; [spinny removeFromSuperview]; [avatarimageview release]; } else { [manager downloadWithURL:url delegate:self]; } NSURL *url2 =[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@%@",@"http://myweb/", featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistcountry , @".png"]]; CGRect flagframe; flagframe.size.width=16; flagframe.size.height=11; flagframe.origin.x=130; flagframe.origin.y=40; NSData* data = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url2]; UIImage* img = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; UIImageView *imageflagview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: img]; imageflagview.frame=flagframe; [self.view addSubview:imageflagview]; [imageflagview release]; imageflagview=nil; [data release]; [img release]; [url release]; artistname =[[UILabel alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(130,75, 200, 15)]; [artistname setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"Arial" size:(16.0)]]; artistname.backgroundColor= [UIColor clearColor]; artistname.textColor=[UIColor whiteColor]; artistname.text=featuredValueObject.featured_promo_artistname; [self.view addSubview:artistname]; [artistname release]; hasConstructedFeatured=YES; [featuredValueObject release]; featuredValueObject=nil; }

  • Admob in iPhone with Tabbar and TableView

    - by satyam
    I'm having tab bar with 5 buttons. Out of 5 tabs, 2 are table views which uses navigation controller for showing sub views on click of cell. Above the tab bar, in each view I left some space for ads using "Admob". I'm adding ads using IB. But its giving EXC_BAD_ACCESS when its reaching "adMobAd = [AdMobView requestAdWithDelegate:self];" in AdViewController.m I'm using following lines of code to add views to tab bar view. In my code, I just added ads to LatestNews only. Can some one help me out of this problem. UINavigationController *localNavigationController; // create tab bar controller and array to hold the view controllers tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; NSMutableArray *localControllersArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:5]; // setup the first view controller (Root view controller) LatestNews* latestNewsController; latestNewsController = [[LatestNews alloc] initWithTabBar]; // create the nav controller and add the root view controller as its first view localNavigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:latestNewsController]; // add the new nav controller (with the root view controller inside it) // to the array of controllers [localControllersArray addObject:localNavigationController]; // release since we are done with this for now [localNavigationController release]; [latestNewsController release]; // setup the second view controller just like the first Forums* forumsController; forumsController = [[Forums alloc] initWithTabBar]; localNavigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:forumsController]; [localControllersArray addObject:localNavigationController]; [localNavigationController release]; [forumsController release]; RecipeList* recipesController = [[RecipeList alloc] initWithTabBar]; localNavigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:recipesController]; [localControllersArray addObject:localNavigationController]; [localNavigationController release]; [recipesController release]; //Setup Connect view Connect* cnt = [[Connect alloc] initWithTabBar]; [localControllersArray addObject:cnt]; [cnt release]; //Setup Subscribe View Subscribe* scribe = [[Subscribe alloc] initWithTabBar]; [localControllersArray addObject:scribe]; [scribe release]; // load up our tab bar controller with the view controllers tabBarController.viewControllers = localControllersArray; [localControllersArray release]; [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible];

  • Core Data iPhone how often should I call [managedObjectContext save:&error] when doing 50k record in

    - by jamone
    I will be doing an occiasional import from XML into core data. I have around 50k entities that will be added. My question is how often should I call [managedObjectContext save:&error]. For every new entity added, or every x entities, or just at the end of the 50k import? I currently am calling it for each entity and tried only doing it for around every 10k and import speed went up drastically but after the first 30k it would crash with: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSGenericException', reason: '*** Collection <NSCFSet: 0x13e760> was mutated while being enumerated.' Before I spend too much time trying to diagnose what is going on there I figured I'd check if its ok to not call save on every entity? Is the # of entities before calling save limited by the amount of memory those entities are using?

Where i can see half as root view in redColor and half as the subview in greenColor.I have also overrided the ShouldAutoRotate method and done this project programmatically. Please do reply me.

  • Best practice to display POI in iPhone's MapKit?

    - by iamj4de
    Assuming I have a database of POI with their respective coordinates (longitude & latitude). What would be the "standard" way to display the POI as annotations around the user's current location? To elaborate: Given a zoom level, I guess I have to search through the database for all POI whose distance to the current location < a certain threshold, then create annotations for them. Or is there any smarter way? If the user zooms in/out, moves the map... I will need to redo the whole thing again? It seems that MapKit has a mechanism to cache/reuse annotations. Should I create a lot of them right away and let MapKit decides what to render when the visible region changes? I guess this would make the transition smoother, but also consumes more memory. What is your experience with this? Thanks.

  • iPhone Settings app and keyboard control?

    - by randallmeadows
    So I'm putting my app's preference settings into the Settings app. One of the settings is an edit text field (PSTextFieldSpecifier). When touched, the keyboard dutifully appears, I can make the edits, but when I press Return....nothing. Well, the editing is completed, but the keyboard remains. I see no way to make the keyboard go away. I also notice this same behavior in other Settings panes, including those from Apple. Do I assume correctly that this is just standard behavior and I need to just accept the fact that my Settings table has now been reduced to half size, and just deal? Furthermore, I gather there is no approved way to have a "rich" child pane display, such as that seen in Settings-General-About-Legal? Or a way to do what appears to be a -presentModalViewController, a la Settings-General-Passcode Lock?

  • iPhone MapKit - Go "Around the World" ?

    - by Chris
    I have an App that is using MapKit. I am dropping pins and everything else, but when I zoom out to view the entire world, it does not let me go past the the middle of the Pacific Ocean. If I am viewing California and want to go to China, I have to scroll all the way East to view it. Is there a setting that I need to turn on, or is this just the way it is? I do note that this is how the actual Maps App works, so I might presume that this setting cannot be changed...
